lol, dis one funny small, of course na tief dey sell someting wey no belong to am.

Me thing say if CBN sell de 5 banks wey fail, dem no be tief.  make I refresh memory in case people don forget de reason why Sanusi, with him rascality, take over the banks. According to CBN and Sanusi:
, As at June 4, 2009 when I assumed office as Governor of the CBN, the total amount outstanding at the Expanded Discount Window was N256.57billion most of which was owed by the 5 banks.

A review of the activity at the EDW showed that four banks had been almost permanently locked in as borrowers and were clearly unable to repay their obligations.   .e.t.c

if CBN no inject the N420 inside the failed banks, dem go collapse. Basically, all de banks dey insolvent. de only choice wey dem get na to go bankrupt. now, na where dat one go leave depositors not to talk of the rest of de economy.

de only choice wey CBN get na to seize de banks, replace management, and den help dem find new ways to recapitalize. if de process mean say, foreigners go provide some of the capital, all well and good. If fact, me tink say, e no dey possible to recapitalize all 5 banks without foreign investment.

de truth be say, in a weird way, the failure of these banks go benefit the economy as a whole as soon as foreign money begin enter to buy the banks. All of a sudden a few $billion go enter the economy and e go even get positive effect on forex rates.

So make dem find buyers including foreign buyers quick quick. we dey watch dem. make we try comot tribalism for our analysis for a change, biko.

The so-called crime commited by the 5 md/ceo are not worth compared to those of the bankers in the developed economy that crashed recently. lets ask ourselves why these countries did not sack a single bank executive in spite of the magnitude of their perceived crime.

why must you just select 5 banks and put them in your custody why the rest are currently been investigated?

as a matter of fact, all nigerian banks do what the 5 has been said to commit and sanusi know ever since when he was md of first bank.

The other banks will have time to quickly tidy up their messes now and later sanusi may say nothing was found againts them. Is this justice? lets be honest.

The truth will definately be unveiled.

Why was vanguard the only newspaper of its category that was not invited to follow sanusi to UK?

Lets open our eyes o, something definately is going on.

i personally know so many banks that are far more worse that the indicted 5 banks.

@naijaking1: you know say dat kind decision no go be based on lies. no be only Sanusi make de decision, the CBN board members join make the decision. besides, I no here the fired CEOs dispute de fact say dem don broke.

@holymike47: every Chairman of CBN must to have critics and people wey disagree with de tings wey him do, or how him implement policies. inasmuch as him never break law, we must give am chance. trust me, Sanusi don step on too many big toes already and if him dey carry out illegal activities, him no go last for office.

lol. why you dey gi me more credit than wettin I deserve na?  you surprise me small because I no hear you blame the sacked CEOs and their accomplises (aka directors) wey already ruin de banks, but instead na minor me and Sanusi you dey blame. na de same ting wey una do when dem arrest Alami-wonder. Instead make una blame am for all de money wey him steal, una dey blame efcc say dem no arrest X, or Y, or Z.

de truth be say, those CEOs detroyed de banks. secondly, de actions wey Sanusi take, dey legal, at least until dem change de laws. me I dey ready to give Sanusi and de rest of the CBN board benefit of de doubt.  If any court find say Sanusi and co, break law, I go support make dem throw dem inside jail along with de remaining rogues.

As far as your dear fired CEOs, no worry, many of dem no go rot for jail, I sure say lawyers go find one technicality or de other wey dem go take free dem - thanks to the rascality (make I borrow baba OBJ terminology) wey Sanusi take handle de situation.

But tell me honestly, you gree say the fired CEOs dey responsible for those bad loans or na Sanusi way make dem gi out de bad loans? make we focus on that one first. if you gree say the CEOs dey responsible, na wettin be the befitting punishment wey dem deserve?

A separate issue gaba daya, na how Sanusi take handle the situation. As I been talk before,  Sanusi acted very swiftly and na him prerogative( make I troway small grammer)  to handle situation like dat. Another Chairman fit do am differently. Inasmuch as Sanusi never commit crime, na only time go tell weather Sanusi na genius or brainless Alhaji.

ngwanu, answer my questions to you - de one wey dey 2 paragraphs above dis one. if your answer wrong, den I go suspect say you sef don follow take awoof loan. cheesy

banks in europe had their management moved around and some left

its the EFCC that is putting them in custody not CBN, and the 5 were the worse of the lot

Yea the other banks do what they are accused of but these ones do it with impunity!!!

the other banks wont have time to quickly tidy up as the audit is for periods sanusi came into office

yea the truth will be unvield

newspapers have limited invite they share it amongst themselves- and vanguard is not a paper you invite to
serious meeting anyway especially as it is owned by these guys

This CEO'S have been charged to court for this offences, but no one here has the right to say they re guilty. That is why so many ppl think there is so much to it than meets the eye.
Let due process take its cause and we will see how they will be charged,am sure maybe N10,000 like the case of tafa etc grin

tunde300us, e be like say you no sabi read broken. na for where i say de CEOs guilty of any crime? de ting wey i talk be say, dem dey responsible for de bad loans wey dem give. if you be CEO and you make de kind bad loan decision wey bring down de bank and stiff shareholders, methinks you go deserve to be fired.

as for whether de CEOs commit crime in de process, courts go determine dat. if dem guilty make dem rot for prison. if Sanusi sef commit crime as him take handle these affairs, make dem sentence am to jail too.

make una no let tribalism becloud una otherwise good judgement and analysis. shikena.

naijaking1,

common suppose to tell you say, every new head of CBN, dey reorganize the consitution of the board members, so that most of de members go align with de vision wey him get. So if sanusi replaced 2 out of dem, no be his prerogative be dat? if dem fire you sef, you no go scream say na unjust firing? abeg make we see road.

Until you prove say sanusi commit any crime, I go still give am benefit of the doubt. my advise to you na to try see issues from detribalized lenses.

Also, make una try separate EFCC action from CBN action. That Sanusi fired de CEOs, no be crime, since him get legal authority to do so, at least until supreme court say de law wey apply, dey unconstitutional. na EFCC arrest your buddy CEOs, no be sanusi. If dem guilty of money laundering and financial crimes, make dem rot for jail.

ol' boy, smelling a rat no dey enough to justify de actions of de CEOs wey dey squarely responsible for bringing de banks down to their knees. you don begin bring other banks inside de conversation. try focus on these 5 banks for one minute:

Did any of de fired CEOs dispute de fact say na loans from CBN dem dey take operate, before Sanusi fire dem? And if Sanusi and CBN no gi dem billions of naira in loans to keep dem afloat, no be say dem go go bankrupt? we fit discuss other banks and Sanusi style, wey me i don call rascality, some other time. but bad ting na bad ting, the CEOs dey squarely responsible for taking de banks down. I suspect say dem dey in collusion with de debtors sef, na de reason wey EFCC lock dem up be dat. why all of a sudden, CBN recover N70billion, within 2 weeks?

FG may acquire shares in 9 rescued banks
Written by Mohammed S. Shehu, with agency report
[Minister of Finance]

Minister of Finance
Federal Government may acquire shares in some of the nine troubled banks recently rescued with a N600 billion bailout in the last two months if the institutions fail to recapitalise or find buyers, but are deemed systemically important, the government said yesterdays.

The Finance Ministry said while trying to build confidence in the banking sector, it would aim for successful bank restructuring which would entail preserving the payment system, ensuring there are functional banks and making sure troubled assets are managed and disposed off appropriately.

“In the event that some of the affected banks are unable to recapitalise and successfully go through a merger and acquisition, the government may acquire shares in such banks, if they are deemed systemically important,” the ministry said in a statement made available to international news agency Reuters.

“Thereafter, government equity will be sold at the earliest possible opportunity.”

Central Bank Governor Lamido Sanusi told Reuters in August his preferred option for the first five banks rescued would be for them to be purchased by other financial institutions.

The Central Bank has injected nearly N600 billion in the nine banks and sacked their senior management for recklessly granting loans and lax governance that left them so undercapitalised they posed a systemic risk.

The bank executives are that of the Union Bank of Nigeria, Intercontinental Bank Plc, FinBank Plc, AfriBank Plc and Oceanic Bank International, Bank PHB Plc, Equatorial Trust Bank Plc and Spring Bank.

The Finance Ministry and the Central Bank have repeatedly said no Nigerian bank would be allowed to fail.

“Thereafter, government equity will be sold at the earliest possible opportunity.”

its seems tribalism is synonymous with silly.ty

what kind of twisted mind can turn buying of shares in banks  by the federal government (not private individuals, not private companies, not other banks) into a northern agenda?

and the last time  i checked, the daily/weekly trust is a northern newspaper

odd that those abokis would be ratting each other out

i guess a  diseased mind will see conspiracies everywhere

you just can't win - if sanusi folds his hands and lets the banks fail that too will be northern agenda

mr conspiracy theory

you are claiming northern agenda

explain to me in your line by ine style

why a northern newspaper will expose the so called northern agenda

explain how a government buying into , not taking over a private company constitutes a northern agenda

that would be better than one liners 'and the spin begins '
