Apple would be saying it's farewell to Russia... #BANNED! Apple's famous line of mobile phones and tablets - iPhones and iPads would be banned in Russia starting on New Year's day, this is coming from a report published Tuesday. Apple's CEO - Tim Cook recently came out as being gay and this would seem like one of the "follow-up disasters" of being one's self, but that's not the case here. Russia authorities feel datas stored in Apple's iCloud are not stored within Russia [iCloud is based in US where the Cupertino firm hails from] and this gives them sort-of concern. So, what could the authorities do? They created a new law which prohibits the Sales of Apple devices which houses the iCloud software. Though the law is not specifically targetted at Apple inc for Tim Cook's "gayness", as it applies to all online services including social networks but it's definitely set to rock Apple's quarterly earnings. Apple could put up a server farm in the country, but that would probably be a bad precedent for the tech titan. Russia could even decide to enforce the ban at the retail level, which also would be bad for Apple. Those in Russia who currently own an iPhone or iPad that supports iCloud, might have to put up with relentless searches from the authorities. So the big question now is, WHAT NEXT APPLE? http://www.techiedup.com/2014/11/apple-ipads-iphones-would-be-banned-in-russia-from-2015-but-its-not-for-tim-being-gay/ |

Liverpool fans had a chance to live out the ultimate European away day in Madrid after being deprived of Champions League football in recent years, but local police weren't in the mood to let them kick their balls around like they own the place. Plaza Mayor was where the traveling supporters congregated in large numbers before kick-off against Real Madrid, drawing the attention of Madrid cops who apparently do not enjoy balls flying around in the square. So what did they decide was best? Simple, confiscate the ball and end the street soccer. They decided to try and confiscate the offending object, which started an impromptu game of keep away. However, one fan to kicked the ball away from the bumbling cops just before they could snatch it away. And for continuing their embarrassment, they arrested.him. Though the police couldn't dampen the mood of Liverpool fans who made the trip to Spain, Brendan Rodgers certainly did when he released his weakened starting XI for the match. Confirmed: #LFC ’s starting XI and substitutes. — Liverpool FC (@LFC) November 4, 2014 This decision made it clear that Rodgers is more concerned about facing Chelsea in the Premier League at the weekend than trying to take points against a team that beat them 3-0 at Anfield last month. It also prompted many to call for refunds. The Liverpool fan who got arrested might actually have a better day than those who made it into the Bernabeu. http://gistscrib.com/liverpool-fan-arrested-for-making-cops-chase-a-ball/ |

A notorious one-armed rapist has been sentenced to a massive 315 years in protective custody, without parole. Durban, South Africa - The five-year reign of terror of a one-armed rapist – one of KZN’s most wanted criminals – has ended with a massive 315-year prison sentence. Mhlonishwa Elias Mathebula’s right arm had been amputated below the elbow when he was a child – the result of being electrocuted. But this did not prevent him stalking and raping 18 victims, aged from 14 to 40. “He is extremely strong, agile and quick on his feet,” police spokesman, Colonel Jay Naicker, said. Mathebula, 33, proved elusive during his rape rampage on the South Coast and police likened him to a “springbok”’ as he never stayed in one place for long. “Even with the assistance of SAPS Crime Intelligence, an active and efficient informer network, tip-offs from the public and help from our NGO crime-fighting partners, Mathebula, one of the most wanted criminals, managed to escape the net that had been repeatedly cast around him,” Naicker said. A task team comprising the SAPS Port Shepstone tactical Response and the Port Shepstone Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual offences Unit worked to track down and arrest Mathebula. And on Friday, Mathebula – described by a psychologist as “a danger to society” – was finally put behind bars. He received nine life sentences and 90 years after pleading guilty in the Scottburgh Regional Court to 18 counts of rape. Magistrate SS Maboee said the court had to consider the rights of women to free movement and the abuse against women in the country. Mathebula was declared unfit to possess a firearm, his name was entered on to the National Register of Sex Offenders and he was declared unsuitable to work with children. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed the conviction. “It views this sentence as appropriate given the harsh and heinous crimes that were committed,” said NPA spokeswoman Natasha Kara. She said that from 2008-2013, Mathebula accosted females on the South Coast, mainly Umzinto, Hibberdene, Dududu and Msinsi. “He targeted women in the early morning as they made their way to either school or work and he would drag them into the nearby sugar cane fields and rape and assault them. http://gistscrib.com/wtf-notorious-one-armed-rapist-sentenced-to-315years/ |

Hunger drives Sierra Leoneans on rampage, dismantle quarantine measures. A group of aid agencies says that thousands of people in Sierra Leone are being forced to violate Ebola quarantines to find food because deliveries are not reaching them. In order to prevent the spread of Ebola, large swaths of the West African country have been sealed off and within those areas many people have been ordered to stay in their homes. The government, with help from the U.N.'s World Food Program, is tasked with delivering food and other services to those people. But Jeanne Kamara of Christian Aid in Sierra Leone said Tuesday that there are many "nooks and crannies" in the country that are being missed. Her agency and others that belong to the Disasters Emergency Committee umbrella organization are trying to fill the gaps. http://gistscrib.com/ebola-thousands-dismantle-quarantine-to-seek-food/ |

Shocked father of slain girl put in a brief-case by British citizen in Hong kong says “it’s fate”. The father of one of the women found murdered in the Hong Kong flat of a British banker has said he was left stunned by news of her brutal death. “I was told she was killed, mutilated and packaged into a suitcase. What can you do – this is fate,” Ahmad Kaliman told BBC Indonesian. Sumarti Ningsih, 23, was one of two Indonesian women found dead in the flat of Rurik Jutting. On Monday he was remanded in custody after being charged with their murders. Some reports suggest the women were sex workers at the time of their death, but at least one of them is believed to have earlier worked as a domestic helper in Hong Kong. From his village in central Java, Mr Kaliman told BBC Indonesian he believed the death penalty should be handed down to her killer and called for her body to be returned to the family. “I ask the government of Indonesia to help me return my daughter to me. She was an Indonesian citizen. Please help return her body as soon as possible.” Ms Ningsih’s parents said they were informed of her death late on Monday night – three days after news of the murders emerged. They said she travelled to Hong Kong on a tourist visa about two months ago and their last contact was on 15 October. “She called me and asked me how the family was. Sumarti also said she would return on 2 November to Indonesia. When she didn’t return… I sent her an SMS, but it wasn’t delivered,” Mr Kaliman said. He believed she worked in a restaurant. BBC Indonesian was also told more about the second murder victim, Seneng Mujarsi, 29, who was also known as Jesse, by a friend of both the victims. “When I first met Jesse in HK she was working as a sex worker,” the friend, who works as a cleaner in Bali, said.”Jesse didn’t want to become a sex worker, neither did the second girl. But Jesse needed to send moneyvback to her family in Indonesia and help to build a house for her mother,” she said. On Monday, 29-year-old Mr Jutting, appeared during a brief court hearing at Eastern Magistrates’ Court. Asked if he understood the charges against him, Mr Jutting, who grew up in Chertsey in Surrey, replied: “I do.” He had resigned from a job at Bank of America Merrill Lynch a week ago. An automatic reply left on his work email read: “I am out of the office. Indefinitely. For urgent enquiries, or indeed any enquiries, please contact someone who is not an insane psychopath.” He is believed to be a Cambridge University graduate. Winchester College, an independent boarding school in Hampshire, confirmed he had been a student there. |

New York City: Thirteen years after the 9/11 terrorist attack, the resurrected World Trade Centre is again opening for business – marking an emotional milestone for both New Yorkers and the United States as a whole. Publishing giant Conde Nast will start moving Monday into One World Trade Center, a 104- story, $3.9 billion skyscraper that dominates the Manhattan skyline. It is America’s tallest building. It’s the centerpiece of the 16-acre site where the decimated twin towers once stood and where more than 2,700 people died on Sept. 11, 2001, buried under smoking mounds of fiery debris. “The New York City skyline is whole again, as One World Trade Center takes its place in Lower Manhattan,” said Patrick Foye, executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey that owns both the building and the World Trade Center site. He said One World Trade Centre “sets new standards of design, construction, prestige and sustainability; the opening of this iconic building is a major milestone in the transformation of Lower Manhattan into a thriving 24/7 neighborhood.” With construction fences gone and boxes of office equipment in place, Conde Nast CEO Chuck Townsend planned to walk Monday into what Foye calls “the most secure office building in America.” Only about 170 of his company’s 3,400 employees are moving in now, filling five floors of the tower, said Patricia Rockenwagner, a Conde Nast vice president and spokeswoman. About 3,000 more will arrive by early 2015. The building is 60-percent leased, with another 80,000 square feet (7,400 sqare meters) going to the advertising firm Kids Creative, the stadium operator Legends Hospitality, the BMB Group investment adviser, and Servcorp, a provider of executive offices. The government’s General Services Administration signed up for 275,000 square feet (25,000 square meters), and the China Center, a trade and cultural facility, will cover 191,000 square feet (18,000 square meters). From the northeast corner of the site, the tower overlooks the National September 11 Memorial & Museum built in the footprints of the twin towers. Its stated aim is to honor those who perished on that sunny September morning. For years, the grisly pit where workers found mostly body parts was dubbed the “ground zero” of the aerial terror attack. Now, the illuminated spire of One World Trade Centre serves as a beacon to planes that fly over the city, seemingly at eye level with the high rise’s open rooftop. The view stretches from Manhattan to the Statue of Liberty into New Jersey and Connecticut and all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. At night, the incandescent steel-and-glass behemoth can be seen from vessels in New York Harbor approaching Manhattan. An observation deck eventually will be open to the public. The eight-year construction of the 1,776-foot (541-meter) -high skyscraper came after years of political, financial and legal infighting that threatened to derail the project. The bickering slowly died down as two other towers started going up on the southeast end of the site: the now completed 4 World Trade Center whose anchor tenant is the Port Authority, and 3 World Trade Center that’s slowly rising. The spirit of renewal did not quash memories of the horrific act of terror, but the area has prospered in recent years beyond anyone’s imagination. About 60,000 more residents now live there – three times more than before 9/11 – keeping streets, restaurants and shops alive even after Wall Street and other offices close for the day. Still, it’s a bittersweet victory, one achieved with the past in mind as the architects created One World Trade Centre. T.J. Gottesdiener of the Skidmore, Owings & Merrill firm that produced the final design told The Associated Press that the high-rise was built with steel-reinforced concrete that makes it as terror attack-proof as possible. He said the firm went beyond the city’s existing building codes to achieve that. “We did it, we finally did it,” he said. http://gistscrib.com/after-13-years-world-trade-centre-re-opens/ 1 Like |

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) – President Barack Obama and his entourage were switching to a different plane for his return trip to Washington on Sunday because of a minor flap issue with the Presidential aircraft, dubbed Air Force One, that flew them earlier in the day, a spokesman said. “While in Philadelphia, we have transferred to a backup airplane due to a minor mechanical problem with one of the aircraft’s flaps,” White House spokesman Eric Schultz said. “This switch to a backup C-32 will not affect our schedule.” Any plane that carries the president maintains the name Air Force One. Obama traveled to Connecticut earlier on Sunday for a campaign rally before flying to Pennsylvania for another campaign event ahead of Tuesday’s midterm elections. http://gistscrib.com/us-president-barack-obama-swaps-plane-after-minor-flap-problem/ |

Los Angeles, California: A young American woman with terminal cancer has committed suicide, following promises to do so that had triggered shock and controversy over the right to die. Brittany Maynard, a 29-year-old brain cancer sufferer, made headlines earlier this month when a video of her making her suicide threat went viral and was seen by millions of Web users. “Goodbye to all my dear friends and family that I love. Today is the day I have chosen to pass away with dignity in the face of my terminal illness, this terrible brain cancer that has taken so much from me… but would have taken so much more,” she wrote in a message circulated widely on social media. “The world is a beautiful place, travel has been my greatest teacher, my close friends and folks are the greatest givers. I even have a ring of support around my bed as I type… Goodbye world. Spread good energy. Pay it forward!” In January, Maynard was given six months to live and told her death would be painful because of the aggressive nature of her cancer. She had been trying for a first child with her husband Dan Diaz at the time, but gave up due to her disease. Maynard and her husband, who had just married when she began having severe headaches, moved from their home in California to Oregon, one of a handful of US states with a “right-to-die” law. A doctor could therefore prescribe her the medication she needs to end her own life, surrounded by her family in the bedroom she shares with her husband. On Thursday, she had released a new video in which she said she might temporarily delay her appointment with a self administered cocktail of potentially deadly drugs. But the delay was a short one. Her story has made headlines around the world, and she was featured on the cover of last week’s People magazine in the United States. Maynard has in recent weeks and months been working to tick off items on a “bucket list” of what she wants to do before she dies — including traveling to the Grand Canyon last week http://gistscrib.com/29year-old-woman-with-brain-cancer-commits-suicide/ |

How would you feel if you could be re-united with your old favorite feature phones Nokia 3310 (Ironman) and Ericsson T28? Curved labs, a german website thought about “re- imagining” the Nokia 3310 and Ericsson T28 and came out with pretty impressive results. Smart Nokia 3310 running Windows Phone and it’s Ericsson T28 counterpart running Android OS Curved.de didn’t just re-imagine the devices running on smart OS, they toyed around the devices and produced a smart Ericsson T28 with Android OS and a Nokia 3310 with Windows Phone OS, huge monochrome display and fancy Lumia looks! Instead of the superfluous keypad they extended the T28’s screen downwards. Now it gives enough space for apps, widgets and the established navigation bar of the Android OS. The display’s curvature, made necessary by the front cover, is made possible by the use of flexible display glass. And the upper half of the screen shows the time, date and battery status when the cover is closed. Naturally, there is a front camera for the inevitable selfie now and then. We re-imagined Nokia’s 3310 in two versions: once with a gigantic, curved monochrome display and another one with a color screen and the looks of current Lumia devies. Both models carry Nokia’s now characteristic huge camera unit on their backs, in our case it contains of course the top-notch 41 megapixel- module. So, what’s your opinion about these smart versions of the T28 and the 3310? Would these devices have convinced you 15 years ago, to use a smartphone? http://www.techiedup.com/2014/11/nokia-3310-re-made-to-a-windows-phone/ |

Apple’s find my iPhone helped saved a woman who had an accident, was ejected from her car during the turmoil and was stranded in a 500-foot ravine. find my iphone Melissa Vasquez was ejected from her car following an auto accident, and was missing for 17 hours when a Campbell police Officer Cameron saved her after a series of search. The drama began on Monday at 2pm when the OnStar monitor in the car detected an accident. Two of the tires on the vehicle were ripped off the automobile. OnStar first reported that the incident took place at Highway 17 and Camden Avenue, but cops who responded could not find any remnants of an accident. Later in the afternoon, OnStar updated the location of the vehicle to downtown San Jose, but cops still could not find the accident. Luckily, Campbell police officer is somewhat of a “tech geek” and when he searched Vasquez’s home and found an iPad, he realized he could use Find My iPhone to track down the missing woman’s location. But to do that, he would have to guess at the passcode. The officer said that he made an “educated guess” based on common numbers that are often used for passwords. Amazingly, on the third try, he cracked the code. Turning on the phone’s location finder, Officer Cameron was able to get a read on her location. Twenty minutes after being discovered face first in the ground, but alive, Vasquez was airlifted in a Coast Guard chopper. Meanwhile, score one for Apple’s Find My iPhone against the OnStar system. OnStar is investigating why its system failed. http://www.techiedup.com/2014/10/apples-find-iphone-helps-cop-save-womans-life/ 1 Like

Scientists have treated a man they believe to be the first patient with internet addiction disorder brought on by overuse of Google Glass. The man had been using the technology for around 18 hours a day – removing it only to sleep and wash – and complained of feeling irritable and argumentative without the device. In the two months since he bought the device, he had also begun experiencing his dreams as if viewed through the device’s small grey window. The existence of internet addiction disorder linked to conventional devices such as phones and PCs is hotly debated among psychiatrists. It was not included as a clinical diagnosis in the 2013 update to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, the official reference guide to the field, and many researchers maintain that its effects are merely symptoms of other psychological problems. But Dr Andrew Doan, head of addictions and resilience research at the US navy’s Substance Abuse and Recovery Programme (Sarp) and co-author of the paper on the patient, published in the journal Addictive Behaviours, says people are clearly suffering from problems related to internet addiction, and it is only a matter of time before the research and treatments catch up. “People used to believe alcoholism wasn’t a problem – they blamed the person or the people around them,” Doan said. “It’s just going to take a while for us to realise that this is real.” The patient – a 31-year-old US navy serviceman – had checked into the Sarp in September 2013 for alcoholism treatment. The facility requires patients to steer clear of addictive behaviours for 35 days – no alcohol, drugs, or cigarettes – but it also takes away all electronic devices. Doctors noticed the patient repeatedly tapped his right temple with his index finger. He said the movement was an involuntary mimic of the motion regularly used to switch on the heads-up display on his Google Glass. He said he was “going through withdrawal from his Google Glass”, Doan explained, adding: “He said the Google Glass withdrawal was greater than the alcohol withdrawal he was experiencing.” He said the patient used Google Glass to improve his performance at work, where he was able to quicken his job of making inventories of convoy vehicles for the navy. By the time the patient checked into the facility, he was suffering from involuntary movements, cravings, memory problems and dreaming as if he was wearing the glasses. When he was not wearing them he felt irritable and argumentative. Some of this, says Doan, may be because a wearable device is constantly there – so the neurological reward associated with using it is constantly accessible. “There’s nothing inherently bad about Google Glass,” Doan said. “It’s just that there is very little time between these rushes. So for an individual who’s looking to escape, for an individual who has underlying mental dysregulation, for people with a predisposition for addiction, technology provides a very convenient way to access these rushes. “And the danger with wearable technology is that you’re allowed to be almost constantly in the closet, while appearing like you’re present in the moment.” There is considerable disagreement among psychologists over whether the addictive use of technology is a disorder in its own right or simply a symptom of other problems. “I think what you will find is it can be both – it can be the primary problem that an individual develops that then leads to more problems, or the symptom of other problems like personality disorders,” said Daria Kuss, who researches internet addiction at Nottingham Trent University and published a comprehensive review of research into the issue earlier this year. Certainly, the US navy patient was suffering from underlying mental problems, including depression, social anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder. Kuss’s review concluded that reported cases of internet addiction were on the rise, but that more research was needed before clinicians could properly diagnose and treat patients suffering from it. Similarly, while internet addiction was omitted from the 2013 update to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, it was included in the appendix as a disorder requiring further study. To date, the only addiction not related to substance abuse included in the manual is gambling. The outcome for the patient appears to have been good. After his 35 days at SARP, he said he felt less irritable, was making fewer compulsive movements to his temple, and his short-term memory had improved. He was released and referred to a 12-step programme for his alcohol abuse issues, and was hopeful about his recovery. Doan and his colleagues have yet to hear back from him. Google declined a request for a comment. http://www.theguardian.com/science/2014/oct/14/google-glass-user-treated-addiction-withdrawal-symptoms |

Generally, technology is evolving, moving faster than was expected in 10years ago. This is actually the era of tech and mobile tech is the peak of the achievements in technological advancements. nano tech batteriesThe big news is Nanyang Technology University is developing Lithium ion batteries with a life-span of about 20 years and can charge for only 2 minutes to get to 70%. An almost impossible feat, but this is achieved by speeding up the chemical reactions inside the battery. The battery uses titanium dioxide nanotubes anode against the graphite anode, and this nanotubes offer 10,000 charging cycles as opposed to the usual 500. The titanium tubes are also cheap and easy to make. The titanium dioxide nanotube batteries have been licensed and production could roll in pretty soon with estimates putting the shipping schedule for the batteries at 2016. “The titanium batteries would be a big save for electric cars not just mobile phones, as it could save hours and hours of waiting and thus avoid replacing a very expensive component before you’re ready to replace the vehicle itself.” notes Endaget’s Jon Fingas. http://www.techiedup.com/2014/10/battery-last-20years-after-charge/ 2 Likes |

Do the big G really care about your health? Seems so, but not really, as Google adds a new feature to let you chat with a doctor if you are searching for a health related issue. Google Care? The search giant is fixing up a feature that sets up a video chat with doctors when you search for health related symptoms. This is because Google feels, when you search for health related symptoms, instead of putting your mind at rest, you could end up getting more confused from mis-diagnosis of all the write-ups you read on the internet. How Google plans to deal with this is pretty unclear, but it’s in the works. And Google says it is covering the costs of any chats during the “trial phase” which probably means you’ll likely have to pay for virtual appointments if and when the service is ever ready for prime time, though, it could be cheaper than physical consultations. http://www.techiedup.com/2014/10/google-video-chat-doctor/

A San Antonio-based company called Xenex has risen to media prominence recently thanks to their ultraviolet pulse robot called Little Moe. The robot can enter and clean a hospital room in five minutes and destroy the virus by fusing its DNA. You can watch the cute local news piece about the below. The technology isn’t particularly new. It works by flashing surfaces with ultraviolet light which in turn damages viral DNA. It uses a particularly bright type of xenon lamp that can “can penetrate and damage organisms in unique ways.” Sadly the robot doesn’t move itself through the hospital like a virus-destroying Roomba. Instead, you place the robot in a room, set up the room type and number, and arm the robot. It then raises its pulsing and starts firing UV light into the room. Medical robotics is a big business and it is changing daily. While telemedicine and the like get all the ink, robots like Little Moe are important because they do one thing and they do it very well, in this case room disinfection. And if a cute name and an Ebola scare are what it takes to move medical science forward, I’m all for it. http://techcrunch.com/2014/10/03/little-moe-is-a-robot-that-hunts-and-kills-ebola/

HTC would be holding a press statement sometime around 8th of October but some pre-press leaks of a similar build and probably specs of the previous HTC One M8 called HTC One M8 or the HTC Eye or if I may, HTC One Eye – did somebody say cyclops? may be unveiled during their October 8th press briefing. HTC One M8 The HTC One Eye, sorry HTC M8 Eye as we hear from phonearena would come with a close resemblance to the previous M8 but a difference in inches and probably camera. The phone was rumored as a version of the HTC One (M8) in which the 4MP ultrapixel Duo camera is replaced with a 13MP Duo Camera. As we said before, the M8 Eye and the previous M8 would have same kind of specs but just a revamped and better camera and a bigger 5.2″ screen. http://www.techiedup.com/2014/10/htc-one-might-fraternal-twin-called-htc-eye-htc-m8-eye/ |

Taking a stroll down the portable computer lineage of tablets but don’t know what to get between the iOS, Windows and Android OS’s? We’ll be giving you useful tips on why we favor Android out of the three OS’s. In as much as the Google’s own operating system has it’s flaws, here’s why we believe you should get yourself an Android OS tablet. Android Tablet Coming down from the shady ages of laggy pcs, their bogus builds and no apps support, Google’s open-source operating system, Android OS has been out there with the likes of Dell, Toshiba fronting the coy. With the development of smarter display and improved performance, varieties of apps and the likes, more coy’s have opted to produce loads and loads of tablets and smartphones running on the OS. Though Apple’s own tablets – iPads – remain choice favorite of a millions of people owing to varying reasons, and Microsoft’s Windowns OS (surface pro tablets and it’s brethens) has it’s own target audience in the likes of business execs as they are the only truely useful laptop replacement business tablets. So the big question now is : Why should you favor an Android over others? Must read : Super-cheap Android Tablets You Should Own. We’ll be giving you 5 + 1 reasons we believe you should get that Android Tablet and as an after thought, 2 + 1 reasons why you might decide to do otherwise and favor other OS. 5 + 1 Reasons Why You Should Favor Android OS For Your Tablet Needs. => Pricing : This is pretty much the most important factor and usually the first determinant on purchasing. How much you have to spend for your tablet. Android OS being open-source has a ton of different producers producing same type of products leading to competition and thus massive price slash on most tablets. So if you are looking for where there is competition and a reduction in price, go the Android tablet way. => Varieties and more varieties! : Unlike the Apple iPads which are the only tablets running on Apple’s iOS and Microsoft Surface which are the only popular brand running on Windows OS on tablets, Android tablets makers are spread about with the likes of Samsung and it’s Galaxy Note series, Google / Motorola and Nexus, popular Chinese brands like Ainol, Cube etc, all running Android OS, so you have several options to choose from. => Universal Everything! : Ever wanted to charge your iPad but ti refused the charger citing it as fake, even when it is the original in-box charger of one of your devices say your Smartphone? Well, Android tablets offer you the ability to use your phone cables and cords, etc without limitations. So why stress yourself? => Latest OS Updates are Cool : All the way from the naming to the little additions in the new versions are super cool.
