The Chairman elect Forum of NYCN Chairmen South-South Zone and Chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Rivers State Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo has called on the Inspector General of Police Muhammed Adamu to apologize to Rivers people for not scraping the infamous Special Anti-robbery Squard (SARS) after killing a Rivers indegine during the 2019 general election in Rivers state.

The Youth ambassador also called on the former SARS Commander in the state Akin Fakorode to render an unreserved apology to Rivers people for not apologizing and sanctioning his men after the murder of Dr. Ferry Gberegbe.

You would recall that Dr. Ferry Gberegbe was shot by operatives of the disbanded SARS unit during the 2019 general election while performing his official duty as the People’s Democratic Party’s Agent in Khana Local Government area in Rivers State.

Dr Ferry Gberegbe, who was a lecturer at the Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, was murdered by SARS personnel at the Bori Governorship Election Collation Centre.

Ambassador Ihunwo made the call at the Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa shortly after arriving from Abuja on Tuesday after emerging Chairman Forum of NYCN Chairmen South-South Zone.

He said as the Chairman of Forum of NYCN Chairmen in the South-South Zone he would galvernize with stakeholders for peace within the region and further support total scraping of SARS as the operatives have victimized and murdered many Nigerians especially Rivers people.

“For the #EndSARS protest going on we have decided to support scrap SARS because they have killed many Nigerians, especially Rivers people.
“We are happy that the Inspector General of Police has scrapped the tactical unit of the Police force so we also call on him to apologize to Rivers people because a man who has a pedegree was murdered during the 2019 elections and the IG did not scrap SARS or render apology to Rivers people.

“We also call on Akin Fakorode the former SARS Commander who has since been deployed to Kaduna state to come down to Rivers State and render an apology to our people”, he noted.

You may note that Rivers State is one of the states in Nigeria with the highest incidents of SARS brutality, intimidation, forceful extortion and fragrant abuse of the fundamental human rights of its citizens.

The Rivers State Government has ban all forms of #EndSARS protests across the state.

Commisioner of Information Paulinus Nsirim disclosed the news in a press statement on Monday.

“The Rivers State Government hereby wish to inform the general public that all forms of protests have been banned throughout the State.

“Therefore, all proposed protests under #EndSARS Campaign are hereby prohibited.
“Government took this decision because the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had already scrapped the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
“Therefore, there is no need for any form of protest against a Unit of the Police Force that no longer exists”, he noted.

He said: “Parents and Guardians are therefore advised to ensure that their children or wards do not violate this order.
“Law enforcement agencies are also directed to ensure that the ban is enforced and that violators are brought to book”.

Despite the dissolution of the Special Anti-robbery Sqaurd and other tactical units of the Nigerian Police Force by the Inspector General of Police, citizens and Civil Society groups have vowed to carry on with the #EndSARS protest in Rivers State and across the nation.
Protesters say they would carry on with the protest until there is an Executive order from President Muhammadu Buhari ending the operations of the infamous SARS unit of the Nigerian Police Force.

The call for #EndSARS gained momentum following numerous incidences of brutality, forceful extortion, intimidation, abuse of human rights and murdering of innocent citizens by perssonel of the SARS unit.

Other citizens have also joined the call for the prosecution of erring SARS officials who were culpable in the brutal murder of innocent citizens to ensure they are brought to book.

The Nigerian Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on the review of the 1999 constitution has called on the general public, the Executive, the Judiciary, professional bodies, interests groups and civil society organizations to submit memoranda for further alterations of the 1999 constitution.

You will recall that the president of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, in february, 2020 announced the membership of a 56-man Steering and Constitution Review Committee.

The committee has all principal officers as members; one Senator from each State of the Federation, and two Senators selected to represent each geo-political zone in the country.

Also in a circular issued by the Deputy Senate President and Chairman of the Review Committee Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, said that the Senate Ad-hoc committee therefore requests the general public, the executive, judiciary bodies, professionals bodies, civil society organisations and other interest groups to submit memoranda and proposals for further alteration(s) of the 1999 constitution (as amended) under the underlisted matters and any other matter that will promote good governance and welfare of all persons in the country on the principles of freedom, equity and justice, namely:

1. Gender equality for women and girls
2.The federal structure and power devolution

3. Local Government/Local government autonomy
4. Public revenue fiscal federalism & Revenue allocation
5. Nigerian Police and Nigerian security Architecture
6. Comprehensive judicial reforms
7. Electoral reforms to strengthen INEC to deliver transparently credible and free elections
8. Socio-economic and cultural rights as contained in chapters 2 of the constitution
9. Strengthening the Independence of oversight institutions and agencies created by the constitution or pursuant to an Act of the National Assembly

Officers to be arraigned in court today

The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed it’s members of the Eagle Crack Squad in Port Harcourt for unprofessional conduct in the line of duty.

This is coming as citizens have decried continued police brutality and abuse of human rights in their relations with the civil society.
Recall that late Chima Ikwunado an auto mechanic and spare part dealer in Ikoku Port Harcourt plus his other three friends were arrested in December 2019 by officers of the Eagle Crack sqaud.

Chima and his friends were arrested for driving against traffic in the Port Harcourt area of Rivers state, and was allegedly tortured to death at Mile 1 Police Station by officers of the Eagle Crack team led by SP Benson Adetuyi, who was later redeployed from Rivers state to forces headquarters.

In a press statement issued on Monday in Port Harcourt by Nnamdi Omoni Police Public Relations Officer on behalf of the Rivers state Comissioner of Police, the command said it has dismissed it’s officers in the Eagle Crack squared for allegedly torturing Chima Ikwunado to death and unlawfully inflicting various degrees of injuries on late Chima’s friends.

The statement reads:

“The Officers from the Eagle Crack Squad who allegedly tortured late Chima Ikwunador to death in December 2019 and unlawfully inflicted various degrees of injuries on, Ifeanyi Onyekwere ‘m’, Ogbonna Victor ‘m’, Ifeanyi Osuji ‘m’ and Osaze Friday ‘m’ have been dismissed by the Rivers State Police Command and will be charged to Court tomorrow for Conspiracy and Murder, among other Charges.
“The Officers who had gone through the processes of Orderly Room Trials were today de-kitted and dismissed from the Force, hence their arraignment.
Recall that the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph G. Mukan psc (+) in his Maiden Press Briefing on assumption of duty in the State, promised to address all cases of infractions and unprofessional conduct of the Officers and men of the Command, and to offer quality Policing Services to the State.
“The Dismissal of today is an eloquent demonstration of his transparency and avowed commitment to entrench Discipline in the Command, while appealing to the public to remain steadfast and continue to have Faith in the Police, by assisting us with useful information that will enhance our job.
Adding that his doors are open, as he welcomes constructive criticisms.

Governor Wike wonderd why a party would want to disqualify a seating Governor from contesting election while the same party campaigned for him four years ago.

He said: “Adams Oshiomole campaigned for Governor Obaseki four years ago. The same man has turned around to say that Obaseki has a defective certificate.

“Has Oshiomole apologized to Nigerians that he supported someone with a defective certificate? Who is saying that a sitting governor has a defective certificate? Is it a man that does not have a certificate?

” Oshiomole should be told to practice what he preaches.

“APC wants to perpetrate impunity in Edo State the way they unleashed terror in Rivers State in 2019.

“They think because they have the Army, Police and INEC they can do anything and get away with it.

“They tried it in Rivers State but God gave us the will to say no. I hope Edo people will also say no to their impunity,” he stated.

Governor Nyesom Wike further berated the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) for docility and her inability to speak up in solidarity for a member of its forum in the face of injustice and impunity.

He sited example of a rerun election in Rivers state when his aides were withdrawn from him thereby exposing him to danger, yet the forum didnt say anything.

The call for justice on the murder of late Chima Ikwunado, the detention and torture of the four Ikoku mechanics in Rivers State took a new dimension as the Rivers Civil Society Organization (RIVCSO) has renew it’s demand that justice be done on the matter.

You would note that Chima Ikwunado is one of the Ikoku four mechanics who were arrested alongside four of his friends by men of the Police Eagle crack team who later died in thier custody in January 2020.

In a press statement made available to Naijatvnet on Monday, the Chairman Rivers Civil Society Organization (RIVCSO) Comrade Enefa Georgewill distanced the organization from a purported out of the court settlement for the murder of Chima and the torture of the Ikoku four mechanics between the police and all parties involved.

The statement warned those it described as crises merchants to steer clear from the matter.

He said: “RIVCSO warns crises merchants to steer clear of this matter as we are poised in collaboration with other stakeholders to get justice for late Chima, his new born baby and the Ikoku four”.

The statement further advised the police officers not to fall prey to scammers should anyone approach them to further push for out of the court negotiation and settlement.


The RIVCSO regretted the matter was taking too long than expected.

The RIVCSO thereby called on the new Commissioner of Police in Rivers State CP Joseph Mukan to prosecute those found culpable in the death of Chima Ikwunado and torture of the Ikoku four mechanics.

He said: “We call on the Comissioner of Police to within two weeks prosecute the former commander of E-Crack Benson Adetuyi who informed the public that late Chima Ikwunado died of high blood sugar, and his gross violation of section 7 of the anti-torture act.

“Similarly we call for the prosecution of Sam Nnodim the Police IPO who charged the Ikoku mechanics to court for armed robbery, as well as the four other officers who carried out the torture at the E-Crack facility in January”. He said.
