Education / VC Of Ibadan University Explains How Student Died by Jannie1999(f): 9:40am On May 14, 2015
The Vice Chancellor of the University
of Ibadan, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has
given an account of how an
undergraduate of the school, Mayowa
Alaran, died last
Thursday which resulted in major
protests in the school.
Fellow students of the deceased had
alleged that their colleague who
slumped while watching a match,
passed away due to negligence by staff
of the school’s medical center.
Speaking with newsmen in the school
campus today May 13th, the Vice
Chancellor debunked the students
claims.
Read The VC Statement Below:-
“He carried out his normal activities
earlier on Wednesday, May 6, 2015.
Very early in the day, he attended the
Gymnastics practical with other
students in his Department (7.00 –
9.00 a.m.).
He later went to attend the Induction
Programme organized for fresh
students in his department.
He attempted to participate in a
football match between his
Department of Health Education and
Human Kinetics and the Department
of Library and Archival Studies
(LARIS) in the afternoon, but could
not due to the fact that he did not
train with his department’s team.
He thereafter returned to the faculty
to attend a GES class that held
between 4.00 – 6.00p.m.
It was from here that he later
returned to Independence Hall toy
watch a football match between
Barcelona and Bayern Munich relayed
in the Junior Common Room, JCR.
The match started at 7.45 pm that
evening. A generator was used to
supply electricity to the JCR due to
power outage that evening.
The generator was placed about 50
meters away from the JCR. The student
sat in the front row and was facing a
non-rotating standing fan in the JCR.
At about 30 minutes into the football
match, a student sitting next to him
observed that he had slumped and was
motionless.
The concerned student promptly
carried him out of the JCR for
resuscitation with the assistance of
some medical students around who
gave him mouth-to-mouth
resuscitation” he said.

Celebrities / Man Who Had Sugery To Look Like Kim Kardashian Now Has Leaking Lips(pics) by Jannie1999(f): 11:33pm On May 13, 2015
Jordan James Parke spent over
$100,000 on cosmetic surgeries to
make his face look like Kim
Kardashian’s.
The 23-year-old British makeup artist
has had botox, fillers and facials
inspired by his idol; he has even
indicated interest in having fat
injected in his butt to complete the
signature Kardashian look.
But Jordan is having some problems
now: the lip filler used to plump up
his pout has started to leak!
Speaking to the doctor’s on E!’s
plastic surgery correction show
Botched, he said “I wanted just a little
bit of definition and they just got
bigger and bigger,” he told the
doctors. “(Now) I’m worried if they
keep leaking I’m going to end up with
small lips again!”
Apart from the potentially disastrous
situation with his lips, the botox has
also rendered the young makeup
artist almost expressionless; “I can’t
really move my face,” he said.
Still, he is undeterred in his quest to
replicate Kim Kardashian’s looks
because, as he explained, he is getting
attention to his lips.
“Any attention is good attention,” he
insisted.

Politics / Court Orders Banks To Freeze Governor Lamido's Accounts by Jannie1999(f): 1:02pm On May 12, 2015
A Federal High court sitting in Dutse,
Jigawa state capital has ordered all
commercial banks operating in the
state to freeze accounts bearing the
names of Governor Sule Lamido,
Birnin-Kudu local government and
the Jigawa state government with
immediate effect.
The court also summoned all
commercial banks in the state to
appear before its with statements of
their accounts.
The court’s decision followed the
refusal of the governor and the state
government to obey the court’s order
in a judgment to pay the sum of N50
million as compensation to APC
senator-elect, Muhammad Sabo
Nakudu and one other.
Reports indicated that the court gave
the order during a court proceeding
presided by Justice Sabiu Yahuza who
gave the verdict after the plaintiff
through their counsel Barrister Umar
Aliyu to complain of dependent’s
refusal to comply with the court
judgment to pay the damage
compensation.
Speaking after the court order, the
plaintiff counsel, Barrister Umar
Aliyu expressed satisfaction with the
court decision, “we dragged Jigawa
state governor and the state
government, Birnin-kudu local
government and state’s commissioner
of police to the court for illegal
trespass, attacking my client resident
in Birnin-kudu town and violation of
his right”.
“We convinced the court beyond
reasonable doubt with genuine
evidence, the court made the
judgment in our favor and ordered
the dependents to pay my clients the
sum of N50 million, the dependent
failed to abide by the court verdict
within the period provides by the
law”.
According to him that was why they
went back to court and complained,
hence the court ordered and served
all the Banks in the state with the
order of freezing their dependent’s
banks accounts until after the verdicts
on the matter.
The Attorney general later called and
said “I’m having a meeting with the
Secretary to the State Government
(SSG), I will call you later”, but till
the time of filing in this report he
didn’t call back.

Celebrities / Don Jazzy And Mavins Set To Port To Glo In Multi Million Naira Deal by Jannie1999(f): 12:45pm On May 12, 2015
The audacious move comes just
months before the contract of
Nigeria’s foremost producer is due for
renewal with MTN.
According to a source close to the
negotiations, news of Don Jazzy’s
availability came up just as Globacom
was preparing offers to add Mavin’s
rising musicians Di’Ja, Reekado Banks
and Korede Bello to their fold of
brand ambassadors.
The source added that not only is Glo
eager to sign the young ones all at
once, they are determined to break
the bank by also offering a record-
breaking deal to Don Jazzy.
The Mavin Records CEO, who
currently has just two months to run
on his MTN deal, recently broke the
internet with news of his signing with
online retail giant, Konga. He is
considered an overlord of social
media influencers and played an
active role in creating awareness for
the APC in the just concluded
elections.
Although the other Mavin acts – Tiwa
Savage, Dr. Sid, D’Prince – all have
individual deals with MTN, any move
to GLO by the head honcho would
most likely result in a mass exodus
which would hit the South African
Telco hard.
The younger younger trio were signed
to Mavin Records a year ago and have
already planted their feet firmly in
the Nigerian music industry, with hit
solo songs and hit collaborations.
Sierra-Leonean-Nigerian Hadiza Blell
(Di’Ja) is the sonorous voice behind
the love song, Awww. Her music
career started off with relative
acclaim in Canada before she moved
back to Nigeria in what has turned
out to be a most lucrative decision:
joining Mavin Records.
Korede Bello, consistently sets the
hearts of his female fans racing with
songs like African Prince and Cold
Outside. He also has an endorsement
deal with Woodin under his belt.
Reekado Banks, hailed by many for
not just his good voice but his street
cred, is best known for his song, Chop
Am. The recent graduate of the
University of Lagos is a favourite
amongst young Nigerians.
All efforts to get a statement from
Mavin Records PR proved abortive as
they declined to comment.

Health / Causes Of Stomach Cancer by Jannie1999(f): 11:04am On May 12, 2015
Stomach cancer begins when cancer cells
form in the inner lining of your stomach .
These cells can grow into a tumor. Also called
gastric cancer, the disease usually grows
slowly over many years.
If you know the symptoms it causes, you and
your doctor may be able to spot it early,
when it’s easiest to treat.
What Causes Stomach Cancer?
Scientists don’t know exactly what makes
cancer cells start growing in the stomach. But
they do know a few things that can raise your
risk for the disease. One of them is infection
with a common bacteria, H. pylori, which
causes ulcers. Inflammation in your gut called
gastritis, long-lasting anemia, and growths in
your stomach called polyps also can make you
more likely to get cancer.
Other things that seem to play a role in
raising the risk include:
Smoking

Being overweight or obese

A diet high in smoked, pickled, or salty
foods

Stomach surgery for an ulcer

Type-A blood

Epstein-Barr virus infection

Certain genes

Working in coal, metal, timber, or rubber
industries

Exposure to asbestos
