Jobs/Vacancies / Re: A Valuable Job Lesson To Learn From Osimhen-napoli Saga by Laird(m): 11:50pm On Aug 31
EmekaStanley:
Before you sign any contract or offer letter from any employer, please go through it thoroughly.

Napoli literally exiled Victor Osimhen from both the first team and the second team, and will be handing his No. 9 shirt to Lukaku.

This is a player who was instrumental to Napoli’s glorious triumph 2 seasons ago.

If you have not thought about it, then you need to, especially as it concerns employer-employee relationship.

Most employers don't actually care about what you have achieved for/with them in the past.

And be careful when the ovation high so you don't commit yourself into what will become a legal imbroglio. Always leave avenue for quitting, without too many clauses.

Know when to leave, because wisdom is profitable to direct.

ES

Op.the Coach said Osimhen had said months back said he would not comtinue playing for Napoli

I also heard Osimhen rejected Chelaea's salary offer

Please check and confirm facts. I might be wrong maybe

Good talk, but this is Nigeria sometimes you bend the rules for your own.

So if You as a bus driver have been waiting on the bus parkline for your turn to load your bus with passengers and suddenly a bus just comes and is put ahead of every bus in the line because the bus owner is one of the bus park loaders girlfriend. You will agree

She did the right thing. Work professionalism is different from emotional sentiments and tantrums

Sometimes this your suggestion irks me. Do they tell you I don't have savings. My conductor drinks beer everyday that's worth 3k, what will you say about that.
What of people that smokes 3 packet and other things everyday, should they save that too

I once worked with a simple in appearance Boss who had so many staff and many customers. But when his wife comes for medical attention, she joins the waiting queue to see the doctor of her choice

Trying to beat fuel queue when people have been waitng to buy fuel could be dangerous to You who wants to skip people who have been waiting and your girl who sells the fuel

You dont know who is who. Someone on the line could reject the chancing, start a fight or a fire or even assault either or both of You and the person could have superior fighting skills, government or military connections to walk away scot free because both of You are wrong

People are frustrated and angry and are looking for who to pour their anger on.

Besides You are dating or marrying her does not mean she should
openly show favouritism at work

So if You are working as a cashier in a bank, would your girlfriend or wife just come and see a line of people waiting for you to attend to them and just jump ahead of people waiting so You can take her withhdrawal slip and give her money.

If You go for an xray and you and other people are waiting till it reaches your turn, and suddenly someone comes and is allowed to enter for xray that is not emergency because the person is the xray womans husband or sister, would you agree

There should be professionalism and not open bias at work

Health / Re: A Community's Kindness: Raising Funds For An Asthmatic Patient by Laird(m): 9:19am On Aug 08
BalogunWrites:
On the afternoon of July 19, 2024, I was at the forefront of raising funds for an asthmatic patient, strongly supported by the market women at the Isinkan wood market, Akure. When I saw the man walking towards me, holding his chest and bending over, I crossed to the other side, though I was concerned. I hesitated when he kept beckoning to me.

When he waved something in his right hand and two women from the market walked briskly toward him, I crossed back to him and saw his inhaler beside him. He took out his buttoned phone and pointed at me, begging me to buy it, saying he needed the money to get to the hospital immediately or get another inhaler. The one with him hasn’t been working properly for him, and he said it’s a counterfeit.

I was dumbfounded and numb for a while. Then, one of the women asked him how much the inhaler cost. He said ₦9,500. "Ah! Nibo la ti fe ri bayii??" one woman asked sadly from behind, with her hands on her head.

Passersby started to gather gradually. One of the market women swiftly suggested that we could gather the money if everyone contributed a little. "That's true, but will people give?" I asked one of the women. Without thinking, I brought out everything I had with me—four two-hundred naira notes. I raised the notes, and the woman who suggested it burst out speaking Yoruba to persuade the crowd and passersby, while I spoke in English to persuade those who couldn't understand Yoruba.

People dropped their notes—₦100, ₦200, ₦500. Luckily, a man came around, asked what had happened, and dropped many ₦200 notes from his purse. The man even brought a half-bottle of water from his car when the patient brought out some pills. We gathered more than ₦9,500. I handed the money to the man and sauntered out of the crowd in search of a free motorcyclist. The man was helped onto the motorcycle and instructed to take him to the hospital.

The market women appreciated me, and I respectfully bent to thank the women, especially the man who contributed a lot. They didn’t know my mind was clouded with thoughts about the sale of counterfeit inhalers.

Two things made me more emotional: the sale of counterfeit inhalers and how people showed kindness today. I doubted it when one of the market women suggested fundraising for the man. Obviously, some didn’t contribute anything, but they showed they cared, and nobody brought out phones to make videos or take photographs.

I mean... are inhalers not for asthmatic patients anymore? I had doubts that counterfeit inhalers could be in some pharmacies right now, but some people in the crowd said it’s possible! I don’t know much about this.

My first close experience was when I was in 300 level, and a student in the next room, an asthmatic patient, was rushed out by her friends to UNIMED. Only God knows how that girl survived that night.

This post might not get anywhere, but if you see this and know how to campaign against the sale of counterfeit inhalers in pharmaceuticals, please act. If you have the heart to be kind, please don’t stop.

Foreign Affairs / Re: The Executive Order In The USA That Will Change The World. by Laird(m): 7:09am On Jul 30
lawani:
The executive order in the USA that will change the world.

The US President can sign an executive order saying a well finished three bedroom, two bath apartment well finished anywhere in the USA should cost only between three hundred and five hundred dollars per annum in rent and use that scale to fix rent for all accommodations across the country. All high income countries would follow suit and salaries, prices and overall cost of living in high income countries will drop like a rock. Everywhere will be as cheap to live in as say Ethiopia or North Korea as it should be.

As salaries, prices and cost of living generally drop in high income countries, low income countries will gain by way of a crash in oil prices which will go down by more than ninety percent if not more. Pump price for PMS in a place like Nigeria will plummet to around ten percent of what it is currently. Other things imported from high income countries will also experience sharp drops in prices.

It will be the beginning of a new world order of equality and governments will stay on top of everything by regulating the real estate sector which is the only immoveable part of the basic necessities of life.

For the past decades, the real estate sector have been preying on the rest of the economy especially in high income nations but all countries are exposed. If your per capita income as a nation is over five thousand dollars per annum, you are very exposed.

Houses cost money to build and no one recovers rent in a year. If the rent is far less, it wont be profitable and no one would build Except the government builds millions of subsidized housing

High inflation won't get the country anywhere. People are pissed as hell about the inflation rate and a lot of it is now down to a rather loose monetary policy. A paint of beans jumped from 9k a paint to 10k a paint in a week.

There's no alternative to an higher interest rate no matter how unpalatable it will be to the business sector.

Consumer credit in Nigeria can fuel inflation

Low interest Credit for manufacturing , construction, food and critical sectors can reduce inflation in my opinion as more producers amd more providers of this essentials like food, healthcare, medicine, housing can lead to more competition and lower prices
Business / Re: Interest Rate At 30% Will Stifle Growth, Hinder Job Creation - Dangote Warns CBN by Laird(m): 10:13am On Jul 03
grandstar:

This is the standard practice globally. Interest rates until it kills inflation.

It will lead to all the adverse conditions you mentioned but it will be implemented nevertheless.

That is why central banks are independent and government nor businessman can't dictate to them. The central bank will continue to raise interest rates until inflation is slain. Many times it leads to a recession but the central bank won't back down.

Its when the central believes it has contained inflation before it begins to reduce interest rates.

You have spoken well. But also lets analyse the concept of stagflation which is predominant in Nigeria

I have seen houses stay unoccupied for Months and rents still remain

My dad in the 80s bought a car for 5000, he later bought a radiator for the same car for 5000

Years back a radiator for a basic saloon toyota costt 30 thousand

Low long term interest rates in strategic sectors like healthcare,, housing, manufacturing would foster economic growth and business expansion and job creation and might also in my opinion help to slighly reduce inflation like if a developer is on 3% interest rate, the houses built would increase the available houses in the market and since there is a longer duration to repay, it can be less pressure

Low interest rates should not apply for consumer credit
The Pros are more than the cons

Growthflation is better than Stagflation
Low interest rates should apply to sectors like
-Manufacturing
-HealthCare
-Producing of items that used to be manufactured overseas
- Technology Substitutes that arw as good
- Healthcare manufacturing
- Domestic Power plants
- Education and training of verified talented individuals in areas of job demand like agriculture, healthcare
- Petroleum refineries

RodgersAkpafu:

This is a very interesting read...
Seems like we have had one or two engagements on twitter before
anyways that aside, this is my perspective sha

Just like you, I'll say that the biggest pro, despite the many ugly sides to spending your formative years in Nigeria is that you learn GRATITUDE and appreciate more, what the west has to offer.

A second generation American or Brit will see the country as his country (which is the norm and expected) and only see the issues and conplain a lot, entitlement may even creep in
but for us that came from literal "hell fire" , we appreciate more what is available in the west and work with it.

You made a reference about the rich in Nigeria and how people think they are criminals.
My fellow Nigerian, take it from me, most "rich" fellows in Nigeria are "criminals" or lemme use a more polite word, rent seekers.

The Nigerian economy is what you call a near imperfect economy, in an economic sense, that means that outlandish economic returns are very much possible, especially when you throw in cronyism and weak institutions in the mix.....
That explains how soneone can out of the blues blow, in Nigeria and say China, than in the west, because as an economy nears perfection, the returns normalise, and the returns tend closer to zero as the economy nears perfection (there is no 100% perfect economy sha, because that will mean zero returns)
My point is the supposed elite class claiming big boys in Nigeria, operating in a space where the economy nears the perfection line exposes their underbelly, so I understand WHY they will think that rich Nigerians are crooks (not all but most) and I side them on that one.

The undertone as to why I say that my descendants have minimum interaction with Nigeria is because the dominant cultural mentality in that space is antithetical to common sense and proper development...
to put it more mildly, I don't agree with it and to be frank that is the major motivation for escaping the country

I strongly believe that burning myself out and sending them to the best schools here like Winchester Eton or one fancy school in Switzerland that i used to admire will be better for them in the long run, as they will make global connections which will better position them for great things in the west , which Nigeria cannot offer let's be frank.

I see my sons as a Kwasi Kwarteng, Sajid Javid, Sunak or Chan...... or even Tidjane Thiam
that's the vision for them....
but for now they are all dreams and that's what I work towards day and night everyday.

the above answers your question about social capital. Going to Eton or Winchester gives you social capital that BIS or Turkish international cannot give.

on a final note, you made mention of the rat race and the debt accumulation that they have.
I wonder why a typical Nigerian who grew up in Nigeria have this kind of antagonist mentality towards debt.
Debt is the number one wealth building tool and has been what have pulled hundreds of millions of folks across the western world and even China out of poverty.
Our aversion to debt is the reason why Africa will remain poor and wretched, because just like a knife that is a good tool, but could kill as well, debt is the same
will you say cos knife can kill, I won't use it ?

On a final note, I can tell that you are a very intelligent person who has some balance.
I wish you the very best out there mehn.

To add to.this

Debt is used by Rich individuals, organisations and companies amd corporations to get money for business projects

Real Madrid FootBall club is expanding their stadium with debt at 1.7 % interest rate per year

Which Nigerian banks would give You that interest rate and give you long term loan

Dangote took loans to build his refinery

Many Nigerian banks borrow money from.overseas to.lend out and do business in Nigeria

Even access bank got foreign money

Any one who.has access to migrate legally and through an indemand skill should do

Any one who can open a business in Africa and legally and honestly generate significant revenue and the accruing profits that beat inflation should do so but keep options open

LocalStandard1:
I will be brief.

One of the reasons for the very high underdevelopment in Nigeria and Africa at large is because of this factor...

When you look at Asia, when you look at Europe, even the middle East. Take a look at every continent and region in the world and you would notice Africa is the only place where the vast majority speak the language of their colonizers.

Frence, English, Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, you name it! Africa is the only continent and Black people are the last race still favently, diligently and fanatically holding on to the language of their supremacist, imperialist, racist colonizers and enslavers, from the Westerners to the Arabs.

Africa has been under siege, Africa has been at war for millenniums and centuries, from the Arabs, the Europeans, Westerners. Africans and Black people are the only group and race of people actively fighting for supremacy and domination of every other races and cultures, even against themselves, for the control and benefit of all the others. The Europeans/Westerners, the Jewish, the Arabs, even as we are beginning to see now for the Asians.

If Nigeria, and by extension, the entirety of Africa and much of the African dominated Caribbean, will start by reverting to our own local languages, first changing what language we think in our minds with, what language we officiate with, what language we plan, scheme and gossip with, we will begin to effect changes to our minds and national planning as it becomes difficult for everyone else outside our own group to decipher and understand what we're doing and by extension sow seeds of discord and confusion. It will give us a sence of self preservation and self interest.

Already every African is largely and generally multilingual, a polyglot, so these changes is already very easy.

Nigeria should completely remove so-called "english" language as our main and official language, Nigeria most make official the three main Languages in Nigeria, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, with pidgin and Swahili as secondary languages.

English, French, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese and all these Western, Arab and non African languages MOST GO. Africa today is the second largest and biggest continent in the world. There are more English speakers today in a single African country than their are all of the British people, there are more French speakers today in a single African country than all the French in France and likewise Portuguese. A Northerner and African Muslim is more loyal to the Middle East and the Arabs than his own country and African people.

Africa and Africans have no self interests as our loyalties, interests and views and self pride and dignity has all been shared up by everyone that has enslaved and colonised us. That is why you're so interested in Palestine, Israel and Western well being, interests, ideology, survival, affairs than your own.

You lack any self preservation and self interest because you do not listen to your indegenous self speak.

Well.let the data speak
