Culture / Re: Terrible State Of The English Language In Nigeria by minto(m): 6:03am On Sep 03, 2007
Nigerians in my opinion are not at all backward in english language compared to people here.Years back,I was new here then I walked up to a young man at the bus stop asking if he has the idea of when the next bus arrives but all he could tell me was 'no English' I almost jumped out of my skin but now I know good Englsh is not very common here. You see, both pidgin and english has their own value it's just a matter of knowing where and when to draw the line .For instance, when I'm in a gathering that calls for speaking the real language I do but when I'm with my Naija pals speaking pidgin is a good way of unwinding, we speak it to the envy of the oyibos and I tell you they seem to like listening to us .There is this particular oyibo friend each time she come visiting, she spend time watching and listening to these episodes of 'nite of a thosand laughs'I have a couple of them and she confessed pidgin is nice to listen to.The other day she came in and ask 'wetin dey happen' my sister was like,  shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked

@ akins4 & carlosein

I still marvel at the way Nairalanders spits on each other's faces in disagreement, and later come back to clean it up nicely with apology in agreement. I think that's one thing that makes Nairaland a place to be. Big up guys.

@ post

That tells you that Nigerans are not outrightly bad. At times I look stupid while defending  Nigeria and her citizens herejust because my people sometimes go to the extremebut I tell you, cases like this inspires me and makes me want to announce to the whole world that corruption, fraud, dishonesty etc. are afterall not the order of the day in my country.

Travel / Re: Ladies, How Comfortable Is Your Car Seat Belt by minto(m): 1:21am On Jul 24, 2007
A friend once said most vehicle, especially commercials on Nigeria roads have no seat belt and to avoid been booked by the authority, they now resorted to using any type of rope for that matter as seat belts; including 'meee' rope and the rope used in getting water from the well. I guess my friend was just trying to be funny but in case this is true, don't you think the above described scenario will be more pathetic in Nigeria with all the improvised seat belts?

Career / Male Or Female Boss; Which Are You More Comfortable With. by minto(m): 5:07am On Jul 21, 2007
Some guys claim ladies are too strict and bossy to be an ideal boss while some ladies says left to sexual harrasment alone, they will have nothing to do with a male boss; different strokes for different folks.
which do you prefer and why?.
Travel / Ladies, How Comfortable Is Your Car Seat Belt by minto(m): 3:58am On Jul 21, 2007
I watched with pity as this lady was struggling with her car seat belt trying to pass it through the 'valley' but inevitably crushing on those massive but delicate organs; the expression on her face spelt discomfort. I felt for her.
This often is the case when the lady behind the wheel is well endowed upfront or worse still, visibly pregnant.
But then the law says you must fasten your seat belt before setting your car on motion.

Ladies, how comfortable is your car seat belt and what do you do in cases of discomfort.

Let's hear you.
Computers / Re: She Spilled Hot Coffee On My Laptop: Now What? by minto(m): 11:29pm On Jul 19, 2007
I had a similar experience sometimes last month. I left mine working on the table closed to the window and dashed to the mall, it rained before I came back and got soaked. Lots of messages I didnt know about came up on the screen, but I just switched off, blew it with compressed gas and turn it upside down on the couch for 2 days before starting it up again. Now the keyboard functions sometimes it doesnt so I just hook up a keyboard and a mouse and its working good again. I'm surprised it did.

@ poster
try blow it with compresssed gas duster, make sure it's dry and watch it again. If the situation  remains the same, contact the dealer.

I will appreciate if posters are giving us reasons why they love to visit these places. We may probably learn one or two things from that.

keep posting.

I know you have a place in mind; a place you always dream of. If you have all prerequisites, where in the whole wide world is that place you'ld love to visit next and why?.

As for me, if I have the grace I'll love to take the next available flight to Lagos to re-unite with my wonderful siblings and friends who I've missed so much and to see what has become of our wonderful city of Lagos.

Family / Re: I Lost Ma Mum by minto(m): 12:31am On Jul 10, 2007
Mums are too dear to loose untimely.I lost mine last December after less than a week illness; it came so sudden and all my dreams for her was shattered ;I cried my heart out. To you lucky ones out there, whatever you can do to make your mum happy, please go ahead and do it. Do not postpone because you never can tell when she leaves. Treat her like a baby, pamper her, meet her needs and shower her with gifts, by the time she eventually passed on, you would have fulfilled your dreams for her and you'll be happy you did.

@ donenick
I commiserate with you and I pray that God continue to strengthen you as you carry on with life.
may I suggest we both check in to a motherless home or don't you think we need some care. grin grin grin
