If you're really set on working for a specific company it may take some time to find just the opportunity that fits your skill set. But if you've got the luxury of time, this might be the optimal method for finding your dream job.

Networking tips - Dos & Don'ts
Nowadays majority of job vacancies are never advertised often referred to as the “hidden job market”. To land these jobs, job seekers will need to find a way to get a foot in the door. Networking can go a long way in locating job opportunities; even if persons you know directly do not have knowledge of a job opening, there's a chance they know someone who does.
Networking can be done both in person and online. You can join professional associations; attend career talk events, conferences and seminars in bid to connect with professionals in your field. Social networking sites such as LinkedIn, which gives space to create networks with other professionals and exposure to possible job openings. Social media sites such as Facebook or Twitter plays a pivotal role in creating a social network. Few tips to a successful social networking are outlined below:

i) Be authentic. In any job search or networking situation, avoid misleading qualifications. Hiding who you are or suppressing your true interests and goals will only hurt you in the long run. Pursuing what you want and not what you think others will like will always be more fulfilling and ultimately more successful.
ii)Ask for advice, not a job. Don’t ask for a job, a request comes with a lot of pressure. You want your contacts to become allies in your job search not make them feel ambushed, so ask for information or insight instead. Put your networks in a position of always feeling to help. Be friendly and let them feel comfortable sharing ideas with you. Your connections will be very willing to refer or hire you in such a friendly environment.
iii) Be specific in your request. Before you go off and reconnect with everyone you’ve ever known, get your act together and do a little homework. Be prepared to articulate what you’re looking for. Is it a reference? An insider’s take on the industry? A referral? Or, An introduction to someone in the field? It’s important to provide an update on your qualifications and recent professional experience.

Recruitment Agencies
If you're looking for some professional help in your job search, head hunters and recruitment agencies can definitely lend a hand (though in some cases it may come at a price). There are a number of organizations that hire through recruitment agencies as it helps to streamline the lengthy process of locating and interviewing candidates. Head hunters locate individuals to fill a specific vacancy within an organization or find a position for a job seeker who has hired their services. Payment is often on commission basis. Keep in mind that many high schools, colleges and universities have job placement services that help new graduates to develop their resumes. This goes a step further in assisting both current students and alumni with their job searches.

Referrals
Referrals also come from individuals you know, however, this method may get you an invitation to apply for a position without actually searching for a new a job. Some employers offer incentives to their employees for referring a successful candidate to their company -a win-win situation for everyone.Right!! You get a new job, and your contact gets a finder's fee for attracting a top-notch employee.

Job Fairs
Job fairs are typically targeted towards specific industries, though some job or recruitment fairs are more generalized. These ads will usually come with a list of the organizations that will be present. Investigate any companies that interest you, bring a number of resumes and be ready to sell yourself. Consider any conversations with recruiters as mini-interviews that can set you apart from other applicants. Some organizations may even offer on-site interviews to candidates that match their requirements.

Career / How To Ensure An Effective Interview Preparation by mollynelly: 5:21pm On Jan 14, 2016
Job search has been made easy with various reputable websites connecting you to your dream job http://www.jobs.digitallagos.tv/ is an example. All you need is type in the words latest job vacancies in Lagos and a job listing appears. It is your time to apply for the job and hope to receive an interview call. Luckily you receive the notification to attend the interview. An interview is part of the recruitment process. It is the time to seal the deal, thus the need for adequate interview preparation. Having been called for one is a good sign. It means the recruiter finds you suitable for the job vacancy applied. The interview is a chance to prove you are the best among a pool of other interviewees.
An interview is a golden opportunity to meet and interact with your potential employer, members of the organization board, and in some occasions, significant other members of staff. It is an important exercise for the organization, one of the best opportunities to meet and interact with you, an aspiring staff member. What do you need to ensure an effective interview preparation process? Hold it right here!

Interview Preparation Basics

Imagine the feeling you get when you finally meet the one you have been looking forward to seeing for some time. You would love a good first impression or won’t you? Right! It’s the same thing the recruiter expects from you, a good first impression.
Other than your merit, aside from your good CV, the employer is looking for a good personality, a positive outlook, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, confidence, and enthusiasm. So the interview is the best opportunity to wow the employer regardless of your personal experience.
To do this, use every possible strategy to develop effective interview preparation and interviewing skills. The best way is to prepare a selective presentation of your background, relevant skills, work experiences, thoughtful answers to potential interview questions, questions about the organization, and an effective strategy to market self.
Also consider your career goals and what the available job offers so that you can discuss both of these topics with employers. Interviewing skills improves and becomes easier with practice.

Research Well Before the Interview

This is a very important section in the interview preparation process. It is fundamental to write down any questions you may have about the company. Draft another list of questions you may want to know about the job. Check online for answers to these questions. It also helps to ask the same questions a staff member you may already know. You must be careful about the second option though. Do not be tempted to ask for or to give any favors, lest you risk disqualification over canvassing.
Research helps you with much needed information about both the organization and the position. This is one of the questions you are likely to be asked during the interview. It helps therefore to have a glimpse. It is however not often the case to get all the information, which is why you may ask a question or two or seek more clarification during the interview.

You should definitely feel free to ask questions during the interview, especially if there are any requirements of the job that you are unsure of. It looks nice when you go into an interview with intelligent questions. It shows you put effort in preparing for the interview. However, never ask questions just for the sake of asking questions. The interviewer will see right through that. Your questions should be genuine and relevant.
There are several common types of interviews. These include; one on one, group, and behavioral. You shouldn’t assume you will get a certain one. Don’t be afraid to ask your recruiter what kind of interview are likely to have if you don’t know. If you are well prepared, the interview will be more beneficial to both parties.
Personal Objectives
The interviewer might have read this somewhere in your resume. He/she may thus be interested in hearing this from the horse’s own mouth (you). You are not only required to master it, you are also expected to explain how its significance to the organization.
There are two quick tips about it; the objectives should be in line with the organization core values, vision and mission statements and second; they are best when similar to a highly performing staff member. Also, should be looked at in terms of both long term and short term goals. E.g:
"Within five years, I would like to become the very best employee your company has. My target is to become the expert others rely upon. And in doing so, I'll be fully prepared to take on any higher responsibilities which might be presented in the long term. For instance, here is what I'm presently doing preparation…"
Psychological Technique
Psychological interview techniques are quite a number, some of which defy the conventional beliefs about interviews. Psychological technique looks into such interview elements as; handshake, smile, enthusiasm, eye-contact, honesty, and general awareness. This modus operandi suggests candidates who give positive impressions of these stand higher chances of being picked.
Common Interview Questions
There are interview questions that are common in most of the interviews, employers tend to repeat these questions in interview sessions. Preparing adequately for these questions is an important factor in your interview preparation process. Check out our blog http://www.jobs.digitallagos.tv/preparing-for-my-interview/entails a detailed list of the common interview questions and the best answers that will put a smile on the interviewers face.

Career / How To Turn Your Past Career Mistakes Into Success This Year by mollynelly: 4:14am On Jan 14, 2016
Well, this is a new year. A time for a new you. You have been searching for that dream job flipping through the Nigerian Job sites. And then the opportunity came after a click on Jobs in Lagos or Job vacancies in Lagos or other part of the country. Whether you are a fresher or you’ve just changed your job, this is important to you. It is the time to review and set your career goals. Talking about reviewing your goals, I am sure you want nothing short of success. To turn your past career mistakes into success this year will at the very least the following:

 Conducting an evaluation of earlier career mistakes.
 Understanding well your current career level.
 Setting new goals on quarterly or on semi-annual basis.
 Conducting a regular review of your career progress.
 Finding the connection between self and co-employees.
 Teamwork and consultation are also important for you.

About evaluation of past career mistakes, here is a list of those that you should avoid if you want success this year but first think about this. That hardly do you come for work late. Thumbs up you have never missed a project deadline. And of course you don’t mind refilling the coffee pot when you are done. But then you have never been visible when promotions come along. There are a lot but here are five mistakes to avoid this year.

a) Being Too Hard on Self
Despite the fact that you are highly skilled, have the experience and that over time you have been quite successful, facing disappointments is hardly unexpected. They can stop you from important responsibilities, which can be the stumbling block between you and that promotion. However, in most cases taking the risk, whatever the outcome is success enough. Try this. You’ll be amazed.

b) Failing to Self Promote
Well, this seems like sounding one’s own trumpet, which is more like selfish but very necessary in a competitive work place. It is significant when you have successfully undertaken a task worthy of praise. Unless your boss comes out and says it, do not assume that she/he is knows it.

c) Declining to Take On New Roles
It is almost impossible to turn your past career mistakes into success this year if all you want to do is what is listed in your job description. Consider this. The work place is like an even playing field with everyone in it having the same tasks, qualifications, and attention.

d) Thinking about “Me” not “Us”
Being conscious about your own contribution to the company is good. But when you tend to focus more on that than the company’s overall goals then you are certainly missing the point. What you should do before undertaking any action next time is ask yourself how that action will benefit the team as a whole.

e) Not Asking for Feedback
Remember when we said turning failures into success this year means doing a regular review of your career progress? Great! Employees often go through an annual evaluation. In real sense you should get feedback about your performance more than once a year. In order to improve on your past career mistakes this year, evaluate your efforts and analyze what works and what does not.
In addition to the above, you will also find the following success tips helpful in your bid to turn your past career mistakes into success this year.
 Keeping close with the right people in the company,
 Developing a healthy relationship with your boss,
 Adopting a teamwork mentality,
 Accepting mistakes and initiating corrective measures,
 Knowing what is expected of you at work.
 Acquiring more knowledge, skills, and abilities.
 Adhering to common work etiquette among others.
