DapoBear:Didn't think of the solution in the second paragraph. If its the case, then lets start importing ! |
Politics / Re: Nigeria Now Imports Bananas by MShittu: 10:31pm On Nov 11, 2010 |
DapoBear:But then there's still the problem with tropicalization. If you want to import from carribean countries then I assume that'd work, but I'm not sure. What I think gov't should do is start by building that R& lab and skip seed importation entirely. |

Why noooooooooooooooow?? |
Politics / Re: Nigeria Now Imports Bananas by MShittu: 10:24pm On Nov 11, 2010 |
DapoBear:But if such seeds require so much money, then gov'ts gna need to do some serious subsidizing to allow the common farmer to get 'em, and, from what I gather, subsidies are bad and create unsustainable economies. U also gotta acknowledge what Aloy+Emeka said bout tropicalisation. Those american seeds might not work in Nigeria, and that's a real problem. |
Politics / Re: Nigeria Now Imports Bananas by MShittu: 10:19pm On Nov 11, 2010 |
Then we need laws in place!!!! Tarrifs, Quotas, whatever it takes to nurture Nigerian agriculture. |

I never hear about tourism in Naija anymore. What's the situation? |
Politics / Re: Nigeria Now Imports Bananas by MShittu: 10:15pm On Nov 11, 2010 |
Kobojunkie:But I wouldn't assume that poorer farmers in Africa, and Nigeria in particular, would be so particular about the kinds of seeds they're buying. Yeah if you're talking about, say, DANGOTE, i mean you're bound to see big money being switched, but when you go down to like the everyday Nigerian farmer, i don't expect that you're gna see much desire for high grade seeds. |
Politics / Re: Nigeria Now Imports Bananas by MShittu: 10:10pm On Nov 11, 2010 |
DapoBear:Waddya mean they don't have access to seeds? I suspect that getting seeds should be as easy as going to the market to buy suya! |
Politics / Re: Nigeria Now Imports Bananas by MShittu: 10:06pm On Nov 11, 2010 |
Kobojunkie:Well then I guess its time for DANGOTE to bring his money-plastered hand into the matter |
Politics / Re: Nigeria Now Imports Bananas by MShittu: 10:02pm On Nov 11, 2010 |
Kobojunkie:Well then, I agree. But you do have to agree that it'll work pretty awesomely up north. |
Politics / Re: Nigeria Now Imports Bananas by MShittu: 9:56pm On Nov 11, 2010 |
Kobojunkie:That holds a lot of truth, but you have to admit, sometimes the most obvious solutions are the best ones, and maybe this is just an example of such a solution. Maybe. |
Politics / Re: Nigeria Now Imports Bananas by MShittu: 9:53pm On Nov 11, 2010 |
Aloy+Emeka:I'm a bit confused. Is the carton manufacturing a good thing or not? |
Politics / Re: Nigeria Now Imports Bananas by MShittu: 9:50pm On Nov 11, 2010 |
Kobojunkie:Yeah. the site claims that hydroponics allows them to grow plants closer to each other and in stacks, meaning that more plants can be grown on lesser space. Kinda clever. DapoBear:That's what I thought! |
Politics / Re: Nigeria Now Imports Bananas by MShittu: 9:46pm On Nov 11, 2010 |
Kobojunkie:Apparently. This site http://www.androidpubs.com/Chap02.htm states that there's a company, the Whittaker corporation, that reported a 100% increase in their cabbage yeilds as a result of a switch from soil farming to hydroponics. Kinda interesting, right? |

I really thing that this South-East issue is a time bomb waiting to explode. The south east receives the least allocation from the FG, has its population counts manipulated and is full of individuals who wish to break off and form Biafra. The FG is real stupid cuz it can't see these issues and so are South Eastern Governors, cuz from what I gather, Igbos are a very united people and push for their development, but some Igbo governors, with theodore orji being the prime example, are extremely selfish and might've been put in power to suppress the Igbo people. I think that if the Biafran war didn't fully quell the Igbo people's ambition, its only going to be a few years before a revolution of sorts goes down in the south east. That's what I think though, |

Politics / Re: 2011:fail And Be Suspended: Commonwealth Warns Nigeria by MShittu: 9:02pm On Nov 11, 2010 |
The commonwealth is kinda beneficial, as being in the commonwealth means that we have some special strange kinda connections with other commonwealth countries. We can trade with them more freely and stuff like that. |

Aloy+Emeka:I don't understand what you mean :S |
Politics / Re: Nigeria Now Imports Bananas by MShittu: 8:49pm On Nov 11, 2010 |
This banana importation, while being condemnable, doesn't seem to be much of a problem, because from what I gather from the source, its only market sellers who are getting these bananas and, since markets and their sellers are so private, i think that it'll only be a matter of weeks or months before they decide that local bananas are better again. |
Politics / Re: 5 Reasons Why Arewa Republic Will Fail by MShittu: 6:11pm On Nov 11, 2010 |
DapoBear:Yeah that was what I meant, kinda. But if the electricity problem is sorted, then factories can be opened and the current illiterate can go to work there, sending their children to school where THEY will become educated, because I think that the generations of almajiris older than about 15 years can only be put to good use through their employment at factories or on modernized farms, because educating like several generations is going to cost too much money and, when you think about it, doesn't have that many long-term benefits. As such, I think that northern children should be educated but the older northern illiterates sent to do some basic work. |
Politics / Re: 5 Reasons Why Arewa Republic Will Fail by MShittu: 5:15pm On Nov 11, 2010 |
My two cents: Build a couple factories up north, and see almajiris magically disappear |

na2day!:Yeah that was a pretty dumb statement, but I was tryna get a point across, and, by the looks of things, I'd say it didn't go too well. |
Food / Re: Whale In Lagos(with Pics) by MShittu: 9:27pm On Nov 05, 2010 |
na2day!:THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! wesley80:Yeah i know we're in Africa, but I just think that in Ghana, informed authorities and people would've prevented people from eating that kind of meat. I bet they would've done the same in Nigeria, if they were there, but they weren't. And I think that authorities are more present in Ghana, and, as such, there is a much higher chance of people pushing the meat back into the sea! |
