Just when you are forced to believe that all junkies live in the north. E X P O S E D!!! Shopping complex in Festac town where anything goes Written by ALBERT AKPOR Vanguard Saturday, 08 November 2008 •Hard drugs, Indian Hemp freely sold ‘Aso Rock villa’ is no go area *Safe haven for call girls •16 year-old girl raped to death •Residents at the mercy of hoodlums Even the people that lived in the town were cultured. The set up was such that it will scare criminals from the town. So, it was unimaginable to envisage any case of criminality in the town. This was because, it was restricted to residents alone. Visitors are cautious not to miss their ways and the only vehicles that were authorized into the town were the Lagos State Municipal Transport Service (LSMTS). The gigantic gate with the bold inscription ‘WELCOME TO FESTAC TOWN‘ clearly explained the restrictiveness of the town. Movement in and out of the estate were monitored. However, all that is now history. The Festac Town of today is worse than a dunghill. Most of the original owners have since sold their flats to ready buyers and Festac town is more of a commercial center than residential now. It is has become an all comers affair. Armed robbery and other social vices have become the order of the day. Perhaps, more intriguing and disturbing is the discovery of a shopping complex located on 4th Avenue otherwise known as 23 Road shopping complex. Crime Guard investigation showed that this complex was originally built to serve as a market place for residents following the peculiar nature of its location. But today, that complex thrive in unimaginable notoriety. It has now been overtaken by hoodlums, and all manner of criminal activities take place there. Hard drugs, including cocaine, heroine and India Hemp are freely sold. Girls of easy virtue have found the complex a safe haven for their inglorious act. Most of them including their customers permanently live in the complex. Sources said an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) also lives in this complex. There are areas that are restricted. For instance, only the notorious and wealthy ones known as ‘big boys’ live in an area popularly called “Aso Rock Villa” Cases of incessant fight over non-payment for services rendered by these call girls to the occupants of ‘Aso Rock Villa’ abound. Recently, a sixteen- year-old girl simply identified as Grace from Akwa Ibom state was reportedly raped to death in the ‘Villa’ while her lifeless body was carefully dumped in a nearby mechanic workshop. Curiously, there are those who genuinely do business in this shopping complex. But at the close of the day, frontages of their stalls were turned to temporary motel. When Crime Guard visited the complex, some of the suspected hoodlums were deeply asleep, reclining in chairs in most of the decrepit stalls. Some were just loafing around smoking weeds suspected to be Indian Hemp. In the midst of this, residents seem to be handicapped and have resigned to fate. Remarked a resident who simply identify himself as Mr. Festus from Bayelsa state: “ I am surprised that you people (pressmen) are just knowing the evil that had pervaded this so called shopping complex. There is no kind of criminal activity that does not take place here. It is unfortunate that you are here in the day time. If you had come at night say, from 6.30pm you would have been in a better position to appreciate what we see here on daily basis. At every corner inside the complex, it is a common sight to see these girls openly having sex with their customers. Sometimes, they do it right inside some of these commercial vehicles parked by the complex. The sad aspect of the whole thing is that a team of policemen from Festac Division comes here regularly to collect their entitlement and pretend as if nothing bad is happening. Everyday we cry of armed robbery whereas those perpetrating the crimes actually live amongst us. So, tell me why would there not be crime or armed robbery in festac town? One pathetic instance was that, we woke up here one morning and discovered a lifeless body of a young girl, about sixteen years old. On careful scrutiny, we found out that she was sexually assaulted and may have died during the marathon sex. We thought that may discourage other girls that flood here every night for the purpose, but that was not to be. The police, other law enforcement agencies and even officials of the local government Area are all aware of what goes on in this complex. We that are landlords here have had to resign to fate and embrace the bitter reality. The only thing you people (journalists) can help us to do now is to tell the relevant government to come to our rescue, because we are just tired of the ungodly activities going on in this shopping complex.” Incidentally, while residents of 4th Avenue loath the criminal activities going on in the said shopping complex, some artisans especially the panel beaters and mechanics expressed mix feelings about the complex. According to them, the presence of the call girls provides relief of some sort to them because they can comfortable satisfy their sexual urge without necessarily paying from their noses. Remarked Fatai, a Panel Beater: “Oga, apart from the fact that some of the big boys living in Aso Rock Villa does criminal activities in this complex, me, I like as the shopping complex dey near us oo! Some times, if that thing hungry us, some times the girls them can collect even N300 to N500 for one round. Even some times if you no get money, they fit do you for credit and you pay the following day. So, gofment can drive the criminals wey dey sell cocaine and Igbo (Indian Hemp) out and allow the girls to remain.!” |

Gamine: This observation and analysis and the continuous backward crap is shallow to the point of being insulting. As a NorthernerI hate it when when southerners try to pin their pop psychology on us. If the North is backward, then what prevent the South to be super forward? What is backwards about the North? The only indices so contrasting different between the North & the South is the level of Education. Infrastructural development in the North is relatively better than what is obtainable in the south. We're not guinea pigs in your laboratories. Sick |

Inside the stadium. Very funny a Liberian dude overwhelmed with their stadium asked me when I was taking the picture if Nigeria has a stadium of this magnitude and magnificence. My reply to him was that we had 36 of this in each state of the federation. 1 Like

BRILLANT, BRILLANT, BRILLANT A businessman met a beautiful girl and agreed to spend the afternoon with her for R500. They did their thing, and, before he left, he told her that he did not have any cash with him, but he would have his secretary write a cheque and mail it to her, calling the payment 'RENT FOR APARTMENT.' On the way to the office, he regretted what he had done, realizing that the whole event had not been worth the price. So he had his secretary send a cheque for R250 and enclose the following typed note: 'Dear Madam: Enclosed find a cheque for R250 for rent of your apartment. I am not sending the amount agreed upon, because when I rented the place, I was under the impression that: 1 - it had never been occupied; 2 - there was plenty of heat; and 3 - it was small enough to make me feel cosy and at home. However, I found out that it had been previously occupied, that there wasn't any heat, and that it was entirely too large.' Upon receipt of the note, the girl immediately returned the cheque for R250 with the following note: 'Dear Sir: First, I cannot understand how you could expect a beautiful apartment to remain unoccupied indefinitely. As for the heat, there is plenty of it, if you know how to turn it on. Regarding the space, the apartment is indeed of regular size, but if you don't have enough furniture to fill it, please do not blame the management. Please send the rent in full or we will be forced to contact your present landlady. |
