The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has broken his silence on his preferred aspirant for the governorship ticket of the party in Lagos State. Tinubu made his position known in a statement he personally signed on Sunday. The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decided to hold its national convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, on Friday said the Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, and the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Aisha Al-Hassan, popularly known as Mama Taraba, were not cleared to stand for the governorship primaries of their states in order to protect the core values of the party. After the emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee at the national headquarters in Abuja on Friday, the People’s Democratic Party has insisted on Port Harcout, Rivers State, as the venue for its National Convention. The convention which will produce PDP’s presidential candidate for the 2019 elections is scheduled for October 5-6, 2018. The party had earlier announced Port Harcout as the venue for the convention but the choice of the venue was protested by some members of the party with claims that the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, is supporting one of the presidential aspirants. Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose on Friday alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Police and other security agencies were compromised in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the recently-concluded Osun state governorship election. The World Bishops Council (WBC), Africa, has cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to kill the country’s democracy being nurtured since 1999, noting that the reported manipulation of the results of the recent Osun State governorship election should be a major concern to all.
