Politics / Relocating Maritime Varsity ‘ll Cause Unrest, Group Tells Buhari by Kingson56(m): 5:37am On Jul 09, 2016
A group under the aegis of Oil Producing Area Association of Nigeria, OPAAN, yesterday warned against plans to relocate the Maritime University from its present place, Okerenkoko to Ibusa, saying that such would incite the oil communities and the Niger Delta as a region against President Muhammadu Buhari and his government.
The Maritime University site in Okerenkoko
The group also urged the President to caution his aides or lieutenants against making what it described as insensitive statements capable of causing more problems for him especially against the backdrop that he was in search of lasting peace in the troubled region which has not seen peace with the emergence of Niger Delta Avengers.
In a statement signed yesterday by OPAAN’s National Secretary, Chief Chris Obiuwevbi and National Secretary, Dr. Alfred Mulade, the group noted that nowhere in the world where Naval institutions were established far inland.
This is just as it said that Schooling facilities for the children of officers and men were usually co-located or in close proximity and that in these two cases, they were convinced that mischief makers close to the President were using the existing security situation in the country to undermine the genuine intentions of your administration adding, that Peace in the Niger Delta and indeed, Nigeria would be better achieved in the environment of justice and fair play and arising from sound judgement.
Politics / WOW!!! (MUST READ) How Change Has Affected Buhari by Kingson56(m): 5:28am On Jul 09, 2016
By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor
The picture of President Muhammadu Buhari in an Igbo dress at the peak of the presidential election campaign must have conveyed a sense of deep assurance to many in the face of sustained allusions about him as a narrow-minded person. As the candidate traversed the country in the days leading to the election, his message in the North, East, West, and South was the same: he would fight corruption, unemployment, and insecurity. While his message was consistent, Buhari’s dressing changed with every geopolitical zone. Candidate Buhari changed his attire to reflect his audience in a way that gave optimism that he was not (or no longer) the taciturn and unbending gentleman officer that his antagonists were at that time portraying him to be.
Buhari in Igbo attire
To the people of the Niger Delta who were being asked to toss away their son in favour of the more disciplined Fulani man, the picture of Buhari in Ijaw attire almost looking like Goodluck Jonathan would have made some sense. The Buhari campaign also released a picture of the candidate in suit with both long and bow ties in a fitting riposte to those who saw the candidate as an enemy of the West. The message was clear: to the Igbo, Yoruba, and even the Niger Deltan; Buhari was a man to be trusted to protect the interests of Nigerians irrespective of tribe or creed.
In the campaign buses as the members of the Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress, APC traversed the country the message was also the same, a candidate who opened himself to all men and women so long as such a person was a believer in the message. That portrayal was accentuated at the inauguration when the president made the memorable declaration: “I belong to everybody, and I belong to nobody.” Just a year after, many of those who purveyed that message of trust claim to be in shock. That shock is particularly evoked by the appointments made since the advent of the administration, an issue that that has repeatedly been echoed in cyberspace.
The issue was further brought to fore with the constitution of the new board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC in which no one from the entire Southeast Geopolitical Zone was found fitting for appointment into the board, despite having two active oil producing states. Remarkably, no one from the oil-producing region was found fitting for appointment into the board of the nation’s prime revenue earner.
The fears have not been helped by the now widely publicised interview with the northern enfant terrible, Dr. Junaid Mohammed in which shocking allegations of nepotism were echoed. Senator Sola Adeyeye has, however, made a passionate rebuttal of the accusations of domination of the Hausa/Fulani Muslim over the polity with the particular reference of to the super ministers, Babatunde Fashola and Rotimi Amaechi. Even more, some in the South have also punctured the assertions with the claim that the Southerners who held high positions in the past did not benefit their people.
“Stella Oduah and Osita Chidoka were ministers of aviation, but it did not lift Enugu International Airport from being an international disgrace,” one Southern defender of the president told your correspondent.
What is also shocking is the roiling temper among some APC veterans who are increasingly muttering over their exclusion from the change regime. “If you don’t know somebody that knows somebody, there is no way you can be recognised whatever you did in the campaign,” is an assertion that is increasingly flowing from APC veterans from both North and South who held key positions in the campaign. Many of them have continued to rue the nonappointment of Col. Hammed Ali as the president’s Chief of Staff. Ali as Chief of Staff to the candidate was the channel through whom many of the campaigners liaised with.

Politics / How A Catholic-pentecostal Split Could Help Nigeria's Militant Islamists by Kingson56(m): 9:02pm On Jul 08, 2016
United body divides for the first time in 40 years over politics and Islam!!!! WHY!! suffered a blow when the nation's Catholic leaders indefinitely suspended relations with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN)—the first split in the umbrella body's nearly 40 years of existence.
Catholic and Protestant churches formed the association to promote Christian unity and to speak with one voice on national issues. But the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria—the largest of CAN's five blocs—said it was pulling out because of president Ayo Oritsejafor's leadership. Catholic leaders believe the Pentecostal pastor has made CAN too cozy with the government and too confrontational with Muslims (in response to continuing attacks on Christians).
In a letter listing their grievances, Nigeria's bishops alleged that CAN was "being dragged into partisan politics, thereby compromising its ability to play its true role as conscience of the nation and voice of the voiceless." They also alleged that CAN's interfaith mission was "not given a priority attention to promote peace and unity in the nation," but instead CAN was being used as "an army put in place to defend Christians against Muslims."
The bishops will vote on whether to make the withdrawal permanent.
When founded in 1976, CAN comprised only the Catholic Secretariat and the Christian Council of Churches (CCC). It later expanded to include the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, the Evangelical Fellowship of West Africa, and the Organization ..

Politics / MUST READ OHOO!!! Over 1,200 People Die Of Starvation At Nigerian Refugee Camp by Kingson56(m): 8:38pm On Jul 08, 2016
Leading evangelist Rev. Franklin Graham is denying a rumor that he told hundreds of evangelical leaders who met with Donald Trump on Tuesday anything along the lines that the billionaire real estate mogul is a better option for president than presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
Following Trump's "conversation" with over 900 evangelical leaders in New York City, conservative Bishop E.W. Jackson of Virginia, who attended the closed-door meeting, told listeners on a conference call that Graham had implied that Trump provided more "hope" than Clinton. Jackson told The Christian Post in a follow-up interview that Graham did not go as far as to endorse Trump but suggested that Trump is a better alternative.
As Graham is touring all 50 state capitals this year to hold prayer rallies to encourage Christians to get involved in the political process, he has been adamant that he will not be endorsing any presidential candidates.
After reaching out to Graham for comment on Tuesday, he clarified to CP on Wednesday that he did not give a long address to the crowd but simply gave a short prayer. Although he offered about one minute of remarks, they did not include anything along the lines that Trump is preferred over Clinton.
According to a transcript from the event, Graham made no mention of Trump or Clinton.
Additionally, some contention was made over a suggestion that Graham had compared biblical leaders like Moses and David to Trump. However, Graham merely pointed out that the flaws and sins of biblical leaders like Moses, David and Abraham proves that no one is
perfect.

Religion / MUST Read!!!pastor E.adeboye Says Abortion Is Okay If A Doctor Requests It by Kingson56(m): 6:14pm On Jul 06, 2016
The GO of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye, says abortion is ungodly and unbiblical. He made his position known via his Special Assistant on Personnel and Administration, Pastor Johnson Odesola, at the monthly prayer and thanksgiving service organised for pregnant women at the RCCG National Headquarters in Ebutte-Metta, Lagos.
"You can prevent pregnancy but once the egg and the sperm meet and is formed, anything that suggests that it should be terminated is against God’s word. The option of abortion is an option preferred by medical professionals but as Christians, we believe in miracles and that God is able to take away every problems. There is nothing God cannot do even if the life of the woman is at stake; pray for a divine intervention and God who created the universe knows what to do in any situation we find ourselves as we look up to him in faith.” pastor Odesola said on behalf of pastor Adeboye
So wait, if the life of the woman is at stake, she shouldn't abort but pray for divine intervention? I'm totally against abortion, but I also think it's okay to go ahead if you're advised by your doctor to terminate it if your life is at stake. What do you guys think?

Politics / NEWS UPDATE: Group Threatens To Shut Down EFCC Office by Kingson56(m): 5:16pm On Jul 06, 2016
The Middle Belt Renaissance Movement (MBRM), has threatened to occupy the Abuja office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), by Thursday, July 7,over the failure of the commission to commence the prosecution of 52 persons allegedly indicted by the Justice Kpojime Commission of inquiry in Benue state.
Kuanum Terrence, the national coordinator of the group, who addressed reporters in Makurdi said the aim of their action would be to compel the anti-graft agency to commence the prosecution of those indicted by the panel, Vanguard reports.
He said: “We are bothered that after the report of Justice Elizabeth Kpojime Commission of enquiry which indicted former Governor Gabriel Suswam and 51 persons for allegedly looting Benue State treasury was submitted to the EFCC, the matter has been swept under the carpet. We have resolved to occupy the head office of the commission in protest over their inaction and after 72 hours, if they still fail to commence the prosecution of those indicted.”
In reaction, Job Tsegha, the former senior special assistant to former Governor Gabriel Suswam, said the agitation of the MBRM came late as a high court in Makurdi recently quashed the report of the panel.
“I am not sure the MBRM is conversant with the developments in Benue state because the Kpojime report has already been quashed by a Makurdi high court. “The whole thing was a witch-hunt so they should get their facts right,” he said.
The administration of Governor Samuel Ortom on assumption of office last year, established the Justice Kpojime Commission of Inquiry to probe the income and expenditure of his predecessor’s administration between the year 2007 and 2015. ]
The judicial commission of inquiry recommended that 52 individuals and 10 corporate bodies refund over N107 billion to the coffers of the state government.

The DPO was said to have been shot by irate youths from the church, a statement by the state police public relations officer, Mr Andrew Enwerem, said. A Federal High Court in Abuja has sacked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for submitting false information to his party, PDP in Abia state guber poll
Ikpeazu’s problem started after the Nigerian Supreme Court ordered the Federal High Court to retry the case challenging the fraudulent payment of taxes of Governor Ikpeazu before the April 11 governorship election in the state.
It was gathered that some of his opponents in the PDP had approached the Federal High court over the eligibility of Governor Ikpeazu to contest in the primary election conducted for governorship aspirants of the party in the state during the last election in 2015.

Ikpeazu’s opponents had alleged that he was ineligible to contest as he did not pay his taxes of years 2011, 2012 and 2013 as at when due.
According to the group, the taxes he (Ikpeazu) allegedly paid for the three years were paid on the same day. The plaintiff faulted the authenticity of Ikpeazu’s tax clearance certificate and the information contained in his INEC“Form CF100″.
However, in his reaction, Ikpeazu challenged the competence of the Federal High Court Abuja to hear the case but the court overruled his objection. The Court of Appeal however sided him and ruled that the case ought to have been filed at the Abia state High Court.
Determined to get justice, Ikpeazu’s opponents went ahead to seek redress at the Supreme Court following the Court of Appeal ruling and in a judgment handed down on Friday, January 22, by five Supreme Court justices led by Justice Mohammed Muntaka-Coomassie, the court faulted the decision of the Court of Appeal and affirmed the competence of the Federal High Court Abuja to try the case.

Following the Supreme Court order, the Federal High Court in Abuja re-opened the case against Ikpeazu after which, the governor was ordered to immediately vacate his office. For more visit www.starmediabaseblogspot.com

Politics / Ekiti Workers Suspend Strike As Group Demands Fayose’s Resignation by Kingson56(m): 2:36am On Jun 25, 2016
By Rotimi Ojomoyela
Ado-Ekiti – The Organised Labour in Ekiti State on Friday suspended their four-week-old industrial action following the signing of an agreement with the state government this came as another protest rocked Ado-Ekiti, yesterday, as many interest groups stormed the streets to condemn the alleged looting of the state treasury by Governor Ayo Fayose.
At a ceremony in Ado-Ekiti, the state government and the central labour unions agreed to a seven-point deal.
Governor Ayodele Fayose, during the unscheduled visit to the construction site of ongoing ultra modern Oja Oba.
On the government side were the Secretary to the Government, Dr Mrs Modupe Alade, the Head of Service, Dr Gbenga Faseluka and the Chief of Staff, Chief Dipo Anisulowo.
On the side of the labour were the Chairman, Joint Negotiating Council, Comrade Oladipo Johnson, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ade Adesanmi and State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Odunayo Adesoye.
Among the resolutions agreed on were that the state government should within seven days conclude its request with commercial banks to restructure personal loans granted public servants with a view to giving them relief from loan repayment; payment of January 2016 salary immediately and the payment of February salary as soon as Budget Support Fund is available.
Others were giving priority to government’s obligations to public servants, payment of September 2014 salary of primary school teachers as well as Leave Bonus of local government employees.
The others were making N10 million available monthly to gradually defray outstanding gratuities, release the report of the 2015 staff verification exercise and making month‎ly provision for capacity building of public servants.
Speaking on the development, the Head of Service, Dr Gbenga Faseluka, expressed appreciation for the understanding shown by the labour leaders and the commitment of Governor Ayodele Fayose to ensure industrial harmony in the state.
He said the gap in the payment of salaries arose following the understanding between labour and government last September that the state’s resources and statutory allocations were no longer adequate to pay salaries and there was need to merge two allocations to pay a month’s salary.
“When you have such a situation on hand, it is obvious that when you get to 12 months, there would be a gap of six months. The arrangement started and we were combining two allocations to pay a month salary. The state government appreciates the workers and value their support and cooperation,” he said.
The JNC Chairman, Comrade Oladipo Johnson, said the suspension of the strike would allow for ‎further consultations and expressed thanks to workers for their support during the strike.

Addressing the protesters, the state CNPP Publicity Secretary, Ayo Adelabu called on Governor Ayo Fayose to resign from office over his failure to live up to expectation, asking him to come out and defend himself in the N4.7 billion arms deal scandal.
The CNPP also challenged him to explain to Ekiti people how he had spent six months allocation without payment of workers which has grounded the workforce.
The CNPP warned Fayose to stop abusing Mr. President who has been enjoying the full support of the majority of Ekiti people.
“The CNPP strongly condemned Ekiti State legislators who have turned themselves to political slaves in the hand of Fayose. The governor should also come out and explain the N2.3 billion loan he took from bank.
“The CNPP advised Governor Fayose to immediately stop the flyover bridge project and caution his political thugs against the attack of innocent people in the state.”
Executive Director of BCO, Mrs. Omotunde Fajuyi, said Ekiti people are embarrassed by the latest revelation of Fayose’s link with N4.7 billion arms cash adding that all Nigerians must support any move to recover the peoples commonwealth from looters.
She said Ekiti people are people of honour and integrity but expressed dismay that Fayose’s conduct in power has brought shame and odium on all Ekitis both at home and abroad.
Mrs. Fajuyi said: “We support President Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade, we have come out to protest looting of our money, corruption in government and scandals digging this government in Ekiti.
“Workers are dying at home, we want Fayose to explain what he has done with allocations he had so far collected because he had received more than N50 billion as allocation since he came to power.
“Fayose claims to be a Christian, he must come out clean and give account to the people of Ekiti State and he must submit himself and all his aides and associates to anti-corruption agencies for investigation ”
A youth leader, Adeoye Aribasoye, challenged Fayose to explain what he did with ecological funds and N9.6 billion bailout funds he received from the Federal Government.
Aribasoye said: “We have a governor who is richer than the state, a governor who has over N4 billion in his account he is the only one who can exp,a in what he has done with all the funds he had received from federal authorities.
“He must explain the N2.4 billion ecological funds because we don’t know what has happened to the money, he must answer for the revelations of Ekitigate.
“Pupils and students of public schools have been out home for over four weeks due to the strike embarked upon by civil servants and teachers.”
Former Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Kolawole Olaiya, urged the EFCC to probe the whereabouts of the N9.6 billion bailout money released for the payment of workers, pensioners and past political office holders.
He lamented the suffering of civil servants in the state who are owed six month arrears of salaries noting that this has crippled the economy of the state.
Olaiya said: “Corruption is responsible for the inability of Ekiti State government to pay workers’ salaries for six months. With the present revelation that several billions of Naira has been discovered in the sitting governor’s account, it is a confirmation that the governor is corrupt.
“Ekiti workers still believe that the N9.6 billion bailout is kept somewhere and we urge the EFCC to institute a probe into this fact so that workers can receive their six months salary arrears and secure their future.
“Government is created for welfare and security of the people and Governor Fayose has done nothing to improve the people and secure their today and their future. Enough of these lies, Ekitk people must be liberated.
Speaking on behalf of artisans, Idowu Ayegbe said: “We regret all the burden the governor has imposed on us in Ekiti in form of levies and taxes on our pupils. We are not happy with what the governor is doing including his attacks on the President.”

Politics / Power Supply: Don’t Shut Down, Don’t Downsize, Fashola Tells Industrialists by Kingson56(m): 2:22am On Jun 25, 2016
Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola SAN, Thursday in Lagos advised industrialists, directors and other employers of labour in the country not to panic or downsize their staff in the face of current power supply challenges saying the Federal Government has put a roadmap in place that would ensure progressive power supply from incremental to steady and then uninterrupted power supply nationwide.

Speaking at two major events – the Quarterly Business Luncheon of the Institute of Directors (IOD) and the 13th Distinguished Electrical and Electronics Engineers Annual Lecture, Fashola, who was Guest Speaker at the IOD Business Luncheon, underscored his optimism that the current challenges facing the power sector would be over soon, saying the present administration was committed to ensuring a sustainable power supply in the country.

The Minister, who was also Guest of Honour at the Distinguished Electrical and Electronic Engineers Annual Lecture of the Nigerian Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE), told the industrialists, entrepreneurs, directors and other employers of Labour in the Organised Private Sector not to panic by downsizing, shutting down or laying off their staff saying that the nation would overcome the challenges of unsteady power supply just as it had overcome other critical national challenges.

Establishing the context within which to analyse the current situation in the power sector, Fashola traced the evolution of the country’s electricity industry to the 1950s when the nation’s electricity was managed by the Electricity Corporation of Nigeria (ECN) which later gave way to the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) which finally handed over to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) saying that in all those transitions, the generation, transmission and distribution of power was in the hands of the government which also issued meters.

Noting that he inherited a privatised power sector where majority shares of the sector was sold to private companies, Fashola said the majority share was sold in 2013, 63 years after, when government unbundled the PHCN and sold the generation, and distribution processes to private companies adding that government only retained the transmission aspect of power which it manages through the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

Government, the Minister said, also created regulatory agencies like the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trader (NBET) the Nigerian Electricity Management and Safety Agency (NEMSA) and the Nigerian Electricity Liability Management Company (NELMCO) adding that by unbundling the PHCN into 18 companies, government stopped producing and distributing power as well as issuing meters.

He added, “Therefore the power sector I inherited is one that the role of government is reduced to policy and regulation” adding that the functions of generation and distribution were now carried out by the Generation Companies (GenCos) and the Distribution Companies (DisCos) which also have the function of issuing meters.

Noting that the power sector would have been in transition for three years in November this year out of which the present administration has spent one year and he would have spent seven months as Minister, Fashola asked, “The context, therefore, is, between 1950 and 2013 what did we achieve in power?” pointing out that in all that time, only 4,000MW was generated while not all consumers were metered out of the six million known consumers.

“What is reasonable to expect within three years of privatization and one year of a new government in respect of a problem that could not be solved in 63 years?”, he asked, adding, “It is in this context that we can discuss my role as policy maker, regulatory supervisor and enabler for the private sector-led electricity market”.

Noting that the real problem in the sector was lack of sufficient electricity, Fashola, who recalled that the highest generation capacity, achieved only in February this year, was 5074MW for a country of no less than 150 million people as against Chad and Liberia with 84MW and 40MW electricity demands respectively, said the solution to insufficient power was to get more power adding, “This is the basis for leg one of our roadmap- Incremental Power”.

Elucidating further on the plan to produce sufficient power, Fashola listed the various power projects being undertaken across the country, some of which have either been completed and working or are in advanced stages of completion, to include repair of gas turbines, strengthening transmission to evacuate power and the National Independent Power Project (NIPP), Gbarain which, according to him, has now been completed and is being tested.

Other power sources targeted to increase power supply, according to him, also include expanding Qua Iboe, completing Kaduna Power Plant with generation capacity of 215MW, Kasimbilla with 40MW, Dadin Kowa with 39MW, Azura with 300MW, Zungeru 700MW and Gurara 30MW, adding that other sources besides gas powered plants include Zuma Coal, Mambilla Hydro with 1,200MW and Solar which, according to him, is targeted for rural electrification and universities, small hydro-dams as well as some uncompleted constituency projects and embedded generation such as Parias Power.

To achieve Steady Power, Fashola, who recommended a full audit of consumers in the country, which, according to him, could best be done through a comprehensive national census exercise, said it would be impossible to provide steady power supply without a data on the number of people requiring the utility. The Minister added that such an audit would help to bring all consumers into the metering net so as to make them pay for what they consume adding that this would boost the finances of the power generating and distribution companies to deliver more power and for maintenance of power facilities.

The Minister said the prospect of achieving uninterrupted power lay in the maintenance of sustained growth in the sector to match population increase, energy conservation in homes and offices, energy preservation and conservation of water and loss reduction.

He, however, noted that even if all the other variables were met, the hope of steady and uninterrupted power supply could only be assured if the challenges facing the sector were solved some of which he said include, the management of the expectation of the people to have power immediately after privatization because of the impression created that this would happen immediately after, agitations by various aggrieved groups that sometimes lead to attacks on power assets, vandalism of power assets, power theft and problems of payment of bills which include assaults on collectors.

Stressing the importance of conservation in achieving uninterrupted power at the 13th DEEEAL Lecture which he earlier attended, Fashola said at every phase of the roadmap conservation of energy was vital “because whatever is wasted will never be enough” adding that getting incremental power and then steady and uninterrupted power would require that what would be generated would not be wasted.

The Minister, who recalled that the nation achieved 5,074MW of electricity for the first time this year declared, “Energy efficiency is critical at all stages even when we are trying to get incremental power at this stage when we have the capacity to produce about 5,000MW, assuming we have no gas issues”, adding, “That 5,000MW can serve more than the people which it is currently serving if we conserve it”.

Politics / Pipeline Bombing: I Beg You In God’s Name, Buhari Tells Militants by Kingson56(m): 2:13am On Jun 25, 2016
*I agonise over these destructions
*Says economy is on its knees
*How Kachikwu secured interim truce
*No love lost relationship among militants
By Emma Amaize, Regional Editor, South South, Levinus Nwabughiogu
Obviouslyperturbed by the activities of the Niger Delta Militants, NDA, President Muhammadu Buhari last night went spiritual, pleading with them in God’s name to have a change of heart over their destruction of oil and gas installations in the region.
Militants vs Buhari
The president who stated that there were many factions of the Niger Delta Militants also said that the groups were armed with sophisticated weapons and that the economy was on its knees following the bombing of gas pipelines.
He also pleaded with friends and associates of the militants to reach out to them for, stressing that Nigerians do not have any other country to call their own other than Nigeria.
The president spoke at the breaking-of-fast dinner with leaders and chieftains of his political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He said: “I honestly don’t know how many factions of the militants there are in the Niger Delta compared to the north east where you have only the Boko Haram “The technology being deployed by the militants to destroy oil installations is high tech, the way they can go on high sea and international waters and target oil installations is a national problem. It is affecting development.
“No insurance company will want to insure installations that will end up being blown up and no banks will want to finance such installations. “Those of you who have friends among the leadership or even the militants themselves should plead with them in the name of God Almighty to take it easy.
“We need to stablise to create employment, we need to stabilise the economy, I agonise over these things. We are in a very difficult time, so we have to organise ourselves. Anybody that says he has any other country than Nigeria should go out and see.”
Earlier, the national chairman of the APC, Chief John Oyegun expressed satisfaction with the actions of the government so far, saying that Nigeria needed a dogged leader like the president. “Any meaningful development requires strong and determined leader. Things must change. Those things don’t come easily. Nigeria is clearly a difficult nation to govern. “Corruption is fighting back and change does not come easily. The way we do things must change. Our prayer is for God to give you the courage, wisdom and strength to set the new standard for the country”, he said.
Apart from Oyegun, other party leaders who attended the event included former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Ghali Naaba; the party’s Deputy National Chairman (South), Segun Oni; former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva; Tony Momoh and Senator Osita Ozinaso. Also present were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal and former Minister of Labour, Hassan Lawal.
Dialogue, ceasefire: Buhari baffles militants
Meanwhile, President Buhari was said to have kept the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, and other militant groups in the Niger Delta region in suspense since he returned from his short vacation in London, last Sunday. Findings by Saturday Vanguard showed that the militants, who agreed to an interim ceasefire brokered by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachiwu, and his top secret negotiators, were confused about the game plan of President Buhari.
The two-week ceasefire proclaimed by the Federal Government on June 6 expired June 21, two days after Buhari returned from his vacation and militants expected government to officially announce an extension, but it has kept mute on the matter six days after the expiration. Correspondingly, the Federal Government has not come out with a framework for an all-embracing dialogue with stakeholders and militants, a development that has further confounded the situation.
The scrapping of the Joint Task Force, JTF, in the Niger Delta, as part of efforts to ensure better protection of pipelines in the region and tackle insecurity and its replacement with ‘Operation Delta Safe’, as well as planned redeployment of police officers in the region for their failure to stop bombing of oil installations, have also sent tongues wagging.
Militants, who bowed to Kachikwu’s logic, are suspecting that they may have been hoodwinked, while those opposed to their antics want Buhari to order the military to battle them to submission as was done to Boko Haram. .
NDA re-organizes
NDA, which found itself in a dilemma over the new tactics employed by government had come out to distance itself from a purported ceasefire agreement with government, declaring that it would resume hostilities any time the state of affairs becomes intolerable. Its spokesperson, self-styled Brig Gen Mudoch Agbinibo, said, on June 21, day the two-week ceasefire ran out: “The NDA High Command never remembers having any agreement on ceasefire with the Nigeria Government.”
Many had rumored that Dr Kachikwu met with representatives of NDA at Government House, Asaba, when he visited the state on June 15, but the militant group clarified that it sent no representative to the meeting. In its reaction 48 hours later, the group said: “We condemn in its entirety the continuous linking of the Niger Delta Avengers to any meeting in Delta State Government in Asaba with Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.”For more visit...

It added: “ We tell the whole listening world that the Niger Delta Avengers will not be part of any dialogue deal that will not only bring about the ‘peace of our time’ but ‘peace with honour’.” The next day, June 18, following the signals emanating from official quarters, the group re-echoed: “We once again, restate that we are not going to be part of any dialogue and peace that will achieve only ‘the peace of our time.’ What the NDA wants is ‘peace with honour,’ which will enter the genuine framework in setting up the short, medium and long term action plan to the restoration of the essence of quality human life in the Niger Delta.”
Politics / Us Govt: Fayose’s Allegation On President Buhari’s Wife Aisha Was True by Kingson56(m): 6:11pm On Jun 23, 2016
US COURT DOCUMENTS REVEAL AISHA BUHARI’S INVOLVEMENT IN THE ATIKU-JEFFERSON SCANDAL
The United States Justice Department, revealed thatthe All Progressive Congress, APC, Presidential Candidate, Muhammadu Buhari’s wife, Aisha Buhari (posing as Buhari’s daughter), was used as conduit and engaged in fraudulent wire transfers, from her Nigerian account in favour of Congressman Jefferson, via the ANJ Group LLC. The US District Court Memo, states that Congressman William J. Jefferson, between August 2000 and August 2005, sought hundreds of millions of dollars on behalf of himself and family members. In return, the defendant used his congressional office to promote the business interests of bribe-paying companies, whose very success was dependent upon the approvals of certain United States and West African government agencies and officials.
Congressman Jefferson, further compounded his criminal culpability by conspiring with others to pay a bribe to the then-sitting Vice President of Nigeria. The WhistleNG, in an exclusive report, stated that in hushed and sometimes cryptic taped recorded conversations, Congressman Jefferson, explained in details how the success of the Nigerian telecommunications venture depended on bribing the Vice President of Nigeria, who the defendant described as “really corrupt.” The US District Court during their investigation, also revealed that Williams Jefferson, in one of his numerous bribe schemes, wired $170,000 to a Nigerian account in the name of Aisha Buhari. “During the investigation of his numerous bribe schemes, law enforcement agents learned of several wire transfers from offshore territories into U.S. financial accounts, that were either controlled by the defendant or whose proceeds were made available for his benefit. See Donald C. Semesky, Jr., Tr. at 104 – 116; see also Government Exhibits 36-87 (6/26/02 $170,000 wire transfer from account in Nigeria in the name of Aisha Buhari, to an account in the name of The ANJ Group, LLC, identifying “William Jefferson” as Beneficiary), Government Exhibits 36-90 and 36-91 (11/28/03 $50,000 wire transfer from account in British Virgin Islands in the name of Dawson Creek Traders to an account in the name of Jefferson Interests, Inc. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, in their report dated June 22, 2006 also stated that former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, was summoned by the US government for Investigation into the iGate/NDTV business deals involving Congressman Jefferson, which also contained Haija Aisha M. Buhari’s bank records and transfer history. Reports from New York Times Story (April 29, 2007) revealed Aisha Buhari on the dubious $1.2m campaigning contract, to help the former Akwa Ibom State Gov., Obong Attah, boost his image and attract investment to Akwa Ibom in his bid to become President of Nigeria, as well as a contract where Aisha Buhari, served as a consultant to orchestrate enormous name golfers to go to the opening of the Uyo Golf Resort, commissioned by former Governor, Obong Attah.
As indicated by the New York Times story, “she (Aisha Buhari) told him that her father was the former military ruler of Nigeria, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, and that her American friends included politicians like Mr. Jefferson of Louisiana.” The former Governor, also verified the claim by the New York Times when he said, he knows Ms. Buhari’s daughter, who is still a powerful Nigerian politician, by reputation.
He also met her, he said, in 2001 when she accompanied a group of American politicians that included Mr. Jefferson to Akwa Ibom, to see oil-related pollution problems there. “All I needed to do was ask Aisha if she knew him,” Mr. Attah recalls. General Buhari, has since denied that Aisha Buhari is his daughter, in spite of the contrary proofs, pretty much as he denied his adopted son, Mr. Mohammed Buhari, who was likewise captured in May 2014, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for swindling a woman Mrs. Nwokwocha Florence, of N20m to put resources into an oil and gas business with a guarantee to make mouthwatering returns to the woman

Agriculture / This Is For Farmer Who Want Cultivate Cassava And Make How To Cultivate Cassava by Kingson56(m): 4:17pm On Jun 23, 2016
THIS IS FOR FARMER WHO WANT CULTIVATE CASSAVA AND MAKE BIG PROFIT OUT OF IT. Follow the steps thanks!!!!
Cassava Plant Care – Information On How To Grow Cassavas
As the bard says, “What’s in a name?” There is an important distinction in the spelling and meaning of many similar words. Take for instance, yucca and yuca. These are both plants but one has agricultural and nutritional significance, while the other is an ornery, desert dwelling organism. The lack of a “c” in one name highlights just one difference between yucca and yuca. Read on to find out why yuca, or cassava, is a global food source and important economic crop.
Are Yucca and Cassava the Same?
Yuccasare flowering, perennial plants, which have remarkable tolerance to dry, arid regions. They are in the lily or agave family and generally grow as rosettes of spiky leaves that spring from a central stubby trunk. Ancient civilizations and more modern native populations eat the roots of the yucca. This is one of the similarities the plant has with cassava. Advertisement
Cassava (Manihot esculenta) is also known as yuca and is an important plant for its starchy roots. These contain 30 percent starch and are high in carbohydrates. Cassava roots are prepared and eaten like potatoes. Cassava originated in Brazil and Paraguay, but now many other nations are learning how to grow cassavas.
So are yucca and cassava the same plant? They are not even related and prefer different growing climates. The only similarities are the close name and use of roots as a food source.
How to Grow Cassavas
Growing cassava yuca successfully relies upon tropical climates and at least eight months of warm weather.
The plant prefers well-drained soil and modest rainfall, but it can survive where soils are wet. Cassava roots do not tolerate freezing temperatures and the best growth is in full sun.
Growing cassava yuca from start to harvest can take up to 18 months. The plants are started from propagules made from parts of mature stems. These are 2 to 3 inch cuttings with several bud nodes along the length. Lay the cutting on prepared soil in a pot and keep lightly misted in a sunny location.
Grow the cuttings indoors until temperatures outside are at least 70 F. (21 C.). Transplant them outside when the cuttings have sprouted and have at least 2 inches of growth. YOU CAN ASK QUESTION @ Www.facebook.com/developagriculture
Agriculture / How To Grow Rice by Kingson56(m): 3:43pm On Jun 23, 2016
How to Grow Rice
Rice comes in long-grain, medium- and short-grain textures. It grows easily in your backyard, in a garden bed or in buckets, given the right amount of soil, water, and other nutrients. Short-grain, medium-grain and long-grain rice thrive in wet conditions, specifically standing puddles of water or swamp-like conditions. Once the rice grains develop, the water in which they grow must drain so that you can harvest and mill the crop. After the harvesting and milling processes, you can eat the rice.
Part One of Three:
Planting Your Rice
1
Purchase rice seeds from any gardening or farmers supply store. You may also buy rice seeds from a reputable supply store or seek help from the local agriculture field officer. There are five basic types of rice to choose from: [1]
*.Long-grain.This type of rice produces grains that are light and fluffy. It tends to be a bit drier than other varieties.
*.Medium-grain.This type is moist, tender, slightly sticky, and a little creamy when cooked. It has the same texture as long-grain.
*.Short-grain.When cooked, short-grain rice becomes soft and sticky. It's also a little more sweet – this is the rice to use with sushi.
*.Sweet.This rice is sometimes called sticky rice, and is gooey when cooked. It’s often used for frozen products.
*.Aromatic.Thistype of rice has more flavor and fragrance than other varieties. This category includes Basmati, Jasmine, Red, and Black japonica.
*.Arborio. This type becomes creamy with a chewy center after cooking. It’s used primarily for risotto and other Italian dishes.
2
Choose your planting location.Make sure the soil in the area you're planting consists of slightly acidic clay for the best results. You may also plant your rice seeds in plastic buckets with the same type of soil. Wherever you plant, make sure you have a reliable water source and a way to drain that water when you need to harvest.
*.Pick a location that receives full sunlight, as rice grows best with bright light and warm temperatures of at least 70° Fahrenheit (approximately 21° Celsius).
*.Consider the season – your area needs to allow for 3 to 6 months of plant and flower growth. Rice needs a long, warm growing season, so a climate like the southern United States is best. If you don't have long periods of warmth, it may be best growing your rice inside. [2]
3
Gather at least 1 to 2 ounces (28.5 to 56.5 g) of rice seeds to sow.Soak the seeds in water to prep them for planting. Allow them to soak for at least 12 hours but not longer than 36 hours. Remove the seeds from the water afterward.
*.While your seeds are soaking, plan out where and how you want to plant them. Most prefer to plant the seeds in rows to make it easier to water and weed. Consider building trenches and blocking the ends so the water stays contained and dammed (berms can be used as well). That being said, the area doesn't need to stay floodedper se,it just needs to stay wet.SEE MORE AT Www.facebook.com/developagriculture

Agriculture / How To Grow Or Plant Oil Palm by Kingson56(m): 3:23pm On Jun 23, 2016
THIS HOW TO GROW OR PLANT OIL PALM,
MODERN OIL PALM CULTIVATION
1.
A modern oil palm plantation needs a grower who has learned how to cultivate oil palms.
Growing selected oil palms is not just a matter of picking the fruit; it is a modern crop.
The grower must learn how to do his work well.
The grower should ask for advice, so that he learns to do better and better.
The grower must think about his work and plan it, so that he can always do his work at the right time.
Selected oil palms give the grower much more work than the natural trees, but they yield much more.
An oil palm grower is a modern farmer.
With the money he earns he can buy for his family what they need, and he can modernize his farm.
BEFORE STARTING THINK THINGS OVER CAREFULLY
An oil palm begins to produce 3 or 4 years after it has been planted.
During that time the grower must spend money and work hard, without harvesting any fruit or earning any money.
1.
To make a modern oil palm plantation takes money.
Most often you will have to pay workmen for clearing the site of the plantation and removing tree stumps.
Then you must buy seedlings and fertilizers.
Unless you apply fertilizers to the oil palms when they are still young, they will not grow well and you will have to wait a longer time before you can begin to harvest.
You may also have to pay workers to help you look after the young plantation. Weeds must not be allowed to get in the way of the oil palms, and the trees must be protected from damage by rats and agoutis.
All this work takes a lot of time, and this means that you may not have enough time to look after large fields of food crops.
You may have to buy food for your family.
Before you start an oil palm plantation, you must calculate carefully whether you will be able to pay all these expenses.
2.
To grow oil palms takes a lot of work.
Before planting your oil palms, you have to clear the forest and remove the tree stumps.
Then it takes a lot of time to sow the cover crop, dig holes in the plantation, take the seedlings out of the nursery, carry them to the plantation and plant them.
All this work needs to be carefully done; you must take your time.
Never hurry if you want to be successful with your plantation.
Once the oil palms are planted, you must put wire netting around the young trees, you must spread fertilizer and keep watch over the plantation.
Young oil palms need a lot of care. It is better to make a smaller plantation, but look after it carefully.
Once the oil palms have begun to produce, the fruit must be harvested at the right moment.
If you cannot pick the fruit at the right moment, it becomes too ripe, many clusters will drop and the quality of the fruit will be less good.
4. To grow oil palms takes much time and much care.
Do not try to cultivate too large an area, or the work will be badly done.
It is better to cultivate a small plantation and to do the work well.
A small plantation that is well looked after can yield more than a large plantation that is badly looked after.
LIFE OF THE OIL PALM
1.
The oil palm may have a very long life.
It is important to know about the life of the oil palm.
If you know all about the life of the oil palm, you will understand better how to cultivate them.
If you do not take care of the seeds, they will germinate only after several years.
At the research stations, the seeds are kept in a room where it is always very hot.
This makes the seeds germinate sooner, after 90 to 100 days.
2.
Each seed germinated is planted in a small plastic container.
A new leaf grows every month.
The young seedling stays in the container for 4 to 5 months.
When you see a left with two points(bifid leaf)coming up, transplant the seedling out into the nursery.see more are develop -agriculture.com
