Phones / How To Fix "Application Not Installed" Error On An Android Phone by loyanet(m): 2:20pm On Jul 14, 2014

If youre an app maniac then you should have encountered the Application not installed error while installing apps at one point or another; but, dont get me wrong, even people who hardly install apps could encounter this error too. This issue is sometimes accompanied by a mount error in recovery mode where you get unable to mount Data, Cache, System, SD card etc partition errors while attempting to wipe the Android phone or flash a ROM. Resolving this issue is easy once you are able to diagnose and identify the culprit.
Could my phone be infected with a Virus or Malware?
Quite possible. In many cases like this where a virus or malware is involved, youll usually end up with a corrupted storage partition, and guess what! A corrupted storage partition is the most common cause of the Application not installed error. The possible virus or malware attack is however not serious enough for you to format / wipe your Android phone so dont delete all your precious files out of a panic attack.
While installing an app on my tecno M3 phone, i get an error saying I am not allowed to install applications from unknown sources, what does this mean?
For security reasons, your Android phone is set to only install applications from the trusted Google Playstore. You can however disable this setting by going to Settings > Security > Ticking Unknown sources.
What could cause / result in the Application not installed error?
The most common causes of this error are:
Corrupted phone storage / SD card: This is the most common cause of this error. If the location where an application is supposed to be installed has been corrupted, it only means therell be no place to install the app doesnt it?
Insufficient storage space: There might not be sufficient storage space to accommodate the new app
Corrupted app (apk file): The apk file (Android apps are in .apk format just like Blackberrys .jad or Windowss .exe) might be corrupted or incompletely downloaded / copied.
Permission error: The Android phone might be going through a permission crisis.
Temporary OS glitch: The Android OS might have encountered a minor error.
Apk signed certificate clash: Trying to install another version of an app (with a different signed certificate) on the same phone will result in this error.
Installing an unsigned apk: Trying to install an unsigned apk could result in this error.
Wrong app installation location: Some apps will only be successfully installed on phone memory while others can be installed on both phone memory and SD card. Trying to install the former on SD card could result in this error.
Installing on a mounted SD card: Trying to install an app on a mounted SD card will result in this error because the SD card is inaccessible
Unacceptable apk name: Renaming some apk files prior to installation has been known to result in this error
How do I fix the Application not installed error on an Android phone?
A number of fixes to apply are:
Reboot the phone: Rebooting the Android phone could help clear OS errors that might have occurred.
Check the SD card for errors and fix if required ( See How to fix / repair corrupt memory card, SD card or USB drive http://www.benueloaded.com/tutorials/showtopic.php?id=25[).
Format the SD card: In extreme cases, move the contents on the memory card to a different location then format it.
Wipe the phone: In extreme cases, wiping the phone could resolve this issue. You could either do a factory reset under Settings or data / factory reset in recovery mode.
Double-check the apk file: Check to be sure the apk file was properly copied / downloaded and is the correct size.
Reset permissions: Try resetting app permissions (Settings > Apps > All > Menu key > Reset application permissions )
Uninstall any previous versions on the same app currently installed on the Android phone.
Change Installation location: You could toggle application install location between phone memory, SD card and automatic.
Ensure that the SD card in not mounted / connected to a PC
Avoid installing unsigned apks or changing apk file names prior to installation.
How can i verify that this issue has been successfully resolved?
Simply by installing an app!

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / How Man Utd Won Their 20th Crown by loyanet(m): 11:44pm On Apr 23, 2013
How Man Utd won their 20th crown

Manchester United won their 20th Barclays
Premier League title on Monday with an emphatic
3-0 win against Aston Villa thanks to a Robin van
Persie hat-trick.

August 25 -- Following a wobbly start against Everton five days
earlier, Man United tuned their title campaign into gear with a
nervous 3-2 victory against Fulham at Old Trafford. Goals from new
signing Robin van Persie, Kagawa and Da Silva did the job.
September 2 -- Van Persie was really on fire here as he blasted a hat-
trick against Southampton at St Mary's Stadium. The victory was all
the more memorable as United had to come back from a goal down,
not once but twice.
September 15 -- A well-oiled Man United machine was now running
at full throttle as they flattened Wigan 4-0 -- their biggest win of the
season so far. Veteran Scholes, Hernandez, Buttner and Powell
provided the goals.
September 23 -- There is nothing as a sweet as victory on enemy
grounds. United left Anfield with maximum points thanks to a 2-1 win ,
courtesy of Da Silva and Van Persie. Another come-from-behind
performance by Sir Alex’s men.
October 7 -- Following a minor snag (3-2 loss) at home against Spurs,
United went to Sports Direct Arena where they smashed Newcastle 3-0
to get the campaign back on track. Messieurs Evans, Evra and
Cleverley did the damage.
October 28 -- Never mind the 4-2 win against Stoke eight days prior,
the 3-2 win against title hopefuls Chelsea was to become the highlight
of the month for the Red Devils. It was a hard-fought, energy-sapping
feat as they almost gave away a comfortable 2-0 first-half lead to
allow the Blues back into the match. Hernandez’ 74th minute strike
secured the points. Other goals came through Luiz (own goal) and Van
Persie. More crucial was that the Blues took long to recover from this
defeat as they went to a six-match winless streak. United were now
making serious inroads in winning the title.
November 3 -- It’s sweet to get one over Arsenal and the 2-1 home
victory was to add more points in the fight to annex the 20th league
title.
November 10 -- Being 2-0 down after 49 minutes, it must have
suddenly dawned on United that a Villa Park defeat could seriously
hamper their title aspirations. Hernandez struck on 57 minutes to
reignite the fight and sudden Villa panic resulted in an own goal from
Vlaar just five minutes later. Then Hernandez sealed the victory four
minutes from time.
November 24 -- QPR came to Old Trafford and thought they had a
chance of upsetting the apple cart with a 51st minute goal. They soon
left with their tails between their legs as United fought back for a 3-1
result. December 9 – Man United started the month positively with a
4-3 win against Reading on December 1 but it was the 3-2 outcome
against their noisy neighbours that proved crucial in eliminating
potential stumbling blocks to the title.
That was to be followed by a 3-1 win against Sunderland (December
15), a 1-1 draw against party-poopers Swanswea (December 23), then
a comeback 4-3 home win against Newcastle(December 26) before the
2-0 home victory against West Brom on December 29.
January 13 -- Five matches for this month and Man United were as
clinical as ever. The only blight, if at all, was the 1-1 draw against
Tottenham on January 20. The highlight was the 2-1 victory against
Liverpool, a repeat of the corresponding fixture in the first round.
Wayne Rooney was also back.
February 23 -- Only two matches for this month and United were
businesslike as usual. It was a 2-0 victory against Everton and QPR
respectively and credit went to the “grandfather” in the United
artillery – Ryan Giggs – as he scored a goal in both matches.
March 30 -- Three matches in March and the pressure was starting to
show. Following a comprehensive 4-0 outcome against Norwich, the
Red Devils scraped a 1-0 home win against Reading and they needed a
Bramble own goal to see them through against Sunderland on March
30.
April -- The noisy neighbours finally had something to bring to the
barbecue, a 2-1 win against the champions-elect. That City victory
was insignificant though, as Sir Alex’s men were already running away
with the title. They confirmed that with a 2-0 away win against Stoke
and a 2-2 draw against West Ham.
21 April: Tottenham 3 – 1 Man City - Spurs put an end to the suspense
or any potential delays to the crowning of the Premier League
champions as they blasted Man City 3-1 to turn international
attention to Monday’s clash between Man United and relegation
threatened Aston Villa.
April 22: Man United v Aston Villa
It was now down to United – to prolong the suffering on the chasing
pack or end the race in style watched by close to 80 000 cheering Old
Trafford fans and a couple of other millions around world? RVP
answered that quite emphatically and the title was back at Old
Trafford for a record 20th time.

Nairaland / General / Lokoja In The Centenarycelebration by loyanet(m): 7:36am On Apr 14, 2013
Every Easter Monday, the historic
importance of Lokoja, the colonial
capital of Nigeria is re-enacted as
indigenes of the State, via-a-vis
politicians, technocrats top
military brass and corporate
citizens congregate atop popular
Mount Patti.
According to the Times of London
in its edition of January 8, 1897 (a
few days before Oba Ovonramwen
of Benin Kingdom was taken to
Calabar after the punitive
expedition) ,Sir Goldie left England
on December 4 and reached
Lokoja, the Military capital of the
Niger Company on New Year’s
Day.
That settlement in the Northern
fringe of Nigerian by the Niger
Delta company inaugurated the
historical and political interference
with indigenous administrative
systems by the British invading
exploiters.
Interestingly as it were, it is also
atop this 1,500 miles above sea
level mount Patti, a point from
where one can get an artistic
view of where Niger and Benue
rivers come together to form the
Niger Delta that emptied into the
ocean and thus define our great
country, Nigeria that Mungo Park,
the acclaimed discoverer of the
Niger was conquered.
So, the yearly retreat to Mount
Patti every Easter is both
symbolic as it is ritualistic. It’s
symbolism lies in the fact that just
as Christ died and rose on Easter
Sunday and through his
resurrection guarantee salvation
and freedom to humanity, such
retreat to the mountain in all its
ritualistic paraphernalia re- affirms
the people’s joy in their new lease
of life through political and
economic freedoms.
Lokoja is also important in another
great sense. It was in this great
town that the British flag, Union
Jack replaced the Niger Company’s
flag on 1 st January, 1900. And
also,Lugard, Nigeria’s first
Governor General assumed office
in the city of Lokoja.
But Nigeria’s centenary
celebration is next year 2014. And
as usual the streets of Abuja will
be lined up with masquerades,
girls in skimpy skirts, school
children lining the routes … But,
where does Lokoja, the cradle of
great Nigerian story come in?
Given the historic place of Lokoja
in Nigeria’s history, the question is
now asked: what is the place of
this historic city in the planned
2014 centenary celebration by
the Federal government?
It is our thinking that the whole
idea behind this celebration is to
wake up those places that the
county’s rich and dynamic history
took places. Come 2014, Abuja
will become part of this history.
But viewed carefully, one can
argue that the city of Abuja is too
young now to be the centrifugal
force for such a celebration.
Does this sound controversial?
Yes, I love controversy. It makes
the world go round.
Viewed from all angles, Lokoja is,
if not one of the fit places , the
most appropriate place to host
this national party. First, its
geographical location is very
excellent and provides the needed
conjugal environment for this kind
of show.
Staged atop’this historic mount
Patti, spectators like people sitting
on a theatre stage will eternally
savour from the arresting beauty
of Benue and Niger confluence as
different carnival floats regale the
audience with unmatched
displays.
Given also the importance of
Lokoja, telecommunication giants
like MTN and Glo can come in to
make hosting of centenary in
Lokoja a dream come through.
With their partnership with State
government, it will be possible
for an exhibition of the nation’s
rich arts and culture to be hosted
and in this way help open up
Mount Patti and the entire state
as another significant tourist
destination point.
This is also the time that
parastatals of culture like National
Institute of Hospitality and
Tourism should make the states
to feel the impact of budget
allocations to their sectors and
stop behaving as if the budgets
are only meant to run for Abuja
activities.
Beyond configuring Lokoja into the
Centenary routes, there is also
nothing wrong with the President
making Lokoja a kind of Camp
Davies, Nigerian version of
American President’s retreat
home. After all, Abuja is home for
the Ministries and parastatals and
also the chaos that accompanies
such environs.
Receiving important dignitaries
atop Mount Patti and having
dinner with them there with a
view of the confluence, the very
heart of Nigeria will leave a lasting
memory and impression in their
minds.
