Professor Uche Ewelukwa, a University of Arkansas School of Law Professor is the winner of the 2009 Human Rights Essay Award.

The theme for the essay competition was, “60 years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: its contemporary normative impact.” Ewelukwa’s paper, “The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the African Child Today: Progress or Problems?” asks if the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) has been beneficial to African children or if it has proved harmful.

Her essay reviewed the extent to which children are protected in the constitutions of countries in Africa, discussed the influence of the UDHR on constitution-making and the development of human rights ideals in the continent, and analyzed relevant judicial decisions emanating from some of the highest courts in the continent, including the Constitutional Court of South Africa, the Supreme Court of Nigeria, and the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe.

Ewelukwa argues that children in Africa still confront four persisting tyrannies that the UDHR does not effectively address – the tyranny of silence, the tyranny of culture, the tyranny of poverty and corruption, and the tyranny of globalization. Despite this, Ewelukwa concludes that, “thanks to the UDHR, change has come and there is reason for optimism for the future of the African child.”

The competition for the annual Human Rights Essay Award is open to legal scholars across the globe. Past winners have come from Australia (2008 and 2003), the United States (2007 and 2004), the United Kingdom (2006), and Hungary (2005). The winning essay is chosen by a distinguished international panel of eminent jurists, which this year included Andrew Clapham, Director, Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, Switzerland ; Hina Jilani, Vice Chairperson, Human Rights Commission, Pakistan; Claudia Martin, Co-Director, Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law; Alex Morawa, Professor of Law, University of Lucerne, Switzerland; Manfred Nowak, Special Rapporteur on Torture, United Nations; Hélène Ruiz Fabri, President, European Society of International Law; and Frans Viljoen, Director, Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, South Africa.

Nigerians: "Igbo hate themselves...Hahahaha! They will kill each other in Biafra like South Sudan and Iraq."

Bola Ige was in charge of MKO Abiola Security, as soon as General Abacha died, Abdulsalami made him Liaison Officer to Abiola who was in custody.
Among other People, Pa Adesanya, Bola Tinubu, Wole Soyinka, Bola Ige and others were those behind NADECO and Radio Kudirat.

In early December, 2001, Senator Iyiola Omisore granted an interview where he accused Bola Ige of betraying Pa Abraham Adesanya and Yoruba agenda. He said, this was also how Akintola Williams betrayed Obafemi Awolowo. - Igbo will always betray their collective ambition for selfish gains!

In 2011, during the trial of Major Hamza Al-Mustapha he gave evidence in court in which he stated that the sum of 200 million US Dollars and 74 million British Pounds was disbursed by the Military Regime of Abdulsalami Abubakar to Yoruba Political Leaders including Abraham Adesanya, Mr Fashesun the founder of OPC and especially the members of NADECO (Tinubu, Soyinka and others) to abandon MKO Abiola and his political ambition for a new democratic election in Nigeria.
"I am not such a Yoruba leader. I am very embarrassed at the leaders who fed fat on a struggle that we were pursuing innocently." - Federick Fashesun the founder of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) responding to the Court evidence of Al Mustapha in 2011 - Igbo will sell their brothers for money!

In 2012, former President Goodluck Jonathan renamed Federal University of Agriculture, Umudike to Michael Okpara University of Agriculture - Igbo thanked Goodluck Jonathan.
But the same year, Jonathan renamed University of Lagos in honour of a Yoruba Patriarch and a Nigerian Democracy martyr, MKO Abiola, the whole Yoruba elites including Wole Soyinka, Tinubu and others rejected it on the ground that the University is too prestigious to be named after MKO - Igbo hate themselves!

December, 2001, Bola Ige - a Yoruba Political Hercules and former Attorney-General of the Federation was shot dead. Senator Iyiola Omisore, a former Deputy Governor of Osun State was fingered - Igbo are not united!

July, 2006, Funsho Williams the PDP Gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State Governorship Election was strangled and murdered. Many Yoruba including Femi Fani Kayode accused Bola Tinubu of being behind the assassination. - Igbo are not united!

January, 2010, a governorship aspirant Adedipupo Dina in Ogun State under the Tinubu led ACN was shot and killed. Many Yoruba politicians including Gbenga Daniel a former Governor of Ogun State has protested and asked Police to investigate Governor Amosun of Ogun State.- Igbo shall kill themselves in Biafra!

In 2014, Toyin Hamzat, a former Chairman of Ikeja LGA was mafianly gunned down in Lagos State. People even Sahara Reporters and Police says is a political execution.

Igbo shall kill themselves if given Biafra, please COMMENT any political killings, murders and assassinations of Igbo Politicians over disagreement on political interests, that happened in the South East since 1999.

Stop being clever by half
Eastern region in your pic was Igbo Land + minorities
If you add Midwest + west its more than easter. Region
