Politics / Re: Protesting Youths Beat-up Ogun Lawmakers Over Non-Performance by jonot: 11:05am On Jul 19, 2013
I would say this is a welcome development. It's time our political leaders in Naija are challenged about non-performance so they can actually do the jobs they have committed to. If some have to be beaten for them to see reason, too bad for them. We shouldnt keep accepting nonsense from them.

Re: The Most Annoying Advert You Have Seen On TV? by ItsModella: 9:50pm On Jul 07
Mine is that foolish Knorr chicken advert where some old woman was looking through the kitchen cabinets for chicken because she thought the daughter hid it. Like wtf is that?

I'm not familiar with a lot of the ads mentioned but I totally agree with the above. I still saw it last night & that advert annoys me to no end.
Celebrities / Re: Patience Ozokwor vs. Liz Benson by jonot: 3:05pm On Jul 05, 2013
Both good actresses (not sure Liz Benson is still acting though) but I dont think theres a basis for comparison. Liz Benson is classy & comes across as a sophisticated lady of the world. Patience Ozokwor is a bit more homely & "vilagey", no offence meant.

Politics / Re: Oba Ovonramwem Arrested And Taken-Out Of His Palace (Picture) by jonot: 12:12pm On May 24, 2013
Found this on Wikipedia:

Ovonramwen Nogbaisi came to be the Oba of Benin in 1888.[1]
At the end of the 19th century, the Kingdom of Benin had managed to retain its independence and the Oba exercised a monopoly over trade which the British found irksome. The territory was coveted by an influential group of investors for its rich natural resources such as palm-oil, rubber and ivory.[2] The kingdom was largely independent of British control, and pressure continued from figures such as Vice-Consul James Robert Phillips and Captain Gallwey (the British vice-Consul of Oil Rivers Protectorate) who were pushing for British annexation of the Benin Empire and the removal of the Oba.
A British invasion force headed by Phillips set out to overthrow the Oba in 1896. The force's weapons were hidden in baggage, with troops disguised as bearers. Phillips plan was to gain access to Ovonramwen's palace by announcing that he intended to negotiate. Ovonramwen's messengers issued several warnings not to violate Benin territorial sovereignty, claiming he was unable to see Phillips due to ceremonial duties. Having been warned on several further occasions on the way, Phillips sent his stick to the Oba, a deliberate insult designed to provoke the conflict that would provide an excuse for British annexation.[3] Phillip's expedition was ambushed and all but two were killed. Subsequently a military operation against Benin in 1897 led by Harry Rawson resulted in the burning of Benin City and the deaths of untold numbers of its inhabitants. Although the British had orders to hang the Oba, Ovonramwen escaped, but later surrendered.
Ovonramwen was exiled to Calabar with his two wives, and died there in 1914.

This is truly sad. and i dont understand why some people are using it as a basis to insult the Igbos. devilish deeds are done by all - white, black, brown, etc, as long as the fear of God is gone/absent. may God have mercy on our generation, that is so perverted & wicked & where the hearts of men are solely given to devising more evil deeds. cry

Family / Re: Raising A Child To Speak English In Nigeria: Is It Proper? by jonot: 1:06pm On May 06, 2013
This is one of the best posts I've come across on this forum. maybe it's cos I've also found it a disturbing trend among we Nigerians, especially Yorubas. A lot of Naija kids here (born to Naija parents) hardly understand our indigenous languages, not to talk of speaking. And I find out that South African children speak their languages (including the Afrikaans!). We certainly need to seriously wonder what would happen to our cultures in the next 50 - 70 years if we continue this way.

I do hope our generation would do something about it.

God help us all.

the least that should happen is to allow the man get treatment as well. if a case for whatever will be brought against him, he shouldnt be allowed to rot in detention in the meantime. his family should raise an alarm ASAP!

TV/Movies / Re: Nigerian Actors Who Are The Same In Every Movie by jonot: 1:34pm On Apr 17, 2013
cheesy grin this post is funny. there might be some stereotyping but we still have to appreciate most of these people, cos they are trying. i think some of the actors/actresses who acted in the soaps we used to watch in the 80s/90s would have fared better. still, kudos to Nollywood. just that it's time to up their game.

I wonder what the state of the world we live in will be, in the next 10-15 years, when men say what is essentially foreign to nature is right & we have to accept it whether we like it or not. how can a man burn with desire for another? how come our fathers' fathers' generations didnt do it, if it was right?

Both are definitely masters in the field, but I personally prefer Obey. A lot of people have summed up why really. His songs are really uplifting, especially for those of us whom are not at home.
