My DC 2007 leaks transmission fluid when I'm driving . Mechanic says it is leaking at the top of the transmission just under the battery, that he will use 1000 naira gum to stop the leakage. Please I need advice as I don't know if ordinary 1000 naira gum can solve this problem. Does anyone have similar experience or know about how this leakage be permanently solved or will the gum work as suggested by my mechanic. It only leaks out when engine is hot, when parked to cool, the fluid doesn't leak out
No it won't stop the leaks

MrReeseG:
Hello

So while heading home on Friday
I noticed my car wasn't braking well. I had to step on it with more force than usual and even at that, it's deceleration was slow (very unusual).
I parked and checked my brake fluid to be sure and upon opening I noticed it was overflowing (just as if it was bled).

It was on the expressway and at midnight so I just drove it home like that.
On the way home, I noticed my D light blinking green (instead of just being stable green) and just as I was backing into the house the N light came on too.
Upon parking, the P light is on (which is normal), the D light is blinking green and the N light is stable red.

Car is an 09 Civic Hybrid.
Your brakes are likely binding and the heat is causing the oil to boil over. I suspect that's why it was overflowing out from the reservoir.
I also suspect the brake binding issue overworked and stressed your transmission.
Kindly run a scan on the system.

Alright boss.
But what am I supposed to check for?
1st run a live scan on the sensor and confirm it has voltage reading on it and it's also reading the amount of oxygen in the exhaust while car is running.
2nd use your multimeter to read the ohms on the sensor and compare values with manufactures specs.

Good day gurus.
I took my lexus es350 for paint job and small exhaust leakage work. I was with him the day he worked on the exhaust but the day he did the painting I wasn't there. Only for me to take my car back, drove for some miles and error popped out of the cluster display. I scanned and it's saying P0420 catalytic converter system, bank 1 inefficiency below threshold. He swore he didn't take my catalyst when I asked him so he opened the exhaust gasket which houses the catalyst under the car and the it's intact.

So I don't know why the car is still throwing up that code after clearing and driving for some miles
Check your AF sensor.

Bros that it's luxury does not mean it MUST have errors...mine has none and I do use bluedriver scanner which is relatively advanced.

That said, if the likes of the corollas have the similar sensors that exists in luxury equivalent, they may throw so much errors as well, because it's not showing errors does not mean the corolla is in a healthy state. There are more unhealthy corolla around than unhealthy luxury equivalent
Point out where I said all luxury cars must have errors. My argument is that most (Nigerian used cars and emphasis on 9 out of 10) have non drivetrain related codes that owners tend to overlook since it does not pose driveability concerns and does not trigger a CEL.
These argument started when I said it's not fair mixing luxury and reliability together.
It's common knowledge in the automotive world that luxury cars (from when accountants and not engineers started calling the shot) have higher maintenance bill with more visits to the shops than regular economy car.
As an Acura owner, you would agree with me that it will cost you more running your RDX when compared to a CRV that is from same brand. So it has nothing to do with brand. Those extra luxury features will cost you more in repair bills.
Car Talk / Re: Car Talk Chat Room by jceesquare(m): 11:46am On Sep 16, 2023
ojeysky:

I drive a RDX daily, since over 2 years I have not done anything significant on it apart from oil change and of recent gear oil change. I probably will have done a couple of stuff in a Toyota equivalent. Funny enough, RDX parts ain't expensive as well. Performance is a priority for me and I didn't get that in my former RAV4 for instance which is equivalent of an RDX
Like I said, the fact that it runs and drive with no CEL does not mean it's in factory tip top shape.
Run a full system scan with an high-end scanner and see if there are codes on it or not.
9 out of 10 luxury cars in Nigeria have codes that are not drivetrain related and owners just simply turn blind eyes to.
Nobody is saying you can't daily a luxury brand. My argument is, if you choose to address every code on it and keep the car running as designed, you'll spend more in repair bills when compared with regular economic car.

Toyotas are notorious for showing several lights that might be unrelated on the dash for power train related codes.
Address those codes and your slip light, VSC, check light and other Christmas lights should go off.

I repair cars and manage fleets and from experience, I have seen corolla and civic as the most abused vehicles on our roads. I have quite a number of high end cars that have zero error on their computers.
I also repair cars too. Put those luxury brands to go through same abuse that a Corolla would go through and come out unfazed then give your findings.
I still maintain that when you run a full system scan on high-end luxury cars, 9 out of 10 of them will throw several codes.
Like I said, the fact that it starts and drive don't mean they're in perfect shape. Hope you know most body codes won't trigger a check light sa.

Some utilize radio frequency trapping, they use a specialized tool in mimicking the key fob frequency. If you check the list of stolen cars, you will see german cars are rarely there or very few in number.
Naaaa. European cars are not spared from the trade, they only require a more sophisticated approach and the demand for it is not that much.
Saw a 50+mins documentary on the entire car theft industry and I just concluded that it will never stop. That industry is a multi billion dollars industry with a lot of corrupt individuals from all sectors benefiting from it.

A Lexus Rx, Es, GS, IS, Acura MDX, RDX, TL, TLX, Mercedes C, E, ML/GLE series are luxury brands and they're durable and reliable. Pretty reliable and durable models from their respective marques. Heck, I know quite a number of Nigerians using these cars as a daily driven cars with none other as alternative. Guess what? They're doing pretty well and holding up just fine.
The repair bills won't be same as a regular commuter car because when those luxury features starts breaking down (which they sometimes do earlier than expected) you'll understand that you shouldn't put luxury and reliability in the same context.
For the record, a Corolla/Civic would be tagged more reliable than a Mercedes C class or BMW 3 series.
A Camry/Accord would outlive and be cheaper to maintain with fewer parts breaking down than a Mercedes E class.
Just the same way the Avalon would be on the road longer than an S class for example.
Those cars are somewhat categorized in similar or closer class range.
The fact that it starts and drive don't mean they're in tip top shape.
When you hookup an advanced scanner and run a full system scan on those luxury vehicle, you'll be shocked at the number of faults you'll pull out that the owners have turned a blind eyes to.

Hi. My gear suddenly does not enter reverse.once I park and the car engine b3comes a bit cold.lets say for 2hrs. The gear won't enter reverse again. When I'm driving. It will be revving very high snd refuse to switch gears till I've driven about almost 30mins. I checked the gear underneath and I can see some oil dripping in the middle and against the gear oil seal pan..... pls what's the solution. Been managing the gear like that for almost 2years due to the fact that since the clutch was not aligned properly ,the car got into limp mode and does not exceed 3000 rpm. Now my gear doesn't enter reverse once the gear is hot.it will only enter reverse after I've driven for like almost 40mins to an hour. Pls what's the solution or should I scrap the gear and get another toks. I keep topping the oil every 1 week. Even though the oil is guage but the gear has started acting funny. The center console of the car gets hot,the shift level also gets hot. Since the oil is leaking.
It's best if you change the transmission as a whole

Low on fuel doesn't necessarily mean the car can't pick up fuel. If the fuel pump is submerged and can still pick up some fuel yet, it's showing low fuel warning mark, it's still low.

It may interest you to know that for different cars and makes and models, low fuel can be different fuel amount left in reserve.
Of course I understand your point, that's why I painted a scenario of a failing pump and low fuel level. Besides the warning light would not show how much liter of fuel you have left in the tank to know if the pump is still submerged or not.
1. A failing pump (probably due to constant running on low fuel) will heat up faster and drop pressure if you run it on low fuel. That will cause the car to run lean, struggle, and heat up faster (may or may not necessarily cause overheating depending on the state of the cooling system and several other factors).
2. Also when you run your tank low, you'll agree with me that there are high chances of your car sucking dirt that will clog and restrict flow of petrol. That's another lean mixture scenery there.
Car Talk / Re: Tell Us Your Car Fault Lets Assess And Fix Them by jceesquare(m): 3:59pm On Sep 09, 2023
kingreign:

Lean mixture is as a result of failing AF sensor or MAF or bad fuel pump and not low fuel level.
So what happens when you have lean mixture caused by all or some of the above (bad fuel pump in particular) and you're running low on petrol?
Won't the car overheat?
A low petrol level even with all those things you listed working fine will also cause a car to run lean momentarily until the pump stops picking up fuel. If that is enough to cause the car to overheat is another angle that is debatable.

Thanks my oga, we adjusted(alittle expansion) the retainer spring, still same thing.
If you've done that and it still pops out, then I'm afraid you have a bad differential.
You might need to change the differential (good luck sourcing for one and fixing), or change the transmission as a whole.
Or do it the African way. Cut a large chunk of rubber slippers (mechanic should use his discretion) and add inside the cup, fill the cup with generous amount of grease and slap the shaft inside then you'll be good to go.

What is lean mixture please. I'm not used to that terminology.
Means you have more air and less petrol in your combustion chamber.
Car Talk / Re: Tell Us Your Car Fault Lets Assess And Fix Them by jceesquare(m): 9:52am On Sep 09, 2023

I doubt.
jamesversion:
@Kingreign, is there a correlation between engine overheating and low fuel (yellow fuel light).
A lean mixture would cause your engine to overheat.
A car that is running extremely lean would overheat and when you compound it with low fuel level, you make matters worse if you keep forcing the car to run that way.
