Crime / Two Arrested For Killing Friend In Jigawa by MrCover: 8:06pm On Mar 12
Operatives Of The Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested Hamim Auwalu, 26, and Ashiru Muhammad, 24, on the alleged murder of a victim identified as Tahir Adamu Hassan of Gida Dubu Yadi, Dutse LGA, Jigawa State.

The spokesman of the command, ASC Badaruddeen Muhammad, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to newsmen in Dutse, the state capital.

He said their arrest was prompted by a complaint lodged by the father of the victim, who reported at the NSCDC Divisional Office, Dutse, that on Saturday, March 2, 2024, his son Tahir left home but didn’t return. However, before leaving home, he told his mother that he was going to his friend’s shop to do some carpentry work for him.

Thereafter, all efforts to reach him via his phone proved abortive, as the phone was switched off.

Upon receipt of the information, NSCDC personnel swung into action, tracked down the friends who called him and brought them to the command for interrogation.

He said that upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to having killed their friend.

According to their confession, they intended to kidnap him and contact his family for ransom after knowing that his retired father had received his retirement benefits.

However, they took him to a Pure Water Factory (MJ Namaliya) at the same address, but later they realised their mistake and decided to kill him to avoid being arrested afterwards. They allegedly used an axe and stones to kill him and thereafter buried his remains in the table water factory.

Subsequently, on March 6, 2024, the NSCDC investigation team, drawn from the Intelligence and Investigation and Medical units, as well as medical personnel from Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital Dutse and the relatives of the victim, went to the crime scene, where the body was exhumed.

But before the body was handed over to the family for burial, it was taken to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital Dutse for full-scale medical examinations to ascertain the true cause of his death.

The Suspects have been arraigned in court for prosecution.

Crime / Again, Gunmen Attack UNTH, Kidnap Deputy Director, Security Man by MrCover: 2:16pm On Mar 12
Armed Hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers on Tuesday morning again attacked the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku Ozalla, in Enugu State.

Earlier this year, a resident doctor was attacked by gunmen on the hospital premises and abducted but later managed to escape from the kidnappers’ Den.

Vanguard learnt that the kidnappers allegedly abducted a female deputy director of the hospital and a security man.

An SUV allegedly belonging to the abducted woman, a nurse, was seen abandoned in a viral video with bullet-perforated glass on the front passenger side.

The Police and hospital management are yet to confirm the incident at the time of filing this report.

But a reliable source who confirmed the incident said it occurred at the same location where a medical doctor was abducted a few weeks ago.

“This is so sad; we are not safe at all in this hospital; everywhere is porous,” a distressed staff member lamented.”

The baby was discovered by an official of the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), Ekiti State Command.

The baby, whose age cannot be ascertained, was wrapped in a cloth at the time it was found around 8 pm on Sunday, March 10.

Confirming the incident to journalists, the Commandant of the Peace Corps, Ekiti Command, Patriot Mathew Okotie, said one of his officers found the abandoned baby along Bank Road in the Fajuyi area of Ado-Ekiti.

Okotie further disclosed that immediately after the baby was rescued by the PCN official, it was taken to the police headquarters on New Iyin Road and then transferred to the police clinic at Okesa for treatment. The baby was then referred to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) for proper medical treatment and further documentation.

Education / Premature Baby Found Dead At Ignatius Ajuru University Female Hostel (Graphic) by MrCover: 10:58am On Feb 28
Warning - Disturbing Photos

There was pandemonium at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt as a premature baby was found dead in front of a female hostel at the campus.

PUNCH Metro learnt on Monday that the male child who was covered with a cloth was said to have been dropped by an unknown person last Saturday morning.

Some students who spoke to our correspondent on the incident said the baby who was between six and seven months old was dumped at the Rumulumeni campus of the university in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

Our correspondent could not confirm if the mother of the dead child is a student following the discovery of the child in a hole early that morning.

One of the students who preferred anonymity said, “I woke up in the morning and started hearing noise everywhere. I rushed out only for me to see people gathering and looking further, I saw a forming baby of about six months inside a hole with blood all over the placenta.

“The person who did that removed the baby on Saturday morning.”

Another source alleged that the mother of the baby could be a student who wanted to get rid of the child.

“A lady from the hostel dumped a baby around Salvation Hostel in Ignatius Ajuru University. The child has not really formed.

The baby still has fresh blood on him. The baby might be about six months old, “she said.

Some of the students said the harsh economic situation might have led the mother to abandon the baby or that it might be a case of having a child out of wedlock.

One of them said, “If the father of the child denies it, that can make the mother to dump the child. Maybe, it was caused by rejection of the girl by the parents for having a child out of wedlock.”

When contacted, the spokesperson for the university, Dr Ngozi Okiridu, confirmed the situation but said it could not be ascertained if the mother of the child is a student.

Okiridu however said the matter had been reported to the police.

“The baby was buried. We are not sure it is a student who did that (had the baby). But the police are handling the matter because we reported to them.”

On her part, the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said though she saw the report on the social media, she was yet to confirm the incident.

Iringe-Koko said, “I saw it on the Internet. But I will find out from the Divisional Police Officer and get back to you. “

She had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report on Monday.

Crime / Chienyenwa Nnodua: Imo Vigilante Member Arrested Over Lover’s Death by MrCover: 10:51am On Feb 28
The Imo State Police Command has arrested one Chinenye Nwaneri, for allegedly killing his lover, Chienyenwa Nnodua.

Parading the suspect at the command’s headquarters in Owerri, the state capital on Tuesday, the police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, disclosed that the deceased’s lifeless body was recovered from a gutter at Madumere Street, Christ Road, Owerri, by policemen following a distress call.

He disclosed that the investigation revealed that the deceased was with her lover, Nwaneri, on the same night she was killed, adding that the suspect allegedly had a hand in the death.

The state police spokesperson disclosed that the deceased’s body had been sent to a forensic pathologist to ascertain the cause of death.

He said that the suspect would be charged after the investigation.

Okoye said, Following a distress call received from Bishop Silas Anoruo on January 7, 2024, that the lifeless body of a young lady was seen inside a gutter in front of his uncompleted building at Madumere Street, Christ Road, Owerri, operatives of Owerri Urban Divisional Headquarters mobilised to the scene, recovered the corpse and deposited same for autopsy.

Preliminary investigation unveiled the identity of the deceased as Chienyenwa Nnodua and further revealed that she was seen last with her alleged lover Chinenye Nwaneri ‘m’, of No. 43, Christ Church Road, Owerri, trekking down to his house very late in the night on 5/01/2024.

This raised suspicion which prompted the determined operatives to invite Chinenye Nwaneri, a member of the Umuodu vigilante group for questioning.

“On interrogation, Chinenye Nwaneri initially denied knowing the deceased but later confessed after he was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department that he was with the deceased the night before she was found dead in a gutter but denied that she was his lover.”

The spokesperson added that the sister of the deceased noted that Nwaneri was her “late sister’s boyfriend for four years,” adding that the deceased “informed her on 5/02/2024 that she was going to spend the night in the suspect’s house.”

Also, a vigilante member who was on night duty with Nwaneri added that “he saw him at midnight” with the deceased while he (the vigilante member) was on “foot patrol.”

Okoye said, “Competent witnesses including the sister of the deceased and a vigilante member who was on night guard duty with him volunteered statements to the police. The sister of the deceased stated that the suspect was her late sister’s boyfriend for four years, narrating further that her sister informed her on 5/02/2024 that she was going to spend a night in the suspect’s house.

“The vigilante who was on night duty with the suspect stated that he saw him at midnight with the deceased along Christ Church Road while on foot patrol.

“Investigation is still ongoing, the body of the deceased has been sent to a forensic pathologist to ascertain the cause of death. The case will be charged to court pending the outcome of the investigation.”
