poliSTEALtian no get gender abeg. we dont know as fact what females would do if they get close enough to the top or the top. but the nigeria we know doesnt discriminate when it comes to what gender of politicians are worse/better at being corrupt.

The List was not compiled by the media, but by a worldwide consulting /human resources company. Not sure why some see fit to yet again blame the media this. Just as there are those who sit back for another round of access to big mullah, there are many who run out even before their contracts expire for the reasons listed. I don't understand why people get so sentimental when news like this is made open by the media. Not that the report is far from reality.

True.

Nigerians do not like facing the truth.

face the truth ke. that would be unpatriotic, it would be espionage.

I think this is not a news but an insult. Let's differentiate between a news and an insult. US media are fond of distroying another country's image but failed to see their own fault. I think they should concentrate on their killings of innocent people in Iraq.

the US media houses would do what they want because they have the right to, they feel thats what the audience they cater to would want to know. the flip side to this coin is that, nigerian media houses do not do the same instead they help pass the message by broadcasting it whether they agree with it or not all in the name of having something to show. when last did AIT, NTA, CHANNELS, et al do an expose (they get locked down if they misyarn or not anyway so i dont blame them) highlighting anything good or bad about nigeria.

I believe the above could be applied to Nigeria as a whole. One the one hand you continue to hear news of growth and economic boom, but the reality and development seem to tell opposite story.

sure theres development going on but compared to the decay which built up over the years, such development is not noticeable because their are other areas which scream decay even when they dont intend to. the effect of this development is going to take time to be felt. there are some other aspect that need to be fixed in its entirety, these aspects if and when fixed would allow the development to shine even without light being beemed on it.

i really hope this thread wont end up being the ethnic bashing battle ground other threads turn to.
Politics / Re: Worst Places To Work According To Cnn by mustafar1: 2:52am On Mar 12, 2009
i see ingredients for name calling and fighting on this thread. soon the naysayers would wake up and attack everyone for agreeing/disagreeing or simply having something to say about the video clip.

that said i want to know where kabul, islamabad, baghdad, cairo, khartoum, harare, fall on that list. because going by the video clip, the reasons given for lagos' position is lack of infrastructure, healthcare, etc does that mean the infrastructure available in these other cities i mention are ay better? or these cities i mention dont even make the list because their cases are way off the mark in the first place so no use even considering them.

if truely lagos is first on the list then it tells a lot about how things a perceived by those on the otherside of the fence. it might be that, it is becoming an economic/financial hub but its development isnt matching up to the position it is gradually finding itself.

initially only about 2 people responded to the question, hopefully some others would do same here. from the statement being credited to marwa in the above post, i can close my eyes and pick his answer and i sure would be right. only reason i wont is if he lies in his response. grin
Politics / Re: Marwa Berates Nigerians For Spying For S'african Police by mustafar1: 7:03pm On Mar 09, 2009
i find it hard to believe Marwa said some of the things printed above. if it is actually true that he did, then i guess he is not a smart/principled/upright/etc etc as we are made to believe.

Left to me i'll rat them out. yes i might be regarded as the black sheep in the family but if its to fix the ills of this country. then lets fire on all cylinders, although i hope not to find myself in such situation.

Blacksta, i asked a similar question u to what u just asked an some thread a couple of weeks ago. i'll copy as paste it again with a few modifications.

u apply for a job and during ur interview u are asked,

"if you suspect ur coworker is stealing/involved in fraud what do u do?"
A report to ur superior
B keep quiet and not do anything
C confront them about it, advice them to stop and you wont report to ur superior
D ignore the situation because u dont want to be seen as a snitch

wetin all of una go do.

Politics / Re: I Think Lack Of Ideology Is Part Of Nigerian Politicians' Problems by mustafar1: 6:07pm On Mar 09, 2009
IDEOLOGY! that would only happen if a large chunk of politicians stop being darn political prostitutes. the ideals they currently have are self based.

we have some parties currently that tend to fit into ur point, as lucab said, the labor party which just got their first elected official in the name of governor Mimiko has been around for quite a while but failed to gain the steam needed to make itself known. it has finally put its name out there and hopefully it would grow as we progress.

@blacksta
Read everything so far clearly confirms the tone of subject here is simply about how much Money, Money  one can make as a government offical, nothing about allevating the mass poverty of the people of Nigeria.  Which i must say is very sad.

What brought u to europe in the first place, is it not money, standard of living,  opportunities,  now the reverse is the case, what took those diasporans out in the first place to some extent does not exist as before. Now there are more than 10,000 political post to be filled every 4 years not including head of goverment parastatal, if you are the one would  u not take your chance. In life whether we like it or not we want to better ourselves first before anything.

i guess to you  its about what i can grab or the opportunity to grab and not really about serving. if thats how u want the cookie to crumble in ur hood, i guess you should be the last person i would expect to critique anything thats not right about the country.

@must a far
your post has this tone of diaporans are going home to cut their share of the cake. i really dont know how to respond.

if the federal goverment is using 39% of its budget to pay political office holders, u as a nigerian whether u are in naija or in diaspora, u look at what u are earning here abroad, u ask yourself where am I going to be say in 5 or 10 years time, u do your calculations and draw your conclusion. If its worthwhile u carry your bag and head home at least what made u a diasporan in the first place its lack of opportunities and now under the new political dispensation there are tones of opportunities.

your post paints a picture as that of it being all about the money opportunity rather than the service to nation its meant to be. i really dont know what you r trying to highlight. the monetary aspect or the fact that people in diaspora have finally seen in their crystal ball that. no body would fix nigeria if we nigerians do not. thus the reason for moving back home.

I support their vacation abeg. someone is funding it all in the name of helping show the good side of africa. what if its a test trial of our re-branding strategy? or maibe it would help over-shadow the news coming out of zimbabwe. u never know, call it smoke screening.

I am no fan of Mugabe but I say Innocent until Proven guilty.
The only problem is if he's proven guilty, no one will prosecute him and who would even bother to prove him guilty in the first place. I feel bad for the people sha. It's bondage but may her soul rest in peace and may her husband resign gracefully before he dies.

if he is ever found to have engineered the whole idea or even remotely know about it. i wont be surprised if a civil war ends it all. unfortunately South africa would be the one to get stuffed full with those displaced by it.
