In courtesy of ezeagu's thread, I decided to look online for some Yoruba videos and i found some funny ones.

Only Yoruba speakers with a deep knowledge of the language can get how these speakers distorted the language.

They try sha.

One of the reasons why those born abroad often give up on learning their mother tongue. angry embarassed

Never occurs to me to laugh at any of my relatives when they speak English with Yoruba accent.

They really ought to be applauded and encouraged. Many of our youngsters in Nigeria couldn't do as well in many cases.

Ikeyman, pronounce oil for me. If you say "Oyel" I definitely know that no two birds bear a hawk, obviously a son of a gun across a river Niger.
Re: Funny Yoruba Language Learners. by delpee(f): 10:48pm On Sep 25, 2011
Funny thread but their effort to learn is worthy of praise. Many don't bother. Some are even here pretending to be oyinbo.

Titi is one of the Americans learning in Unibadan. Seems they are on a years sabbatical (or whatever) from their universities abroad. They all acquired yoruba names. She was shown chatting with people on the road a while ago. Very funny and friendly girl!

But sometimes i think foreign govts encourage their people to learn other languages cos it may be useful for security and investigation purposes.

Even Ileke -Idi herself, how much Yoruba can she speak? Youth of this generation can't just speak the hardcore anymore and unfortunately, they feel proud for not being able to speak their language.

I have not met any Yoruba that falls within my scope in Yoruba language for a long time.

When u use vocabularies like Faraan, Oniganbe, lakalaka, alumogaji, toto, iyewu, aha, okiti-ogan, gaaru, opalamba etc they look at u as if u are speaking a different language. Can u ask ur to-be teacher Ileke Idi if she knows the meaning of those vocabularies?

Shame!
