Politics / Re: Tinubu Inherited A Bleeding, Dead Economy. Buhari Borrowed Massively - Onanuga by lauzun: 9:02am On Jun 17

Daily Post Nigeria
POLITICSFlashback:

How Bola Tinubu spoke highly of Buhari in 2015, named PDP ‘Poverty Development Party

Published on September 1, 2021
By Ochogwu Sunday

National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu had during the presidential campaign in 2015, referred to President Muhammadu Buhari as the only solution for the security and economic challenges facing Nigeria.

During a mega presidential rally, the former governor of Lagos State recalled how some powerful nations in the world returned to army generals when they were challenged, saying “Major General Buhari would revive Nigeria’s economy”.

He named the current opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP as the “Poverty Development Party saying they had nothing to offer.

His words at the time were; “Every nation has a period of their own challenges, when America was challenged, they turned to one great man, their ex-military general, General Eisenhower. When the French were challenged, they turned to their general, Charles de Gaulle.

“When Britain was challenged, they turned to their general. Today, Nigeria is economically and physically challenged so we turn to General Muhammadu Buhari. He is the right man for the job. If you talk about military experience, he has it abundantly, he has courage, simplicity, he has it abundantly.

“If you talk about great determination, a combination of vision and ability to perform, honesty and integrity, he has it abundantly.

“I laugh when the incapable government, ‘Poverty Development Party’ PDP were talking. They have nothing again to say, they now want to question the qualifications of General Buhari and look for his certificate”.

Following the manifestos in 2015 which projected the APC presidential candidate as a ‘saviour’, Buhari defeated the then incumbent president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan with Nigerians expecting a total change in security and economy.

DAILY POST recalls that the Gross Domestic Product, GDP figure in 2015 was $492,437 million which made Nigeria the number 24 in the ranking of GDP of the 196 countries in the world according to the world bank.

Following the current outcry from Nigerians over the hike in prices of commodities, the cost of living in Nigeria prior to the 2015 general elections can be referred to as moderate as a dollar was exchanged for ₦187.952 contrary to the current ₦412.4 to a dollar.

Expectations of the electorates hit the rock when insecurity began to deteriorate despite the campaign promises. It can be recalled that banditry was very unpopular prior to the emergence of the current government.

Also, the activities of Fulani herdsmen which has resorted to killings across the country was at its minimal.

Recall that the Nigerian National Bureau of Statistics said in 2020 that 40% or 83 million Nigerians live in poverty. Although Nigeria’s poverty profile for 2021 has not yet been released, it is estimated that the number of poor people will increase to 90 million, or 45% of the population, in 2022.

The country is currently facing its worst security crisis following the havoc been wreaked across the country by terrorist groups, bandits, herdsmen and other criminal elements.

Instead she was busy flexing muscles with Wike that's far ahead of her.
As useless as the PDP might have become, they're still the only party making some opposition noise in the house. Except for that old man from Delta.

When Jonathan was president, there was nothing that these useless people didn't use to attempt to humiliate him and his government. They entertained no excuses or explanations until they succeeded in removing him.
Now they're in the seat of power and looting to their heart's content, they're bringing different stories and tales to feed Nigerians who have gullible, short-term memories.

Crime / 2 Russian Women Beat Man To Death For Refusing To Have Sex With Them by lauzun: 5:08pm On Jun 12
Two women beat man to death after he refused to have party in cemetery

Two women have been detained in Russia on suspicion of the brutal beating and killing of a man after he refused their request for a party in a cemetery.

The women, Rosa, 29 and Martha, 37, were drinking with 63-year-old Alexander in a churchyard in Stavropol, a city in southwestern Russia. Local reports state that the female friends are accused of unleashing a series of kicks and punches on the man after he refused to have sex with them.

A report citing local police stated they beat him to death in a forest before hiding the body in a hole. The report stated: "They dragged the body into the forest and hid it in a hole." The body was subsequently found and the women detained with a murder case opened. Footage shows one of the women being escorted to the alleged forest crime scene by officers from Russia’s Investigative Committee, who are seen carrying a dummy before laying it in a patch of grass on the forest floor. One of the women is then seen placing her feet on the dummy's torso.

In a statement, the committee said the victim, who was known to both women, was subject to a vicious attack in which they rained down a series of blows with their "fists and feet", hitting his head and torso, before he died on the scene. They said: "In the course of an argument, the women gave the 63-year-old man multiple blows with their fists and feet to his head and torso."

"The victim died at the scene as a result of his injuries. Wishing to avoid responsibility for the offence, the accused dragged the body of the deceased to a wooded area and hid it in a hole." The two women were remanded in custody for two months over the death of the 63-year-old in the cemetery.

Stavropol is several hundred east of Russian-occupied Crimea and was recently the site of what Ukraine claims was a successful drone attack on a Russian aircraft. In April, Ukrainian officials claimed to have shot down a Tu-22M3, a long-range Russian strategic bomber carrying cruise missiles, causing it to crash into the area. But Russian officials told local publication RIA Novosti the incident resulted from a technical hitch.

Travel / Re: Nigerians In UK Lament Accommodation Crisis by lauzun: 12:13pm On Jun 09
GerogeI:

I do not know why, but people always make the mistake of comparing currencies directly. You simply can't.

Your rent in UK might be 1000 GBPs, but you earn on average 3000 pounds per month, meaning you rent is 30% of your earning.

Back here, your average monthly rent will be N200k say you work in VI, and live in Ajah, your salary averages N500k per month, your rent is roughly 40%

Meaning, neither place is better off. The only time you gain from relocation is whatever little savings you make, and decide to invest back home. Whenever you invest back home you take advantage of a colonial economic barrier created by first would countries, through IMF manipulating our usually economic illiterate leaders into thinking there is a fair market value for paper currencies without intrinsic value.

This barrier only serves to create a filtration of best trained workforce from your country to theirs. Cheapen your raw materials, and exclude your local population from international business dominance, innovation and and new product development. You average citizen cannot even afford a local flight, talkless of your SMEs, Academics, and Youths traveling around to learn new things, attend conferences, and trade fares, or bid and compete for opportunities that will add value to your economy. Your country is essentially existing in its local bubble, and not an economic threat to the West or OECD.

So any leader, like Buhari and Tinubu, that deliberately devalues her countries currency has been grossly foolled, and has questionable intellectual capacity. You do not deal with rising forex demand by devaluation, rather by import restriction, and import substitution. You do not measure you economic progress by forex earning, but by real production in your economy.

Rather than give workers higher minimum wage, it's better to revalue your currency ( whesther by redenominating, fixing rates or gold backing) to be within same nominal value as major currencies, and ban import of anything that is being produced locally, or unnecessary luxury consumables such as branded chocolates, clothes, cookies. Focus your import on tools, Machinery and advanced technical materials that are not available locally.

The worst thing that can happen to an economy is the loss of the cream of her work force, and the isolation of her business internationally, and these are the real goals of IMF currency devaluation.

Brother, leave these people. The Black race has been cursed to always act contrary to progressive thinking.

There is a lady I know.
In the run-up to last year's presidential elections, she was a vehement supporter of Tinubu.
She was going everywhere campaigning for him and telling everyone how, at last, Nigeria's "messiah" had arrived.
She rubbished Atiku and Obi at every turn.
"Tinubu, and only Tinubu can Nigeria and give us a country we could be proud of", was her mantra.

I didn't know that this witch was processing her documents to relocate to the UK.
Two days before Tinubu's inauguration last year, she called me that she and her entire family were about leaving Nigeria.
I was dumbfounded. It took all my willpower not to wish her plane to crash.
This woman and her husband had secretly sold all their houses, cars and other possessions to leave, knowing that Tinubu had nothing to offer yet she campaigned vigorously for him.
She ran away from Renewed Shege.

In 1960, we pursued the British away that we wanted our 'independence" from them and we refused to be second-class citizens to them. Some 60 years later, we have our "independence" but now, we are selling our properties and possessions here in Nigeria to run back to Britain and become the second-class citizens which we didn't want to be before.

TV/Movies / Re: Multichoice To Appeal ₦150M Fine By Tribunal by lauzun: 8:56am On Jun 08
Nice one.

Multichoice is a business. Their product prices are largely a reflection of the current state of the economy and ,under APC most especially, the economy has been in the toilet.

People are just being sentimental about this issue (probably because it's a foreign country) but if you're currently doing business in Nigeria, you'd understand how inhospitable the economic climate currently is.

In a country where you have to provide your own infrastructure; uninterrupted power, security, pay rent for premises, pay many multiple taxes, pay staff, and so many other costs of doing business, how do you expect to break even? Where does the government come in to help?

The only thing the useless government is good at is having officials that will still loot the so-called fine like they've been looting all the loans they've been collecting for decades.

God help us in this country.
