First of all, if it was the operating system that was requesting user password, there was no need for tampering with the bios. Secondly, the system may not see the hdd during setup because you have not configed the bios rightly. Try resetting the network adapter. From network and sharing center, click manage network connections and right click the connection you are using. Click diagnose. That should give you some information. If no luck click on reset adapter. This would reset your adapter. Also if your firewall is enabled, disable it temporarily for diagnostic purposes. If i get you right, you want to create a remote share that 3 users can connect to after authentication, just create the share on the server, remove the default permission and create permission for the 3 users. Connect to the share from client pc, it requests user name and password. If you have permission you gain access else you are bounced off.
