Ladrang:

I see lot of folks here complaining about the man's supposedly 'bad' English. Truth is there is nothing wrong with his spoken English. His English is only tinted by local coloration which is perhaps the only kink to his English.
The fact that his English is perceived as pedestrian-- which is perfectly understandable considering the fact that no Nigerian is a native speaker of English-- doesn't mean he is wack or quack. He is a very brilliant lecturer. The same goes for other lecturers in the department: I mean these guys are grounded; extremely knowledgeable. I'm not hyping them; I'm an insider. I know the hell I'm saying.
Look, there is a reason Unilorin was first then and still among the first five. If you can't wrap your head around that fact, well too bad. I leave you to your spasmodic hate.
For others rambling about the man's English, Dr. Idiagbon speaks PERFECT Nigerian English. Having Queen's accent is merely a desirable linguistic dessert of which only a minute number of Nigerians can afford and paradoxically these few in most cases are not found in the linguistic field.
Please folks, stopping equating a locally-coloured English accent with average intelligence. It's normal
I repeat normal. The bar in this clime is set at Nigerian English; if you can surpass that bar, very well.

Mrreed:

hater spotted... like we dont hv other universities with accented lecturers. presently doin advance studies in ABU. I cn hardly hear one of my lecturers due to his strong accent. does that make him bad?

Seriously? regrettably I missed out on dis comments hitherto.
So y'all accused me of being an hater and tried to defend ur overhyped sch (as expected)
surprisingly a thing amongst u called me an illiterate and questioned y I rated English above our native language, OK so quickly, d last time I checked English Language is still the OFFICIAL spoken language in Nigeria so if u av problem with dat be sure to table it be the rep members. n honestly insulting u at dis moment is futile.

Now to the rest of y'all, first I understand how embarrassing this might be for u guys being a student or an ex of d sch, buh what u av done wrong is trying to 'vaunt' d sch on a thread like dis, u were utterly prejudiced with your opinion and were obviously trying to salvage the already allayed reputation of d sch.

Like I said earlier, this man is or was d H.O.D of an English dept and hell yes, he is expected to be very much above par! I for one would not condone such condescending mediocrity. Y'all argued it's totally excusable n normal for his native accent to reflect in his elocution; rightfully so but then again it should only be condoned in another discipline/department where enunciation n rhetorics isn't giving much attention. (I suggested Yoruba n Agricultural Science but then again that thing was loosely ranting...)
a very good instance for u is, how is he supposed to lecture the students right on pronunciation and diction/Oral when most of his students probably speak more fluently than he does?

Here are some (not all) of his blunders from the audio, and NB this has nothing to do with accents, analysing his accent and pronunciation makes it even more worse;
"Shebi is that it?"
"When I don answer u now you will know" "Shebi is that what you want me to do"
"wah's it ehhhh, effisy, dis girl is doing effisy "
"you are fake! Why are you fake..."
"you are not the only one, so what are you special about?"
"Why are u pleasing me, for what" (Dis was his response wen d said "please sir"wink
"then have heard it lemme leave you"
"keep going, nothing again now"
"honestly if you explain yourself convincingly you will be left"

Such slips as above should never made by an English lecturers
of any standard university not the to mention the Head of the Department. what damn legacy is he inculcating to the students?

So please guys, I know it can be very excruciating to see your beloved sch languishing in the bad sight of the world at large. buh what u should rather do is channel ur aggression to d school management to conduct proper scrutiny before offering their appointment letters to avoid future occurrence of a similar issue.

Thanks

Ok,brov. I've feeling it'sn't compatible with CS6 or too powerful for your pc's VGA probably why it's greyed out. Am about to return to Photoshop CS6 this week & I'll see how it does on my end & give you feed ASAP,best regards

Thanks, I will be waiting. Buh jst a quick correction...the tool not working is actually the Oil Paint tool but not the liquify tool. And the Dedicated Video memory is 1GB while the Total available graphic memory is 2.17GB.

Hi @JAIDOR: That is really a peculiar problem. If you can increase your RAM to the highest capacity it can take please do and your storage space on your hard disk as well. Your VGA is just fine so it's puzzling me why Photoshop is asking for the GPU to be enabled when it's meant to be automatic. Now it brings me to the most pertinent question...What version is it 7,CS-CS6 or CC?!! Expecting your response ASAP,best regards...

I hope its not coming too late, its CS6. Av got CS5 installed too but u knw the liquify tool is just a new feature that comes with CS6. Is there way I can manually put the GPU on? why is it always greyed out. Thanks sir

Salute to everyone, pls I av a question for the gurus here, I am not able to use the 'Liquify' tool under filter...it keeps popping up a msgs that says turn on the GPU blah balh blah, n when I get to the preference to to dat it will be grayed out. This issue has been buggling me so much cos I often find myself needing to use the liquify tool for my designs. So what to u think is actually the cause? n how do I solve the problem? My system specs...3GB RAM, i5, 2GB video graphics, 320HDD Thanks

Dear nairalanders, I had to come back to this tread again because the situation of electricity has not improved in this area (Lakowe, Bogije etc) since the last time this thread was opened. The more excruciating part is that from mayfair down to awoyaya, shangotedo, abijo, etc to ajah, they has been constant electricity (courtesy of Buhari govt). Is this how tins are going to remain in this area? Is there any hope at all?
Lets talk abt this again fellas. Its high time we act.

Fellow Nairalanders, I need your candid opinion on an issue that has been bugging my mind and seriously in need of someone to advice me. I graduated from a government university in Nigeria, and out of my zeal to posses more knowledge, I decided to proceed to get my masters degree from a university in the united states. however, along the line i discovered that I will not be able to afford the outrageous fee been required by the university. a relative of mine then counselled me on starting all over again from a "Community College" in the state where I can then proceed to a university to get a Bachelor's degree (after four years). i need to know what you guys think about this...and perhaps if you have (or a relative of yours) gone through the community school so I could learn one or two things from you...if I could cope on my own financially (I plan to get a part-time job during schooling). Thanks

Seriously speaking, why would any sane person belive this story without any proper investigation e.g does pastor Kayode really exist in SCOAN? Can anyone else (Preferably SCOAN pastor or member) attest to the fact that his wife was staying in TB Joshua's church while he was in Ghana? Etc

All I just see here is people bashing TB Joshua as if they were there when he snatched the man's wife.

May God forgive us all

I noticed some of you freshers here have hostel issues...I am a final year student and I packed out my 2 rooms self contain hostel since first semester (I thought I wont stay there upto a year anymore). The last I checked (Before ASUU strike) the hostel was still available, if any you is interested I can help you enquire if it is still available now.

Things you may wanna know about it
Annual payment........90Kfirst year, 80k for the rest of the years.

Agent and Agreement......don't know hw much dis would be for now . If I had met anyone interested while I was still there, this wouldn't av been necessary.

The House.....A painted two story building, with the apartment at the first floor.

Owner........A very busy Landlady, medical doctor by profession and she does reside in the house, only comes once in a while, she wont trouble you as far as you dont owe her.

Water........Available

Location........Okokmaiko, 30 naira T fare OR 15 min walk to sch

The environment....Calm, Convinient and Highly serene.

NOTE: As at the time of typing, I can't vouch for the availabilty of the hostel, buh would only enquire if anyone shows interest. (Perherps two of you could merge...)
Education / To All The Pro-ASUU Folks. by jaidor: 12:31pm On Dec 03, 2013
The imbroglio between ASUU and FG has caused so much confusion in the country. However I was elicited to make a point to the public after reading some over-pampering comments from so many Nigerians in support of ASUU.

Yes I agree to the fact that education in Nigeria needs total overhauling but realistically, has the incessant strike being embarked upon by ASUU been able to make any 'significant' result?

We should all recall that some money has been released to ASUU prior to their strike in the past (although not the total of what they requested for) have we seen any impact of that in our tetiary education sector yet?

I did not create this thread to ridicle the stuggle of ASUU nor to support FG as we all know that FG also has not been exceptional fairing well in its role (not only in the education sector).

But I am of the opinion that ASUU as a body has not recorded any achievement in the past regarding their own role as academicians. How has ASUU or Lecturers been able to profer any reasonable and reliable solution to the copious challenges bedevilling our dear country Nigeria either by the inventions or innovation?
We have power challenges, Health challenges, agricultural challenges etc and yet our proclaimed lecturers have been silent on 'Individually or collectively' profering a lasting solution to these issues as done in the developed countries.
Did I hear you say no fund? How many lecturers have actaully claimed the research grants by FG and State governments?

So I think ASUU as a body should worry more about profering obvious solutions to the country and leave upto what is expectated from them as academician. Rather than quoting verbatim from textbooks and reaserches (by their counterparts in other countries) and calling it lecturing.

As for the strike, I expected ASUU a union of high esteemed interlectuals to have considered the stats of their strike from inception and ask themselves if it has yielded their desired results? How many more years are they going to strike for till they achieve all their demands?

This is the point which I need the pro-ASUU folks to understand. They always say stuffs like "Let the governmet provide all their demands once an for all, so that there won't be ASUU strike again, and our children will not suffer anymore from the strike".
But I dare confute their claims. Stop being brain-washed by ASUU, because ASUU is an egotistic body and would always continue to make fresh demands from FG, (even after the full implementation of this much vaunted 2009 agreement), so you can envisage the omen of what would happen if the future demands are not met or delayed. ANOTHER STRIKE!

Now lets take a look at it from another point of view, we all know that UNILORIN has opted out from national ASUU for some years now, and as such they've had and still have the most stable academic calender in the country. Now the question we should ask ourselves are, has the school not been making demands from FG since they officailly opted out of ASUU? were their demands immediately met or there were some delays in meeting their demands? Do they resort to strike for that?
has the non-involvement of the sch in ASUU strike worsened the development of the sch?
The last time I checked the sch is among the best 100 universities in Africa.

Now I can conclude that as it stands, ASUU is only taking the advantage of students and Nigerians by going on strike for several months and expecting the payment of their full salaries.

UNANIMOUSLY, LET'S SAY NO TO INCESSANT ASUU STRIKE, IT IS NOT AND WOULD NOT BE THE SOLUTION TO THE WORRISOME STATE OF THE EDUCATION SECTOR RATHER IT WOULD FUTHER WORSEN THE SITUATION, AS MORE DEMANDS WOULD STILL BE MADE IN THE FUTURE!
