Phones / Stay Safe Online, Check Out These Tips by KCode: 4:01pm On Jul 13, 2018
With hacks, scams, malware and more, the Internet can feel like a dangerous place these days.

But the good news is that by taking just a small handful of security measures we can greatly reduce our exposure to all these threats.

Quick tips:

- Create strong passwords.
- Never give out your passwords.
- Do not click links unnecessarily.
- While sharing content from another source, use your discretion.
- Mind who you share your personal information with.
- Avoid being rude online, respect other people's opinions.
- Protect your mobile life, use an antivirus.
- Practice safe surfing & shopping online.
- Keep all your software up to date (*coughs, I'm a bit guilty of this, *coughs).
- Be cautious of what you do online; mind the sites you visit.
- Make sure to follow IT security pages on social media to learn more.

The first impulse is usually to ask what will one do with a whole terabyte of space, but I'm sure that was the same thing asked when the 1Gigabyte phone was first released.
Did you know that a few decades ago 640KB memory on a computer was regarded as worthwhile? So for this new development, only time will tell when it will go mainstream.

Science/Technology / Considering The Apple Ecosystem? You're Not Alone by KCode: 4:50pm On Apr 04, 2018
Apple just launched its new iPad which is ideal for students. With nice specs and a moderate price. But which is the best tablet out there? It's definitely an iPad. With that said, guess you're interested in an getting an iPad, you want to ditch Android tabs because you need real quality coming from the best of the best: the iPad! Okay, but you might want to rethink that. The thing is buying an apple product requires you to remain consistent on the various series of apple products to get the best user experience. They're all streamlined and rely on one another to be efficient. Consider using an iPhone, with the apple watch, a mac computer, would be ideal, then the iPad. With all these synced together you enjoy it better sticking to the apple ecosystem.

Phones / Mah (battery) Explained! by KCode: 3:30pm On Feb 28, 2018
How long should a smartphone battery last? How well should it hold up to heavy usage? Perhaps you're not familiar with the benchmark tests and the battery ratings of the new smartphone you're buying; there is one little detail you need to note - the size of the battery. And it is measured in mAh (S.I unit).

For an in-depth look, here's an excerpt from androidauthority.com :

"
The A is capitalized because, under the International System of Units, “ampere” is always represented with a capital A. The term mAh is an abbreviation for “milliampere hour,” and it’s a way to express the electrical capacity of smaller batteries. With larger batteries, like car batteries, we usually use ampere hours, or Ah. There are 1000 mAh in a single Ah. mAh is calculated by multiplying the amount of time the battery lasts by the amperes of the discharge current.
That may sound complicated, but it’s really not that bad. If you have a battery and you don’t know what it’s capacity it is, all you have to do is hook it up to supply a 1000 mA discharge and see how long it lasts. If it lasts an hour, hey, you’ve got a 1000mAh battery. If it lasts 7 and a half hours, well then you’re holding a 7500mAh battery.
In real life, discharge rates vary not only from device to device, but also user to user. How efficiently your smartphone manages its battery power plays a role, but so too does the amount of active screen time you typically experience as well as how resource-hungry your apps are. So, while the mAh can give you a reasonably good idea about how long a battery will last, the figure doesn’t tell the whole story. That’s why it’s always a good idea to check reviews and see what other users’ experiences have been like before buying a smartphone.
Battery life is effectively inversely correlated to how frustrated you will be with a mobile device. One of the biggest complaints we hear about a smartphone or tablet is that the battery dies in the middle of the day. If you want a positive handset experience, mAh size is one of the first figures you should look at.
"

With that said you get the drill: the higher the mAh the better the battery. But not so with all devices. Why? It is because some manufacturers may bump up the battery size but run a high quality display, a super fast processor, and premium specs which saps rapidly the juice from the battery. If you're to pick up a new device and are battery focused, make sure to relate it with other specs to find out how overwhelming the battery drain might take effect.

Despite the various data plans advertised by the data providers in Nigeria, their prices of data, data caps and poor network connections are still nothing to write home about.Glo data cap reduction is still fresh in our minds despite their poor network.

As for me, I subcribe to both ntel and mtn for light streaming/browsing(phone)

ntel unlimited night plans for heavy downloads /streaming.

Mtn night plans for light works.

So which of them is your favourite?

I regret buying Tecno phone most especially camon CX cos the phone is full of fault. Imagine a phone that is malfunctioning in terms of the phone restarting by its self and after restarting the apps in the phone will be appearing double not only that u can't switch off the phone or restart it urself unless u press and hold on to the button. The latest fault now is that the camera that was awesome before has now turn to a nightmare to me. Pls my advice is do not buy Tecno or infinix or itel phones they re complete low quality phones. I don't want any body to regret it later just as iam right now.
It's clear that that particular unit has issues, no doubt. But you shouldn't use that to generalize. It can discourage others.
Properties / Maintenance Culture In Nigeria by KCode: 12:49pm On Nov 21, 2017
Maintenance means the process of preserving something or keeping it in good condition. Then culture on the other hand is a way of life, habit & custom.

Nigeria sadly has a poor maintenance culture, especially of our properties & buildings.

A great portion of a nation's wealth is evident in the total value of its public properties and buildings.

A great deal of the control begins from the design phase.

I believe if we determine in doing things the right way, it'll be effective.
Science/Technology / Enough Of Making Promises Of Stable Power Without Any Effectiveness by KCode: 12:18pm On Nov 21, 2017
In a time when Companies are building rockets and electric cars; this Nation, Nigeria is still battling with its power supply. *Smh... I believe if we get creative enough and take the necessary risk, why shouldn't it be effective?

If our leaders keep making promises of stable power without any effectiveness, those promises are nothing but useless. As a matter of fact, I'm less concerned of when power would be stable, but of what we're doing towards it and how effective it can get.

My dear, where there is no light, there is no vision, isn't it? So how can one, in this second decade of the 21st century boast of the quality of life in this condition?
Science/Technology / The Internet, Becoming So Important by KCode: 9:08pm On Oct 30, 2017
Tech is moving way too fast. The Internet is a big source of information nowadays. You do not necessarily need to get information the traditional way. You can consume the lot you want, whether in a big way (videos, streaming, etc) or in a small way (texts, pictures, etc)

Today, the internet has become the most important information source for those who use the internet. In 2012, the internet shared the same spot as television, but today the internet has passed this and has on average 3.9 points than TV's 3.6 points on a scale of 1-5 in a recent study.

There is joy in learning. We learn on the internet everyday. And also through discovering new things on our apps and devices.

Science/Technology / R&D, An Essential For Tech Innovation by KCode: 8:55pm On Oct 30, 2017
I remember watching Steve Jobs introduce the first iPhone. He made mention of some things that got me thinking. And I paraphrase "Software on mobile phones is like baby software. But today we're gonna introduce to you a software breakthrough. Such as you've never seen, software that is at least five years ahead of what's on any other phone."

You know, for a Company to launch a new product or come up with an innovation, intense work (R&grin) would have been up and running for something creative to happen. And this takes years.

Take a look at this excerpt from a 2014 Journal: "One of the leading unrealized opportunities in Nigerian industrial organizations is the full influence of research ideas and knowledge to transform business products and processes into long-term innovation."

Going forward, the future is bright with technology, it gets better.

Science/Technology / The Help Of A Tech Review by KCode: 10:55am On Oct 03, 2017
Review, simply means a survey of available items.

Reviews have done more good than bad for me. There are so many categories of reviews that do a lot to convince the audience.

I love reading the reviews on Playstore before downloading most apps. It helps - works for me.

There are a lot of gadget reviews on the internet - from smartphone to laptop to accessory reviews. Most of them help you make purchase decisions, however biased some may seem.

We all love reviews - They help us avoid wasting our hard earned money on items that are not very functional to our taste. We often get influenced by some reviewers and pay attention to their experiences - this stirs up interactions.

Overall, reviews are useful, informing you about the pros and cons, and letting you know if you can live with them.

Pls Op go back to that your study again and do more research.

Do you know why your phone is called Smartphone? With smartphone, there's nothing like over charging. The phone is so smart that it knows when it needs no more current and switches itself off from charging even if you leaves the charger connected overnight, no more current will pass into the battery until there was a usage that will prompt charging to start again.

Phones / The Reality Of Unhealthy Smartphone Charging by KCode: 11:48pm On Sep 29, 2017
I cannot begin to overemphasize the importance of charging our devices, especially our smartphones - you can relate to that.

Charging is fast becoming a way of life for most people, isn't it so?

My focus on this post is on smartphone charging. We even go as much as charging them overnight, but is it a healthy habit at that?

Leaving your smartphone plugged-in overnight while you sleep doesn't do good to it at all. Right from the first charge after purchase the battery starts to depreciate, but even at that, not so terribly as when its ideally charged.
Leaving your smartphone charged up to 100% isn't beneficial - I've done my study. Stop your charging a little above 90% or a little below 90%.
Another thing, when it goes below 20% it reads red, and that's a sign of imminent depreciation. Charging at 40% is better.
Worse case scenario is allowing it go battery empty. This has a negative effect on the life span of the battery.
With mobile technology seeing so much development and smartphones coming out more frequently with non-removeable batteries, it makes more sense to maintain a healthy battery life if you desire to use the device for a couple of years.
And here comes a typical question when you want to trade-in a smartphone: how good is its battery life?

Phones / Microsoft Is Believing To Transform A Phone Into A Desktop by KCode: 4:59pm On May 05, 2017
Microsoft has not released a new Windows Phone for more than 12 months now. As Windows Phone market fell below 1 percent, Microsoft has taken up the challenge to do some restructuring, after letting Nokia go, which would be finalized in June, but we're not quite sure what the company has in store for Windows 10 mobile.

Satya Nadella, the CEO, believes Microsoft will still make phones. And to complement that, he said: "We make phones today, we have OEM's like HP making phones and others, and we picked a very specific area to focus on which is management, security, and this one particular feature that we have called Continuum, which is a phone that can even be a desktop."

He also noted that, Microsoft is focused on making its apps and services available on iOS and Android right now. And then he claimed, "So when you say 'when will we make more phones? I'm sure we'll make more phones. But they may not look like phones that are there today."

Microsoft is believing to transform a phone with the use of "Continuum" into a desktop or laptop. How far they can go? Only time will tell. But it's good to see them make an effort.

Phones / Apple May Hold Back Its Iphone 8 Release Till 2018 by KCode: 3:35pm On May 05, 2017
Apple is working on two new iPhone models of the iPhone 8; of which will be thoroughly examined. It is said to have a bezel-less design, OLED display, wireless charging, some sort of augmented reality features, and an iPhone 7S model which would not be properly stepped up.

According to business insider, the new iPhone 8 might not be out until the early months of 2018. Now the reason cited for this is - as a result of technical issues that will be attended to.

There are speculations that the company is only interested in releasing the iPhone 7S and 7S plus later this year. And now we know that manufacturing problems are majorly the cause of the delay.

Phones / Oops! Apple Iphone Sales Drop by KCode: 1:05pm On May 05, 2017
The iPhone is Apple's most important product. And the company is very much concerned about the performance of this product. Apparently, Apple sold fewer iPhones than a year ago (1st quarter results). Which was 50.8 million iPhones in that time, down 1 percent from last year.

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, cites a blame. Of course you'd expect share prices to fall; though revenue rose. The CEO made a point, and it was that: other services had a hand in the iPhone sales, as customers tried them out.

Despite the fall & difference from last year's; there is still a gain, because of how expensive the last iPhones have been - especially the iPhone 7 plus.

This is the year of the iPhone's 10th anniversary; and already, there is an excitement for the next release. The next iPhone is expected to be greatly improved; as this is the desire of investors to hope for more value in Apple.

Apple stated that quarterly profits were $11bn worldwide, up 4.9 percent from the same period in 2016. The company also announced it would return an extra $50bn to shareholders.
