Barca and Madrid have two of the worst defences and poorest defenders in La liga. They just don't get tested often enough. Both teams overwhelm the opposition with their attack, and can't sit back and defend a lead even if their lives depended on it. That is why they often lose games in which their attack is misfiring.

and BTW Valdez is a basket; he doesnt even make the spanish bench.

And that doesn't say well about ya know how. . . . . Why did u suddenly forget how much you middle protects your defence?
You Midfield is where you potency lies and they are the ones i give kudos to for your touted defensive solidity.
Barca holds onto the ball hence denying opposing teams the possesion to harm them with.
Watch your game at Finals against Man U in last season's UCL same as the game against Chelsea

Alves, Maxwell, and Marcelo are poor defenders, and only make up for it with their offensive contributions. Arbeloa is decent defensively and versatile, while Abidal is obviously past his prime.
Ramos is a good defender with the potential to be great, but his lapses in concentration are often calamitous.
Albiol is the best central defender at Madrid and is no where near the likes of Ferdinand or Nester. Pepe is a good athlete but a poor defender.
Milito is the best central defender at Barca but has been unfortunate with his recent injuries. Marquez is decent when fit. Puyol's enthusiasm and versatility hides his inadequacies, while Pique is simply overrated.

One major positive is that in Yaya, Lass, and Gago they have some of the best (and young) DMs around. Mascherano is probably the oly one of their peers that is better. These really helps in shielding the back lines.

I advise you watch some of the goals conceded (or almost conceded) by either team, before giving their defence a pass mark. The key to their success is keeping the ball away from the opposition (i.e. barca) or posing frequent goal threat (madrid), so much that the opposition spends most of the time in their own half.

No way jare. Milito is NOT the best central defender @ Barcelona. Far from it. He is Overrated in my opinion.

Most full backs in the world are better going forward than they are defending evra,maicon e.t.c. You would have had a point saying Abidal was past his best last season,however this season he has been superb. He ain't great but he is solid going both ways.

Gago is also the most overrated defensive midfielder known to Man. He is shyte. It's an insult to Fernando Redondo that this guy was actually seen to be as good if not better than him.

Pepe is actually a good defender . I'll rather blame Madrid's midfield for making him look average. Apart from Lass last season,madrid's midfield was basically shitty.

Real Madrid defenders looks worse than they actually are because the team does not defend collectively.

I wonder why you will compare Foster or Kitkat with Valdes. . . . .didn't start football at the same time and Valdes sure has seen more playing times
Meanwhile as internations, Kitkat shits all over Valdes for Poland!!
