MrReeseG:Your brakes are likely binding and the heat is causing the oil to boil over. I suspect that's why it was overflowing out from the reservoir. I also suspect the brake binding issue overworked and stressed your transmission. Kindly run a scan on the system. 3 Likes |

eightsin:1st run a live scan on the sensor and confirm it has voltage reading on it and it's also reading the amount of oxygen in the exhaust while car is running. 2nd use your multimeter to read the ohms on the sensor and compare values with manufactures specs. 2 Likes |

ojeysky:Point out where I said all luxury cars must have errors. My argument is that most (Nigerian used cars and emphasis on 9 out of 10) have non drivetrain related codes that owners tend to overlook since it does not pose driveability concerns and does not trigger a CEL. These argument started when I said it's not fair mixing luxury and reliability together. It's common knowledge in the automotive world that luxury cars (from when accountants and not engineers started calling the shot) have higher maintenance bill with more visits to the shops than regular economy car. As an Acura owner, you would agree with me that it will cost you more running your RDX when compared to a CRV that is from same brand. So it has nothing to do with brand. Those extra luxury features will cost you more in repair bills. |
Car Talk / Re: Car Talk Chat Room by jceesquare(m): 11:46am On Sep 16, 2023 |
ojeysky:Like I said, the fact that it runs and drive with no CEL does not mean it's in factory tip top shape. Run a full system scan with an high-end scanner and see if there are codes on it or not. 9 out of 10 luxury cars in Nigeria have codes that are not drivetrain related and owners just simply turn blind eyes to. Nobody is saying you can't daily a luxury brand. My argument is, if you choose to address every code on it and keep the car running as designed, you'll spend more in repair bills when compared with regular economic car. 1 Like |

dubsy20:Toyotas are notorious for showing several lights that might be unrelated on the dash for power train related codes. Address those codes and your slip light, VSC, check light and other Christmas lights should go off. |

kingreign:I also repair cars too. Put those luxury brands to go through same abuse that a Corolla would go through and come out unfazed then give your findings. I still maintain that when you run a full system scan on high-end luxury cars, 9 out of 10 of them will throw several codes. Like I said, the fact that it starts and drive don't mean they're in perfect shape. Hope you know most body codes won't trigger a check light sa. 2 Likes |

Saw a 50+mins documentary on the entire car theft industry and I just concluded that it will never stop. That industry is a multi billion dollars industry with a lot of corrupt individuals from all sectors benefiting from it. 1 Like |

kingreign:The repair bills won't be same as a regular commuter car because when those luxury features starts breaking down (which they sometimes do earlier than expected) you'll understand that you shouldn't put luxury and reliability in the same context. For the record, a Corolla/Civic would be tagged more reliable than a Mercedes C class or BMW 3 series. A Camry/Accord would outlive and be cheaper to maintain with fewer parts breaking down than a Mercedes E class. Just the same way the Avalon would be on the road longer than an S class for example. Those cars are somewhat categorized in similar or closer class range. The fact that it starts and drive don't mean they're in tip top shape. When you hookup an advanced scanner and run a full system scan on those luxury vehicle, you'll be shocked at the number of faults you'll pull out that the owners have turned a blind eyes to. 2 Likes |

Car Talk / Re: Tell Us Your Car Fault Lets Assess And Fix Them by jceesquare(m): 8:40pm On Sep 09, 2023 |
kingreign:Of course I understand your point, that's why I painted a scenario of a failing pump and low fuel level. Besides the warning light would not show how much liter of fuel you have left in the tank to know if the pump is still submerged or not. 1. A failing pump (probably due to constant running on low fuel) will heat up faster and drop pressure if you run it on low fuel. That will cause the car to run lean, struggle, and heat up faster (may or may not necessarily cause overheating depending on the state of the cooling system and several other factors). 2. Also when you run your tank low, you'll agree with me that there are high chances of your car sucking dirt that will clog and restrict flow of petrol. That's another lean mixture scenery there. |
Car Talk / Re: Tell Us Your Car Fault Lets Assess And Fix Them by jceesquare(m): 3:59pm On Sep 09, 2023 |
kingreign:So what happens when you have lean mixture caused by all or some of the above (bad fuel pump in particular) and you're running low on petrol? Won't the car overheat? A low petrol level even with all those things you listed working fine will also cause a car to run lean momentarily until the pump stops picking up fuel. If that is enough to cause the car to overheat is another angle that is debatable. 1 Like |

harshimyomesk:If you've done that and it still pops out, then I'm afraid you have a bad differential. You might need to change the differential (good luck sourcing for one and fixing), or change the transmission as a whole. Or do it the African way. Cut a large chunk of rubber slippers (mechanic should use his discretion) and add inside the cup, fill the cup with generous amount of grease and slap the shaft inside then you'll be good to go. 2 Likes |

kingreign: jamesversion:A lean mixture would cause your engine to overheat. A car that is running extremely lean would overheat and when you compound it with low fuel level, you make matters worse if you keep forcing the car to run that way. |
