Dude,Phase 1 is about 80% complete.Phase 2 is close to 30% currently. Are u claiming the remaining 20% of phase 1 needs over a billion to been completed? What is your problem anyway?

FYI,the government took a loan for phase 2! And the money is from dernmark and swiss government not standard charted. Your standard charted just orchestrated the whole deal. And I think its none of ya business if we take loans for development projects
That's how you lack info about your government, you don't even know the exact amount borrowed and where, you better go on with your paparazzi business

Kazikazi they can't believe the height TZ is rolling on..
Only those who doesn't know TZ will believe those bullshit ,the so called electric train is just 300km for now, just last week TZ took a loan from standard chartered bank to complete it.
The rest of SGR is still very far, don't be deceived with those pictures of selected parts of CBD,it still lags behind in terms of infrastructure and everything but its better than how they were 5 years ago.

Tanzania now catches up with Kenya in infrastructure projects grin grin grin

The Africa Construction Trends Report (2019) by Consultancy firm Deloitte released in January, shows that both Kenya and Tanzania recorded g 51 projects in 2019. Tanzania’s total share of projects by value is 41.2% (US$60.3bn), making it the largest contributor
towards East Africa’s total project value.

Although Kenya has one of the most valuable infrastructure projects in the pipeline, the country accounts for only 24.6% (US$36bn) of the region’s total project value.

Overall the total number of projects in East Africa rose by 30.9% between
2018 and 2019, with the region currently recording 182 projects under construction.

Now east Africa countries;Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Tanzania and Uganda n accounts for 40.3% of projects across the continent and 29.5% of the value.

The total value of construction projects increased by 67.6% between 2018 and 2019, from US$87bn to US$146bn. The increase stemmed from investments in large infrastructure projects within the Transport and Oil & Gas sectors, such as Phase II of the Kenya Standard Gauge Railway Project and Tanzania’s new Likong’o-Mchinga LNG plant. The LNG plant, worth US$30bn, has become the most valuable project in the region.

The Transport sector continues to take the lead within the sectoral break down by value. The sector accounted for 30% (US$44bn) of the region’s total projects by value, followed by Oil & Gas (27.5%) and then the Energy & Power (20.9%) sectors.

East Africa has encountered several transport infrastructure challenges in the past years, thus making Transport investments a priority to ensure a reliable transportation network. As a result, the sector recorded the highest number of projects (69 projects out of 182), followed by the Energy & Power sector with 40 projects (22%) and Real Estate with 35 projects (19.2%).

The high number of transport projects came from investments in rail, road and airport projects. Numerous East African-based airports have launched expansion projects to cater for the rapidly growing passenger and cargo traffic volumes.

One of these airport expansion plans, currently under construction, is the Bole International Airport Expansion Project in Ethiopia, will make Ethiopia the largest airport aviation hub in Africa.35 Such cross-border infrastructure projects demonstrate East Africa’s commitment to boost regional integration.

Owned by government
Projects in East Africa are mainly owned by Government (79.1%), while Private Domestic companies own 6.6%. Various East African governments have played a significant role in boosting infrastructure development.

This has occurred from country-specific as well as regional developmental policy initiatives such as the East African Community (EAC) Development Strategy. The EAC Development Strategy aims to support East Africa in becoming a competitive and sustainable lower middle income region by 2021, and also highlights infrastructure development as one of its regional priorities.

Funding
East Africa relies on external funding for most infrastructure projects. The region’s project funding is dominated by China (20.9%; down from 25.9% last year), while Governments account for 13.7% of total funding.

International and African DFIs also play a significant role in East Africa’s project funding, accounting for 13.2% and 12.6%, respectively. Ongoing and upcoming regional infrastructure projects have attracted various development financiers.

The African Development Bank (AfDB), for example, has shown interest by introducing the East Africa Regional Integration Strategy Paper (EA RISP), which outlines a roadmap to accelerate regional integration through infrastructure development over a five-year period (2018-22).
Tz are busy copy pasting Kenyan Projects, learning from the best.

You are right.Kenya has minerals ( or natural resourses)but not as much as the likes of DRC or Angola.
Kenya has
Coal
Iron ores
Oil
Kaolins
Gold
Geothermal
Fluorspar
Soda ash
Niobiums
Etc.

Kenya mining sector is picking up gradually,Kenya is currently putting up the biggest steel manufacturing plant in terms of capacity at the coast -outside SA for iron ore to be completed end of 2020.there is also large Titanium mining in and processing in North coast which is already in export market.

Nairobi has the most English proficient speakers in the continent according to a new study.

Nairobi’s English proficiency, according to the English Proficiency Index 2019, is in the high proficiency band at 61.94 per cent, the highest for any African city at the time the survey was conducted.

The EPI index, which ranked 100 countries and regions, reported that only two African cities; Nairobi and Lagos, which scored 58.47, are in the high proficiency band.

About 13 African countries participated in the survey.

Globally, Kenya’s English language skills ranked 18th, the second highest in the continent, after South Africa that ranked sixth in the world. Nigeria and Ethiopia ranked 29th and 63rd respectively while Libya ranked the lowest.

The 2019 index saw eight new entrants in the survey namely Kenya, Sudan, Ivory Coast Bahrain, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Nepal and Paraguay.

VERY LOW

Africa’s average proficiency score dropped, primarily due to score changes in South Africa and Ethiopia and to the inclusion of Sudan and Cameroon which both fall in the ‘very low’ proficiency band the report said.

Another key finding of the report was that the English proficiency gender gap is closing. In 2018, womens’ average English level was higher than men’s worldwide and in a majority of countries.

But in 2019, women outscored men by less than one point in Africa, Asia and Europe

The scores are achieved through analysing results from 2.3 million adults who took an online English test in 2018 via EF Standard English Test.

Authors of the EPI report also found a correlation between high English proficiency and various indicators of economic competitiveness, including higher income and increased labor productivity.

While there’s no evidence that English proficiency directly drives economic success, the authors of the report say that the complex relationship between language skills and economic growth is that; greater wealth facilitates more English training, and English skills help economies stay competitive hence highlighting the role that English plays in broader schemes for economic growth.

DRY UP

“We consistently find a correlation between ease of doing business and a country’s English proficiency, as well as speaking English and a range of logistics-related indicators, said Kate Bell, a co-author of the survey.

The study further found a correlation between English proficiency and a country’s service exports as well as the value added per worker in services.
