Politics / Mystery Vessel Appears And Cause Confusion In Badagry by mistermm(m): 7:43am On Apr 26, 2010 |
Confusion reigned at Geberefun area of Badagry, Lagos State on Sunday, following the sighting of a mystery vessel in the lagoon close to the locality. A reader, who gave the tip on the telephone around 9pm, said the mystery barge was sighted on Sunday evening floating towards the shore. He stated that what puzzled residents was the absence of human presence in the vessel. He said that a large crowd of residents and policemen gathered in the area, watching helplessly as the barge floated towards the shore. He said that some people, who braved the situation entered the vessel and said they found five big generators inside. He said there was suspicion that the barge, which had a large vacuum inside, may have been used for illegal activities such as oil bunkering. When contacted, the spokesman of the state police command, Mr. Frank Mba, confirmed the development on the telephone. He said, “We have heard about it. But, the information at our disposal is sketchy. The villagers drew the attention of the police to the vessel. “The marine police and the conventional police were mobilised to the scene immediately. The vessel appeared to be floating in no particular direction. It didn’t appear to be moving in any direction. “For now, nobody can confirm what the situation is. We are trying to maintain skeletal security there. The conventional police are working with the villagers to maintain a presence there pending the relevant agencies investigate the matter.” Also speaking on the telephone on the matter, Head, Public Relations, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Mrs. Ego Nwokocha, said the organisation had not received any information about the mystery vessel. She told our correspondent that NIMASA had already sent out signals to its field units to investigate the information. Source: http://www.punchontheweb.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201004265223857

Politics / Sss Arrests Asari Dokubo At Seme Border by mistermm(m): 7:38am On Apr 26, 2010 |
A former president of the Ijaw Youths Council and former militant leader in the Niger Delta, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, has been arrested by security operatives at the Nigerian end of the Seme border with Republic of Benin. Investigations revealed that Dokubo was coming into the country from Cotonou, when operatives of the State Security Service arrested him. It was gathered that Dokubo was on his way to the country to honour invitations from the leadership of repentant militants in the Niger Delta, in an effort to achieve lasting peace in the region. Dokubo had disagreed with the Federal Government on the granting of amnesty to ex-militants. He opposed the use of the term ‘amnesty,’ just as he disagreed with other militant leaders for embracing the programme. Specifically, Dokubo had said that he was not embracing the amnesty because he had not committed any offence. Our correspondent gathered that Asari had already completed his entry formalities with the men of the Nigeria Customs Service at the border, and was being attended to by an immigration officer identified as Isah, when he was arrested by operatives of the SSS. The source could not disclose the reason for Dokubo’s arrest. It was further learnt that there was a stampede at the border as Dokubo refused to honour the directive of the SSS to alight from his black Prado Jeep with a Benin Republic number. He was said to have stayed inside the car for over three hours, as the operatives did not try to drag him out. The source said, “He was coming into the country from Cotonou when they (SSS) stopped him. He has been there for the past three hours. He is still in his car. “The security agents did not want his car to come into the country. He did not accept amnesty. He said that he did not embrace amnesty, because he did not commit any offence. I think since he left the country, he has been living in Europe.” A former member of the Ondo State House of Assembly and erstwhile National Public Relations Officer of IYC, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, confirmed the incident on the telephone to our correspondent on Sunday. Kuku, who is also the secretary of the Committee on Peace and Conflict Resolution in the Niger Delta, said that Dokubo was in the country in response to invitations from key stakeholders in the Niger Delta. He said, “Well, I can confirm that he is being held by operatives of the SSS at the Seme border. “He was coming to Nigeria because core stakeholders, who are keen on finding a lasting solution to the issue of restiveness, wanted him to be part of the peace process. “You know he did not accept amnesty but we believe that everybody should be involved in the drive for permanent peace in the region, to ensure that the peace process is total.” But when contacted, the SSS denied knowledge of the incident. Its spokesperson, Mrs. Marylyn Ogar, said, “I don’t have any information on that. I don’t.” Source: http://www.punchontheweb.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art20100426553060

Politics / N114m Fraud Ogbulafor Faces Trial Today by mistermm(m): 7:31am On Apr 26, 2010 |
As the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Vincent Ogbulafor, today answers charges preferred against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices Investigation Commission (ICPC) over an alleged N114 million fraud, he may also have to absolve himself of insinuations that his National Working Committee (NWC) allegedly embezzled over N4 billion inherited from the immediate past administration. Speaking last Thursday at the gathering of members of the PDP Reform Forum, former national organizing secretary of the party, Alhaji Umaru Dahiru, had told the gathering that over N4 billion left in the coffers of the party by the last NWC of the PDP could not be accounted for by the present leadership at Wadata Plaza. But the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali, dismissed the position of the former organizing secretary of the party as unfounded. Alkali, in a statement made available to journalists yesterday, in Abuja, disclosed that less than N300 million was found in the coffers of the PDP, as at March, 2008. Alaki said in the statement: “Initially, we thought that Alhaji Dahiru was misquoted and had waited for him to correct or retract the statement. Unfortunately, up till now, he has not done so. In the circumstances, we are constrained to believe that the statements attributed to him were indeed correctly quoted by the media. “Under normal situations, this national working committee would not have engaged a former national officer of the party or comment on what he says in public forum. However, leaving this baseless allegation as it is will not only leave a wrong impression in the minds of our teeming party members nationwide, indeed all Nigerians, it will also cast a shadow of darkness on the integrity of the leadership of our great party.” “In reality, contrary to insinuations made by the former national organizing secretary, the total amount of money handed over to the present NWC in March 2008 was only N281,887,273.96 (Two Hundred and Eighty One Million, Eight Hundred and Eighty Seven Thousand, Two Hundred and Seventy Three Naira, Ninety Six Kobo Only). Already, the office of the National Treasurer has issued and published in some Nigerian newspapers, the Statement of Account of the party as at the closing day of March 10, 2008.” The PDP national publicity secretary submitted further that it was constrained to answer the charges of fraud leveled against the NWC, because it thought the former organizing secretary of the party was misquoted and would do a recant which he never did. Business / Always Keep Your Teller Of Deposit: Most Bankers Are Thieves by mistermm(m): 3:24pm On Apr 25, 2010 |
This is to inform Nairalanders about the current fraud going on in the banks, Most bankers dont post your money when you make deposit. I was a victim of this in one of the Skye Bank in Lagos. I paid in 10k to an account and the Money was not posted. Thank God I kept a copy of my own Teller, if not the story would have been different. Even when I went to the Bank to make complains, you need to see how I was treated, until I threatened to destroy computers in place of my Money, before they now find a solution to my complain. One of the staff even went as far as saying I forged the teller, Thank God for the Bank copy that proved me right, Just yesterday, again my Uncle was telling me his own experience too, a Bank Staff of Standard Chartered Bank try to swindle him of 150k out of 1million Naira Deposit, when my Uncle discovered the Cheat, he pleaded with 30k just to cover up his ass. Please most of this Bank Staffs are Corporate Thieves, BEWARE AND TAKE NOTE!!! |
