@Pidzo @Ilish, The new software for SRT 4930HD is great. Thanks!with the upgrade, It is now DIVX enabled so I just packed some DIVX films on my usb drive, connected it to the 4930HD and pressed F1 on the remote and can then play the DIVX films!I'm sure there are other changes too!I will also like to know how I can store these movies on the decoder so I won't have to be using the usb stick!I have more than 100 divx films! |

@ all guru, pls is it possible for 2 subscribers of any pay tv to share one satellite dish without using loopout and twin Lnbf, I tried all I could lastnite but all to no avail, I used EUROSTAR 4 way splitter to send signal to the Decoders but it was only one that got signal while the other keeps on Scanning 1 of 1 |
Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 5 - The Final Part) by Pidzo(m): 7:48am On May 27, 2011 |
@Ilish This is also a great puzzle to me. All those that got theirs from MyTv Malawi (who get all their supplies from MyTv Zambia) say its not authentic Really? @Sholatech I would advise you to buy a bigger usb harddrive (say 500Gb) if you can manage, then connect it. U wont have to transfer your recordings or movies to and from PC. |
Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 5 - The Final Part) by GeorgeD1(m): 8:23am On May 27, 2011 |
@Sun-sat, Yes, more than one subscribers can share one dish using using either twin, quad or 8-way lnbf. All you have to do is connect each output from the lnb to the decoder of each subscriber and you are done. They can be operated seperately and you don't need a splitter unless you want to tie the decoders together using their respective RF outputs. |

@ illish @ pidzo According to a member of RDI forum the former software for SRT 4930 i.e. 112 of 14-4-2011 had some problems and was affecting the receiver in the following way: ** It can now record only 2 channels simultaneously instead of the original 3. ** There is a bug that seems to limit timer recordings to less than 10 minutes. ** The preview window while checking recordings is black blank and only plays if you press OK. ** Sometimes the stb freezes when you play a media file (F1 button). ** The audio is very low compared to SRT 4669 and 4910 I have noted that you have upgraded your SRT 4930 with the latest software namely 115p dated 25-5-2011. Kindly please find out if the above problems have been eliminated. Stopping a recording is what annoys me most because the receiver freezes completely. Also you can not preview your recordings in the small preview window on top right hand corner. |

Additionally, the program has a mechanism for calculating the azimuth of the sun and you can do everything without a compass now! The azimuth is calculated for the location the coordinates of which you specified for calculating the azimuths of satellites. You can specify the date (the current date is taken by default) and calculate how the sun moves with a one minute discontinuity. The calculation results are displayed in the table to the left. Both the azimuth and the elevation are calculated for the sun for the current moment of time. Thus, you can install the satellite dish without a compass at all. First, find the azimuth of the satellite you need. Then calculate the azimuth of the sun for the day on which you are going to install the dish. Find the azimuth of the sun that is most close to the azimuth to the satellite and you will see the time (and date) when the sun will be in the same direction where the satellite is. Turn the dish to the sun at the specified moment of time, the azimuth of the sun coincides with the azimuth of the satellite at this moment. Or just note this direction and install the dish later. Remember to specify your time zone for calculation (Moscow: +3 GMT). The program also calculates the azimuths of the sunrise and sunset, as well as the time and elevation when the sun is exactly in the south, Isn't Ihis Interesting! |

George_D:@ George_D, I want to understand if twin Lnb is the only solution, What I did was splitting the signal from the lnbf with a splitter, now from the splitter, I send signal to each Lnb input of the two Decoder, then one receives Signal but the other was tryng to Established a signal though the weather was down with misty cloud, the decoder in question is Dstv DSD1131, now you made mention of using RF output, will they two subscribers be independent to change channels without inconveniencing each other |
Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 5 - The Final Part) by Ameboperoo(m): 12:23pm On May 27, 2011 |
Sun-sat:Sun-sat. Your best option is to use dual or quad lnbf as the case may be. Looping out may pose the challenge of polarity conflict between the decoders and it may even burn your lnb if you dont set the lnbf power of one of all the slave decoders to "off". This is IMHO. @all. I've tried the frq of NTA listed on IS 907 and 905 on lynsat but no result. is anybidy still receiving them? |

Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 5 - The Final Part) by ugotuf(m): 1:45pm On May 27, 2011 |
do exactly what george has told you!get a 2way or quad lnbf and distribute to each receiver a line from the lnbf and you will be fine ,but any thing done otherwise will endanger the life of your lnbf as you might be sending more power than needed to the poor single lnbf.goodluck |

sholatech: The DIVX function has always been there.I am just studying the whole software for now. Will make my comments later. ugasat: You are right. The previous version have been failures.I have discovere that even the 115p version still has a blank window for recorded data and only plays when you press the OK button. As for Audio, it still falls far short of what 109p could do.A studying it as well |

ugasat: Ilish:Hi All, I've also found some bugs in the new softwares of the 4910.Precisely the 243p and the 244p software versions. It pertains to the new button that allows you to switch directly to the scanning menu right from the dish setting menu. What happens is when you switch from the dish setting menu to the scanning menu and you return back to the dish setting menu, make a different change and try to save the settings, the receiver will go off and reboot on it's own without saving that particular setting. You can try it several times and it will still come out the same.Nowadays the errors are becoming a bit too much. |
Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 5 - The Final Part) by odilibe(m): 7:21pm On May 27, 2011 |
Ilish:But it has allready been achieved .The only difference in this case is that the lnb is line up horizontal on a straight line, this is a method of dish installation in the uk to pick 28.2east ,23.5east,19.2east,16east and 13east cos most european satellites has strong transponders example astra @28.2east, of-course most people on this forum has upto 2 to 4 lnbs attached on their prime focus dish vertically etc. |
Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 5 - The Final Part) by Pidzo(m): 7:29pm On May 27, 2011 |
I agree with Swordswifter about the errors in software updates nowadays. Its amazing that the same kind of bug is carried on to the next version. May be we should understand the software writers as they are looking at different models of receivers at the same time. I was hoping that this latest version of 4930 would also carry picture in picture as the 4669x just as they introduced internet connectivity to the 4669x. One thing which I also hate about these software is when you go to Blind scanning. You select a satellite by pressing ok. It just highlights the selected satellite and you need to press the volume key to move it to the proper menu. I thought it was supposed to go directly there the moment you hit Ok just like in Fortecstar and other receivers. Just thinking aloud |

Currently there has been a big silence regarding the much talked about New Dawn from Intelsat. Their last press release regarding this satellite was on 3 May when they announced the reflector problem. Looks like our hopes are dashed for now. May be we should look at Yahsat Y1 which was launched together with New Dawn. Read the quote below: " Yahsat Y1, the first satellite to be operated by the United Arab Emirates' Al Yah Satellite Communications company, was released 27 minutes into the flight. The Astrium-built satellite carries a mixture of Ku-band and C-band transponders and will operate out of an orbital slot of 52.5 degrees east. With a coverage footprint across the Middle East, Africa, and Southwest Asia, Yahsat Y1A will support Abu Dhabi's efforts to become a media broadcasting and telecommunications hub, delivering services for government, commercial, and consumer satellite communications capabilities." PS: What I dont understand is why do they still put satellites up there when there are plenty which are under utilised like Rascom 1r, Nss 5, Nss 7, Intelsat 906, etc. Some satellites don't even have a working channel (check on Lyngsat) |

Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 5 - The Final Part) by Ilish(m): 10:15pm On May 27, 2011 |
@Pidzo,most of these empty satellite have outlived their usefulness. They might have reached the end of their lifespan eg Intel 4 (which malfunctioned and fell to earth) and Intel 7/10 whose lifespan has only 2 more yrs to go and such Intel 20 will rollout to replace it.Other reasons why other satellites are under-utilized are due to uplink facility location, costs of tp,footprint (beam) and technical backups. |
