Joagbaje:

It could have fallen on peter or John . Rember Satan came for Peter also.

Luke 22:31-32
And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: 32 But I have prayed for thee. . .

Satan always look for common denominator in a person as an entry point. He entered the serpent in genesis because there was common character trait

Genesis 3:1
1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Peter had some instability but he had a honest heart. But. Jesus had to pray for him so that Satan won't have him. Satan could have gotten Jesus also but Jesus had nothing of him.

John 14:30
Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

But for Judas he heard the teachings of christ but he was not following with a true heart like Peter and others . He was even stealing from Jesus . He had lust for money.

John 12:6
(Judas didn't say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief. He was in charge of the moneybag and carried the contributions.)
He prayed for peter and not for Judas..what does that tell us? John13:18 I am not speaking of all of you; I know whom I have chosen. But that the
Scripture will be fulfilled
‘He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.’ John 17:12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.

who told you he was pre-destined? The prophecy was that something will happen. am sure the prophecy did not say that a man named judas will be the one to do the job. It's just that somebody has to do it.
Two Questions: Does the bible say anything about destiny of a man even before he was conceived? Matthew26:24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.” 25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?” Jesus
answered, “You have said so.” What do you understand by the bolded?

I have to agree with Joagbaje on this one. Judas 'chose' his destiny grin
He didnt choose anything..He was pre-destined to betray jesus, there was also prophecy on what he will do with the money and how he will die..

Joagbaje:

God didn't create judas for such assignment. It was prophesied that an insider will be used of Satan to betray him. But God didn't stamp judas name on it. He had a choice. He had greed , he gave room to it. Satan came for him and he fell.

Matthew 26:41
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation. . .

It's be prophesied that some people will end up in lake of fire. But you see God didn't stamp anyone's name there. We have choices . And many are exercising that choice terribly even now on Nairaland..
Matthew 26: 20 When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. 21 And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will
betray me.” 22 They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, “Surely
you don’t mean me, Lord?” 23 Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. 24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.” 25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely you don’t
mean me, Rabbi?” Jesus answered, “You have said so.”

is the battle over? then it is already a past. the period of a past event can not affect the future...thats not the reason for leap year. science has expalined that the earth revolves round the sun in an orbit in free space.
due to other forces in space, it sometimes miss its orbit and forms another orbit. the time that it misses it orbit must be accounted for. and who says the earth revolves for 365 1/4 days. this is just a reference. the actual word is "about" or in the leap year, how many days is the revolution?

Still waiting for an answer....

Recently, a popular Engish dictionary updated and added more new words to it. The bible was written for a span of over 1600 years. The book that describes the earth as being round was one of the earliest written work (in time). The volumes of words used then cannot be compared to the volumes of word used about 10-20 years later same as the dictionary example I stated above.
That the words translated "round" and "sphere" are found in the bible only imply at least two things:

- The time those accounts where the words are used and applied are gapped.

- The bible was not revised and edited but was only copied and transferred.

They were both in the same Isaiah..

Your question is actually funny because in geography, we are told that the sun rises from the east and sets on the west. The same way the bible writer described that the sun stood still. Its funny that thousands of years later, scientists and everyone including you still use the same term. So your question is out of place.

Naturally, man describes the moon and sun from his position. A scientist doing an experiment or doing a journal will definitely use more specific description.
That is why a writer will call the moon light just the same way we refer to it as moonlight today. Or haven't you ever used the term moonlight? Do you normally say "baby, let's enjoy the moon as it reflects light from the sun"? No! You just say "baby, let's enjoy the moonlight".

Maybe you will have to go change all the geography textbooks and argue that the sun does not rise from the east and sets in the west but rather the earth falls from the west and rises on the east! You get the picture?

He is preaching a new thesis so i wont clear cut definitions...

thelastPope: The irony of the whole argument is how can you totally depend on science when science is inconclusive by definition. Science is discovery. That simple definition is proof that there is God. If science has dicovered all, then it can claim that there is no God. But as long as science is still in a journey and has no clue what lies ahead in the journey, it is f00lish for any scientist to claim there is no God. Claiming there is no God is the same as claiming that science has reached its journey's end. Then science will no longer be discovery and all research should be stopped!

Does science say there is no God or is it scientist that do?
Religion / Re: Plaetton/ Deep Sight: Lets Discuss Energy Manifestations, Pure Energy And God by mkmyers45(m): 1:53pm On Sep 18, 2012
plaetton:

Pure forms or energy can be understood. I actually think energy and energy interactions are much simpler to understand than other approaches in the study of matter. Pure Energy obeys simple laws of mathematics in the ways it acts and manifests in the universe. Infact, pure energy simply means higher frequency or higher octave electromagnetic energy.
Frequency and amplitude are how we differentiate one form of energy from another.

There is evidence that energy exists beyond our three-dimensional universe.
It has been speculated, even strongly asserted, that our sun does not produce enough thermal energy, from the assumed nuclear fission of hydrogen, to heat our solar system as it presently does, and therefore, there must be some other source of supplimentry energy that come into our solar system.

It was also observed while testing hydrogen bombs, that the energy outputs or yields were far in excess of what was mathematically expected.
The source of that extra energy has not been found.
So it implies that hydrogen fission appear to tap into some extra-dimensional reservoir of energy.

If there are multiple universes or multiple dimensions, electromagnetic energy would be the one straight line that runs or binds all together.

As per entropy, I had pointed out on other posts that what we refer to as consciousness, sentience,self-awareness and intelligence may simply or most likely be by-products of energy interactions, and, not the prime mover or cause of energy interactions.
this would be consistent with laws of entropy.

This would also imply that rather than being created by god, we are slowly, but surely, evolving towards godhood, or towards the complexity of godhood.

you sound preety much like a Mathematician, physicist or someone skilled in the two fields.
1. To go by your definition, the "volume integral of 'a round' is a sphere." If that is so, then you are saying the same thing but in a different direction or angle.

2. In most archaic languages such as Hebrew and archaic Aramaic and Greek, there are no specific word for certain things. So, writers describe such things with group of words. It is now we coin out words or borrow from foreign languages to describe any such nameless object or whatsoever thing that needs a personal identity.

I have proved severally that they are different words for the two in Hebrew and the two are even used in the bible...

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

What saying? all his sayings?

CrazyMan:
The Bible has nothing to hide...

The bible itself mentions various books, that did not end up in the collection of books which were viewed as inspired of God.

John 21:25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

The bible wants us to focus on the book we have and avoid asking questions about the ones that aren't there or should have been there.

Is inspired by God not scripture? How was the collection made? who made it?

CrazyMan:
From the biblical beginning of creation, God created the world...so the record of events that happened from Adam to Noah (when the earth was eventually destroyed) can be seen in Genesis 5.

Records from Noah to Abraham Genesis 11:10-31

Records from Abraham to Jesus can be seen in Matthew 1:1-16

Records of Esau (Edomites) Genesis 36...note I added it here because the bible didn't focus too much on Esau...but if go down to kings you would find out that the Edomites were mentioned...I believe that's why the bible kept his record.

Records of the adventures of the children of israel are detailed in the book of Numbers.

So that's how the bible was being passed on and on and on, until it finally got to us

Ok...How were news books accepted into the bible since it was over time? How were they verified to be truly God inspired?

That battle day was not 24 hours..but 30 hours. The extra 6 hours had to be summed up every 4 years to make 1 day, usually added to a leap year, hence 365 1/4 days in a year. If you don't get it now, I can't explain any further.

Contrary to what you think, the bible gives more than an accurate information on that. It says in Genesis (and if you care to, confirm) "in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." after that, it futher says "and the earth proved to be formless and empty... ." That implies one thing: The earth has long been created before the "6 day" creative periods. And the "days" mentioned is not literal nor 6000years; the root Hebrew word translated day in the Genesis accounts indicated "a time period", "a season in time" etc....

And Science has proven all this to be accurate. For example:
- Science confirms with evidence that the planet has existed before any trace of the existence of life

- Science even disproves evolution when it accounts that contrary to what evolutionary scientists claim, Available Evidences imply that Life suddenly appears- uniquely defined and sudden -at different ranges of time and NOT that simpler lives evolved to complex ones...

The Bible is actually compatible with true Science(ie Science based on evidence and truth).

Are you suggesting a gap theory?

The Bible does not just contain stories and myths.
HARMONIOUS AND ACCURATE
The Bible was written over a 1,600-year period. Its writers lived at different times and came from many walks of life. Some were farmers, fishermen, and shepherds. Others were prophets, judges, and kings. The Gospel writer Luke was a doctor. Despite the varied backgrounds of its writers, the Bible is harmonious from beginning to end.
The first book of the Bible tells us how mankind’s problems began. The last book shows that the whole earth will become a paradise, or garden. All the material in the Bible covers thousands of years of history and relates in some way to the unfolding of God’s purpose. The harmony of the Bible is impressive, but that is what we would expect of a book from God.
The Bible is scientifically accurate. It even contains information that was far ahead of its time. For example, the book of Leviticus contained laws for ancient Israel on quarantine and hygiene when surrounding nations knew nothing about such matters. At a time when there were wrong ideas about the shape of the earth, the Bible referred to it as a circle, or sphere. (Isaiah 40:22) The Bible accurately said that the earth ‘hangs on nothing.’ (Job 26:7) Of course, the Bible is not a science textbook. But when it touches on scientific matters, it is accurate. Is this not what we would expect of a book from God?

The Egyptian were well vast in Mathematics and Medicine at that time....

How can the earth hang on nothingness? Is that logically valid?

I sam 2: 8 "He raises the poor from the dust, He lifts the needy from the ash heap To make them sit with nobles, And inherit a seat of honor; For the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, And He set the world on them.

Allow me to add my own voice.

Now to the first questiom, I would refer you to scriptures.

Matthew 7:21-27.  Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

Now according to the teachings of Jesus, that's the definition of a true christian.

Scripture can be defined as the sacred writings of Christianity contained in the Bible.

there's nothing to verify...if you believe it, you believe it...if you don't, then fine. The idea of verifying makes no sense to me.

They have the same meaning if you ask me.

The bible is the collection of sacred writings of the Christian religion, comprising the Old and New Testaments...it has been passed down through thousands of generations before finally getting to us. So I believe that's how we got it.

So what can be said to be the will of the father from that verse? Its coded...

How did the bible end up with 66 books and why should we not verify when the bible asks us to?

Can you expanciate on the passage of the bible through generations?

Let me Start by Asking:

Can pure forms of energy be fully understood?

Is Electromagnetic radiation pure energy due to its massless photon's?

Posting an idea from some time ago...

Entropy: the ability of the universe to follow a path to lowest energy with maximum complexity. The implication that things start simple and end up more chaotic and disorganised. There are several examples, life being one of the classic ones that superficially seem to contradict this law, but in retrospect obeys it completely. The long and the short of it is simply that not enough time has passed to make something as complicated and complex as a god. The universe may eventually form an intelligence of omnipotent power but we have many billions of years to go to get there.

Entropy implies we started simply ie low information (no where near enough for the hypothetical religious entities eg gods, that so many describe on this forum) when in fact the universe gets more complex and in the process handles more information. Religion implies the reverse of this law and is therefore totally false.

What do you think?
