Well I guess you weren’t honest in your response on birthing and she didn’t believe you hence the denial. If you have future plans for birthing, I believe it should have come out during this interview.
newmum:
My interview last month went thus:
Location: Abuja

Me: Good morning
VO: Good morning. Passport please
Me: hands over our passport (was with my 18months old baby)
VO: Are you traveling to Maryland alone?
Me: I’m traveling with my husband and baby for a family vacation
VO: where is your husband’s visa
Me: Hands over my husband’s passport(he had recently renewed his visa via Dropbox)
VO: where is your husband at the moment?
Me: At work
VO: How long do you intend to stay
Me: 2weeks
VO: (smiles) I grew up in Maryland... I love Maryland. Aside ... and ..., there is nothing else to do there. So why are you traveling to Maryland
Me: For a short family vacation. I have a friend in Maryland who promised to make our stay fun.
VO: oooh... now I get!
VO: Have you traveled outside Nigeria before?
Me: yes... Netherlands and Spain all in 2018
VO: why were you in Netherlands and Spain
Me: On business trips
VO: (he calls the company I work for) sent you on a business trip?
Me: yes
VO: how long were you on this trip
Me: 8weeks
VO: How long have you worked for xx
Me: 1yr +
VO: and within a year, xx sent you on a trip?
Me: Yes.
VO: I want to ask you a direct question now?
Me: Go ahead
VO: are you going to give birth in Maryland
Me: No. just going for a family vacation
VO: Your husband traveled to the US in xx
Me: yes
VO: why
Me: told him
Vo: so after your vacation, what next
Me: I will come back to Nigeria. I have a job her
VO: looks at his screen and after a while, say I regret to.... hands me the pink letters which states no strong ties back home.

We wanted to travel in July for the summer break. But that won’t be happening again. We intend having our next baby in US. and from what I can see now... interview date is from October. I’m not pregnant yet but should be before October based on agreement between stakeholders. Is it too early to reapply and book the October date for appointment? Cos I want to apply for a medical visa this time as the intention will be to give birth.. please. Any good thoughts on how to go about this will be appreciated, thanks guys

I get the argument and I support it, but you and I are speaking from positions of (relative) privilege. Nigeria is an incredibly difficult country, made so by a succession of governments indifferent to creating and maintaining boundaries that guide and protect its citizens. It is no one else's fault but ours; our leaders are born, bred and raised here. The values they display are ours.

Those who can escape do. And to be honest, if I could, I wouldn't be here either. Nigeria sucks. You are right though. It is no excuse for us to lie, cheat, steal our way out of this country.
. It this is a non immigrant visa thread and not an immigrant visa thread. If one is looking to leave the country, they should do it legally. The state of your country is not America’s problem.

Not to be rude but I never understand what you try to say. Why don’t you try using punctuation marks and autocorrect sometimes

Ahh! My POE was pretty smooth especially considering all the stories here and elsewhere about O’hare I prepared for the worst. I was done with the CoB in less than 2 mins. He basically asked what I was there for, told him to have my baby and he was like really? I chuckled, he smiled and asked for how much I had, told him. He asked if I had any doctor documents which I showed him. He stamped me in, wished me luck with the baby and that was it, I was in.

I was quite stunned for a few mins and stood and was waiting for further questioning but none came and I walked away.

Quite grateful to God but nairaland prepares me very much and exposed me to all the what nots and what could go wrong

You've not given us the POE transcripts. cheesy cheesy

Sorry about your son’s condition. Your situation sounds complicated. Considering you have some outstanding bill at the hospital and all, I’ll suggest you seek medical solution for your son in Nigeria or elsewhere while you process your visa.
Motherof1:
Hello good evening!!!
Please I need help!!!
In February 2017, I applied for a b1/b2 visa with my brother. We were supposed to travel in April. But we couldn’t. Then in October 2017 I got pregnant. I decided to use my visa to give birth. So I left for the states in april. Then in May, my brother came to the US with my mum via Chicago. There the Homeland security officer asked him about me, and why I’m still in the US. after long interrogations they checked him mums phone, because cane back and she waited for him, even though she had been stamped and they saw conversations between she and her friend, talking about if my brother was going to stay back in the states or not. Oh well their visas got revoked.
Well I had my baby there and paid the hospital bill. Of $4600. Doctors fee of $2900 and $685 for circumcision. Some months after, my friend got a letter that they refunded the $685 back to my dollar card in Nigeria.? I got my zero balance, but I still got another account the hospital had created, with an outstanding of $690. I’ve called to know why and they are telling me all sorts. Anyway, i intended going to the hospital when I go back to know what they are charging me for, even after I got reimbursed.
Anyway I did a Dropbox in December, eve though my visa was to expire in February. I did that because I wanted to travel towards the end of February, for my baby to see his doctor, because he’s been having respiratory issues.
Well I got called for interview in January. I scheduled a date and it was in April. I travelled out of the country(not the USA), and came back a month later, to attend my interview.
On the day of my interview, they said my name did not pop on the system. They transferred me to the officer who had a computer. When he checked, he said the embassy had rescheduled my appointment and if had passed(March 23). And I had to reschedule. I got home and called the embassy, to know how I was going To do it. They said they will unlock the receipt and I can use that same one.
They did and I got appointment for August. But now, my sons nose is still disturbing him. I just requested a letter for the hospital in the states and in Nigeria, so I can submit to the embassy an apply for an expedited appointment interview. Because he already had scheduled appointment with the doctor. Hopefully they grant me.
Well I just want to know if there’s anything anyone will advice I do or carry. Please i will really appreciate the help!!
God bless

I want to believe you quite understand what I meant. On your ds 160, you specifically stated whether b1 or b2. If You have a visa that states b1/b2 as expected, when you get to the POE, the CBP officer will stamp the kind of visa whether B1 or B2 when you are accepted. That will not give you unnecessary panic or fear as your ds 160 that the CBP officer has access to will state the purpose of your visit. You have said you are going for conference and you are granted the visa for that purpose. But you show up again with a different purpose that your B1 doesn't cover. B1 doesn't cover any medical in whatever form. Yes they are conjoined but your application specifically states which you apply for.

Things have changed quickly from 2017 and 2019. So better to do the right than travels thousand of miles and be sent back home. The trauma can be traumatic cheesy cheesy. I am talking from my experience. My colleague was sent back home. Again, when I was stamped in March 2019, the stamp states B1 as thats what I applied for. Ask anybody who travelled recently, the stamp has the class of visa. So thread gently. grin grin

This is correct. My stamp at poe said b2.

Yes, me. Applied for a b2 visa for the specific purpose of birth and nothing else. Got it too.
nimcote:

But B1/B2 are conjoined Visa, is there anyone here going to the US to give birth that has just B2 Visa

Ahmadrc:

i post my POE experience already direct after arrival on the spirit of giving back (but i am searching now it is not there may be deleted or i cannot find it )
previous for my wife 2 years not 5 , for me is 5 and i am not in Nigeria (this is global thread grin)but this is not my question , my question about the short term visa for only 3 months is this normal ? and if you are in my shoes what you will do ?

I have seen a 1 week visa with condition so anything is possible. If ure not looking to use it for other purpose, from what you states at your interview, i believe the 3 months should be enough?

Hello people so after spending almost the whole of my day contacting hospitals in Chicago and calling doctors to book and get correspondence i have come to the conclusion that some of us are the cause of our problems. I dont mean to offend anyone but someone's action might and will affect the other. Imagine hospitals saying they have stopped receiving patients from international countries or they cant give you any correspondence or email whatsoever when they hear you are Nigerian. It's truly exhausting.

I will suggest you call the embassy and ask these questions. State your history and why you are looking to apply for a b2 visa ( to be upfront about your intentions). Only they can guide you authoritatively.

Anything told to you here will be heresay/ guess work which will not be 100% reliable. Goodluck.

Just to say, a b2 visa is pretty specific to the intention of the non immigrant while a b1/b2 is more general. With a b2 visa, going through immigration and travel in general will be easier cos it’s clear what your intention is. I just got into Chicago yesterday on a b2 visa and immigration was a breeze. Was out in 2 mins.
aamey15:
Hello everyone, so i proceeded to apply for a B2 visa, i havent gotten a date yet but i have applied on the Website. My issue now is people are saying that since i have a valid B1B2 visa, even if i apply for a B2 visa i will still be issued a B1B2 visa. That applying for a new visa when i still have a valid one makes no sense and waste of money. My current visa expires in December 2019.

I am just confused at this point sef.

Biko guys come to my aid oo, since i have a valid visa i dont need to apply for a new one. that its only when it expires and i want to go give birth that is when i will apply specifically for B2 visa.

Friends in the house help crack this ooo....

I will advise you stay away from agents entirely. Read up, ask and find out how to do it yourself. I used an agent for hospital and doctor’s confirmation. Guess what? The confirmation letter I got was bogus, the appointment was never confirmed. So imagine my surprise as I am preparing to travel and I call the hospital to reconfirm my appointment and they don’t have my name in their system. Imagine that happened at POE, I will be on the next plane back to Naija. Thankfully, I had booked other hospitals and doctors so I just used that instead. I’ll strongly advise everyone to do it themselves. No value add using an agent.
Youngjenny:
i decided to try agents as its my first time(being a mum and going to the us but not virgin passport) but the prices they were calling just brought me back to nairaland. you have to pay their birth fees in full regardless of if you get the visa or not which is just a waste. And they were not honest at first telling me birthing will cost 2500 it was when i kept asking that they said its for clinics and medical center not hospitals. so ill try my luck with US and if i don't get it, then maybe i may use them for canada. i find the whole process daunting.

Okay so you mean agents can get doctors appointment from Cook county. Just to be sure. Thank you.

uote author=Nersh post=76659827]

I used an agent.

I don’t know if agents can get appointment from John Stroger. What I meant is my agent got me the doctor documents and appointment but it wasn’t from John Stroger.

You can also go online and check for doctors and hospitals and get a sense. I did the same despite getting the agent to provide me information and have connected with other doctors and hospitals to have options. You just need to do the research

I have been a silent reader of this thread and it has been extremely helpful in guiding me as i prepare for my baby’s birth in the US. I decided to share my interview with the VO:
VO: good afternoon, passport please. Why r u going to the US?
Me: afternoon. To have my baby. Hands over passport
VO: where else have you travelled to?
Me: UK, SA, dubai, Mauritius etc
VO: for holiday?
Me: Not only. School, work.
VO: ok. So where will you be staying in the US and do you have your doctor’s documents?
ME: will be staying with an uncle in Chicago. Hands over doctor’s correspondence and budget sheet over. I had a budget of about $12k for medicals.
VO: ok. Reviews docs. Looks at a list on her wall seems to be a list of procing for medicals across cities. So what do you do and how much do you earn per month.
Me: tells her.
VO: thank you. You have been approved for a visa and you can pick up in 3 days at VI. Also please beware of discounts when you go as this might affect your duture chances of renewing your visa.

I thank her, say i have seen that in some of my research and will do well to heed her warning.

She wishes me well with the baby and i leave. This was over in 5 minutes.

It seems this discount issue is a big deal. And intwreatingly, all the hospitals i have contacted have. Discount for self pay patients. The only one who didnt was quoting $50k.

Not sure what to do but will wait till 2 years time to worry.

Now waiting for my POE
