2018 budget defence: Senators walk Fashola out
Fri, 15 Dec 2017
the Senate Committee on Power, Steel Development and Metallurgy has turned back Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, over alleged “unpreparedness to face the committee for his 2018 budget defence.”

The minister was turned back when he appeared before the committee, to defend estimates of his ministry’s 2018 budget, yesterday. The event took place at the Senate Hearing Room 2.11, in the New Senate Wing of the National Assembly.
The move by the committee was just as senators picked holes in the ministry’s proposed N10 billion solar power projects for nine universities across various states.
The Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe-led committee said Fashola was not ready to face members and that the minister did not appear before them with necessary documents concerning the budget.

Excess Crude Account: SERAP, CSOs flay NEC for $1bn approval to fight BHaram

Fri, 15 Dec 2017

The National Economic Council, on Thursday, asked the Federal Government to withdraw $1bn from the $2.3bn currently in the Excess Crude Account and use it to fight insurgency in the North-East.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the council presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The council chaired by the Vice-President has all state governors as members.

Some civil society groups and analysts, however, faulted the move by the Federal Government on the basis that past allocations to defence and the anti-terrorism operations had yet to be judiciously accounted for.

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, disclosed the decision of NEC to State House correspondents at the end of the meeting.

Criticisms trial Govs' approval of N1bn to fight Boko Haram
Fri, 15 Dec 2017
The National Economic Council, NEC, at its meeting in Abuja yesterday resolved that $1 billion be withdrawn from the Excess Crude Account to boost the fight against insurgency by the military, just as it came to light that at least five soldiers were killed during an attack by Boko Haram militants on Nigerian Army positions in Mainok village in Borno State on Wednesday night.
The proposal to withdraw the $1 billion from the ECA would leave the account with a balance of $1.31 billion, a development that was flayed by Senator Enyinannya Abaribe who said that only the National Assembly could make appropriations to the security agencies. Lawyers, however, expressed mixed reactions on the issue.

State Assemblies Begin Debate On Constitution Amendment

Indication emerged yesterday that the National Assembly sent only 15 bills to State Houses of Assembly for adoption out of the 21 bills adopted by the National Assembly.

Recall that the National Assembly Constitution Review Committee led by Senate Deputy President Ike Ekweremadu formulated 33 bills for the purpose of the constitution amendment.

#Just as they deceived those 15m MUMUs in 2015, they have started the 2019 election deceit...

*Buhari goes to Daura to greet his cows.

*Osinbajo goes to the market to buy ATARODO and TOMATO in Ijebu.

*Aisha Buhari sighted inside KEKE NAPEP.

Soon, another story of KULIKULI seller donating N1,000 to Buhari's campaign fund and people TREKKING from Lagos to Abuja will start...

As for me, I was not deceived in 2015 when they shared pictures of Buhari using sachet COWBELL MILK to drink tea and I will never be deceived now even if they show video of Buhari riding Okada from Daura to Abuja.

Fresh Crisis Rocks PDP 5 Days After Convention
Thu, 14 Dec 2017

Not satisfied with the election of the party’s national executive, some aggrieved candidates and stakeholders have threatened to form a parallel National Working Committee (NWC).
Despite ongoing post conventions reconciliation process, the aggrieved candidates, who rejected the results arising from the election at the national convention, are demanding the immediate release of what they called the authentic results of the actual votes cast by delegates at the convention.
They called on the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) to ensure the immediate execution of the demands by convening an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting within seven days from December 12, 2019.

Northern leaders list terms for restructuring, want Marshall Plan
Thu, 14 Dec 2017

The North is not intimidated by calls for restructuring of the nation and is ready to discuss the issue if the right cards are put on the table.

This was part of submissions following a two-day retreat by the Northern Senators Forum (NSF) in Katsina State yesterday.

According to the Forum, the region was not afraid of any “sensible and meaningful arrangement, provided it guarantees justice, equity, fairness and the unity of all Nigerians”.

It described the matter as ambiguous, even to “proponents, without clear terms and directions on how to go about it”, adding, the North would, at a later date, take a “well articulated, firm and common position” on restructuring, in collaboration with other northern members of the National Assembly.

Herdsmen strike in Ogun, police arrest three with arms
Thu, 14 Dec 2017
Ogun State yesterday became the latest in the country to record another attack by herdsmen.
Three herders, who attempted to graze their cattle on a farm in Oke Odo, Ketu Local Council Development Area, were confronted by the owner, Ige Orisade. Infuriated by the challenge, the herdsmen allegedly assaulted the victim, who sustained serious injuries.
Following a tip-off, the trio of Mohammed Bello, 40; Mohammed Momoh, 30; and Yisau Umoru, 18, were later arrested by men of the state police command.

The media recently reported the killing by herdsmen of 10 persons in Kogi State. The governor’s security adviser, Navy Commander Jerry Omodara, however, disputed the figure, saying only one person died.

East-West Road designed to fail 'Minister
Thu, 14 Dec 2017
Minister of Niger Delta, Usani Usani, yesterday, flayed previous governments over the strategic East-West Road, which he said was designed to fail.
According to him, “the East West road is a project that has been messed up from inception, naturally designed to fail by all the agreements and designed concepts that we have seen.”
Usani who made the claim at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said names of between 30 and 40 contractors would be sent to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) for prosecution for their roles in the East West Road as well as other projects awarded in the Niger Delta ministry by previous administrations.
“… I have got a minimum of 30 to 40 contractors that I am sending to EFCC. On the East West road, I have taken a private consultant to review the whole cost. So, some contractors will obviously refund money for which the present cost will be discounted. So, when you see contractors ganging up and publishing things against me, you should know the foundation. But as far as I am here, I will do something that I feel is right.”

NDA cadets drop uniforms with Fulanimen, disappear Residents
Thu, 14 Dec 2017
The Nigerian Army has said it will investigate an allegation that some cadets of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna State, sneak out of the camp and drop their uniforms with Fulani residents.

The army announced this on its Twitter handle on Wednesday while reacting to some aggrieved Nigerians who said such practice by the cadets had allegedly become common in the NDA.
One of the commentators, who gave her name only as Raliyah, said the danger of cadets dropping their uniforms with Fulani gatemen before sneaking out of the camp, could lead to hoodlums using the camouflage to perpetrate crimes.

Raliyah, who claimed to have seen the cadets on several occasions, said, “I noticed the happenings in the NDA which could be a big threat in the nearest future if something is not done about it. Cadets, who are meant to go out only when it is official, tend to sneak out of the premises. But this is not a problem.

APC will win 2019 election- South-South leaders insist
Tue, 12 Dec 2017
South-South leaders have commended the courage and patriotism of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, insisting the country’s ruling party will win the next general election. The leaders also came down hard on the suspended national deputy publicity secretary of APC, Mr. Timi Frank. The leaders said, “It is sad to note that rather than addressing the cogent issues raised by Oyegun, Timi Frank chose to attack the national chairman of the ruling party for his sincere views about the chances of APC in 2019 and the defection of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.” Chairman of South-South Front (SSF), Chief John Harry in a statement released in Asaba, berated Timi Frank for pushing the real issues aside and employing sentiments and blackmail to explain the defection of Atiku Abubakar to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

EFCC lacks powers to prosecute judges – Court
Tue, 12 Dec 2017
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) lacks the powers to investigate and prosecute serving judicial officers, the Court of Appeal in Lagos ruled yesterday.
The court presided over by Justice Adejumo Obaseki held that judges can only be tried after their dismissal by the National Judicial Council (NJC).
The court, however, said serving judges can be prosecuted for offences like murder, stealing, among others, committed outside the discharge of their duties.
But once the offence was committed in the discharge of their duties, they must be investigated and tried by the NJC first, the court ruled.
Justice Obaseki was ruling on an appeal filed by Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa - a serving judge of the Federal High Court – who was arraigned by the EFCC for allegedly receiving $260,000 and N8.65 million gratifications to enrich himself as a judicial official.
Nganjiwa was arraigned on 14 - counts before the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere, presided by Justice Adedayo Akintoye, on June 23, 2017.

Crime / Police Arrest Four Over Badoo Killings In Lagos by LadyNaija(f): 8:36pm On Dec 11, 2017
At least four suspected members of the Badoo gang have been arrested over their alleged involvement in the recent killing of a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor, Victor Kanayo and a woman with her children in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Ibrahim Anifowose, 28, and Uche Igwe were arrested at their hideouts at Aremu Street, Ojota, for allegedly killing Kanayo.

Abdulrazaq Yahyaha and Abubakar Tenimu were apprehended at Ibeshe in connection with other killings.

According to the state Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased persons were recovered from the suspects.

Edgal said Anifowose, Igwe and some other persons at large invaded the pastor’s home the day he was killed, adding that they entered his house by cutting the window.

The police commissioner said police discovered a grinding stone suspected to have been used by the pastor’s killers.

Edgal said: “Detectives swung into action immediately. The undercover operatives traced the suspects to their hideout at Ojota from where they were arrested. The detectives recovered the deceased telephone from the suspects.

“This will be the last time I will refer to the group as Badoo cult members. These people are hoodlums and murderers and should be referred to as such. I urge members of the public to see them as criminals.”

He said that detectives are currently on the trail of other members of the gang, stressing that all those arrested would be treated as murderers.

Politics / Amaechi: "I Was Broke, My Friend Gave N200m After I Prayed, Fasted For 3 Months" by LadyNaija(f): 8:28pm On Dec 11, 2017
Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, says after praying and fasting for three months, God used a friend to help him raise N200 million needed for his personal expenditure and litigation fees to reclaim his mandate in the 2007 election.

Although Amaechi won the primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), it was Celestine Omehia, his cousin, who represented PDP in the election.

Amaechi had headed to the court and after six months of legal battle, the supreme court sacked Omehia and he was eventually sworn in.

Speaking at a thanksgiving service in Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital on Sunday, the minister charged the congregation to believe in the power of prayer.

“The truth is that we believed God. Some who didn’t believe left us just as they are leaving now. God told me that what he will do in Rivers State will tingle the ears, and I believed,” Amaechi said.

“We were so broke, we could not pay legal fees or children’s school fees. My wife prayed every day and night. I was fasting and praying for three months. I told God ‘I have a friend who has money, please make him remember me.’

“I called my friend and he told me he has been looking for me. I told him I was in Ghana and he asked for my account… He sent me Two hundred million naira. This is just to tell you that I believed God and he answered me.

“We must all go back to God in faith and prayers. Those who want to leave can go. I have come to understand that God passes us through these challenges to prove himself. Now that they have left, for me, this is an opportunity for the youths. It is your turn. You must ensure that we get to power for you to fill the vacuum left.”

He said if members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not pray, 2019 will “be very far from us”.

Secondus victory: PDP punished SWest for role in 2015, says APC
Mon, 11 Dec 2017
The All Progressives Congress, on Sunday, alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party, at its Saturday’s convention, decided to punish the South-West for voting against the PDP in the 2015 elections.
The APC made this allegation in a statement in Abuja on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.
It said the failure of the South-West to get the PDP chairmanship was a punishment meted out to the zone by the former ruling party.
The ruling party further said the national convention of the PDP had once again showed Nigerians that corruption was deeply rooted in the PDP’s genes.

Probe reveals N30b oil revenue ‘hidden’ by NNPC
Mon, 11 Dec 2017
Full disclosure in the administration of crude sales remains an issue at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) despite current efforts at enthroning transparency in the conduct of government business.
An account reconciliation activity for crude oil transactions found gaps in the corporation’s reporting and remittances to the Federation Account for the month of October 2017.
State governments had boycotted the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting on November 23, accusing the NNPC of cutting corners in reporting and remitting of receipts from oil in the period under review.

Buhari not capable of being dishonest ' Oyegun
Mon, 11 Dec 2017
Quite frankly, we have done very well all considered. One keeps saying it that the situation we took over was much worse than we expected. You had to deal with the unexpected event of the collapse of the crude oil market which made it very difficult to get the funding that was needed to reflate the economy. So, it posed Herculean challenges both for the government and the people of this nation.

Politics / President Buhari To Leave For France Tomorrow For One Planet Summit by LadyNaija(f): 2:08pm On Dec 10, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari will leave the country tomorrow to join 50 other world leaders in the One Planet Summit in Paris, France.

The summit, is jointly organised by the United Nations, the World Bank Group, and the French Government in partnership with non-governmental organisations concerned about reversing the negative effects of climate change.

The summit holds at the eco-friendly La Seine Musicale, situated on the picturesque Seguin Island in western Paris.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina on Sunday.

He explained that the main focus of the summit, was “Climate Change Financing.”

The statement further stated that while recognising that all countries are affected by the effects of climate change under “One Planet,” some more vulnerable, the summit seeks for tangible collective action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Before heading for the Summit venue, President Buhari will attend a lunch hosted by President Emmanuel Macron of France for Heads of State and Governments at the Elysee Palace.

“President Buhari and other world leaders and participants will make presentations under four sub-themes namely: Scaling-up Finance for Climate Action; Greening Finance for Sustainable Business; Accelerating Local and Regional Climate Action; and Strengthening Policies for Ecological and Inclusive Transition,” Adesina explained.

While signing the Paris Agreement on Climate Change at the sidelines of the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 22, 2016, the Nigerian leader had said it, “demonstrated Nigeria’s commitment to global efforts to reverse the effects of the negative trend.”

He added that the participation of Nigeria’s delegation at the “One Planet Summit” will reinforce the country’s commitment to realising the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

Buhari will depart for Paris on Monday in company of the governors of Adamawa, Kano and Ondo States, and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Environment.

He will return to Abuja on Thursday.

Sat, 09 Dec 2017

The two missions in their security advice cautioned their citizens against all but essential travels to Bauchi, Zamfara, Kano; Kaduna; Jigawa; Katsina, Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, and Yobe states during the Yuletide.

The two countries stated that the risk of terrorist attacks was still high in the run-up to and throughout the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

Eight out of the nine screened and cleared national chairmanship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party are today competing to get the support of the 2,233 delegates who are voting at the party’s national convention, which holds on Saturday (today).

The list of the delegates was exclusively obtained by our correspondent in Abuja on Friday.

The aspirants are Prince Uche Secondus, Chief Gbenga Daniel, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, Dr. Raymond Dokpesi, Mr. Aderemi Olusegun and Chief Olabode George, who later withdrew from the race on Friday evening.

NATIONAL CONVENTION: ALL EYES ON PDP
Sat, 09 Dec 2017
Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will today be literally set on fire as the delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the nation’s main opposition party, converge for the party’s national convention.
For followers of events in the party, it would be a “make or mar” convention as its outcome would predictably determine the future of the PDP.

Considering its pedigree, the art of politics would resonate in the FCT as members of the party converge on the Eagles Square venue to participate in the elective congress. In the estimation of critical observers, the convention will largely task the party’s internal mechanism of electing key officials that will position it solidly for the general elections in 2019.

Atiku Abubakar and the PDP: Time to change the tales ' Dr. Ugoji Egbujo
Sat, 09 Dec 2017
In 2015, Governor Fayose told us about his 74 year old mother and her diapers. He was desperate to paint the picture that a 73-year old would be too frail, too demented, to be president. He bought front pages of some national newspapers. He made Buhari the butt of deathly geriatric jokes. In a few months, he would return to the soap box. Fayose would ( tell people to vote for a 73-year-old Atiku. Atiku would be 73 in 2019. I believe Atiku is fit. But the Fayoses of the PDP would have to repackage their tales.

Celebrities / Alibaba: Unemployment Made 80% Of Kano People To Massively Welcome Buhari by LadyNaija(f): 5:55pm On Dec 08, 2017
Nigerian Popular comedian Alibaba took on his Instagram to comment on the news going around, how Kano came out massively to welcome Buhari on a Day visit.

Posting this photo from Presidnet Buhari' recent 2-day visit to Kano, Alibaba wrote

'If 80% of these people were gainfully employed they will not be on the road welcoming Buhari. And it's not about PMB. Because these are backlogs of unemployed and unemployable citizens for over 20 years and counting. These are the types that will cast votes for you for an exchange of a 5kg bag of rice. Why? Because they are down to their last hope. I tell many people.

A citizen who gets good primary education will be triggered to get secondary education. At worst they will do better at Vocational schools. But once there is no foundational education, as basic as A is for Apple and 1+1=2 and all elementary teachings, the brain is locked out of the growth process. Because that basic education is what all other things are built on. Look at the pictures, you see popularity... I see thousands who can be used by anyone who has plans that will not benefit this country. Let's begin to educate the child. The educated child will understand policies. The educated child will become a good citizen. The educated child will grow up to contribute to Nigerian economy. What do I know Sef? Shebi I am just a comedian?

Government issues conflicting reasons for fuel shortage
Fri, 08 Dec 2017
Nigerians wishing a quick end to the scarcity of fuel across the country may have more days to wait going by the explanation offered by Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu.

Kachikwu at a press briefing in Abuja yesterday blamed the fuel crisis on gap in supply of petroleum products. His explanation, however, seemed to contradict one earlier given by government.

Following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had blamed the fuel scarcity on demand by nations in temperate regions, saying: “This is winter period. There is always more demand for refined products from petroleum ‎during winter in the colder countries. This is what we are experiencing now.”

‘‘I am overwhelmed with the massive reception I have received, and definitely, since this is partisan politics, I think it has sent a clear message to the opposition.

Celebrities / Ubi Franklin Gives Update On Tekno, Are’s Fight by LadyNaija(f): 6:33pm On Dec 03, 2017
Owner of TripleMG and Tekno’s manager, Ubi Franklin, has finally spoken concerning fight that ensued between Tekno and Wizkid’s manager Sunday Are.

It was reported that Wizkid’s manager, Sunday Are, allegedly assaulted Tekno, for being rude to him at the One Africa Music Festival in Dubai.

Reacting, Ubi Franklin said no legal action will be taken against Wizkid manager as the matter has been settled amicably.

According to him, it is normal for artistes to fight each other, but they will always settle it in the long run.

He said, “I was there. Tekno had an issue with Sunday Are and the atmosphere became really tense.

“The truth is I don’t want to talk about it because we have settled it amicably and we have all moved on. It is a ‘dead’ issue. I don’t want to make it sound like I am the one trying to bring it up again. You know my responsibility is to chase after money.

“If they want to fight, they should fight. When they are done fighting, we will still come together and make money. My work is to make money even while they are fighting,” he added.

Speaking on why Tekno didn’t win an award at 2017 AFRIMA, he said, “I respect AFRIMA a lot and I have found out that AFRIMA is basically about voting. It is possible that we didn’t ask people to vote at our end.

“You know in Nigeria, a lot of people don’t like to vote for awards; they don’t like to canvass for votes. I think musicians, who canvassed for votes, were the ones who won. It doesn’t mean that those who won are better than the artistes who didn’t win.”
