the art of presentation for school consultants.

The key to sucess as an edupreneur and school consultant is presentatn and communication: this include both spoken and written. In this first section, i will deal on the area of spoken presentation which is popularly called public speaking.

My job now is to introduce you to the 7Ps of PUBLIC SPEAKING: factors that make or mar your presentation.
i have been using this topic to train wana be public speakers, so i might have to be brief.
The first P is:
PURPOSE: there is a purpose for every presentation, it could be for information, to influence, to give an opinion. The purpose is for you to define your message.
PREMISE: this explains the premise of the purpose.the environment of the premise is: Physical: lectern(stay at the lectern)
Effective:motivate the audience
Cognitive: speak the language of the audience
social: this determines the kind of
people you speak to eg. Class

PLATFORM
Is it religious, corporate or business, academic? The platform determine the language, presentation style, body language, choice of background material, non verbal communication(tone of voice, body language) and the choice of wording for the presentation.
PRESENTATION: before going for a presentation, make sure you have done your assignment, reading through different materials, prepared notes, researches. The presentation pattern depends on the platform, purpose and premise. This include
Scheme: attractive opening, humour, challenging and appealing quotes.
Technique: one of the generally accepted techniques for presentation is the KISS (keep it short and simple), the story telling method either persosnal or other peoples' story.

To be contd
Happy new year in advance.

@OP.
School business is good business, if only u knw how to profit from it...or else, you will live indebted and probably work for the banks.

Starting a school business is good but you must NEVER make the mistakes other school owners have made or are making....

With your qualificatn and training or experience, the school system has trained you Only to be a good school teacher, hence you have been equipped with teaching methods and lesson note formats. BUT to run a successful school, you need more than that...the only experience u may have that i will respect is if you have had HM or principal position experiences...but above that, maybe i should just say, you need to learn, unlearn and relearn.
What ever location u start your school from is infinitesimal but there are consequences/challenges to deal with on whatever area u strt.

..... To us @Geniuskrool, when we have young aspiring school owners like you to work with, what we do is to first help them

1. Remove the norm/conventional school from their thinking and create in them the picture of a 21st century school (with a kind of teachers, environment, school events and programes, etc

2. Open their minds to the business of owning a school beyond the passion to teach/impact some young pupils or students.what we call, the business in school business

3. Create the content strategy: that will position the school and create the difference between your school and every other comeptitor: government schls, missionary/muslims schls, other private schools.Every of these schools have an advantage and belong to a class of their own.

.....a single post like this cannot clarify all doubts or set all records straight, hence there might be a need to fix a focus meeting where we can table and SWOT-MAP your options.

HOW TO PLAN A SCHOOL
In the school consulting business, there are many issues of interest. Amongs them is your capacity to convince the clients or school owners that you have got what is takes and you have something to offer. As the edupreneur, and the school consultant, you must understnd that there is a big diference between answers and solutions. every school owner has answers to their problems but you have to provide the solutions to the problems of the school. From studies, we have been able to adopt some basic strategies for planning a school inorder to achieve answers. One of which is:
The SPIN strategy where,
S=Situation: this involves data gathering questions, eg what, when, where, how.
P=Problems: difficulties, disatisfactions of the teachers, parents, students etc
I=Implication: exploring the effect, complex and sophistication of the situation and problems.
N=Need -payoff= benefits of your solution.and why your solutions are not answers.

2. The SWOT analysis..swot analysis is quiet popular but for the records S=strength, W=weakness, O=opportunity, T=threaten.
You must be able to provide these for the school because, many school owners do not know their positions.

3. Process mapping: to identify the knowledge base of the schl, their relationship, operation etc.
ETC
Every school has a problem or two, and one or all of these and many other business modelling methods can help you provide solutions for the school.

And if you are wondering what are the problems of schools, maybe i should also share my insight in this area too. Generally, most schools have all or one or some of these underlisted problems.

1. Growth problems: many schools are finding it unbelieveably hard to grow their student population.
2. Debts issues. I can say this is the biggest and most common problems to small schools. .. How to get their money from the parents
3. Improving students Academic Problems
4.making extra money from the school beyond schl fees
5.teachers problem(improving them, inavailabilty Etc)
(Pls check my blog, you will see some other problems i have listed.....)

What am saying in essence is that you can use the above methods to find solutions to the problems listed.

WARNING: it must be noted that most of the owners of schools are education graduates, some educatn lecturers, retired headteachers from government and private schools and or NCE certicate holders. You cannot just cook up junks and give them to eat.

Therefore, the winning strategies is to ''re engineer the engines/wheels, shift from the norm, create a new paradigm and understand contextual exaptation''

PROGRAMME AND PLANING:
My programes are my unique selling points. Yet i will stil try to be as unclad as possible to drive home my business point, because if you miss the programing and planing side of this business, you wil have to be a hungry man for a long time.
If u check my profile, you will see i have advertised almost 4 different activities. Those are some of the things i have been able to come up with.the reason is because, i believe in multiple streams of income. Yet a more compelling reason is that school business is seasonal (expect seasonal unemployment)
Hence, i am always working on ensuring that i always have some thing to offer the school owners.
First understand that by school owners, i refer to the many share holders of the school which includes: the proprietors, teachers, school prefects, the students and the parents (parent here refer to the caliber, status of parents in that particular school in view).

To the teachers and proprietors: i realized there are many magazines around all about entertainment, sports and few others on some specific businesses like bankng, investment etc.hence, i came up with a magazine that is solely dedicated to teachers and the teaching profession (maybe i should call it a newsletter thou, because the number of pages are just 8 and wil increase it to 12 by the third edition)this is because in a little survey we did, we realised that most teachers and proprietors claim they don't have time to read, so i had to make it small to avoid boredom.....and don't you start getting hyper active about doing online newsletters. Because, about 90% of the schools in ota and environ do not even have functional email addresses.i don't know about the eyebrown areas in lagos and abuja, the schools in those areas have some over priced lecturers who come to give them regular seminars.hence they might not listen to you.
*SEMINARS:
Concerning seminars, we've been able to develop different seminar topics to meet the demands of the schools.whenever we send letters to schls for seminar, we also include nota bene (NB): school can also choose or give us any topic of interest to work on''
Generally, our seminar topics range from: teaching methods for the 21st century teachers, content development, reading speed for the students, leadership seminar for the prefects ( the idea for the prefect training came from the realization that as a prefect then in school, no formal training was given to us, we were just selected based on academic performance, and yet made to lead our peers and juniors. And till now, most school slect and appoint prefects without trainin. The few schools we have worked with using the books of John C, Maxwell. The results have been phenomenal.
The hottest topic now for schools is the montessori method: do whatever you can to learn it.i don't know much about it,so am stil just learning as well.

Other areas includes: recruitment of teachers for schools: schools are in dire need of teachers everyday.

Its like my phone is hanging

following the email requests received, it becomes imperative to detail on our subject matter of how to satrt your consultng business.
I did also want to urge those that have sent email request to at least make a comment here.

How to start ur consultng business.
before i started out in my school consultng business, i did a lot of studies and i discovered that most teachers, lecturers and proprietors call themselves educationist, which to me is a very vague word since education consist of both formal and inform learning and setting.
To distinguish myself and my business from others and to make it easily identified with:
1. PLACE (created a niche for myself).
By niche i mean creatng a brand identity which i want my clients to know me for. And that is where the idea of the eduprenuer came out from and hence, i call my self a school consultant..... Eduprenuer to show that am in the educational field and school consultant to show the area of consultancy am specializing.
2. PROBLEMS and PROSPECT
The school business is enamored with many problems just as consultng business itself has its own problems...this means that school business and consultng business have their perculiar challenges.the problems of the cosultant are the problems you will face as a consultant ( some of the once i faced are: people didn't believe in me, which actually became an advantage, financial constrants, knowledge base, office space, etc..... And i must say here that i've overcome all these challenges.
The problem of the school is your job and that is where the money is. Having worked in ota ogun state and some part of lagos, i concluded that the problems of schools thou are general but neighorhood makes some very unique. Your ability to identify these problems and been able to provide innovative and simple to apply solutions to their problems is what will keep you in business. The school problems are your prospect.

My name is Iboyi-iboyi Believe, Am the principal consultants/CEO GENIUSKROOL services.
My job here today is to educate and inform NLers about the business opportunities in Consulting business, with speacial focus in school consult...i need not educate you again about the benefits of being self employed or motivate you to be your own boss.

If you are a young graduate especially in education, there is great potentials for you to run a succesfull school consulting business instead of you going about looking for which school will employ you.
You will agree with me that there are schools (primary, secondary, vocational, music, etc)schools in every of our streets...hence you can harness the opportunity to
1. develop and plan their curriculum,
2. Train their Teachers/facilitators on capacity development, leadership, communication. work ethnics etc
3. marketing, organizing and struturing the schools.
4. There are also companies who want to get their products to the schools. You can be a middle man marketer for these companies to the schools.

Sincerely, for about 4years now, i've starting in this area of entrepreneurship which i've deftly called ''edupreneurship''. My business scope covers otta ogun state, and because of the volume of schools, i've not been able to move out of otta to lagos and its environs, yet we are also receiving calls to work with schools in lagos.
Hence, i believe that if other businesss minded graduates can tape into this area of school consulting or edupreneurship, there is high growth rate.

HOW DID I START.
The truth is, i started with less than two hundred naira. I went to a business centre to type a seminar topic and photocopied it into about 8 copies. Dressed up properly and distributed it to the schools in my neighbourhood. Two of them invited me and i did the seminar for them at the cost of five thousand naira each.... But before then, i had read the book, HOW TO MAKE IT BIG AS A CONSULTANT by William A. Cohen.

Well, i don't want to write too extensive, if you want to start., am willing to give you start up strategies, training and network.

Pls just email me :geniuskrool@gmail.com or call 08093759013

I await ur responds.

''Education is that which remains when one has forgotten everything he learned in school -'Albert Einstein'...i speak on this topic as an education student. We need to understand here, that there is a BIG difference between education and school...what has failed in Nigeria is our school systems and not education par say.As we all know education consist both formal and informal learning..atleast there is stil some morality in Nigeria.

What has made d failure in the Nigeria school system is that, we all learnt history in our schools.like i'd say humoriously, ''that Nigerian grauduates are all graduates of history based content'' and this has also been comfirm by ESERE..and also in comfirmation to what others have said the main problem here is: nigeria graduates have refused to learn nothing from their history lessons..they want the school system to teach them a step by step approach to life..is this possible?

charles soludo, Ngozi iweala and many other prominent nigeria leaders, have said that ''about 75-80% Nigeria graduates are not employable in the labour market and globally''
Evry now and then, we see these graduates carrying Cv looking for where to work......where is the work? Of course there can't be work..why? ...because there are 140 universities in Nigeria excluding polytechnics, colleges of education and other professional institutions..now, do the math of the number of graduates the school system shaw out evry year.
2: our parents have also refused to resign or retire, and no new company has been created or established.
the worst, is our school sysytem never taught us to be job creators but job seekers, that is why almost evry young graduate can write an application letter even from secondary school but many cannot write a business plan.

As for me, there are many business opportunties yet to be harness but i chosen just one. And that's education, and pineering the ''edupreneur mindset or spirit''
For instance, evry graduate uni or college of edu...thinks that' they must become teachers after school....that's extremely wrong..therefore, if you are a/an B.ed or B.sc.Ed or NCE holder and wondering what to doing with ur certificate, pls, link up with me...i need men and women of substance in this sector.the opportuinites are enormous.

COMMON MISTAKES WHICH SCHOOL OWNERS MAKE WHEN STARTING THEIR SCHOOLS
The proprietors of schools make certain mistakes from their start up point, which makes it seem they are ill-prepared for the task of owning a school. These edupreneurs as I call V them do not make certain to establish the basic principles that make running a school simple. And because they have failed in this aspect, it becomes mistakes! The essence of this is to identify the mistakes and find solutions to them. For many proprietors, the first start up mistake they make is in their:
1. School names and motto.
Like every business venture, the name a school adopts is extremely vital but far more important is the school motto and or slogan. Over time, what you see edupreneurs adopt as school motto is the Francis Baron adage that ‘’knowledge is power’’ and other conventional quotes like ‘’knowledge is light’’ and ‘’education is the best legacy’’ to me, those kind of names does not mean well for a schools that has foresight. Your school motto must tell something about your ideal, zeal and the vacuum you wish to fill.
2. Vicious cycle mentality.
This might surprise many of the edupreneurs but it’s a simple truth. Most of the primary and secondary school owners today, are/were school teachers, having taught in one government/private school or the other. This means that most of the schools in existence are based on teaching methods as evident in their names like montessori’s method boldly written on their signboards when these proprietors know fully, that the Montessori method is mainly applicable to only toddlers in the pre-nursery or nursery schools. The academic history of these proprietors and their teachers, have always shown that most of them went to colleges of educations and universities to obtain educational qualifications. This means they are trained to teach and not to own schools, just as many Nigerian graduates are trained to be job seekers and not job creators. As it were, most of them are trained to be teachers and not business managers. Hence, do not have the capacity to manage the man, methods, materials and money of the school. Because most proprietors come into the school business with just teaching methods, they have nothing different to offer… no innovation, no new thoughts as they remain in the same vicious cycle. I can therefore boldly say, most of the small schools in existence are built on teaching methods.
3. Meet The wrong man approach
Another actual mistake which proprietors make is going to meet a proprietor to educate them on how they started the same kind of business that they are about to go into. The truth is, no matter how sincere a proprietor is, he /she will never tell you his secret of making more money or increasing population, rather they will just tell you what you need to know and not what you need to break even or stand out.
4. Low price mistake
Just like most start up problems, most proprietors start their schools with ridiculously low school fees because they want to get many students enrolled. When they eventually get the students, they try increasing the school fees and end up losing the students. But by then, they would have got teacher’s salaries to pay, government tax, union levies and other sundry running cost to deal with. This in the end make them constantly struggling. If you must start a school, start with the right price that should not be change until three or four years after existence.
5. The only one wow.
In cracking the millionaires code, the author created an acronym for WOW, which means wheels of wealth. To the proprietors, many start schools and depend 100% on the school for survival instead of creating other sources of revenue either within the school or outside the school.
6. Aristotle,
…and though it does not end then…

There are so many other mistakes or in this case factors to consider before starting a school. All these suppose mistakes stated here are first hand information garnered from on the field work, working with proprietors of schools of various levels. And over the years, we(GENIUSKROOL) have been able to create innovative solutions to help proprietors over-come these challenges.
Synopsis
A mistake is not a mistake until you refuse to learn from it, improve on your short comings and make amends. It’s not a crime to make mistakes, but it is a crime not to learn from.
There are people whose business is to see to the need of your business and that is what GENIUSKROOL stand for…seeing to the need of your school business, I mean, any school business. If you have made any mistakes in your school or you are facing any management challenge in your school. We are just here for you.

The proliferation of the school business has cause educational professionals and non- professionals alike to jump into the ownership of schools in every street corner thereby causing a saturated and competitive schools business environment.

On the same hand, people are thirsty for knowledge, promotion, financial empowerment, and many other personal desires too numerable to mention, hence every school business is very profitable, the competition notwithstanding.

By school business, I am not just referring to the conventional primary and secondary schools, but also referring to vocational schools, hairdressing/ tailoring academy, bible institutions, music/dancing academy, computer schools and any other organized system for learning. For anyone involved in the art of the school business, you are the Edu-preneur As I pivot the name of the edupreneur, I do not wish to own a school, because my vision is ‘‘ to provide all the tools, skills and materials needed for the growth and development of all business and educational institutions’’

I have seen that the school business is one of those businesses that can be started so low (with little financial resources) and can grow steadily over time as long as you are consistent with your services.

But as the principal consultant of the GENIUSKROOL, I have come to a conclusion that in the midst of this competition among the schools because of the saturation, the winning strategy will be beyond just consistent services but school owners but strive to adopt
1. THE METHOD APPROACH.
The method approach involves the use of materials and methods, Which includes but not limited to introduction of:
- Exceptional pedagogical teaching aid tools.
-Innovative teaching methods.
-Modern technology into the classroom, school management and administration.
-E-learning programmes for students to meet global standards
-Multi-functional diagnoses to meet the specific need of learners
2. OUT-SOURCING STRATEGY
This involves the use of external consultant(this is where we come in) who will not empathize like the school owners, because the hustle of running a school is time consuming with maintaining order among staff, students and parents, stationary suppliers etc. the truth is, proprietors are busy .Hence they should engage the services of school consultants and not educationist...
For every school owner or anyone who knows someone who owns a school. Lets meet here and share thought…as I shall be helping proprietors unlock the potentials in their school business.

entrepreneurship is Nigeria today is so raw and unharnessed that you begin to wonder what took us so long. the truth is, many nigerians have not learnt it and many can't learn it no matter how we preach it.

[b]the wrong choices people make.
the problem with many young nigerian graduates and undergrads who call themselves entrepreneurs is that, they just do what others are doing and not what is best for them.
in a seminar just concluded this question was asked, and the argument was, shouldn't business be what is trending? YES, accepted that bizness shud be what is trending and what people want, and this is why many of the inexperienced pple have joined the netpreneur busines without even knowing how to break even, because its overtly saturated and competitive.
for now, there are now many new business which were not in the forefront that have been pushed out.

what we should look into here is rivalry and competition...when a business, team work, or any activity between two pple is heated, involving threat and detrimental actions, it become rivalry but the opposite become competition.
This is to say that, there is healthy competition indeed: for the sake of learn new acts, for knowing who is better and accepting that that individual is better.

;;;street lights, and many others...for a true, the whites have done many things unmentionable'' to demoralize d blackrace
,this is not to say, d black race shud dye in d victim mentality, but these things will definately affect many of the blacks...and that's d point.

Yet, this is not what ds thread is about, its abt an educatnal system that is designed to make d receivers half-baked and has made many nigerian graduates ''graduates of History, and that's why they're not employbale in d local market not to mention d global market....nigerian don't knw contextual violatn and exaptation, so tell me how we can re-engineer what has been engineered........for those of u quoting eleanor rossevette ''no one can make u feel inferior without ur permison''let me ask u ds questn...''can ur house maid be equal to u in ur home setting? Ie in all of ur parents benevolence, can they treat ur maid as they'll treat u their child?

Foreign Affairs / Re: Blacks Are Educated To Feel Inferior - Dr Bedford Umez by iebelieve(m): 4:19am On Jan 30, 2013
@braine, this is No theories....its so really..and i totally agree with d school of thought....
Dr. Umez's thoughts have historical proves.there is a document called d mandate dat was supposedly given to all d first african missionaries of the 1890s..and it was carelessly misplaved by one of d misionaries in kenya.........: d document in synopsis states:
1.teach them(africans) to read and not to reason.
2.teach them to focus and keep lookng unto the sky and neva into d ground
3. Teach them to believe in a supreme God and not their gods...
ETC etc
Inother words, d whites or colonial masters used religion to tactically get into d blackman land, they just taught our grand fore fathers to read, and dat was mainly the bible.they taught d 3Rs ...Read, Write and aRithmetics.....while our grandfore fathers exerted all their energies studyng the bible, d whites excerted all their energies developing scientifically.if u observe careful, most of the worlds invention were in d 1890 to the 1900s....
Til today, our schl curricum is built by them, evaluated by their methods and so on...and this is why there is a great difference bwteen our schls and theirs.

I 've d copy of the mandate in my inbox...i can send it to u if u're interested.....

@caps: if u 've any means of linking to Dr, umes, pls let me knw..i did like to follow and contribute my tots on hw to reshape d brainwashed minds of africans.

Religion / Re: What Is Behind Getting Pressed While Sleeping? by iebelieve(m): 2:48am On Jan 30, 2013
Evil Brain: Its called sleep paralysis and its perfectly normal.

When you are asleep, you brain normally paralyzes all your muscles. This is so that when you dream, you don't start acting action film and punch or kick your wife/girlfriend sleeping beside you. This paralysis (called muscle hypotonia) is usually turned off as you wake up. Sometimes however, you might wake up while the paralysis is still on, making you feel that you can't move or that something is pressing you into the bed. It usually lasts just a few seconds and stops immediately you're stimulated, e.g. if someone touches you or if you hear a sound.

Because this experience can be scary for those who don't know what it is, the greedy, corrupt pastors have taken advantage of it to scare people and make them seek protection against the "evil spirits that are responsible".

But there are no evil spirits, it is perfectly normal, and it happens to everybody. So don't worry.

Health / Re: UNIBEN Professor Recants HIV/AIDS Cure Discovery by iebelieve(m): 8:23am On Jan 12, 2013
the epoch of this disease called AIDS is an EPIDERMIC....that means, that a state of emergence is declared on it....it therefore goes that,
1. Any dicovery, theorical or otherwise that that can lead to a possible cure Must be accepted and followed up...why then are pple disassocitng from a possible cure to an epidermic?...
Why are the west quick to discredit any report concerning d epidemy especially from those it affect most

2. years ago, i came across an article that talked abt d ''NBC''- Nuclear, -Biological- Chemical weapons of destruction.....and i make bold to say that hiv/aids is a biochemical weapon of destructn for over populated countries of the world, as asserted by the mathusian theory......human populatn will geometrically outwit food arimethetic growth..
If Not tell me why the HiV/aids is more pronounced in d populous countries of the world?

3.condoms are among the world's highest selling commodity....antiretroviral drugs are patent....and u tell me some body or persons in power are not gaining from ths epidemy!!!?

i don't think u can make an average of 8k/day...if u are runing ONLY cafe business, i doubt...
..
probably u're also runing business centre and one or two more additional sources of income from the same centre....i am only respondng to ur clarion call for cafe opening with 250k..if u think am bluffing: remove all ur other incomes and sum up ONLY the money u make from ticketing or airtime...cost hw much u spend per day for fuel and other sundry expennses and tell me how much u making per day. because u are looking for client doesn' mean u shud paint a wrong picture.
Urs trully.
