Politics / Re: We Can’t Give What We Don’t Have’ – Electricity Distributors To Nigerians by Menakay(m): 5:21am On Jan 23, 2017
AnnaKareninaFan:
The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) has said the 11 electricity distribution companies (DisCos) in Nigeria have no control on generation or transmission of energy to Nigerians. This is coming 24 hours after the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, said the sabotage of power assets by militants has prevented the nation from generating 7,000 MW of electricity. Fashola made this known at the January edition of the Nextier Power Dialogue which held at the Thought Pyramid Art Centre, Abuja.

The minister at the session also said that the nation’s power grid could now support 6,500 MW, debunking claims that the capacity of the grid is not more than 5,000 MW. He added that if pushed to its limit, the nation’s grid could as well carry 7,200 MW. In an ad titled ‘Power Sector Facts’, ANED stated that: ‘We can only distribute what we are supplied. Electricity Distribution companies do not generate or transmit energy; we only distribute power that is sent to the grid. We cannot give what we don’t have’. According to ANED, the 4 reasons there is a poor supply of power in Nigeria are: Vandalism of Gas Pipelines; Low Generation of Electricity; Poor Transmission Infrastructure; and Shortage of Gas.

Due to the pain for her, I couldn't go up to 10 strokes at a time, I had to stop occasionally and continue after she rest but we were both surprised that despite it been her first time after much persuasion, there was no blood. She even climbed ontop and took the whole of my package inside but no blood. She surely is a virgin so I want to know why no blood. There was this pieces of tissue-like substance coming out from her pussy which stuck to my dick. What is it?

Business / Thousands Of Zimbabweans Lose Money As MMM Crashes by Menakay(m): 1:46pm On Sep 26, 2016
THOUSANDS of people, among them civil servants and vendors, have lost thousands of dollars to fraudulent online pyramid scheme MMM Global Zimbabwe after it collapsed recently. The social financial network, which relied on an accelerating number of new members to pay off the old, abruptly terminated its services last week leaving participants stranded.

This comes as Econet’s mobile financial service platform, EcoCash yesterday distanced itself from the pyramid scheme. Participants claimed they were using EcoCash for their transactions.

Zimbabweans have in the past months been joining the online investment scheme in droves in a bid “to get rich quickly”. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe warned people that the scheme was fraudulent and there was no legal recourse in the event they lost their money.

The central bank said MMM, which advertises its operations through a website and recruiting agents, was not a registered or regulated entity. EcoCash yesterday said: “We have noted that some of these pyramid schemes are allegedly advertising in a manner that suggests that the Ecocash facility is a medium for prospective members to deposit their money. This is not correct.

“We advise our valued customers and all stakeholders that Ecocash is a licensed mobile payment platform that enables customers to make financial transactions such as sending money, buying prepaid airtime as well as paying for goods and services within the confines of the law of Zimbabwe. EcoCash promotes safe and legal transactions but will not be held liable for any losses arising from the use of EcoCash to engage in illegal activities such as Ponzi schemes.”

The scheme advertises itself as a mutual aid fund under which recruited members contribute money to assist others and are promised investment returns of 30 percent per month. Some of the people left counting their losses told The Herald that they received emails that the scheme had been suspended until September 15.

“All along things were moving in the right direction and we now have nowhere to claim our investments,” said Mr Tinashe Muza of Harare.

“When we started putting our funds in the scheme one could get assistance within seven days but things later changed to 14 days and when we were shut out the waiting period was 21 days. What it simply means is that the number of people in need of help has outnumbered the number of people joining. Right now we have nowhere to get our money which we invested.”

MMM stands for Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox and takes its name from its founder, Sergei Panteleevich Mavrodi of Russia. He founded MMM in 1989 and the scheme was declared bankrupt three years later leading to the disappearance of Mavrodi until his arrest in 2003.

Another victim, Mrs Rosemary Mawonde said: “We never thought the scheme would end this way as we believed that by using EcoCash to do the transactions, things were in order. I am surprised that EcoCash is also distancing itself from the scheme and it is clear that I will never recover the $300 that I invested.”

While some people who were skeptical about the scheme started with small amounts, it is believed some poured in thousands of dollars anticipating higher returns. The RBZ said the schemes were fraudulent as existing investors were ‘paid money not from genuine market investment of their funds, but from contributions made by new investors, until a point when the scheme can no longer attract new investors,”

“The participants are made aware that they make their money by recruiting new members who in turn must recruit more members,” warned the Central Bank.

Politics / Re: Buhari Spent Only N20m For Ear Treatment — Presidency by Menakay(m): 6:07am On Sep 20, 2016
olatade:
The Spokesperson to the President, Mallam Garba Shehu has said that President Muhammadu Buhari spent 'only' about twenty million naira as medical expenses for his ear treatment.

Shehu in a post on his Facebook page which he titled "In Response to Prof. Farooq Kperogi"

Reads "The disclosure on Prof. Farooq Kperogi's wall that President Muhammadu Buhari's ear treatment in the United Kingdom cost a whopping six million pounds must have shocked many of the respected scholar's followers.

The story reads like an incredible tale by moonlight that belongs to a different era, which fortunately is now history. That's when a fortunate lady saved USD15 million for medical treatment!

But was it possible that the account of this balanced journalism teacher was hacked?

I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

Given the austere president we have, Muhammadu Buhari would not have approved this amount if he was shown a six million Pounds bill. I won't be surprised if the President may have asked if the fat bill was for the purchase of a brand new pair of ears!

I'm prepared to share documents with Farooq, one of the brightest ever produced from the Bayero University Kano (BUK) that the whole treatment, including a follow-up visit by a specialist to Nigeria didn't cost 50,000 pounds.

For the records, the administration advanced a higher sum, but the President's doctor returned the balance to the treasury.
Indeed, it's a New Day, and President Buhari's change mantra is real. Let no one confuse my fellow countrymen and women."

image: http://cms.dailytrust.com.ng/cms/newsimages/image/eclipse%202016/Garba%20shehu.JPG

Dr. Farooq Kperogi reacting to Garba's post wrote "Malam Garba Shehu was my teacher. In fact, as I wrote in one of my columns, he is one of the best teachers I've ever had in my entire life.

Ironically, he taught me most of the things I know today, including speaking truth to power and holding government accountable to the people through journalism. I didn't make up the allegation that Buhari spent 6 million pounds to treat his ear infection.

It's been around since June. It was even reported in the Vanguard of June 9. Now, I am the first to admit that Vanguard isn't always a reliable source of news (I have written at least two scathing articles on Vanguard), but it's also true that Vanguard is Nigeria's most visited online news source, outranked occasionally only by Punch, according to Alexa.

You ignore it at your own risk. It's hard to believe that the presidency is only just now learning about the allegation after I brought it up in my column and status update. Well, here is it, my esteemed former teacher."

ABUJA, Nigeria, Sept. 2 (UPI) — Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau is dead, a Nigerian army commander confirmed Friday.

Shekau was reported injured and “fatally wounded” in an Aug. 23 airstrike which killed several other Boko Haram leaders. Friday’s announcement of confirmation of his death came not from the army’s public relations department, the usual method for releasing military information regarding the fight against Boko Haram, but from Maj. Gen. Lucky Irabor, commander of the Operation Lafiya Dole, the campaign to eradicate the Islamist group. Irabor added a Shekau look-alike, used by Boko Haram in the past for propaganda purposes, was also wounded in the airstrike.

“I can confirm to you that the original Shekau was killed, the second Shekau was killed, and the man presenting himself as Shekau, I can also confirm to you that few days ago, he was wounded. We are yet to confirm whether he is dead or not,” Irabor said.

He added that Boko Haram videos suggesting Shekau is still alive are “just a facade.”

Shekau’s unconfirmed death has been announced at least five times in the past.

Since 2009, the Islamic State-aligned Boko Haram has led a....

Politics / Re: Boko Haram Menace Will End In Weeks – Army Commander by Menakay(m): 8:30am On Sep 01, 2016
sarrki:
Nigeria’s army expects to seize Boko Haram’s last few strongholds in the northeast over the next few weeks, the commander in charge of crushing the jihadist group’s seven-year insurgency said on Wednesday.

The army missed a December deadline set by President Muhammadu Buhari to wipe out the group, which wants to set up an Islamic caliphate in the area around Lake Chad, but has retaken most of its territory – at one point the size of Belgium.

Major General Lucky Irabor, commander of the operation, said the jihadists were now holed up in a few pockets of the Sambisa forest – where more than 200 girls kidnapped from the town of Chibok in 2014 are believed to be held – and two areas near Lake Chad and would be flushed out “within weeks”.

Despite the set-backs, Boko Haram still manages to stage regular suicide bombings in Nigeria and neighbouring Chad, Niger and Cameroon. Since 2009, more than 15,000 people have been killed, 2.3 million displaced and the local economy decimated.

“Almost all of the locations held by the Boko Haram terrorists have been reclaimed. We are talking only of a few villages and towns,” Irabor said in an interview at his base in Maiduguri in Borno State, birth place of the insurgency.

Much of the success is down to better military cooperation with Nigeria’s neighbours, especially Chad, whose forces have been attacking Boko Haram fighters fleeing across the border.

“There are joint operations. My commanders have an exchange with local commanders across the borders. Because of the collaborations we’ve had Boko Haram has been boxed in and in a few weeks you will hear good news,” he said.

He said the jihadists, who pledged loyalty to Islamic State last year, were still controlling Abadan and Malafatori, two towns near Lake Chad, apart from their main base in the Sambisa forest, south of Maidguri.

The army was planning a new push into Sambisa after abandoning an attempt due to torrential rain, he said.

“Earlier on this year we had a major operation in the Sambisa,” he said. “Gains were made but unfortunately the weather conditions became such that we to pull out waiting for more favourable conditions.”

He said the army had rescued some 20,000 people from Boko Haram, a fraction of the 2.2 million UNICEF said last week remained trapped in the region around Lake Chad.

Irabor’s base on the outskirts of Maiduguri, a sprawling military complex with rows of residential blocks for officers, is the most visible sign of a shake-up introduced by Buhari, a former military ruler.

Under his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, the army had a reputation for being poorly equipped and running away in the face of Boko Haram assaults.

Britain and other countries have recently increased military assistance, and two Westerners wearing flat jackets could be seen jogging in the compound.

U.S. officials told Reuters in May that Washington, which blocked arms sales under Jonathan amid concerns about rights abuses, wants to sell up to 12 A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft to Nigeria although Congress needs to approve the deal.

Irabor has set up a human rights desk to address the issue.

“The code of conduct is quite clear. Human rights issues are taken quite seriously,” he said.

He said that Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau had recently been wounded, but backed off an Air Force statement this month suggesting he had been killed in an airstrike.

“Shekau was wounded. That’s what I can confirm, but as to whether he is dead that I cannot at the moment confirm.”

Boko Haram, which normally communicates via video or audio clips posted on the Internet, has said nothing since the August 24 Air Force statement about Shekau being hurt.

Politics / Re: Past Governments Encouraged Over-profiteering In Power Sector, Fashola Alleges by Menakay(m): 4:39am On Aug 17, 2016
[quote author=basilo101 post=48547116]Chineme Okafor in Abuja
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on Tuesday alleged that past governments of Nigeria largely encouraged business people to take advantage of the country’s power sector and it’s consumers instead of ensuring that the proper things were done to improve power supply.

Fashola said in a statement last night in Abuja that the country’s power sector had been run by businessmen who wanted more profits but refused to follow the policy direction of the government on improving the capacity of the sector.

The statement was signed by the ministry’s Director of Press, Timothy Oyedeji.
It stated that Fashola took in audience the acting Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Hajia Ladi-Sule Katagum, when he said: “Until the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration came on-board, the nation’s power sector has been driven by business men who were mostly motivated by profit, hence over the years, no proper consideration for due process, respect for law and order, indeed sustainable policy direction has not been adhered to.”

He noted that: “This has been responsible for the proliferation of sub-standard equipment and materials, policy summersault, lack of consumer-centred interests, no data to aid planning, indeed lack of professionalism and concerted efforts in doing things right.”

The minister however said that in today’s power sector under his watch, the government role has remained within the areas of policy, regulatory, safety and standards, training of specialised professionals to run the sector.

He said those who want electricity meters installed in their homes and business premises should contact the various electricity distribution companies (Discos) in their locality, adding that no meter would be purchased for anyone or group by government.

“The who is clear on this, for those that are desirous in investing in power plants they must start from Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), where they are expected to get appropriate permits and licences after which they are to approach the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET) for Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs),” Fashola explained.

He said: “It is expected that with PPAs, investors can access fund from banks and other financial institutions to secure financial muscle for their projects.”

He also stressed that government was determined to protect the interest of the customers and will also allow for reasonable margin as profit by investors.
He adde that the government will not allow profiteering, and enjoined businessmen in the sector to be thorough, well informed and knowledgeable as well as follow the law and laid down procedures for operating in the sector at all times.

Tallfam:
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, yesterday, questioned the spokesman of Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organization for hours, asking him to return the N840 million he allegedly received for the prosecution of the Presidential election last year.

Although the former minister had insisted that he got the money to do specific assignments given him by the former President, Well, see the only option EFCC said he must make or rot in jail.

The residence of Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, was yesterday raided by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Jude Ndukwe, his media aide in a statement Thursday night, said “Earlier today (Thursday), the EFCC invaded the residence of Chief Femi Fani-Kayode even when he was still in their custody.
“What miffed us most was their mode of operation which was forceful, provocative and dangerous as they wielded their guns with needless threats.

“The worst is that the invasion was without a warrant as they forced their way in, and after terrifying all the staff at home including the infant, they whisked the laundry man away even though he was later released.
“This is the fourth time the EFCC operatives would be invading Chief Fani-Kayode’s residence just under a week.
“We condemn this act of executive lawlessness, harassment and intimidation.
“Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has served this country even at the highest levels and he deserves some courtesy.

“We call on the EFCC to endeavour to carry out their functions within the ambit of our laws and stop brazenly betraying the fact that Chief Fani-Kayode is under persecution. The world is watching!”

The spokesman of former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s Campaign Organisation, was at the EFCC on Monday to answer questions on N840 million he allegedly received before the presidential election.
On Tuesday, the EFCC secured a remand warrant to further detain him.
It said this would enable the commission conduct thorough investigation on the matter.
