Politics / Re: The Mischief Of Pastors By Femi Aribisala by Mixty: 2:50pm On Jul 02, 2017

Remove pastors from Nigeria, and we would all be terrorists...

I stand with pastors anyday, anyplace and anytime instead of standing with people who would promise me 72virgins in hell...

Antichrists trying to insult the church of God!
No..you got it wrong.

Removing christianity would have made things worse, not removing these modern day pastors.

Modern day pastors hardly preach morals. They preach money, money, money and triump over enemies and good health.

They hardly preach hardwork. They preach shortcuts to wealth through "faith" which fosters corruption and get-quick-rich in Nigeria.

They hardly preach ingenuity and creativity. They preach unmerited luck under the guise of "divine grace" for riches and breakthrough. Reason why Nigeria is still backwards because nobody wants to be the next creator of google, linkedin, Facebook, microsoft and other big firms providing massive employment and contributing massively to the economy of western countries.

Our industries are dying but our churches are getting bigger. What an irony in Nigeria.
Travel / Re: Masters Degree In Canada Or NYSC Program? by Mixty: 9:19pm On Jun 15, 2017

Okay...
Pls more advise ..

I am 24years old now..
This is pretty straightforward na. You can go for MSc and then come back after your programme for your NYSC. Haven't you heard Nigerian graduates of foreign universities coming back for NYSC?

But after your masters, please come back for your NYSC. The mistake most people make is that they get a job immediately over there and forget NYSC all together.

In the future it might count against you. No. 1, you can't work in any corporate organisation in Nigeria, be it private or public. No. 2, it will count against you if you have any future political ambition.

So go for your masters now, but make sure you come back for your nysc. You can later travel back if you want.

Good morning, ow is ur day going, op fine. I got ur username from d sexuality. section but I jus wanted to bring it here. Pls I wanted to ask if u cud introduce me to any of ur akwa ibom female freinds dat might b interested in a serious relationship dat will lead to marriage, am also from akwa ibom, am very serious abt it. Pls if there is any info u need abt me, pls let me know

Bros, I don't know you at all. Never even come across your username on Nairaland. You dont also know me. I can't just introduce anybody to you for MARRIAGE! I introduce people to other people I know. Hook-up is different from marriage o. I think I remember saying that on the thread.

Besides, is being an akwa ibomite your only criterium for marriage?
Career / Re: 4 Important Questions You Should Ask Yourself Before Choosing A Course To Study by Mixty: 8:11pm On Jun 09, 2017
dapyd1:
I think the first and major question to ask is PASSION

Am I passionate enough to build a career in this course?

For that, we need to go back to our secondary school.

The method of putting people in classes based on their performance is wrong, outdated and very biased.

The best students go to Science, the rest are divided into art/commercial.

Schools need to device a curriculum that gets the best out of students. That's how advanced countries get it done. That way, we put square pegs in square holes.

There is no course you cannot build a career in. NONE.

If that is the course you want, and you are ready to pursue it with passion, you will make it.

I know a YORUBA professor, who is a translator/consultant for the UN. The man is in money, a lot of it. Is YORUBA an economically viable course according to most people's standards?
Lol. Skewed reasoning.

The question you need to ask yourself is how many yoruba graduates are successful in their CAREER PATH (not diverting to something else) as compared to graduates of engineering, medicine, computer science, law, etc.

Picking one example in isolation does not portray the true picture. There are always exceptions in life but your judgement has to be based on general trend and not an isolated example.
Career / Re: Most Loved, Two Official Cars, Then Mysteriously Asked To Resign by Mixty: 7:38pm On Jun 07, 2017
This story is pure fabrication. Anyone who knows how corporate organizational structures and processes work will not believe this story for a minute.

A top management staff in an FCMG will suddenly approve a 2010 SUV and change in to 2015 SUV Are there not processes and procedures guiding remuneration and allowances No financial controls in place? No HR or audit to approve such?

Same man will suddenly ask you to tender your registration when it is not a one-man business? Your boss can not suddenly terminate your employment in any corporate organization, even if you err. It has to go through laid down disciplinary or terminal processes.

The story is complete fabrication.

Pls,I want to ask how lucrative Economic geology is in Nigeria?

Think outside oil and gas. Your future is bright. Even amongst engineers, only a fraction work in the oil industry. So don't be discouraged.

Thank you very much sir, I still have another question
Is there any correlation between Chemical Engineering and Industrial Chemistry?
Is the latter very much good as Chem Engine and can one do MSc in Chem Engine or any Engineering related field using Industrial Chemistry BSc?

Cc Mixty

Industrial chemistry is a good course and yeah, you can further your education with an MSc in chemical engineering. They are both similar courses, however chemical engineering is wider as it covers almost every aspect of industrial chemistry and some aspects of mechanical engineering.

There is usually some bias for chemical engineering in the industry over industrial chemistry. So if you are yet to enroll, then stick to chemical engineering.

Thank you so much sir,
I have never for once gave Mech Engine a thought. I just like Chem Engine

I was even thinking of doing Geology then switch over to chemical Engineering in 200 level
Does that make sense?

No! Does not.

If you wanna go for chemical engineering, then start from 100 level. Changing is not as easy as you think. Don't get stuck with a course you don't want.

Icon4s
please sir, I want to choose a career in Chemical Engineering.
How do you see the field?.. Will there be job opportunities upon graduation aside the oil sector even without Msc

Yes, there will be. chemical engineering is versatile even outside the oil field. You can work in food and beverages, manufacturing, chemical, pharmaceutical, even in IT, etc.

But go for mechanical engineering. It is the most versatile engineering. A mechanical engineering graduate can handle almost every job a chemical engineer can handle in most industries but there are so many roles a mechanical engineer can handle that a chemical engineer will never be considered for.

Make sure you finish with first class or at least a 2.1.

i agree with you sir,but maybe your being a bit selfish, is working out for you thats fine one day your gona experience what the young man is saying

I can sense some jealousy in your post. What has selfishness got to do with what I posted? I posted this to motivate people and you are here talking about selfishness.

Are you praying that I experience what he is saying? Dude, I sense some bitterness and I really don't like relating to bitter people.

Quote me but you won't get a response from me again.

You may be right. But things like this are very rare in Nigeria. We are in a country where mediocrity, prejudice, and nepotism are the order of the day. If 32 out of 17000 were selected in your last job test, trust me only about 10 were selected based on Merit. The remaining 22 is based on connection; unless the members of the recruitment panel were not Nigerians.
@ the emboldened
It is not true. The recruitment was solely by merit. I can vouch for the quality of recruitment exercise. The process had 4 independent stages that it is difficult for one person to solely influence the outcome.

The likelihood of getting a job without connections is much higher in the private sector compared to govt organisations.

Most private organizations are simply looking for the best hands that will get the work done. They need such people to deliver profits and continue their business.
You are very, very correct.

But I have gotten a job in a government organization most people deem as corrupt without knowing anyone. And all the people I know who got the same job knew no one. And I know several people that have gotten other government jobs without knowing anyone. But of course, you are still right. The likelihood of getting in solely by merit is low.

Don't believe all that. Believe in God and in yourself.

I wasn't connected but I have worked in tje biggest government firm in Nigeria and 2 other private corporations.

All I did was pass the aptitude tests and interviews. Sometimes you may be intimated by the sheer number of applicants. But believe me, if you distinguish yourself, you will make it and get called.

My first job - HR told us 5,000 to 6,000 candidates wrote the test. after the whole process, only 6 were called to resume. I was one of them.

My 2nd job - 250, 000 candidates wrote the test. After the whole process, about 530 were called to resume. I was one of them.

3rd and current job - About 17,000 wrote the test. After the whole process, only 32 were called to resume. I was one of them.

I didn't know even one person.

And I know several people who got jobs without knowing anyone.

Career / Re: Pay Structure of Most Nigerian companies as at February 2017 by Mixty: 9:31am On May 24, 2017
singlessubway:
[font=Times New Roman] i

Oil and gas

Shell (SPDC) N667,000 (permanent), N250,000 to N500,000 (contract
Exxon Mobil N1million
Total Oil N1million
Mobil Oil Nigeria N500,000
Mobil Producing Nigeria N700,000 – N800,000
Schlumberger N500,000
Chevron

There is no difference between ExxonMobil and Mobil Producing Nigeria. It is one and the same company.

So how come ExxonMobil and Mobil Producing Nigeria have different figures?
Career / Re: Pay Structure of Most Nigerian companies as at February 2017 by Mixty: 8:42am On May 24, 2017
singlessubway:
if you are looking to get an idea of how much some popular Nigerian companies pay their entry-level staff (i.e. newly employed fresh graduates), then you’re just on the right thread.

Listed figures are for professional, permanent staff, not contract staff or ETOPs (except otherwise stated).

Some figures represent net total with tax deductions, while some represent salary without tax deductions.

All values are for monthly pay (not annual).

Oil exploration companies pay at least N500,000 for entry level employees, while servicing companies pay at least N200,000.

Multinational oil companies pay according to global standards because their employees can be deployed to anywhere in the world. This explains why they pay the highest salaries.

Most bank employees don’t get to earn the figures listed because the figures are for professional staff, whereas 75% of bank staffs are contract staff who don’t earn up to one-third of the figures listed. So, don’t be surprised to know that most “bankers” don’t earn as much as the listed figures.

Aviation companies pay between N600,000 and N800,000.

Actual salaries may vary slightly depending on qualification and unit.

Most companies offering seemingly low salaries bolster their pay with juicy allowances.

Help us make this thread better

If you think some figures on this threas are wrong or outdated, kindly help us with the corrections (and provide proof!). Similarly, if you know the entry level salaries of some companies that are missing on this list, kindly let us know, and we’d be eager to add them to the list.

Wow. Where do you get your information? I can boldly say your are largely correct.

Good work.
