hi I think I m a mesomorph with a more developed lower body compared to my upper body, so I stopped doing squats and focused o pushups. Now I can comfortably do a hundred pushups at a go, but things seemed to have gotten stale.
Gaining weight seems a bad idea because of the tendency to accumulate fat more in the lower body.
I ve not tried weightlifting yet.
Any advice for me?

hey man, those are truly impressive results. It is normal for the body to reach a stage in growth where the same exercise will get stale. this is known as a plateau. What to do next really depends on your goal: are you interested in size, strength or shape?

the generic advise i'd give you when you hit a plateau is:

1. mix up your training. instead of focusing on push ups alone, mix your routine up with other exercises such as pull ups and weight lifting. your muscles have gotten used to the dynamics of push ups, and are now able to cope with the stress. (your body thinks its helping you by doing this). simply switch to another similar exercise. if you want to keep working on your chest and triceps, i'd suggest you do triceps dips. They'll work almost the same areas as push-ups but without working the core (abdominal muscles) as much.

2. increase difficulty levels. have you tried one handed push ups? how about incline or decline push ups? a great way to improve power, stamina and strength is by doing plyometric push-ups. you perform them like normal push-ups but the difference is when you push up from the ground you lift your body in the air and clap your hands and return to the plank position.

2. do isolation training. push ups are a compound exercise that work multiple muscles and joints all at once. if you're looking for growth, i'd suggest you try isolation exercises that focus specifically on single muscle groups as these exercises are great for achieving growth in specific areas.

3. nutrition. do you know that you might be wasting hours of exercise if you are not taking in a matching amount of protein? your muscles need protein to grow, so if you like work out from morning to evening; if you don't take in enough protein, you're OYO. fortunately, protein is everywhere. from akara, moi moi, eggs, milk, to peanuts and peanut butter, cheap, high quality protein sources are available in abundance.

4. take a break. surprisingly, taking a week off training is not the muscle growth killer most people think it will be, especially when you have been training for an extended period. when you take a 7-10 days off, your body will have lost some of it's familiarity with push-ups (without losing its capacity to do push-ups) and this will create room for more growth

5. i think you should mix in some cardio. go for a run, play a sport like football or basketball, just to keep your body in all round shape.

sorry bout the late reply btw. just seeing this

don't get me wrong am not in support of excessive beating but am totally against the act of condemning people online without first trying to have a good understanding of what the child did for heaven sakes that. Child might have stolen a huge amount of cash after several talks and counselling to make him desists from such now one I'd iot just saw the marks and post it online without bothering to state the childs offense! Am sorry but I don't just get off rolling on my emotions.

You are indeed responding emotionally, just in the defensive. What is required of you in this case, given that you have no more information about the case than the next man, is to objectively respond to the condition of that child. Does that picture look good to you? If no, then you agree that the beating has been done in excess, which is the whole point. No need speculating as to what the child may or may not have done. Please note also that these beatings have been a repeated occurrence.

you are doing alright but truth be told 5 weeks is a lot of time to achieve the results you have gained. I understadn you are an ectomorph and as such it's going to take you a lot of effort to bulk up but here's what i think you should be doing better:

Focus a bit more on your triceps and shoulders. you look like you have been lifting weights or doing pull ups, and it shows in your biceps but the biceps are a really small muscle naturally so you will have limited gains. Instead, i think you should focus on doing a lot more push ups to target your chest and triceps which are much bigger muscles naturally. This will give you the look of being buff

What's there abeg OP should shift go toilet. What did the boy do I have witnessed worse. Some of us were prevented from becoming armed robbers by beatings like this. All the whiteman wannabes with serious value problems.

that level of beating is way too much. this is another route to hardening him if he is truly misbehaving.

true training comes from spending time with a child to talk to them and explain and make sure they understand what the right thing to do is, and why it is right.

with all the beating we have been beating children in this country has that stopped Nigeria from becoming renowned for internet fraud, drug peddling, and prostitution in European countries? What of the flagrant practice of corruption? Armed robbery and kidnapping? Drug abuse by the youth?

Beating alone cannot solve all disciplinary problems, and excessive beatings such as this have lead to death in several cases. sometimes we need to understand the essence of MODERATION.

if na so Baba God dey wire us anytime we misbehave... i wonder wer you and i go be today.

the militants are lazy criminals that hijacked the control of the south-south....

That is still the fault of the FG. They gave those people money, not to develop the area, but to secure peace and the flow of oil. Until genuine development efforts take place, the masses of the Niger Delta will continue to support militancy, whether or not the upper echelon of the militant groups are self serving or not.

Militants blow up pipelines and now Money that could go towards development goes towards security. Militants get angry at the lack of development and start blowing things up. See the endless cycle?

i know you think you sound smart but have you asked yourself which ofblowing up pipelines and spending development money is the chicken and the egg?

1. This cycle of yours would not have started if there were adequate development efforts, and

2. it could be stopped quite simply, if the FG would, in response to the blowing up of pipelines (which is a legitimate form of civil disobedience), resist the urge to respond with violence, and channel the funds for weapons into the development they were meant to do in the first place.

NB: If any ipobian quote I'll not discuss their freedom to have a dream nation with buhari again. cheesy

so with all that the NDA has done, you mean to tell me they have not already dared the govt?

a people standing and ready to die for a just cause are a force mighty in itself

and i can't see why you would compare Nnamdi Kanu, someone who was running a radio station in London, with armed, angry street boys who have been at this for years.

LOL.

This Nairaland is one weird place. People would come here to masage their over-inflated larger than life egos. Whereas in reality, there ain't just anything to show for it.

What's the point? I'm saying it because of the state of the tuke tuke that somebody said he's being fined for.

You'll see one very vocal NL username and develop a mental picture of the individual behind the username. At the end of the day it'll be a totally different thing entirely. There is Godi o!

Dude be creating an NL thread because of a VIO fine. You never chi chum chin.

Reminds me of something that happened Wednesday. I was to call 3 applicants in order to set up their interviews. First call went well, an appointment was fixed. The second call however was a totally different story. I'd only just introduced myself when the guy began to rant (in Igbo) that I was disturbing him and that he couldn't hear what I was saying and then hung up on me. Also refused to take my calls after I dialled him severally. Tell me, is that dude ever to be taken seriously in life?

i'm still trying to understand the relevance of this paragraph to the point you were making (which is to me, both a valid and invalid point). The beauty of a place like nairaland is that for once, all men can be equal and the world can judge you based on the content of your character and not your social status or other ephemeral things.

if you want to speak only with people of your own perceived class then you should know where to go.

How can one be so callous?? Can a gun be inserted into his anus and fired in there? That will be a good punishment.

In this case that is still mild. in short he needs to be boiled alive in boiling oil

1. engage in sufficient pre-intimacy, that would heighten your stimulation prior to entry and reduce the amount of time needed for you to get going
2. get him to wear a condom. it reduces the level of stimulation
3. ask him to focus his mind on something very sad during the act (this works)

To answer your question, Nigeria is that bad and is even worse than you think. I applied for National ID card in October 2014. Up till now, it is not yet ready. They keep saying I should check one useless website, which, in my opinion, has been programmed to say it's not yet ready.

One of my colleagues, who claims to be a realist, says that using money to get what you want is the fastest way. Meet one top officer, explain your plight and watch your passport appear in one week!

All governments and I mean all, negotiate with terrorists at one point or the other as deemed fit, after proper evaluation, except maybe in movies they don't.

Thousands have been kidnapped by BH; not only the Chibok girls, they (CG) are just the ace. Now, those kidnappings weren't spurn off previous negotiations.

You should know that within military circles, governments are reviled for such negotiations. Look, a government may at some point or another negotiate with terrorists in order to score political points but i'm talking principles not politics. The moment you reinforce the terrorist's belief that it is profitable to kidnap people, get ready to continue to continue to accede to their demands because they are only going to kidnap more and more people, particularly in a country like Nigeria where it is quite difficult to prevent terrorist attacks.

Not good enough reason.

The really sad precedence is, allowing BH take people captives at will, thank God that has been curbed lately.
You use what you have to get what you need especially when lives are at stake.

You release the Prisoners, and might as well track and eliminate them tomorrow if we're smart.

Those traumatized girls for some BH prisoners, why not?

Every country trade prisoners all the time. The US does all the time. Even traded controversial Cpl. Bowe for 5 Taliban big shots.

These girls are our collective embarrassment. if Buhari's or Jonathan's daughters were among, we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

Have I mentioned the psychological angle you play with on the to be released prisoners, or the Intel the released girls can provide, which might actually be BH's downfall?

You do not negotiate with terrorists for one simple reason: you conduct an exchange with them today, and tomorrow they'll go out and kidnap more people and make further demands.

This gives her more experience and improves her rankings. Which means in the next Olympics, she will qualify for Rowing much easier. She only qualified this year because the IOC is trying to give as many spots as possible to athletes from less successful countries. In every event, after the top seeded athletes qualify, next is good performers. Followed by the host country and some less performing nations.
It's like how our Football ranking fluctuates depending on if we do well in Africa. Stronger teams are put beside weaker teams so they "thin the herd", though surprises happen. Which is why we don't get easy group matches[/s]
