Science/Technology / Artificial Intelligence : There Are Pros, There Are Cons by KCode: 6:23pm On Apr 15, 2017 |
BENEFITS OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE Summarised in this quote : "Everything we love about civilization is a product of intelligence, so amplifying our human intelligence with artificial intelligence has the potential of helping civilization flourish like never before – as long as we manage to keep the technology beneficial." - Max Tegmark, President of the Future of Life Institute WHAT IS AI? According to futureoflife.org - Artificial intelligence today is properly known as narrow AI (or weak AI), in that it is designed to perform a narrow task (e.g. only facial recognition or only internet searches or only driving a car). However, the long-term goal of many researchers is to create general AI (AGI or strong AI). While narrow AI may outperform humans at whatever its specific task is, like playing chess or solving equations, AGI would outperform humans at nearly every cognitive task. HOW CAN AI BE DANGEROUS? Firstly, it can be programmed into some autonomous weapons to kill. Secondly, the AI is aimed at doing something beneficial but along the line it may fulfill some destructive purpose. In an attempt to be accurate, it may tend to go way overboard and disobey rules. MOVING ON Stephen Hawking, Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, Bill Gates, and many other big names in science and technology have recently expressed concern in the media and via open letters about the risks posed by AI, joined by many leading AI researchers. But despite the concern, there is still a massive future for AI in decades to come. Source: http://www.informationfromjay..com.ng/2017/04/artificial-intelligence-there-are-pros.html1 |
Phones / Re: Is Camera Quality A Reason You Bought Your Phone? by KCode: 1:40pm On Mar 28, 2017 |
It's good to have to have a nice camera on a phone. But phone manufacturers won't give you everything, especially if it's not a high-end phone. If you can cope with the downside in other aspects of the specs, no problem! |

Bigger is better. Big phones often come with huge specs. But the downside is - it's expensive! |

Science/Technology / Google Is Emerging From A Mobile First To An A.I First World by KCode: 2:11pm On Oct 31, 2016 |
"When I look at where computing is headed - it is clear to me that we're evolving from a mobile-first to an A.I-first (Artificial Intelligence) World." - Sundar Pichai, Google CEO What does this really mean? Google in itself with its new Personal Assistant is working on ways to explore Artificial Intelligence, allowing it (the Personal Assistant) assist you in your every day life. A World in which we will communicate and interact with devices (mainly) through voice and text, like We'd talk to a Friend. Phones / Sandisk Introduces The 'world's First' 1TB SD Card by KCode: 4:36pm On Sep 20, 2016 |
Today, SanDisk unveiled a 1TB SD card, which is actually the world's largest yet. Already, the company is enticing customers with the card's ability to handle 4K, 8K, VR and 360-degree video pretty well when it's officially made available. This 1TB SD card is designed more for video and photo professionals than for the average consumer. 2 years ago, SanDisk released a 512GB SD card which was pretty expensive, I guess this one (1TB) will too (for now). Note: This 1TB SD card is still a prototype, and is in the works. |
Phones / Re: Lack Of Headphone Jack Expected For Upcoming Android Phones by KCode: 8:52am On Sep 14, 2016 |
To compete with Apple, rivals may also eliminate the audio jack to make room for faster processors, better batteries and more durable parts. (A little-known fact: Lenovo beat Apple to removing the audio jack in its new smartphone, Moto Z, released this year.) - [NY Times] |

Phones / Lack Of Headphone Jack Expected For Upcoming Android Phones by KCode: 2:31pm On Sep 12, 2016 |
Android OEMs will very soon follow Apple's example of terminating the headphone jack on smartphones. We all can imagine the way of life without a headphone jack. That 3.5mm hole below or above your phone for audio support. Can be really frustrating right? But is it a step in the right direction? It probably should be. What Apple is doing is simply pioneering the future once again, and trust me - they're pretty good at it. They were responsible for taking off the floppy disk drive from Computers (the iMac). And their goal this time is a wireless future. Do you think you can live with that? No headphone jack anymore on your new phone (eventually coming to Android). Yeah! Why not? It's the future. I have a good feeling about this. I don't want headphone cables getting in my way. Will definitely stick to Bluetooth. Lightning headphones can also work. Using an Adapter is also an option. We hope to see more future technology on headphones / earbuds. In essence - "Progress requires change; if the business never changes, it will never progress." 1 Like |

Phones / Re: Project Ara Cancelled! by KCode: 11:40am On Sep 06, 2016 |
Modular phones are still under development. POINT OF CORRECTION : If it's modular, then all of the parts can be replaced. But if it's semi-modular, then some of the parts can be replaced. And if it's non-modular, none of the parts can be replaced. |

GogetterMD:That's not modular, it's semi-modular. |
Phones / Project Ara Cancelled! by KCode: 9:42am On Sep 06, 2016 |
Project Ara was a modular smartphone scheme handled by Google. For simplicity, the term 'modular' means: having parts that can be connected or combined in different ways. The idea of a modular smartphone where some of the parts can be replaced was somewhat promising. But as of now, the project has been terminated (since Sep 2)- owing to cost and economic value to start with (on the high side). And it also had some flaws in engineering and more. Replaceable features include : processors, displays, batteries, and cameras, as well as modules providing more specialized components, and "frames" that these modules were to be attached to. Google eventually narrowed it down to the camera, the battery and stuff. My belief is - though Project Ara failed, something like this can still be achievable in the future. |

Phones / Infinix Hot 2 Vs The Tecno L5 Comparison (after The Buzz) by KCode: 12:23pm On Aug 29, 2016 |
On black Friday I was kinda let down as I was unable to get a good deal out of the Hot 2 last year. But that weared off when the Tecno L5 was released. I viewed the specs and was wowed by the monstrous battery capacity. I knew this was for me. That aside, after the buzz, I decided to make a quick comparison. Without much ado, here we go... On performance - The Infinix Hot 2 comes in 2 options : 1GB and 2GB of RAM, whereas the Tecno L5 maintains 1GB of RAM. Infinix really has the edge here, though both phones have a CPU of 4 cores, which even gets better with the 2GB RAM for the Hot 2. Design wise / hardware - If you've seen the L5, you'll know that it does stand out with its look, rounded corners and the beauty of its edges makes it pleasant to look at. The only let down here is that it feels a bit heavy ; which is quite understood because of the large battery. The Hot 2 is lighter. For those who like a one handed operation. The Tecno L5 will suite you well. It's handy. To the screen - Though the Hot 2 is 720p, I still prefer the L5's display. It's bright and colorful. Good to look at. From the Camera perspective - The back and front Cameras of the Hot 2 gets a upper hand as they capture high quality images with ease. This is where Infinix really wins. On the software side - With Android One in place, along side occasional system and software updates, the Infinix Hot 2 wins on this part, making it flexible. Battery capacity - The Tecno L5 beats the Hot 2 hands down on the battery side of things with a 5000mAh, leaving the Hot 2 to its 2200mAh capacity. Verdict : These two phones have different little things which make them unique. To pick one of these up will depend on your needs and what you're willing to sacrifice. This is only a comparison : at the end of the day, there's no clear winner.

Android 7.0 Nougat expected release, August 22. By the time of its release, it's heading straight to the last year's Nexus devices (the 5X and 6P). A Canadian Operator called Telus which was accurate with the launch date for last year's Marshmallow update on Nexus devices has now speculated the date as August 22, next week Monday in its latest software update schedule. If everything goes as anticipated, we should see an announcement from Google next Monday. Source : http://www.informationfromjay..co.ke/2016/08/android-70-nougat-expected-release.html?m=1 |
