Education / Help On My Future. by Miki22: 2:51pm On May 11, 2019
Good to everyone in the house. I need advice for something urgent to my future.
I finished from secondary school in 2015, due to financial constraints, I couldn't go further.
But my mum is a trader, since then I have been helping with her business and growing it also.
I am also the last child, my elder ones have graduated from tertiary institutions..
so this year, I decided to write jamb, and I scored 170. And I never planned to attend polytechnic due to personal issues. I need an advice probably on what to do?
Is that I should focus on my mum foodstuff business which is growing fast, to go for Open University program. since I am the last child who stays with mum& also depend on her. although I am 20 years old.
Or I should stay put and write another jamb in the upcoming year?
your advice will be appreciated, I will also appreciate questions too.
Thanks.

Garri adds a lot of health benefits to human health which is not just limited to giving energy to the body. There are some other important nutrition it contains that surprisingly adds benefits to health and lifestyle which many people may never have come across.
Garri has many nutritional contents. The minerals and vitamins contained in garri and other cassava derivatives like flour, abacha etc., are not limited to iron, manganese, calcium, sodium, magnesium, thiamin, copper, ascorbic acid, zinc, vitamin A and potassium. It also contains dietary fibre, protein, lipids, and more.
In this writing, we have compiled some of these health benefits which are listed below;
The Health Benefits of Garri:
1. Aids in Digestion
Garri is rich in high fibre content which helps in the digestive health. Garri can be soaked in cold water with milk to make it creamy, and when consumed the fibre content in it helps to make one fuller, helps in quick digestion and sustains one from hunger for some time, and also eliminates the chances of constipation.
Fibre content in garri helps in weight loss as it reduces appetite and as well reduces the chances of other health conditions such as heart and other cardiovascular diseases, cancer and diabetes.
But in as much as the fibre is good for the digestive system, taking too much of it can cause stomach cramps or bloat.
Cassava contains starch which is known as resistant starch because it doesn’t get absorbed fully in the digestive system, it is beneficial to the body because it helps in removing some of the particles of cholesterol present in the system after it gets attached to them thereby acting like a soluble fibre.
Because of this, eating of garri helps in the reduction of glucose in the blood.
2. Improves Immune System
The contents of most of the minerals and vitamins in garri might be low but it is also a good source for other minerals it contains such as copper and magnesium which help in keeping the immune system healthy.
These minerals also play a vital role as it contributes to the maintenance of healthy bones, nerves and the immune systems.
Some people may not know that while consuming food that has good amount of copper that they are maintaining healthy and functioning nervous system and on the other hand lower the risk of getting osteoporosis.
3. Promote Eye health
Garri also contains the compound known as bakarotennya, this compound helps to prevent blindness. The presence of an important vitamin (vitamin A) in garri helps in the prevention of poor sight as well, as far as it is consumed in moderation.
Most importantly the garri has to be processed well to avoid eye problems which are caused by the cynanide present in not-to-well processed garri especially and when consumed in large quantity and can also irritate the intestinal bowels leading to or worsen the case of ulcer because of its acidic nature.
4. Energizes & Cools The Body
It has been noted from researches that Garri has 360 calories of which 99% is Carbohydrate. It is actually the number of calories in food that measures the unit of energy contained in that food.
Soaked garri known as "garium sulphate" in English provides a certain amount of energy as mentioned above which the human body needs to maintain daily health and life. It also provides a good cooling effect to the body in hot weather when soaked in cold water with milk.
The nutrients in it and the combination of milk in cold water makes it creamy and chill the whole body after consumption. Garri in this form energizes the body quickly and makes the system to relax in a calm way.
5. Prevents Cancer
This might have never been heard of by many people and therefore it may seem too difficult to believe, but this is just a fact you have to note down from reading this article.
Experiments have shown that the presence of B17 vitamin (Amygdalin) and fibre in garri help to stimulate the red blood cell and prevent the stomach from cancerous diseases.
6. Reduce Age-Related Illness
Studies have shown that one cup of garri contains up to 15% of folate that the body requires in a day as well as 47% of the body's calcium requirement.
Folate has an integral role to play in pregnant women in the aspect of foetal development and helps reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration. That is helping to minimize age-related illnesses that progress faster in the human body and may cause the loss of sight.
7. It's Gluten-Free
Garri is a gluten-free food because it does not contain the combination of proteins found in wheat and related other grain foods.
Therefore, garri can be eaten by people with celiac disease (affects the intestine) or those who are sensitive to gluten. Foods that contain gluten irritate their guts and in most cases damage their small intestine.
Conclusion:
Garri offers many health benefits such as helping in food digestion, improving the immune system, promoting eyesight, energizing and helping to cool to the body especially when soaked in water, cancer prevention and reducing age-related illness.
The major advantages of eating garri include that is loads the body with lots of fibre and starch which adds to the dose of protein and vitamin contents.

Health / 10 Health Benefits Of Ginger You Should Know by Miki22: 3:08pm On Jan 05, 2019
Whether you chop this fragrant root up to flavour stir-fry or brew a cup of calming ginger tea, the health benefits of ginger are worth exploring in as many tasty ways as possible.
Not only is ginger chock full of antioxidants, but it's also been used in medical traditions throughout the world for centuries to relieve pain, curb inflammation, and settle nausea.
Here's everything you need to know about the many health benefits of ginger root, and how to incorporate it into your diet so you can stay strong and healthy.
1. It's an anti-inflammatory
Related to superfoods like turmeric and cardamom, ginger contains the compound gingerol, a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.
Naturally occurring anti-inflammatories are important because they can help curb an overactive immune system. Inflammation is your body's natural and healthy response to injury or illness—and it tells your white blood cells that it's time to start healing.
But too much inflammation is also associated with disease, like celiac and fibromyalgia, which is why doctors and nutritionists alike are keen on antioxidants—they help reduce inflammation.
Leafy greens, blueberries, and — you guessed it — ginger, are all high in antioxidants, which means they help minimise inflammation throughout the body.
2. It relieves muscle pain
Because of ginger's anti-inflammatory properties, it's often used to help relieve muscle and joint pain, including arthritis.
One study published in The Journal of Pain found that athletes who supplemented with ginger experienced reduced muscle pain after exercise.
Don't retire your foam roller just yet—but do consider adding ginger to your post-workout meal to help ease achy muscles the next day.
3. It settles the stomach
If you've ever sipped ginger ale or ginger tea in an attempt to soothe an upset stomach, you already know that ginger can help curb nausea.
It's also the perfect drink to sip after a heavy meal, says health reporter Marissa Miller.
"A cup of ginger tea could help your stomach empty faster so food doesn't just sit there after an indulgent meal," Miller explains at Women’s Health .
"It'll help calm your stomach and stave off bloating and gas." Win-win.
4. It can help regulate blood sugar
Ginger is most often prized for its ability to soothe, but one of the most surprising health benefits of ginger is that it also helps regulate blood sugar.
This minimises the negative symptoms of high blood sugar, which, if left untreated, can lead to major health problems, like diabetes.
According to Dr. Axe, ginger supplementation can reduce fasting blood sugar and promote healthy blood sugar levels—helping you stay healthy.
5. It helps prevent heart disease
More than half of Australians struggle with obesity, which means complications like heart disease and high cholesterol are all too common.
In addition to lowering blood sugar, one study also found that ginger can reduce lipoproteins—a major risk factor for heart disease.
Try adding a few tablespoons of ginger to a veggie stir-fry with a side of Omega-3 rich salmon—the antioxidants in ginger and greens, as well as the fatty acids in salmon, all promote heart health.
6. It reduces risk of diabetes
Ginger helps to regulate insulin and keep your metabolism humming, reducing your overall risk of diabetes. Keeping insulin in check and metabolism roaring is crucial for Australians who struggle to maintain a healthy weight.
But don’t just think you can eat ginger-flavoured snacks and be on the right track, says dietitian Jaclyn London. "Keep both dried and fresh ginger ginger on-hand for flavoring smoothies and veggie-based stir-frys and soups," suggests London at Good Housekeeping.
"While some chemical compounds in ginger may decrease over time, the drying process enhances other beneficial ones," she adds.
7. It reduces cancer risk
There's some research to suggest that the anti-inflammatory properties can help reduce your risk for cancer—and ginger is one of our most powerful anti-inflammatories.
A 2012 study published in The British Journal of Nutrition found that ginger extract was effective at blocking prostate cancer cell growth. The jury’s still out on whether this could work on humans and not just in the lab—but it’s a start.
8. It eases menstrual pain
Because of ginger root’s anti-inflammatory properties, it can be helpful for easing pain from menstrual cramps—about as effective as ibuprofen, according to a 2009 study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine.
That’s great news for the more than half of all women who experience extraordinary pain during their periods. A cup of ginger tea could help you get back on your feet.
9. It fights infections
Thanks to powerful anti-fungal and antimicrobial compounds, ginger might even help you fight off a cold or an infection.
"Mix hot water with two tablespoons of fresh grated ginger, juice of one lemon, and half a tablespoon of honey," suggests Miller at Women’s Health. "Or, toss a teaspoon into chicken soup for some added cold-fighting benefits."
10. It improves brain function
Anti-inflammatory properties: it's one of the health benefits of ginger that keeps on giving—especially when it comes to protecting your noggin.
Scientists have long considered inflammation a symptom of degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Ginger root may help decrease inflammation and improve cognitive function, according to a 2011 study published in Evidence Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine .

"Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food."
Those are famous words from the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates, often called the father of Western medicine.
He actually used to prescribe garlic to treat a variety of medical conditions.
Modern science has recently confirmed many of these beneficial health effects.
Here are 10 health benefits of garlic that are supported by human research.
1. Garlic is a plant in the onion family that’s grown for its distinctive taste and health benefits. It contains sulfur compounds, which are believed to bring some of the health benefits.

6.Garlic contains antioxidants that protect against cell damage and aging. It may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease and dementia.

9.Garlic was shown to significantly reduce lead toxicity and related symptoms in one study.
10. Garlic appears to have some benefits for bone health by increasing estrogen levels in females, but more human studies are needed.
