Business / FCMB Halts International Use Of Naira Cards, Introduces New Forex Card by mynewsinfo: 7:53pm On Jul 17
First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has announced its Naira Debit and Credit Cards can no longer be used for international transactions.

In a statement to its customers, FCMB said the volatility and challenges within the foreign exchange market had prompted the bank to make necessary adjustments to provide better financial solutions for customers who travel frequently or make online purchases from international vendors.

The bank has introduced a new Foreign Currency Card linked to a USD or GBP Domiciliary account and offers a significantly higher international spending limit.

The new card boasts a monthly limit of $10,000, double the previous limit of $5,000. Additionally, there is potential for further increases based on customer needs and usage patterns.

FCMB encourages customers to apply for the Foreign Currency Card to continue enjoying seamless international transactions.

The bank assures customers that this card will offer a more robust and reliable option for their foreign spending needs.

“We understand the inconvenience that the discontinuation of Naira cards for international use may cause our customers. However, the introduction of the Foreign Currency Card is a strategic move to ensure that our customers have access to higher spending limits and a more stable transaction experience abroad,” FCMB said in the statement sent to customers.

The bank has urged customers to contact their Relationship Managers or visit any of its branches to apply for the new card.

The process has been streamlined to ensure that customers can transition smoothly to the new system without any disruptions to their international transactions.

Business / I Don’t Have Talent – Tony Elumelu by mynewsinfo: 3:18pm On Jul 09
The Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA), Anthony Onyemaechi Elumelu, popularly known as Tony Elumelu, has said he has no talent as an individual.

Tony Elumelu said his weakness in talent was why he surrounded himself with people who have it.

Describing it as his own life limitation, the Chair of Heirs Holdings said life required that one should support oneself with what he or she lacked.

Elumelu advised his 1.3 million followers on X (formerly Twitter) to surround themselves with people who have more advantages than they have in areas they are lacking.

“Talent I don’t have, I surround myself with people who have it. You must recognize your limitations but make sure you are intelligent enough to support yourself with those who are better, those who are more intelligent in that area than yourself,” Tony Elumelu wrote on his handle, on Monday.

Business / Providus Bank And Officials Under Police Investigation For Alleged N1.1bn Fraud by mynewsinfo: 12:50pm On Jun 21
EXCLUSIVE: Providus Bank and Officials Under Police Investigation for Alleged N1.1bn Fraud

The police in Abuja is currently investigating the involvement of Providus Bank Limited, some of its officials and another commercial bank in an alleged N1 billion fraud scam, ThePressNG reports.

ThePressNG learnt that bank officials are being quizzed following a transfer of about N1 billion by a bureau de change operator in Abuja, Shamsudeen Ahmed through the banks to suspected criminals, who reportedly offered to sell $1 million from Dubai to him and the mysterious disappearance of the huge sum of money.

It was learned that detectives are looking into the involvement of the bank staff in the illegal transfer of the money after the suspects provided three account details where the complainant paid in the money only to later discover that the suspects conspired to defraud.

In a petition written on behalf of the complainant by Anthony Odule, and addressed to the Inspector General of Police, seen by ThePressNG, the complainant alleged that on December 8, 2023, he was contacted by the suspects, Gambo Dahiru, Ibrahim Mohammed, Shaibu Mohammed and Francis Azubuike aka Frank, who deceived him to believe that there was a genuine $1 million for sale from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, which he innocently indicated interest.

According to the petition, “Our client stated that the suspects provided the following account details: Account Name: Ushaib Global Investment Limited; Account number; Account number: 5400393231, domicile in (Providus Bank), Account name; Yadiz Oil and Gas Plc Nigeria Limited account; domicile in (a third-generation bank) and Account Name: A&M. Technology Red Set; Account number – 5404168804, (Providus Bank), where the complainant paid in N830 million, N330 million and N10 million, respectively.

“Our client stated that upon preliminary investigation, it was found that the suspects conspired among themselves to defraud our client of his hard-earned money as they do not have dollars anywhere to give to our client but have shared the money amongst themselves.

“What is worrisome to our client is that he borrowed part of the money he sent to the suspects and his conspirators, which non-payment will greatly affect his reputation negatively.”

It was gathered that immediately the complainant suspected foul play, he sent letters to all the banks where the money was sent, notifying them of the development and appealing that they stop the payment of the money and refund it to him.

However, according to the complainant, “One of the banks has refunded part of the money but the other one refused to send my money back to me. They claimed that the owner of the accounts said they gave me a value for the money which is not true.

“If they insist on telling that lie, why did the bank not ask for evidence? I asked the bank to return my money or freeze the account where the money was paid but they have not done anything. They have all the power to stop this fraud but they failed to do it.”

Police sources said detectives have been interrogating the officials of the banks while six of the suspected fraudsters have been arrested and they have refunded some amount of the money.

Efforts by ThePressNG to reach the banks failed as calls made to their Head of Corporate Communications were not responded to.

Business / ICPC Arraigns REA Official For Alleged N298 Million Fraud by mynewsinfo: 5:51pm On Jun 10
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned Usman Kwakwa, an official of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), for allegedly embezzling N298 million through the agency’s payment platform.

Kwakwa appeared on Thursday before a federal high court in Abuja, facing a four-count charge.

He is one of several officers implicated in an over N1.2 billion fraud at the agency.

At least five officials, including Kwakwa, have been charged separately by the ICPC for various amounts of funds allegedly stolen from the agency in March 2023.

Kwakwa pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge and was granted bail set at N50 million.

During the proceedings, Suobeni Akponimisingha, the prosecution counsel, informed the court about the absence of three other defendants: Emmanuel Titus, Umar Karaye, and Henrietta Okojie.

Akponimisingha stated that all the defendants had been served with copies of the charges and were informed of the day’s proceedings, but chose to stay away.

He requested the court to issue a bench warrant for their arrest.

In a brief ruling, Judge Emeka Nwite ordered the arrest of the three accused individuals.

“The defendant decided not to come to court. I am convinced that the defendant deliberately absented himself from court,” Nwite ruled.

The judge scheduled Titus and Karaye’s arraignment for June 13, while Okojie’s arraignment was set for June 14.

The ICPC, in the separate charges filed against the defendants, accused them of diverting funds intended for rural electrification through the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) payment platform into their personal accounts in tranches.

In March, President Bola Tinubu approved the indefinite suspension of Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, the managing director of REA, along with three executive directors, following findings from a comprehensive investigation into the agency's financial activities.

However, Ahmad’s name was not included in any of the ICPC charges, and he remains suspended.

The Citizens Awareness Against Corruption And Social Vices Initiative (CAACASVI), a rights group, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to investigate the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

According to CAACASVI, this call aligns with the federal government’s appraisal of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in conjunction with the activities marking the administration’s first year in office, aiming to gauge its performance.

The group, which focuses on fighting corruption and promoting transparency in public spaces, made this appeal following repeated allegations against the NUPRC’s operations under Gbenga Komolafe by concerned Nigerians.

Olukolade Akindele—head of publicity, Director of Research & Documentation, and Director of Mobilisation & Logistics for CAACASVI respectively—the group condemned the alleged corruption within NUPRC and urged the President to act swiftly to reform the commission.

The release stated, in part: “As an agency that monitors the oil and gas industry to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and laws, and oversees the safety and other regulations related to the exportation and importation of petroleum products into the country, the enormity of the commission's responsibilities is clear and its strategic importance to the economy cannot be over-emphasized.”

Education / Concerns Over Health Hazards At Maduka University Due To Poor Food And Water. by mynewsinfo: 3:21pm On Mar 15
In recent discussions among the student body of Maduka University, growing concerns have emerged regarding the substandard quality of food and water available within the campus premises. This issue has prompted widespread complaints from students who assert that the inadequate provisions are contributing to a rise in health problems, notably cases of typhoid and malaria among the student population.

At the heart of the matter lies the dissatisfaction with the food served within the university's cafeteria facilities. Numerous students have voiced grievances about the quality, taste, and nutritional value of the meals provided, citing instances of undercooked or stale food being served.

Such conditions not only compromise the overall well-being of students but also raise serious questions about the standards of hygiene and sanitation maintained in food preparation areas.

Additionally, concerns extend to the water supply on campus, with reports indicating that the water quality falls below acceptable standards. Many students have reported instances of discolored or foul-smelling water emanating from taps in residential halls and academic buildings.

This has fueled anxieties regarding the safety of drinking water, as contaminated water sources pose a significant health risk, particularly in an educational environment where large numbers of individuals reside in close proximity.

The consequences of these subpar conditions are alarming, with a noticeable uptick in cases of typhoid and malaria among the student populace. These diseases, both of which are waterborne and foodborne, thrive in environments where hygiene and sanitation practices are lacking.

The prevalence of such illnesses not only jeopardizes the academic pursuits of affected students but also places undue strain on the university's healthcare resources.

In response to these mounting concerns, there is a call for urgent action to address the root causes of the problem. This includes implementing rigorous quality control measures in food preparation and distribution processes, as well as conducting regular testing and treatment of the campus water supply. Furthermore, there is a need for greater transparency and accountability from university authorities regarding efforts to safeguard the health and well-being of students.

In conclusion, the issue of poor food and water quality at Maduka University is a pressing matter that demands immediate attention. It is imperative that steps are taken to rectify these deficiencies to ensure a safe and conducive environment for learning and living on campus. Failure to address these concerns not only compromises the health of students but also undermines the reputation and credibility of the institution as a whole.

Crime / Lagos Barber Accuses Police Of N100,000 Extortion - Exposed Full Details by mynewsinfo: 9:29pm On Feb 25
Some yet-to-be-identified policemen in Lagos State have allegedly extorted a man who identified himself as Precious Onwubuya, of the sum of N100,000.

This latest development comes barely a day after the Lagos State Police Command, on Wednesday, announced the dismissal of a sergeant, Ekpo Shimuyere, who was attached to the Sogunle Division, for extorting a young man of N98,000.

Onwubuya, who also revealed that he is a barber, took to his Twitter handle @alilmoonn, on Thursday, to narrate his ordeal, stating that he was abused by the policemen numbering up to four in a vehicle, with a driver.

He said, on his way back from Ikoyi, where he had gone to collect his marriage certificate, the policemen who were driving behind him asked his Uber driver to stop. He said this was around Second Rainbow area.

According to him, he was allegedly taken to a Point of Sale outlet where he made the payment. The receipt of the POS slip posted by Onwubuya, dated June 1, 2023, showed the sum of N100,800 payment was approved, with the N800 suspected to be the POS charges.

“They were four men plus the driver. (I) was coming back from the Federal Registry at Ikoyi. These men stopped my Uber driver and asked him to open his boot, and he did.

“The policemen found nothing, the other one asked me to come down and meet their boss, I did, and the boss asked me to enter inside the car they were using to patrol, they carried me and said they wanted to report me to the Economic and Finacial Crimes Commission. I’m a barber by profession, I have my certificate.

“I’m innocent, these men pressed me to the extent I couldn’t breathe and I was begging them so I could take some air, they refused, they said I’m using an iPhone 14 pro max, (that) I’m into fraud. I swear on my life I have never done anything like that in my life!” he narrated.

Continuing, the victim stressed, “the policemen told me to pay them N2 million. Firstly, they took my phone from me, I can’t even reach my mom or family. I told them that I don’t have up to that amount they’re requesting, and I pleaded with them to stop, so I could, but they never listened! It’s so sad Nigeria,” the tweep added.

He said they later made him pay N100,000 after discovering he didn’t have up to the N2million they allegedly requested from him.

According to him, the policemen said they would take him to the EFCC or beat him if he didn’t pay the money.

“So, the man checked my UBA balance and found out I didn’t have such an amount and (told) them to collect 100k from me. I did nothing, they didn’t see any fraud activity on my phone, the man said if I didn’t pay, they would beat me or take me to the EFCC and lock me up.

“I was begging, I told them it’s my hard-earned money. Nigeria is hard and these men are still making it unbearable for us. It’s very sad. They took the 100k from my bank. I couldn’t take pictures of the police because they were with my phone.

“I only have the picture from the POS slip. These men are in the second rainbow, Lagos State,” he added.

Efforts to get the reaction of the Lagos police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, proved abortive as his line was busy when a voice call was initiated.

However, reacting to Onwubuya’s tweet on Twitter via his handle @BenHundeyin, the PPRO, who seemed to be aware of the report, told the alleged victim to keep the police updated.

Hundeyi advised, “Just as we discussed on the phone, follow through with the Area Commander’s advise and keep us updated.

“We will not be deterred in our resolve to rid the Force of bad eggs. We will not!” Hundeyin insisted in the tweet reacting to Onwubuya.

Maduka University Enugu Scams Over 400+ Nursing Students ₦800,000 Each Without Offering Them Admission

The Betrayal of Trust: Maduka University Enugu's Deception And Ripping of 400+ Nursing Students over ₦800,000 Naira Each Without Refunds.

In a shocking revelation that has left many stunned and outraged, Maduka University Enugu has come under fire for its egregious mishandling of school fees payments and admissions, particularly affecting over 400 nursing students. The university stands accused of collecting hefty sums from these hopeful students, only to turn around and deny admission to over 300 of them, despite having pocketed substantial amounts totaling over 800 thousand naira from each student.

The situation has sparked widespread condemnation and raised serious questions about the integrity and ethics of the institution. For students who had eagerly anticipated beginning their academic journey at Maduka University, the abrupt denial of admission after parting with significant sums of money is not just a financial setback but a betrayal of trust.

The saga began when hundreds of nursing students applied to Maduka University, attracted by its reputation and promises of quality education. With dreams of becoming healthcare professionals, they diligently followed the university's procedures and paid their school fees, believing it to be a crucial step towards securing their future.

However, their dreams were shattered when the university, in a shocking turn of events, informed them that they would not be admitted due to unspecified reasons. For many students and their families, this news came as a devastating blow, leaving them with a sense of betrayal and disillusionment.

The heart of the matter lies in the university's apparent disregard for the well-being and future prospects of its students. By accepting payments from hundreds of aspiring nursing students and then failing to deliver on its promises of admission, Maduka University has not only damaged its reputation but also inflicted significant harm on the lives of these individuals.

Investment / Gold Vs Currency Trading by mynewsinfo: 11:19pm On Apr 10, 2023
Before the mid-20th century, global currencies were directly linked to the gold reserves they held, which standardized the value of a currency against gold. However, this system had flaws, such as a lack of flexibility and transparency. In 1973, the US went off the gold standard, allowing gold to be traded on the free market while the Federal Reserve controlled the US dollar. This caused volatility, but the dollar has since stabilized.

Traders now look at XAU/USD to track the price movements between gold and the dollar. Gold trading is available on almost all forex brokers. Understanding how central banks use gold in relation to their currency can help traders understand the relationship between gold and the forex market.

What is gold and currency trading?
Gold trading involves buying and selling gold as a financial instrument, often used as a hedge against economic changes. It provides consistency over time as it is resistant to swings in valuation, unlike fiat currencies. Its stability makes it an important asset during times of uncertainty, such as during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Forex trading, conversely, involves buying and selling currencies in the foreign exchange market to make a profit. It is the largest financial market in the world and can be executed through various platforms. While it may be volatile, it can also create profitable opportunities for skilled traders. The Forex for Beginners guide provides an overview of everything needed to start Forex trading.

Benefits of Trading Gold
Gold trading has various advantages, which include diversification of investment portfolios. Let's sum up its other benefits as follows:
Gold's price performance is often unaffected by other assets, such as stocks, bonds, and currencies, which reduces risk.
The metal is also considered a haven asset due to its ability to retain value during economic uncertainty and market volatility.
It is a widely traded market, making it easy to buy and sell through various channels, including online platforms, banks, and bullion dealers.
Physical gold ownership is also cost-effective compared to other asset classes, such as real estate or fine art.
Gold also acts as a hedge against inflation, maintaining its purchasing power over time.

Benefits of Trading Currencies
Forex trading has numerous advantages, such as high liquidity, which makes it easy to enter and exit trades at competitive prices. Here are some of its other benefits:

It's also flexible, available 24/5, allowing traders to take advantage of market opportunities regardless of their schedule.
Traders can use high leverage to control large amounts of currency with a relatively small investment, but this can also magnify potential losses.
Forex trading provides access to a wide range of currency pairs, offering the opportunity to diversify investment portfolios and reduce overall risk.
It has low entry barriers and provides access to the global currency market, which offers a range of investment opportunities not available in other markets.

Major Factors Affecting Gold Prices
Various factors beyond the basic principles of supply and demand influence gold prices. Since gold is mainly used for investment, it is susceptible to market volatility and uncertainty. Additionally, the US dollar's value has an inverse relationship with gold prices, meaning that when the dollar's value rises, gold prices fall and vice versa.
Central banks hold gold reserves as a hedge against inflation, and increasing reserves can boost gold prices. Risk appetite among investors also impacts gold prices, as it is considered a safe haven asset during times of high-risk aversion. Finally, interest rates have an inverse relationship with gold prices, with prices dropping when rates rise.

Major Factors Affecting Currencies
The value of a currency is affected by various factors such as inflation rate, interest rates, terms of trade, and public debt. A lower inflation rate leads to a higher currency value, while higher interest rates attract more foreign capital, causing a rise in exchange rates. Terms of trade, which refer to the ratio between export and import prices, also affect currency value.
An increase in export revenue raises demand for the national currency, thus increasing its value. However, countries with large public debts are less attractive to foreign investors and less likely to obtain foreign capital, which fuels inflation. Therefore, a country's debt rating is crucial in setting exchange rates.

Where should I Invest?
Gold is a scarce asset that is always in demand, making it a reliable investment option despite its fluctuating value. Trading gold exchange-traded funds is easier than trading Forex. Forex trading offers more flexibility as it can be done anytime. Still, it also comes with higher risks due to leverage. Gold trading is known for its stability, making it a good option for low-risk investors looking for a long-term investment. Forex trading has higher risks, but establishing a margin call can mitigate them. Ultimately, choosing between investing in Forex or gold depends on your preferences and risk tolerance.
Summing up

Gold trading provides stability, acts as a hedge against inflation, and is widely traded, while forex trading offers high liquidity, flexibility, and access to a range of currency pairs. Traders should try out both instruments on a demo portfolio before proceeding to a live account. Testing them will help you determine if they are more suited to your trading regime.

Sports / Online Betting: What Can You Bet On? by mynewsinfo: 12:11pm On Mar 21, 2023
Maybe it looks familiar to you. That nagging premonition you sometimes have about the course of a competition or event. Of course, you can ignore that feeling. But you could also turn it into cash by taking out online bets at a non GamStop bookmaker . Because whether it's to add some excitement, earn some extra pocket money, or just for fun: many of us use sports competitions or events to place bets. The options are endless, and there is something for everyone. What can you bet on in online betting?

Online Betting Options at Non Gamstop Bookmakers

In this article we take a closer look at the different options when placing bets. We mainly focus on sports betting at non GamStop bookmakers, but if you think that Donald Trump will run for president again in 2024, you can also simply bet money on this prediction at any non GamStop betting site. Bets: they come in all shapes and sizes.

Place Bets on Sports at Non Gamstop Bookmakers

We place bets at non GamStop bookmakers. A bookmaker offers odds on which we, the customers, can bet our money.
The most bets are made on sports. The choice is unprecedented. Not only the branch of sport and the level of the competition, but also the possibilities offered offer the player hundreds of options.

Where football remains the sport on which the most bets are placed, you can also place a bet on sports such as American football, horse racing, or, for example, netball and darts. Sports that we may not follow in the UK, but that does not have to spoil the fun.
The gambler can also lose his egg in the more well-known sports such as tennis, baseball, golf and darts.

Furthermore, placing bets on Esports at non GamStop bookmakers has also gained enormous popularity in recent years. Big money is regularly bet on competitions that are played online by teams that specialize in games such as Counterstrike, League Of Legends, Call Of Duty or, for example, Starcraft.

Betting on Long-term Bets

In addition, you do not have to limit yourself to betting on individual matches. There is also plenty of choice in long-term bets.
All things on which you can already place bets at the various bookmakers not on GamStop. In any case, it will keep the tension nice in the coming weeks. Or even months.

Place Bets on Events at Non Gamstop Bookmakers

However, bookmakers not on GamStop do not only offer bets on sporting events. You can also go there for things that you might not immediately think you can bet money on at first.

Bet on the Oscars

For example, the national Oscars will be awarded in Finland in March. What interests us? Usually, not much, indeed. But we can bet money on it at the bookmakers not on GamStop, so it suddenly becomes a lot more interesting.

TV-Betting

In terms of TV betting, betting on who will rule Westeros is probably a lot more popular. This fictional empire from the hugely popular Game of Thrones series is currently without a ruler.

The general expectation is that a type like Jon Snow or Sansa stark will ascend the throne at the end of the final season and rule over the seven kingdoms.
As usual, one or two protagonists die every season. That will be no different during the last season. But who will that be? We can place bets on that too.

Different Options for Online Betting At Non Gamstop Boomkaers

Sounds quite simple, predicting a winner in a football match, for example. But the average bookmaker not on GamStop offers much more options when placing bets.
As an example, we take a match (from the past) between Barcelona and Real Madrid that was recently played in the context of the Copa del Rey.

Win, Lose, or Draw

Bets can be placed on almost every aspect of this match. Of course, you can predict that either Barcelona or Real Madrid will win. And a draw is also possible.

Total Goals

If we look a little further, we come across more specific options. For example, we can guess how many goals will be scored in total by both teams. This is indicated by 'over' and 'under'.

You guessed it: you can also predict how many goals Barcelona or Real Madrid will score separately.

Odd/even

Here you predict whether the number of goals scored will be odd or even. This is basically a pure gamble with a 50% chance. The odds will, therefore, almost always be the same whether you choose even or odd.
This is a typical bet where the house always wins in the long run and as a predictor, this is also difficult to predict.

Exact Result

Betting on the exact result is also popular. A bet on 1-0 logically yields much less than correctly predicting a spectacular 5-3.
Furthermore, bookmakers not on GamStop offer the option to divide the match into halves. The so called half time/full-time bets.
Do you think Barcelona will rest with a 2-0 lead but that Real Madrid will be able to turn that into a 2-2 draw in the second half? Then you bet on FC

Barcelona/Draw.

Half Time / Full Time

You predict the 'profit' at the halftime signal and at the final signal. Suppose you expect a 2-0 victory for the home team and that the home team already has a lead at half time, then you choose 1/1 here.

The odds of such predictions are much higher than the prediction for full-time only. There are 9 options:
1/1, 1/x, 1/2
2/1, 2/x, 2/2
x/1, x/x, x/2

Options 1/2 and 2/1 will show the highest odds and are more of a pure guess than a logical prediction (after all, you predict that, for example, the home team is leading at halftime but relinquishes the lead after the break and even loses).
Crime / Fraudsters Break Into Fidelity Bank Account, Steal Customer’s Funds by mynewsinfo: 12:03pm On Jan 25, 2023
Lagos-based mechanic recounts how fraudsters broke into his Fidelity bank account to steal N76, 000.

Newsngr.com.ng reports that Fraudsters on January 1 deducted the sum of N76, 000 deposited in the Fidelity Bank account of a Lagos-based mechanic, Ogunsola Oladipupo.

Oladipupo, who narrated this ordeal to FIJ said the money was deducted in tranches of N70,000 and N6,000.

“On January 6, I was at the Point of Sales (PoS) to withdraw N12, 000 but was told my balance was insufficient,” Oladipupo told FIJ.

“I told them I had money in there but they insisted otherwise and asked me to visit my bank for my statement of account.”

The Lagos-based mechanic said when he got to the bank, his statement of account revealed that his money was transferred into an Opay account.

“I found out that my money was moved through a PoS transfer into an Opay account,” he said.

“I also discovered that N6,000 was deducted on December 31 and N70,000 on January 1.

“What I don’t understand is how it happened without a debit alert. I wasn’t even notified in any way.

“I just want my money back from Fidelity Bank.”

Messages sent to Fidelity Bank on Twitter and via email had not been responded to at press time, FIJ reported.
