Agriculture / Tenera; The Only Type Of Oil Palm That Can Produce Large Amounts Of Oil by Iverenne: 6:12pm On Jul 01, 2021
Retired Mr. Shile has become a producer on a very small scale in his compound, alone with his wife's help.

And you know what's funny?

His neighbors laughed at him because they thought he couldn't afford a fence for his compound...

And that's why he decided to plant oil palms instead. People sef...

Anyway, they have just 6 fruiting trees and always remember to keep some litres of their palm oil for themselves.

Why? because they really cannot satisfy the neighbors who come to buy from them. And yes, his neighbors probably buy with eyes of envy cheesy.

Thinking if I could get back 2 years and have planted mine too...

He's very excited at how much he makes from his small space and last week he told me this time, he wants some hybrid for his family space back home...

If you didn't already know this, Palm oil and it's Kernel ingredients are everywhere today:

in food, snacks, soap, lipstick, newspaper ink, drugs, animal feeds...

It's even in the noodles you eat wink.

Fact is, the world uses more palm oil than any other vegetable oil (over 73 million tons in 2020).

Makes sense why in 2019, Nigeria needed to increase its Palm oil production from 600,000 tonnes to 5 million tonnes a year...

and double the palm oil estate to 6 million hectares, to meet the country’s palm oil demand by 2027. Just Nigeria alone.

Think about it...

if Nigeria has a $500 million import bill for Palm oil yearly, doesn't it show the huge gap in meeting the local demand?

Even the National Palm Produce Association of Nigeria (NPPAN) has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria...

to support and partner with them to produce and distribute 10 million hybrid oil palm seedlings to smallholder farmers yearly.

Yup, 10 million. Yearly. That serious.

And of all 3 known oil palm varieties in Nigeria...

the Tenera palm produces very large amount of fruit bunches and is the only type of oil palm that can produce large amounts of oil (by 30%).

It'll keep producing good fruits for up to 30 years, 2 - 2 and half years after planting.

And guess what,

If you care for them right, you'll only plant them one time ever. No replacement.

Good news is, it's really not that hard to grow. Take it from Retired Mr Shile and wife cool.

P.S: There's no miracle to poor quality seeds with unreable certification. It will frustrate you for the 30 years that you have them for.

And I'm sure the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, IITA (Abuja, Nigeria) wouldn't want to spoil the good name it took 54 years to build by certifying that these hybrids are disease free Tenera variety.

No hype, the oil palm game is a long term game and you probably have better options to put your money but...

As you're thinking about you, your family in 10, 20 years from now even in 5...

and you want in on some of the action, ask for Tenera on this number 09016021838

Business / 4 Simplified Steps To Building A Business From Scratch Pt.2 by Iverenne: 5:31pm On Jul 23, 2020
Continuing from part 1, these are insider insights to building a business that you must have to be a success and are important for anyone with an idea/vision. It can be applied in any field. Business related or not.

Step 3 to building: Strategize
This is easy and has to do with finding out what you need to do to get to where you want to go. You already know where you want to go from step 1. Now you just want to find the best way(s) to get there.

This is what I mean...

You may be in Kaduna but you want to get to Abuja. You could decide to take a direct bus to Abuja day time, or take one at night.

You might want to take the bus but you don't have transport fare. You can decide to pack your things and stand by the road and hope you get a free ride.
If you do have enough to fly, you could just use the airport.

Or you have a bicycle? Ride it to Abuja, ride to your neighbor who's traveling soon or just trek all the way. Either of them is an option, the difference is how much time it'll take and depends on the resources you have.

You basically write down all the different ways you can take to get to your ultimate goal, your vision/dream for where you want your business to be eventually. Decide which one is the most feasible or profitable.

Step 4: Execution
Execution is another important step because it's easy to just keep researching on and on, analysing and being fearful that you might fail.

If it's capital that's the problem, think of bootstrapping ideas into the industry. Plus every business has a low cost entry.

McDonald's started with flipping burgers. Amazon started with only books. GitHub didn't have offices and the 4 full-time team members worked remotely.

I'll talk about Bootstrapping in the next post. Understand that If you don't try, you'll never know how big you could have been or how differently to have done things

The good news is you already have all these steps written down (I hope so) to make it easier to apply.

Plus before execution you must have:
1. Understood the bigger picture (end goal for your business/vision)
2. Known who you need (skill set, not just your family member), researched who is going to buy your product/service
3. Decided on which way is best to start, depending on your resources. (Human, financial, physical resources)

Lastly, focus on one idea at a time.

Especially if you've never built a successful business before or helped build one. Why? I'll reserve that gist for another time maybe.

This is obviously simplified, there's more work than has been written. So get to it.

Ideas don't come out fully formed, they only become clear as you work on them. You just have to get started - Mark Zuckerberg

Business / 4 Simplified Steps To Building A Business From Scratch (pt. 1) by Iverenne: 10:14pm On Jul 20, 2020
These are insider insights to building a business that you must have to be a success and are important for anyone with an idea/vision. It can be applied in any field. Business related or not.

Step 1: You've got to have clarity
Getting clarity means understanding the why of the vision/idea. Why are you going into it, why you want to do it?What's the expected end?

Your answer at this point is one of the most important things you'll need because it's going to decide the sort of decisions or actions you take. You'll need it in developing your marketing strategy, business model or growth strategy.

So answers like I want to open a provision shop, I want to sell bags, I want to sell broilers etc., do not qualify as correct answers because it has no depth, no value and it is focused on the product.

A vision/idea is never focused on the product. There is an end, a bigger picture mostly focused on the benefits that your customer and or consumer is going to get.

You have Coca-Cola with slogans like open happiness, good feeling, enjoy, satisfaction becauce their mission is to refresh the world and create happiness.

Which is why you can't take a bottle of coke and feel dull, you rather feel energized, pumped or refreshed. So Coca-Cola is in the business of providing refreshing or happiness. Not soft drinks.

An architect has to understand and have a picture of the building before he starts to draw. This is what clarity is.

Just having a clear view of where you want to end up and I'm not talking about money. It's not about how much you want to get. Its the ultimate value you give to people.

Step 2: Make an assessment
Okay so when you're sure you have a clear view and understanding of the long-term goal, you can begin to assess yourself.

What are your strengths, weaknesses, what experience do you have and what can someone else do better than you?

This is not the time for self-affirmation or positive thinking. Just be real and state what you're sure you can do and what you cannot do right now. Would it be best to get someone else to do that instead?

It's probably not the right time to ask your closest friends. Depending on the sort of friends you have though .

So basically you just want to cover: the resources you have versus what you need. Resources in terms of human resources, what skills you need, who has those skills if you don't have them yourself or the time to learn them.

See that Jack Ma was not a programmer, yet he founded Alibaba with his team.

Other things you'll need to cover are physical resources: equipments, what you'll need to buy, financial resources like cash, capital, how can you get it, who do you need to get it, how can you bootstrap if you don't have capital?

You also need to research about your competitors, who are the big guys, mid level guys, start ups, direct and indirect competitors.

If you're going into the fruit juice industry for example, you'll know that your direct competitor is Nutriture daily Fruities and indirect competitor is Coca-Cola.

Because Coca-Cola makes carbonated energy drink while Nutritures just fresh fruit juice.

You'll need to research your target market. Those who have the money and are allowed to buy from you. Understand that a customer is the person who buys the product, while your consumer is who uses it.

Mothers may be the customers of healthy powdered pap like Meliorate foods produces but babies are more the consumers.

This is not about the product you want to use to sell but the value you're going to deliver. Your product is bags, but sister A need bags for a different reason that Sister B needs bags. The value is different. You get?

As you do this you'll get more clarity about the vision and it will help you make edits, so that when you're telling someone else or an investor it'll be clear.

They'll be able to buy into your vision and see the bigger picture themselves.

Because if they are not able to see, if it's not clear how they're going to get their money back, nobody is going to give you their money.

So don't rush through step 1 and 2 take your time. I know your blood is hot.

You have an idea today, tomorrow you're going to look for capital and be complaining upandan that nobody wants to invest in your idea .

More on this tomorrow...

Business / How To Gain True Followers: Understanding Leadership by Iverenne: 8:40am On Jul 16, 2020
Without his armies, Napoleon would just have been an overly ambitious soldier.

Without his teammates, Steve Jobs would never have produced insanely great products that dented the universe.

Without his employees, Amazon would not be one of the most profitable companies on the planet.

Without his workers, Elon Musk would never have been able to build Tesla Motors, SpaceX, Solarcity, etc.

===
Leadership, as an essential attribute, has more to do with how you behave and act, rather than how clever you are or claim to be.

According to John C. Maxwell, Leadership has less to do with your position, and more with your disposition.

Forbes defines leadership as the process of developing and helping people to become their best selves, while achieving company goals.

To achieve success requires the commitment of followers to leaders, and vice versa.

As a leader, respect, trust, and loyalty cannot be DEMANDED from followers; they are EARNED by your character and actions.

Understanding and implementing this fact makes it possible to gain trustworthy followers who go on to become loyal fans.

Below are essential leadership attributes that attract true followers:

***
Understanding Who They Are
***

True leaders are very clear about who they are and what they stand for.

They do not hesitate to make it known to colleagues and subordinates.

These leaders know their values, rules, and convictions that cannot change regardless of circumstances.

Thus, they make it clear as soon as possible so that you know what to do and what they expect.

***
Staying True To Who They Are
***

Many leaders today fall into the category - do as I say, not as I do.

However, great leaders who attract great followers, have integrity ingrained into their core.

If they said they will, they will. If they won't, they won't.

This forms the basis of trust and respect from those they lead.

***
Going The Way
***

It is not uncommon to find leaders who merely want to show followers where to go with the tip of their finger.

These leaders want their followers to be time conscious, results-oriented, attentive, and respectful without first doing it for them.

The best leaders lead by example, not just by words!

Followers will find it quite impossible not to roll up their sleeves and get to work when they see their leaders do the same.

***
They Make Their People Better
***

Several people condemn Steve Jobs' brutal honesty and work ethic, but everyone who has ever worked with him acknowledged and appreciated the tremendous growth they experienced whilst working with him.

He inspired them to change the world, while changing themselves in the process.

True leaders unlock the potentials locked inside their followers and workers. They push them to do previously unimaginable things.

Great leaders are rare because many are caught in egotistical gratification, rather than human development.

In the words of Richard Branson, Train people well enough so they can leave. Treat them well enough so they don't have to.”

That is the hallmark of a true leader, who ends up gaining true followers.

Business / Why You Need A Business Model To Grow Your Business by Iverenne: 11:21am On Jul 15, 2020
A business model is a conceptual structure that supports the viability of the business and explains how it operates, makes money, and how it intends to achieve its goals. This refers to the company's plan for making profit.

Why is it so necessary?

Business models create that first impression in the customers and investors. They are not always interested in the business proposal showcasing the details about the business, they only want to see a well laid out plan and what you have to offer.

Start-ups and established businesses require this model. In the midst of competitiveness, a business might not survive, if it fails to prepare for the unseen.

In a typical business model, information as regards the product or service being sold out; the methodology to carry out the trading activities; identified market audience and the cost of operations is considered.

A crucial way to appear first in the mind of your customer is to ensure that they reckon with what you have to offer first. Aim at being the first to offer it, else, devise a means for that. A business model helps to trash this out.

Business models also help in considering the channels through which these services and products get into the market. Awareness and method of distribution are earlier identified and future challenges are foreseen.

A business owner ought to understand that the market is not strictly monopoly. The game in the market tops up frequently. Absence of a business model is the same as unpreparedness to solve the likely issues that may arise. Business models allows you to intricately look into this.

To attract investors into a business is not a child's play, especially when a huge capital is involved. Making the financial figures known and also giving a detailed plan for the feasibility of the business is what investors are mostly concerned about. Business models help in identifying all these.

If you do not have one already, you need to consider one now. Remember continuity might not always require a new idea. Get yourself equipped in time.

What other reasons do you think we left out? Kindly share with us.

What of Acoustic guitar learners?

That is even my core instrument. Acoustic guitarists are also included. It's actually not too different from electric guitar. If you can play one, you can play the other.

Education / 8 Reasons Why You Still Play Guitar As Badly As You Do: Simple Secret Solutions by Iverenne: 4:50pm On May 19, 2020
This is to beginner guitarists who secretly believe that guitar playing is a talent/gift. You'll discover after reading this, if it is really truth or you been lying to yourself.

The reason you don't sound any good is likely because

1. You gave up on switching Between Chords - This is usually the first problem you run into learning the guitar. I ran into it too, 7 years ago. After managing to learn a few chords then you realize you still have to switch, and quickly in some songs. Life can just tire you. Lol. Maybe you spent days learning only F major chord and in your mind you're ready to switch until you look and your fingers are still on F! Choi...super frustrating.

2. You're sure barre Chords are for experts - This is another chief source of frustration. I used to think I'd never learn Barre chords. I would try and hold down all strings, I could even spend minutes making sure I pressed every string, then by the time I strum, just nonsense...but the goodnews is Barre chords are not always necessary to play all songs but you need to strengthen your fingers and have more sound options, outside the basic chords.

3. You just want to play fast solo and look cool - Kai...it's sweet to listen to skilled guitarists play o. You just wish it was you that everyone is hailing and dancing to. So what you do when you pick up your guitar, is to download plenty YouTube videos and start giving yourself assignment to learn what you don't even understand yet.

4. Simply cramming chords - so you probably have one big book of guitar tabs and chords and you have crammed them top to bottom. Each time you pick up your guitar, your own is to practice holding each of them. Well..the ones you can remember. And you just get tired. 'The chords plenty ehn'. You might even cry and think, 'who give me work like this'. Your hand will just be paining you anyhow. Let us calm down, chords are easy to learn when you apply them to songs. It's really that simple.

Which brings us to the next point... however, these last points are exclusive to passionate beginner guitarists serious about their dream to become the badass guitarist of their time.
