Governor Rochas Okorocha been the campaign coordinator of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo state has been suspended by the National Working Committee (NWC) Lanre Issa-Onilu, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, on Sunday said “the APC had directed governors to take over the campaign of the party in the state. Where it has no governor, it directed governorship candidate to take over. Since Okorocha has displayed anti-party traits, you can’t expect him to be part of our strategic meetings again.” The National Publicity Secretary said a committee had been raised to this effect, and the party would not hesitate to do the bidding of the committee. Chieftains of Ohaneze Ndigbo are split over the purported endorsement of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, by the organisation. The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC), Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, said that the commission was not under pressure to do what was wrong. The President of the umbrella body of the Nigerian lawyers, Mr. Paul Usoro (SAN), described the development in a statement late on Saturday, as a “targeted assault of the judiciary by the agents of the Federal Government”. The Police have obtained an order of the Federal Capital Territory High Court to detain Senator Dino Melaye for 14 days. This was disclosed on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, who also said Melaye had been moved to another facility, which is the clinic of the Department of State Services in Abuja. According to earlier information, Melaye was moved from the Police Hospital in Abuja at about 2:15pm on Friday by masked security operatives.
