@Ibime
I will admonish you to stop your pontifications. Nothing gives you absolute authority over any issue.
If your ilks are on Sanusi's payroll, then be bold enough to admit it so that we can know what else to address.

@Poster
I have my reservations on Fasheun's comments. I've always known him as someone who gets carried away by certain persuasions. However, interventions like his are sure relief at this time. Why? it is because people are afraid lest Almighty Sanusi decides to "Whip" them by publishing their names on the pages of newspapers as debtors as if it's a sin to borrow from banks, wrongly classify their performing loans as bad and even quoting over-bloated figures against their names.
There can be no predicting Sanusi's dictatorial tendencies and errors of judgment.
Only time will tell.

One of the things that amazes me about Nigeria is how they can get away with publishing wrong/fabricated information without being sued and getting huge compensation for damages. False statements like that can ruin companies in the 1st world, and should not be carelssly made as in Nigeria. The only way that sanity is kept in developed nations is by sanctioning those who slander hard enough for them never to repeat it again. When will we wizen up in the country? How many business deals could have been jeopardized by the wrongly published information?

There is no need to further complicate this issue.
The point here is not which strategy will be most effective to solve this problem, but simply who has the right ingredient to make this dream come true.
I do not care if the solution is solar as an alternative or deregulation as an option, because identifying the solution was never the problem. The problem has always been having an entity with the right mindset in place to accomplish the goal.
And I’m convinced that if we are prepared to finally solve our everlasting electricity problem in Nigeria, a personage like Mike Adenuga should be consulted.
He has the perfect ingredient, he has the will power, he has the right attitude and most of all, he has the leadership skill to design and complete the implementation process that will provide stable electric power supply in Nigeria within a very short period, if he’s given the chance.

If you know anyone else in Nigeria that has proven himself and has similar capability, please feel free to submit the name.

What you have just tried to eloquently type amounts to nothing but gibberish full of contradictions. There are thousands of Nigerians that can do the same if given the chance as you require for Mike Adenuga. You still don't get it. The problem here is the Political will. Let me give you an example here. All the cars in Nigeria are not as many as the cars in the city of Atlanta, Georgia, USA. How do you think fuel importers make money? Don't you know it is basically from generators? Why do you think Bola Ige was killed?

The only solution since progressive Governors are being restrained by the Military created laws of Nigeria is self-empowerment. Nigerians need to undertake permanent solutions that are within the law and their God's given human rights. The best our Governors can do is to create incentives to make it feasible such as low interest loans and property tax breaks. Let's stop going around in circle and tackle the problem head-on.

solar as an alternative to nepa/phcn is not about cheapness. it's about availability
and convienience. what use is a cheap product that is never available?
as we speak, in my area we have been without power close to a month now. in sharp
contrast, over this same period, the sun has never failed. even on cloudy days,
the sun is still up there shining only that the rain clouds prevent its rays from breaking
through. and most days it still shines up to four or five hours-more than enough time
to recharge your battery bank for night use.
so, it is the dependability of alternative sources of power that attracts people to them
not their cheapness. for those that can afford it, the cost is worth the escape from
perpetual darkness at the hands of nepa.

I agree with you my Brother, people will gladly pay 10 times what NEPA/PHCN charges if they will provide power continuously. There is a project that I am developing which I was considering Solar as an option, but now, it will not be an option but a must. I am sure this will make the units much more marketable than without, even with the extra N3.9m that it will cost per unit to have each one independent of water works and nepa/phcn.

@Gbawe and others:

Power problems in Naija can be resolved overnight by deregulating it. Lagos will no-longer have power issues within 6 months of deregulation. How in the world can a system that steals any power that you create to move it to Nothern towns, while you that created it is left without?

Fashola needs to create a solar incentive program in Lagos. he needs to grant 50% of costs for people who choose to be self sufficient via Solar power. I did some homework yesterday in regards to this, and Solar power depreciated over 25 years with the batteries depreciated over 5 years will cost about 9.5 times what we currently pay PHCN at N4.00/KWH. While compared to a generator, using a generator costs us 5.8 times more than Solar. My calculations include 45% extra for the acquisition/shipping costs of solar equipment as compared to purchasing in the United States. If anyone needs this calculations, just send a request to me, and I'll give you the spread sheet.

Glo1 or whatever, all we want is a better service

And we also need not go broke trying to make calls to chase business. In the USA for approximately $35.00 (N5350.00), you can make calls throughout the United States and Puerto Rico 24/7 for free. This is an area much bigger than the whole of West Africa. I challenge Adenuga to take the bold step of copying that model. Glo will become the sole telecom company in Nigeria. I am willing to pay up to N10,000.00/month for unlimited service.

Where else can a submarine cable go through from UK to Nigeria? Suez Canal? lol, we are indeed holding up our names as the joke of the world. Is the population that uneducated that we fall for Nigerian media paid lies? Nitel paid for this cable and it looks like it had been completed since 2005.

Do your own search about the project, and see if you can get any news about the deal and who supplied the cable,  What ship was used to lay the cable, when the submarine geological survey was done, when it was decided it was a feasible project, where divers and survey UAVs were contracted. I know the logistics that it takes to embark on a project like this as well as the infrastructure requirement it takes.

It can never be done without world scrutiny. Now do a search or the media cable one project, and you will find the details that I described.

I was laughing at the picture of guys in suits pulling a cable ashore,  Why has Nigeria decided to be the laughing stock of the world? Was this supposed to authenticate the fact that a cable came ashore? If this project was in the process in 2002 and was owned by Nitel,  How was is sold to Adenuga and when?

Nigeria and Wuru wuru. I knew it!!!!  Here is another scandal brewing. The poster should have never started this thread. come to find out, this was a done deal by NITEL!!!! there was no previous post about this deal prior to the past 1 month except for this, Y'all read for yourself ohhh!!! http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-137391383.html

It is only in Naija that an $800m project will happen without anyone in the world knowing about it until it is finished.

(From BBC Monitoring International Reports)

Excerpt from unattributed report entitled "Ministry, BPE disagree over sale of NITEL submarine cable" by Nigerian newspaper The Guardian website on 10 October

A trans-continental cable, SAT 3, is now threatening the ongoing privatization of the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (Nitel).

The Ministry of Communications and the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) have sharply disagreed over the sale of the SAT 3 cable which belongs to Nitel.

The cable, on which Nitel allegedly spent over 45m dollars in 2002 to co-own with other international consortium of owner-operators, runs through the ,

I get tired of you paid agents of Nigerian politicians and primma donnas. Why must there be any hate involved? What da hell? Do you think a submarine fibre-optic cabling venture is a small thing that noone would have heard about it? Do you know how many hundreds of millions it costs in Dollars? Until I read it from a reputable global Networking or communication magazine, I will not believe it. It is a mere arrangement to ride off the other one while branding as theirs.

And by the way, it is crazy for anyone to say that they will by pass countries along the way where they could land and do their splicing. Do you know how many nautical miles it is from UK to Nigeria and how many countries they go past? Do you know that they go past all the other West African countries to get to Nigeria? Do you know how many feet of cabling can be run in a month? Or did you think it was a project that could be done in 2 weeks?

I won't even try arguing with you guys on this. I undertsand the logistics and infrastructure necessary to embark on such a project. Y'all better go for some geography lessons. One other note, How many submarine cable laying vessels do you think are available in the whole world? D\o you also think submarine capable fibre-optic cables are just sitting at Alaba market waiting to be bought? Even the contract for the cable alone will have been major news in the industry.
Politics / Re: Solution To Everlasting Electricity Failure In Nigeria = Mike Adenuga by larez(m): 8:32pm On Sep 08, 2009
I believe Glo is just trying to brand. There is no way that another submarine cable system will have been built and completed without me knowing about it. I subscribe to too many informational sources not to have heard. Why are Nigerians so gullible? Do you guys think we are all illiterates?

Politics / Re: Almanjeris Take Over Lagos by larez(m): 8:25pm On Sep 08, 2009
For a moment, I was about to say that yes, it is true that most of these people are not actually Nigerians. But guess what? We actually need them in Lagos and should find space to settle them in. These unfortunate folks are truly the hardest workers in Lagos, labour wise. I will advise the Governor to begin to recruit them for job skills and pay them a stipend, so they can be prepared for all the infrastructural construction that Lagos will soon undertake. Hopefully, they will also use the opportunity to build wealth for themselves and better their condition.

No matter how we feel about seeing people in rags and not fitting into our norms, we should still consider that these are indeed flesh and blood like us as well. I am indigenously Lagosian, and I can truly say that in my early years growing up in Lagos, we were never taught to hate outsiders. We are a welcoming people and may have been corrupted recently by some Bush Yoruba people from neighbouring states.

Politics / Re: Alani Akinrinade Demands Sovereign National Conference by larez(m): 8:10pm On Sep 08, 2009
To have a sovereign conference, we need leaders that represent the people. Do we have such leaders left now that Gani has passed? My take will be that the people of that generation should nolonger represent their people. We need people like the younger Lawyer that worked with Gani and other fresh faces. How can people who have enriched themselves within a corrupt system have a moral standing to attempt a new beginning? This will indeed be a farce.
