Education / Re: Can Date Of Birth On WAEC Be Corrected? by mailemy(m): 12:43pm On May 12, 2019
It can be corrected but it takes alot of time which is not worth it.
I had same issue with my date, month and year. So I took it to WAEC head office in 2009. Could you believe I got it in 2017 plus the rigourous travelling to my sec school then to get a photo book because they will have to issue a new certificate. Although the photo also delayed it too because all these while I was only checking if my cert was ready without knowing i need to get my photo book. So I got the photo book in 2015 and in 2017,my Cert. Was ready.
I would advice you to make and laminate a coloured photocopy of your WAEC certificate and a sworn affidavit incase you insist on correcting it.
But for me,it's not worth the stress because your birth certificate covers it.

ebig21:
This is me not my friend,
I went and collected my original waec certificate today,
A mistake was made on my date of birth,
Please I want to correct it, the mistake was during registration, the exam was2011 Gce private, only the year, please who had done such, is it still possible to correct it.

Please help

Spot on. It's unwise and unfair to compare prices of fuel in different countries but rather, we should consider the standard of living of such countries. Compare it with the minimum wage of Nigeria. What is the purchasing power of the naira.

She's ready and want to get married as a woman she is, that's her major priority and goal in that relationship for now, and I believe you have yours aswell.

Path ways if you aren't ready to marry her yet so that she'll settle down with someone else, while you get busy with your hustling priority until you are ready to settle down.

-Don't delay her and end up not marrying her.
-Also, don't let her drag and emotionally blackmail you into what you are not ready for.

Maybe you can help with one & I will check 'em out. smiley
Some parts of Niger-Delta, like Nembe. Some parts of EDO state and that's the ones I can remember for now. But just think about it na,how you go enter a family, give their pikin belle, come carry pikin like that. It doesn't work that way na. After making her 2nd hand, who go marry her for you.
Think about it as a father or a future father.

I want to believe it's a measure to protect the Igbo woman irrespective of underlying conditions or varying factors surrounding the matter. It's aimed at protecting the Igbo woman whether or not she's promiscuous or wayward. The instrument of such tradition is defeated already but as you mentioned earlier - tradition is tradition. smiley

In such matters, every case is unique and should be addressed on individual merits/basis. I will always advocate for that woman whose rights are denied but not support such divisive aspect of your tradition.

My position though. cool
It's a good tradition bro. It protects alot of things and reduces baby mama incidence or having amajiris.
I support the institution of marriage and child bearing.

I appreciate your emotions but your argument holds no water. True, tradition is tradition but I believe you quite understand that our law courts are in favour of justice NOT tradition, for those who would like to take the legal path.

Are you trying to say that aspect of Igbo tradition also apply with regards to outsiders?

What's the likely outcome if the father is Igbo & woman is an outsider - does the tradition come to play as well?

Mind you, it's highly important that the mother raises the child regardless - that's my position.
The tradition applies to an igbo woman. An igbo man will have to face the tradition of an outsider, cos it's not only igbo's that practice such. Make your research.
When you talk about the law,a child is meant to be with the mother till the child is 18,while the father pays for child support.

I can understand where your sentiment lies and coz you're Igbo I can't win on this one since you've chosen traditional dictates over justice and common sense.

@bolded,

Will that not be day light robbery even as you absorb your Igbo woman of any wrongdoing in the whole matter?

I want to believe you're educated, 'does that aspect of your tradition make sense to you with respect to justice'?
Let me ask this question. What do you term the baby mama's e.g when post about some notable baby mama's like Davido's and wizkid. We term them hoes. That's the stigma I'm talking about and it's more severe for an average single mother out there. I'm not deviating from our discusion but rather to throw more light on the societal ills. I prefer the Igbo tradition on this matter.
Do the right thing. Better to use a condom if you cannot abstain.
Being a parent is just more than impregnating a woman or childbirth.
Thank you.

It makes sense bro. Though, not disputing that the child belongs to both biologically. Buts tradition is tradition. It's understandable when you take responsibility and support the mother that can make them compromise. Just like the case of davido, when he was fighting for the custody of his baby. In igbo land and and my part of IMO,in such situation, you cannot own the child by force. It's different in yoruba and most other parts of the country.
The child can choose to be with his dad later in life as an adult and which depends on how you play your part. Not a deadbeat father that wants to reap where he did not sow.
I support such tradition which helps to limit societal ills like having children out of wedlock, the stigma the woman will have to face. Do you know single mothers find it very difficult to get married again in igbo land. Which parent will be happy in such situation,etc...You know the rest.

Thanks.

May I ask what happens in the case of an Igbo woman having a baby (outside wedlock) by a guy from another tribe e.g Hausa, Itsekiri, yorùbá et al.

Does the custody/ownership claim apply to outsiders too? What are the provisions of your tradition with regards to this situation?
Also, the child born out of wedlock belongs to who later marries her. Except some circumstances beyond the girls family or just merely freewill can make them compromise. That's igbo tradition on such matter.

Still same applies too since the woman is an igbo, except in some cases the parents of the girl do not want anything to do with the child. But everything depends on the circumstances and how you play your game.

Also, when you keep an igbo woman and both of you stays as husband and wife without doing anything on her head. If she dies,be ready to face every consequences. Before she can be buried, you will have to pay her pride price and the family can sue you for a kidnap.

$2000 is almost N800,000 in naira equivalent a month for baby mama binta diallo alone ..
That's huge

They both enjoyed the sex which resulted to pregnancy..
The upkeep of the child should'nt be on wizkid alone ..
You are only being sentimental. What you said can only apply in Naija. But not US. That's how their system is and cannot change because of wizkid. The mother of the baby is playing her own part and the father needs to support his baby as well.

That bolded text above is a misuse of word, I mean it's an inappropriate word to use which is self-destructive. One question you have failed to ask yourself is - 'Is tradition made for man or man is made for tradition'? If tradition is made for man(which I believe that you'll agree with) then it shouldn't be greater than man nor destroy man but serve a useful purpose.

My question is - 'Does this Igbo tradition promote internal cohesion or further breeds rancour in the society'? Does it serve Justice? Just as it serves as an instrument of identity, also behaving as law, need I say that it will be improper for that aspect of your tradition to serve as law coz the final product of such tradition doesn't serve justice to the father & is not in the child's best interest - it calls into question that aspect of your tradition.

Your last paragraph DOES NOT negate the fact that the one who impregnated the woman is the true father of the child. When the time comes, water will eventually find its level - if you know what I mean. grin

Have a good day. cool
Definitely the man is still the father of the child. That's the tradition but it can be settled amicable btw both irrespective of the laid down tradition. But in case where the woman's family are in need of a child, definately the child will be theirs and will benefit from the woman's land. That does not relegate the father of the child.
I have a female friend, who is not married but has 3 children from different men with the support of her parents because she is the only child of the parents. I do not support her, because her parents are being selfish here. All of those 3 kids are with her parents.

It's obvious you are high on something. In Igbo land, any child born out of wedlock belongs to the girl's family. He or she will bear thier surname. He will have every right to land in the mother's house.
You think being a father is just having a dick to impregnate a woman.

Fabmumng:
According to an Ilorin-based paediatrician, Khadijat Ajadi, using antifungal creams mixed with baby body creams to bleach the skin of babies is harmful.

Ms. Ajadi told the News Agency of Nigeria in Ilorin that antifungal creams were medications and not body creams.

According to her, mixing drugs like Funbact A and Skineal with baby body creams is not healthy for the skin, especially for the skin of babies.

“The rate at which some mothers do this now is alarming and they even prescribe it to others openly.

“I want them to stop because these are drugs with dangerous side effects.

The side effects include steroids which are easily absorbed into the bloodstream from the fragile skin of the newborns and babies.

“These lead to serious side effects on the long terms including gastritis (stomach ulcers), wounds, poor growth and other sinister side effects.

“If mothers religiously go through the packs of some of these medicated creams, words like “antifungal,” “antibacterial”, “anti-inflammatory” are written on them.

“The constituents are drugs including antibiotics, antifungal and steroids and they are often prescribed for specific skin diseases and usually for a short duration and not usually more than two weeks,” she said.
