Politics / Timi Frank Condemns Coup D’etat In Guinea by kidap: 10:38am On Sep 06, 2021 |
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, condemned a military coup in Guinea, even as he called on the people to remain calm. Frank in a statement in Abuja urged the Guinean military to immediately restore constitutional order. He enjoined them either swear-in the candidate who came second in the Guinean presidential election in October 2020 as the as President or conduct a fresh elections within three to six months to enable the people freely determine who should rule them through the ballot. The Bayelsa-born political activist who was recently named Ambassador to East Africa and Middle East, by the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP), said while he can never support a military coup anywhere in the world, it is almost glaring that the anti-democratic and sit-tight tendencies of some African leaders has led to a resurgence in coup d’etat in several countries in the continent. He berated leaders of the African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of West African States for aiding some heads of national governments to trample on the rights of their people and to disregard the rule of law and democracy. “For example, when President Alpha Conde fraudulently orchestrated an amendment to the Constitution of Guinea to enable him have a third term in office, AU and ECOWAS leaders supported him because he was one of their own. “I dare say that the change in the constitution to enable Conde to rule interminably is a direct function of the present army insurrection in that country. “I also want to say that why coups are no longer desirable, any African leader that refuses to stick to the Constitution or allow members of the opposition a breathing space will henceforth have the nation’s military to contend with,” Frank said. He reminded AU leaders of what earlier happened in Mali that led to a military take over of that country following a maneuver by the former President to fraudulently elongate his tenure through constitutional amendment. “For example, what moral right has General Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian Government to condemn the coup in Guinean when the poverty, insecurity and corruption under the present administration in Nigeria is worse than the situation in Guinea? “What did they say when Alpha Condé, through his puppets in the Guinean parliament, changed the Constitution to allow him a third term in office?” he asked. According to him, the Guinean military have proven that unlike the Nigerian military, they are loyal to the people rather than the President as they cited corruption, poverty and insecurity among other things as their basis for the take over. “As a democrat, I don’t support coups but if it is the only way to remove corrupt, clueless, inept, wicked and anti-democratic African leaders from government, so be it,” he said. He warned that Ivory Coast may experience a similar fate since the incumbent President had fraudulently amended the country’s Constitution to extend his stay in office. He insisted that African leaders who fail to respect the democratic rights of their citizens to elect leaders of their choice through the ballot would continue to face coup de’tat. “While it can be argued that a coup d’etat in Guinea has violated ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance, those making that argument should know that a surreptitious change in a country’s constitution to give the incumbent President a third term in office is the worst form of violation,” he said. He called on the Guinean military to respect the fundamental human rights of citizens as they work assiduously to return the country to democratic rule. He called on African leaders to shun corruption, provide security, fight poverty, and keep to their terms of office and democratic tenets in order not to give the military any reason to attempt to usurp power. Bayelsa-born activist and former spokesperson of Nigeria’s ruling party, APC, Timi Frank has yet again called out Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling APC over what he referred to as celebration of looters. “We saw how the minister for Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio, has been dishing out contracts and everything to himself. “Till today nobody is questioning him. This is the only Government that celebrates looters,” he said. He noted that the more anybody in Buhari’s Government is called a thief, the more Buhari and the APC keeps rewarding the person. Politics / Timi Frank Urges Niger Delta Leaders To Shun Meeting With Akpabio by kidap: 5:51pm On Jun 02, 2021 |
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, on Wednesday, called on leaders of the Ijaw Youth Congress (IYC) and all Niger Delta stakeholders to shun an emergency meeting being called by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, on Friday in Abuja. He urged them to avoid any such meetings until the ultimatum given by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo) for the reconstitution of a substantive board for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is complied with by the Federal Government. Frank, in a statement in Abuja, warned that the meeting summoned by Akpabio in Abuja is not in the good interest of the region. He wondered why Akpabio, as minister of Niger Delta Affairs, should summon Ijaw leaders in particular and Niger Delta leaders in general to meet him in the Federal Capital Territory under the purview of another minister instead of holding such a parley in any of the Niger Delta states. He insisted that the proposed meeting in Abuja was an insult on the people of Niger Delta, “particularly our father, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark and members of the IYC and INC.” The Bayelsa-born political activist added: “The purported meeting with our people in Abuja by Akpabio is a deliberate ploy to undermine and deceive the Ijaws and Niger Delta people as well as the Federal Government over his selfish and sinister agenda. “The action of Akpabio is based on his plans to divert Nigerians’ attention from the ultimatum handed down by Tompolo where he called for the urgent reconstitution of a substantive board for the NDDC. “The insincerity of Akpabio is responsible for his call on Niger Delta leaders to meet him in Abuja. Why did he fail to call this type of meeting before now, if truly, he is sincere and his purpose altruistic? “If any such meeting is to be convened at all, it has be held in any of the Niger Delta states. Akpabio cannot be sitting comfortably in Abuja and summon our elders and leaders like mere errand boys. “The proposed meeting is an insult. If the purpose is genuine, he should have called for the meeting in any of the Niger Delta states. “I therefore call on the INC and the IYC, including all Niger Delta stakeholders to shun the call for a meeting by Akpabio. Whoever attends this meeting will be doing against the interests and aspirations of the peoples of the Niger Delta. “I am using this opportunity to call on the Federal Government to respect the ultimatum given by Tompolo as nothing will change the positions of Chief Clark, Niger Delta governors and other stakeholders who have demanded the sack of the illegal sole administrator of the NDDC and the immediate reconstitution of the board of the agency.” He advised the presidency not to accept any position paper from Akpabio which he intends to use to cover the illegalities he has so far perpetrated in the NDDC and the region. “We therefore, insist and stand by the demands of High Chief Government Ekpemupolo as stated in his ultimatum concerning the reconstitution of the NDDC Board. “In the same vein, warn that all genuine and concerned sons and daughters of the Niger Delta region must ignore invitations already extended by Akpabio for a meeting with Niger Delta leaders on Friday in Abuja as he did not consult the governors of the region or Chief EK Clark, who is the father of the region. “Akpabio only invited those on his payroll to the kangaroo meeting. Anybody who attends the meeting as called by Akpabio would be counted as one of the enemies of the good people of the Niger Delta region”, he said. Politics / NDDC: Timi Frank Urges Buhari To Respect Tompolo’s Ultimatum by kidap: 10:29am On Jun 01, 2021 |
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, on Tuesday, advised the President, General Muhammadu Buhari, to heed the ultimatum handed down by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo, on the immediate reconstitution of the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Tompolo had on Sunday issued a seven-day ultimatum to Buhari and Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, to reconstitute the NDDC board or face a major breakdown of law and order in the Niger Delta. Frank in a statement in Abuja, enjoined Buhari to urgently address issues raised by the former Niger Delta warlord. He described Tompolo as a well respected leader in the region who “hardly speaks but, when he does, keeps his words.” Frank said his plea was in the best interest of the country that will be the biggest loser, should Buhari fail to act on the demands of Tompolo and other prominent youth leaders and elders in the region. According the former chieftain of the APC, “High Chief Tompolo is not one of those Niger Delta leaders to be ignored. He hardly speaks but whenever he does, he is known to keep to his words. “So, we advise the Federal Government to address the issues raised with all the urgency it deserves to avoid dire consequences.” He called on the President, General Buhari to immediately sack Godswill Akpabio as the Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs. He insisted that Akpabio’s stint as Minister has brought only pains to the people of the region. “Therefore, General Buhari should immediately sack the current Sole Administrator of the NDDC and appoint a substantive Board that will genuinely represent the people of the Niger Delta. “The sack of Akpabio and the inauguration of a substantive board that will bring peace to the region has become imperative,” he said. He added that before now, the Niger Delta Governors had demanded for a new NDDC Board and these calls have been supported by youth leaders, elders and all other stakeholders. Frank said: “The only person that has opposed the reconstitution of the board is Akpabio, who is running a one man show and has turned the NDDC to his personal tank farm, reason, he is against the reconstitution of a new NDDC board. “We are not just calling for his immediate sack, Akpabio should not to hide under the forensic audit as the new board will not stop the forensic audit. “Akpabio is taking advantage of the poverty and hunger in the region to gather and induce leaders and youths to support his gross illegalities at the NDDC. “We are well aware that since Tompolo made that statement, Akpabio has been making overtures towards him but we also know that Tompolo will not allow that to happen in the best interest and wellbeing of the people. “We know him too well and also believe in his capabilities and capacity as a respected and highly recognized leader of the Ijaw nation and the people of the Niger Delta at large. “Our father and leader, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark and the governors of the region, including youth leaders have all lend their voices to the call for the reconstitution of the NDDC Board. “This is why the federal government must, as a matter of urgency, listen to Tompolo as he is a man of his words, whenever he speaks. “We have confidence in you, Tompolo. Don’t let us down in this ultimatum like other leaders that spoke in the past without action. “People are looking forward to you because they believe in your leadership. Don’t backdown or withdraw. “If the government fails to act after the ultimatum, back your words with necessary action.” Source: https://ngg.ng/nddc-timi-frank-urges-buhari-to-respect-tompolos-ultimatum/ Lalasticlala OAM4J, Mynd44

Politics / Timi Frank Blasts Malami Over Comment On Atiku by kidap: 10:35am On Apr 07, 2021 |
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has lampooned the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, over his uninformed comment on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Frank, in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, described Malami as a comedian among other comedians running the country aground with bad governance. He however urged the Attorney-General to focus on more crucial issues bedevelling the country rather than taking Atiku to court over baseless claims of not being a full-blooded Nigerian. Frank said: “Atiku Abubakar is a true Nigerian who has sacrificed a lot to stabilise Nigeria's democracy and economy. “It is only a comedian that can, therefore, come out to say that Atiku is not a true Nigerian. "It is both disgraceful and unpatriotic for the likes of Malami to be making such unguarded and divisive comments at this time of our country's existence. “It is these kind of divisive comments that fuel various secessionist agitations in this country today. "Today, Nigeria has become the world poverty capital. Corruption has become almost enthroned in this country and Malami is the attorney general and a minister in the most corrupt government ever witnessed in this country and the world. "Malami and some other jokers in government have turned this country into a joke with their comedy. "Otherwise, how can Malami say Atiku is not a true Nigerian? A man who contested the governorship of Adamawa state and won and later became the Vice President of Nigeria for eight years has suddenly become a foreigner in Nigeria? “How can a man who served this country as a Customs’ Officer and has many establishments that contribute immensely to the development of this country suddenly not become a true Nigerian? “Is this how everything has become a joke to Malami and other comedians running the present administration? "This is how just few years before the United States of America’s election, former President Donald Trump, brought up baseless claims against the current U.S. President, Joe Biden. “This politics of holding to straws in a failed attempt to dent the image of patriotic and respected Nigerian like Atiku is reprehensible. "If a man like Atiku, who has sacrificed so much by contributing to the development of Nigeria and stabilizing the country's economy and democracy through numerous job creation, quality leadership and uniting the country is not a true Nigerian in Malami's myopic thinking, then let Malami tell us what he, as the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice has contributed to this country after benefitting so much from Nigeria. "In fact, I believe that Malami and other comedians in government running this country aground should really visit the psychiatric home. "Let Malami stop making Nigeria the laughing stock in the comity of nations by such baseless comments. “Nigeria has had enough of this ridicule and we say, enough is enough! We can't be dragged to the mud any longer. "It is undoubtedly clear that should Atiku choose to run for 2023 presidential election and wins, he would clean up the mess created in this country by this rudderless and inept government and Malami, who is aware of this, is simply scared of being held to account for his contribution to this bad governance. Politics / Benedict Peters, A True Nigerian Export by kidap: 8:17am On Dec 09, 2020 |
In a season when some Nigerians are being demonised across the world as agents of crime and criminalities, we cannot but raise our glasses to salute the likes of Adewale Adeyemo, Joe Biden appointee as Deputy Treasury Secretary; Dr. Onyema Ogbuagu, the Nigerian-American medic who was one of the brains behind the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine. Or Benedict Peters, a Nigerian entrepreneur making waves in Africa and across the world as one who has built an enterprise from the scratch to a billion-dollar multinational. Remember Kehinde Wiley? He’s a portrait painter of Black people who masterfully painted his way to the White House. He was commissioned in 2017 to paint a portrait of former President Barack Obama for the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery which showcases portraits of all the US presidents. Wiley is the first black artist to paint official portraits of any US president for the National Portrait Gallery. The list is long. But we must say hello to Dr. Olurotimi John Badero who earned his medical degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State before relocating to the United States where he became a specialist and interventional cardiologist, nephrologist and cardio-nephrologist, ranking as the world’s first and only fully trained cardio-nephrologist. There are many more Nigerians doing exploits across the globe but the name Benedict Peters strikes a resonance with what portends the greatness of Nigeria. While others excelled as Nigerians in the White man’s land, Peters is excelling at home and successfully exporting his magical entrepreneurship skills from Nigeria to the rest of the world. He answers the question: can anything good come out of Nigeria? Yes, many good things have come out of Nigeria, wafting across several seas and mountains to add impactful fragrance to a world in need of heroes. Peters is one of them. He represents a true Nigerian export. He symbolises the Nigerian spirit of derring-do, chutzpah and unvarnished excellence. Last month, his company, Bravura Holdings Ltd., made history when it successfully entered into the competitive, capital-intensive and technology-driven platinum mining marketplace of Zimbabwe. To make good this feat, it shelled out the sum of $1 billion to engage in an industry once dominated by expatriates from Europe, the Americas and Asia. The beauty of this venture is that Peters, being a genuine pan-Africanist, would be fair to Zimbabweans and other Africans who would be directly or indirectly linked to his enterprise. Peters would be stamping his big foot on a swathe measuring about 3,000 hectares (7,413-acre) of land in the Selous area, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of Zimbabwe’s capital Harare where it plans to dig the mine. Reports said his choice of operational base is close to existing platinum mines. Having already won the concession, a lot of activities are projected to happen in the next 18 months, explains Lionel Mhlanga, Bravura’s manager in Zimbabwe. “From where we are now, we will go to resource definition, after that we will go to resource modeling, after mine development and then mine construction. Those are all things that should happen in the next 18 months,” an obviously elated Mhlanga told the media during a tour of the site last month. The United States Geological Survey lists Zimbabwe as the third largest producer of platinum, only next to Russia and South Africa. Currently, the Russian-Zimbabwean platinum venture, Great Dyke Investments (GDI), a joint venture (50% parity owned by Russia’s Vi Holding and Zimbabwean investors) is reputedly the biggest platinum mining project in the country with a $2 billion investment outlay. But the Bravura Holding venture represents the new African push for continental integration both in trade and production. In Nigeria where Peters’ Aiteo Eastern E & P Company is the biggest domestic oil producer, the billionaire oil and gas magnate has demonstrably deployed his wealth to foster development, engender socio-economic growth and improve the nation’s human development index. From philanthropy to community development and sports sponsorship, Peters’ Aiteo has endeared itself to the hearts of the Nigerian people. Since 2017, when it took over the sponsorship of Nigeria’s longest surviving club football league – The Challenge Cup – now aptly called Aiteo Cup, life has returned to the colourful multi-tier football fiesta, postponed this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is a pointer to the good times that await Zimbabweans with the admission of Bravura Holding into the exclusive club of platinum and other minerals miners in the country, a club dominated by Russian and Cypriot companies. Media reports say Bravura is already looking beyond platinum. Zimbabwe is endowed with treasures in her sub-soil and Peters’ company intends to explore mining lithium, rare earth minerals and tin in Zimbabwe. Beyond that, it’s also seeking to mine cobalt in the Democratic Republic of Congo, copper in Zambia, gold in Ghana and iron ore in Guinea, with eyes on exploring mining opportunities in Namibia and Botswana. Quite a handful! It’s a case of Africa taking back Africa. For far too long, Africa has left her richly endowed earth at the mercy of the western world. Nigeria has rich reserves of oil and gas which she yielded to western merchants and exploiters. It was not until Nigeria switched to the next gear in the promotion of local content in the sector that she started the journey of maximizing the benefits of having huge reserves of crude oil and gas. Though, so much still remains to be done in the aspect of processing and minding the entire value chain, but the entry of the likes of Aiteo into Exploration and Production (E&P) has kindled hope that someday the owners of the resources would effectively process their resources and have full value of them. Having made a success of his presence in the Nigerian oil and gas sector, Peters’ foray into Zimbabwe mining sector and plausibly into the mining sectors of other African nations is a priceless public relations stunt for Nigeria. It’s a salute to the industry and illustriousness of Nigerians. When some sections of the global community rise to tar us in evil and despicable coatings, we trot out the likes of Peters and others who by dint of hard work, academic excellence and entrepreneurial acuity have put Nigeria and Nigerians on the global map of achievers, outliers and role models. Politics / Looting: Timi Frank Urges EFCC, ICPC To Probe Governors, Agencies by kidap: 4:55pm On Oct 25, 2020 |
...Demands distribution of COVID-19 donations to Nigerians Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, on Sunday, urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) to probe and prosecute Governors and Government agencies hoarding COVID-19 palliatives meant for Nigerians. He also called on the President, General Muhammadu Buhari to urgently share all the money donated to the Federal Government as COVID-19 support to poor and vulnerable persons in the country. Frank who made these assertions in a statement in Abuja said that both the Federal and state governments should be blamed for deliberately keeping away what rightly belong to the people. He said that videos on social media showing thousands of Nigerians besieging government warehouses and forcefully helping themselves with such food items underscore the level of hunger and deprivation in the land. He warned Governors and Federal Government agencies who still have such food items locked up in their warehouses to immediately release them for distribution to the hungry masses or face the wrath of the people. Frank said: “Why should Government continue to warehouse food items donated to it while the people are hungry? Did they forget the saying that a hungry man is an angry man? “The action of government in keeping food items meant to cushion the effects of the ongoing pandemic among the poor and vulnerable, I dare say, speaks of their callousness, insensitivity, wickedness and man’s inhumanity to man. “Government should not forget that most Nigerians lost their jobs and other sources of livelihood as a result of the pandemic. “Must they be reminded that Nigerians are dying silently under the yoke of bad government policies, corruption and the greed of those that are today in position of authority? “Where they by any chance keeping the food items for the 2023 campaigns as some state governors did in the past with relief materials meant for flood victims? “We demand that all monies received by the Federal Government as support from international agencies, local businesses and philanthropists should immediately be distributed among vulnerable Nigerians who need to survive the current hardship in the country. “Again, it must be noted that the sheer multitude of persons seen around government warehouses in the past few days show that the Buhari’s administration has driven over 100 million Nigerians into poverty rather than fulfilling its mantra of taking 100 million Nigerians out of poverty. I also urge on the President to immediately and urgently setup a presidential panel of enquiry to probe the governors and the federal government agencies responsible for this heinous and careless act and anyone found culpable must face the full wrath of the law unlike previous lip service enquiry reports that were swept under the carpet. “We call on the Federal and State Governments to retrace their egotistical steps and embrace policies that would give the youths jobs and put bread on their table. Anything short of urgent measures to pacify the youths and address the growing hunger in the land would amount to another disaster waiting to happen. God forbid.” END Signed: Comrade Timi Frank Political Activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC)

Politics / #Endsars: Don't Be Intimidated, Timi Frank Urges Protesters by kidap: 2:23pm On Oct 15, 2020 |
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has called on youths protesting against the atrocities of the recently dissolved Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria police not to be intimidated. The EndSARS protests have continued to spread through some major state capitals and cities in the country. Frank made the call through a series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle on Thursday. He urged the protesting youths not to back down, amid intimidation coming from security agencies and some top officials of the Major General Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. The political activist and commentator, also expressed disappointment at Buhari and the APC governors for unleashing thugs and hoodlums on peaceful protesters. He advised all protesters not to be cowed by the oppressive antics of security agents and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Security Committee which has purportedly banned street protests in Abuja. He called on the protesters to continue to remain peaceful as they await the implementation of their demands which have been accepted by the Federal Government. Frank’s tweets read: “Dear Protesters, what ever you have as a source of defense take it along with you while protesting as the government that is meant to provide security for peaceful protests are the ones now violating the law, by arming hoodlums to disrupt our efforts in fighting the wrongs in our nation. “Although, we are not surprised because Gen. Buhari is known for always commiting crimes against humanity. “This is not the first time the APC is attempting to halt peaceful protests against their bad leadership under the guise of maintaining law and order. “But he should also have it in mind that Nigerians are not backing down in fighting for their rights. And the entire world is watching. “I have never seen any Government in the world that would ban peaceful protests. Banning a peaceful protest is a disrespect to our democracy and constitution. “Buhari and other APC leaders were allowed to protest in 2012/2013 against former President Goodluck Jonathan's Government, so how is this different since the country is not working, and the citizens are not comfortable. “The people of Abuja should ignore that call to stop street protests and continue exercising their rights as citizens of Nigeria. “I call on the international community: US, UK, EU and United Nations to hold President Buhari and all APC Governors across the states of Nigeria accountable for whatever happens to peaceful protesters, as the government of Buhari has come up with a strategy to arm hoodlums to disrupt the ongoing nationwide protests. “The plot is to use the Military to quell the protests. Let the government of the day be aware that we are very much aware of this strategy and the international community is watching as well.” END Comrade Timi Frank Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC https://ngg.ng/endsars-dont-be-intimidated-timi-frank-urges-protesters/ Lalasticlala OAM4J, Mynd44 1 Like
