President Goodluck Jonathan. on Friday, marked 100 days in office, but it went unnoticed without fanfare unlike state governors are wont to do.
The President was sworn in on May 6 this year, a day after President Umaru Yar’Adua was pronounced dead.

Some of the notable things Jonathan has done in the last 100 days include measures to guarantee free and fair elections in 2011 such as the appointment of a credible chairman and national electoral commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission as well as ensuring that funds are made available for a new voters register; action to fulfill the promise of regular power supply to Nigerians through the Presidential Task Force on Power headed by a sector specialist, Prof. Barth Nnaji; and restoring normalcy to the downstream sector of Nigeria’s oil sector and ending of the queues at fuel stations across the country.

Other achievements are consolidating Nigeria’s banking sector reforms and strengthening its financial sector through the establishment of the Assets Management Company of Nigeria; forging a consensus among the three tiers of government for the creation of a Sovereign Wealth Fund that will facilitate sustainable economic growth and development; and raising $5.2 billion from the International Development Association to finance the provision of critical infrastructure.

To keep the economy on an even keel, President Jonathan also realigned the 2010 national budget with current financial realities by working with the National Assembly to adjust expenditure levels; disbursing N130 billion to commercial banks for the refinancing of loans granted to small and medium scale enterprises; sustaining the disbursement of the N200 Billion Agricultural Development Fund; and maintaining peace in the Niger Delta through implementation of the re-orientation and rehabilitation programme for former militants, among other actions.

On the global stage, the administration has repositioned Nigeria to reassume its leadership role in African affairs and its rightful place as a major player in the comity of nations. Jonathan currently chairs the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Group of Eight Developing Nations.
The country also held the Presidency of the United Nations Security Council for July 2010.

It is really hard to believe it's been only 100 days - he has been everywhere and touched on many issues.

I am still on the fence about him for 2011, but between him and IBB he wins hands down - we 'll see what other serious contenders are out there.

Claiming that GJ readjusted the budget is a smokescreen. The initial budget he proposed was overinflated. Okonjo-Iweala, SLS and Remi Babalola complained about the unrealistic oil-price benchmark as soon as the budget was drawn up. Two weeks later, Jonathan simply fell in line by readjusting the budget.

I dont need to add that the Haliburton scandal has been completely swept under the carpet.

So far, all of Jonathans visible work has been a machavellian realigning of PDP to ensure that he secures the 2011 mandate. This started with the sacking of Ogbulafor, and the hounding of Ibori and Bankole. In addition, choosing Sambo as his VP was a machiavellian orchestration to ensure that the new Christian Governor of Kaduna would deliver the state for him; as his chances of winning Kaduna under a muslim Governor are slim to none.

I dare say that if he spends as much time delivering for the people as he does strategising for 2011, he would be the greatest Nigerian leader so far, but just like the evil genius IBB, all his energy and mental faculty seem to employed toward the sole aim of political survival.

God bless you Ibime. We have not always agreed in this forum but I have never doubted your honesty and most of your positions are clearly supported by logical analysis.

Jonathan Goodluck has spent more time on Politicis of Survival and succeeding himself instead of delievering the goods.

Good Governance, Good Policies is Good Politics. But Jonathan and his handlers don't seem to realise this fact. Triangualations and Calculations will not get Jonathan anywhere. The best way to defeat political foes was to stand for what was right, but Jonathan failed to see this.

If we could look at the last 100days and say hand on heart Jonathan has raised the bar of leadership. This country would have been committing a cardial sin if he does not get re-elected. But now all we got is a man who does nothing else but engage in maccavelian tactics.

Mark my word, all these shenanigans will get him only so close but he will never get there. Nigeria is more complicated than Jonathan thinks it is.

On Tuesday, Mr Jonathan, gave the go-ahead for the construction of a new National SuperGrid that will address most of the country’s current power transmission problems.

The president made this decision after receiving projections of an increase in power supply to 6939 MW by April 2011 and 14019 MW by December 2013, submitted by the Presidential Task Force on Power. The new 700 KV SuperGrid, which is to be completed in four years at a projected cost of $3.5 billion, is expected to fulfil Nigeria’s need of increased power supply.

This sounds like the kind of politics that obtains in Iran. JONATHAN DOES NOT HAVE THE DEVINE RIGHT TO BE PRESIDENT IN 2011. NOBODY DOES. You guys just need to get this into your heads. Its democracy, the highest office in the land has to be earned.

There is no point wasting everyone's time and money pretending there will be a free and fair election when the evidence shows the countrary. If he wants to forcefully seize power with allowing the Nigerian people to choose their next President he should do so now and call of the next election so that it is clearer to the Nigerian people what we are up against.

He has to earn it and till date he has not done anything all our past failed leaders have not done whether good or bad. And yet we know our hostory in the last 50years.

I think both sides are making wild allegations here and trying their level best to minimize the other party. His action with regard to INEC were certainly commendable - I hope somebody is not suggesting that GJ & National Assembly hold back funds that Jega claimed is imperative for an election in 4 months. The selection of Jega himself was highly regarded, so those were achievements no matter how small.

I don't think you ever take the recommendations of a group of people hook, line and sinker - they have perspectives like everybody else. Many of those calling for implementation of the Uwais report have probably not read it - I haven't either.

On the other hand those claiming GJ is the best thing to happen to Nigeria must be dreaming dreams. He certainly was part of the Yar'adua fiasco in some way, and his queit approach to things may have been taken too far during that period that begged for national leadership - but we also all knew he was not in a position of strength. He has made some decisions that show he is not well coordinated - for I don't see how you announce you want to borrow $5.24 billion almost simultaneously with buying 3 (not 1) presidential jets, when we have just consumed $20 billion worth of excess crude reserves in less than 2 years (that was supposed to be extra money apart from budget).

At the same time, he is yet to outline a broad vision for Nigeria. None of the other candidates, except may be IBB, has outlined any kind of vision either. Before I forget, IBB's vision is gibberish and consists only of him in Aso Rock as the big dog once more.

All told, the last 100 days was a breath of fresh air compared with the fiasco of the previous 100 and the government since 2007.  Whether GJ is good long-term investment for Nigeria is all relative.  Let the really serious contenders stand up  - NOW! There is only 4 months to elections.
