@ pitodenz, whats usually wrong with your MTN number during mid-nite hour, i've been trying giving you a call for the past few days and all i got to hear is that your number is not available, we've got to discuss based on the C-band issue. @ all, Eutelsat w3a is very difficult to track here in the coastal region with any dish less than 90cm, but most of the ku-band dishes that traders sell for us as 90cm are not usually up to 90cm and that will surely give an installer some issues tracking that bird. One can get an accurate 90cm dish size from any designated DSTV authorised sellers, so with that i can assure you that the satellite can be tracked with that. I will be tracking one (Eutelsat W3A) for a fellow Nairalnder tomorrow, and luckily for me he is to surrender his DSTV dish for me to use in the tracking, so after that i'm gonna give the whole house the feedback tomorrow. Check this link to confirm my findings http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/ew3a_afr.html Thanks all. |
Re: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by Enigma(m): 11:58am On Mar 07, 2008 |
When trying to track Eutelsat W3A 7e, the correct elevation is crucial i.e. how the dish face upwards. If you are lucky the dish should have a scale (i.e. elevation markings) at the back. If so roughly the elevation angles for some parts of Nigeria are roughly: Lagos - 81 Port Harcourt - 84 Sokoto - 74 Remember, these are not absolute figures and one might need to adjust the dish elevation around these numbers. Also, anyone can check the dish elevation (and azimuth) for their location by typing their location roughly (e.g. ikeja, Nigeria) into, and selecting the satellite they are after in the dropdown menu of, www.dishpointer.com |

Re: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by Enigma(m): 4:30pm On Mar 07, 2008 |
Hi ltechniger LNB 'skew' means how you twist the LNB. Remember that the LNB is the bit/thing in front pointing at the dish; it is what takes the signals from the dish and sends them through the cable to the receiver. Because the satellites are lined up in an arc, for the LNB to fully and accurately receive the signal from a particular satellite, it should sometimes be twisted/turned to an angle similar to that of the satellite in the arc. Sometimes the signal of a satellite is so strong that LNB skew is not important; at other times the signal is weak which means LNB skew may be crucial. Generally if the satellite is in the east the LNB will be twisted/skewed clockwise; if satellite is in the west, the skew will be anti-clockwise. Sometimes we use the face of the clock to describe the twist; e.g. some 36e LNBs in Nigeria are twisted to something looking like 3 o'clock. Also, see the pictures in the link below for examples: http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=lnb+skew&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi |

Hi all, here is just a brief of the installation/tracking of Eutelsat W3A IT WASNT EASY. I couldnt tracked the satellite on saturday, has anybody here in the house done that before? If so kindly post the pictures or screenshots of some of the channels here on this forum. I will give full details of my experience in some days time, have not been happy since my blue club lost yesterday. And one more thing, i really love Nairaland, all Nairalanders i've been meeting are very nice and we treat eachother as if we belong to same family, but truly we do and the family is nairaland.com, all thanks to seun osewa. |

@enitan2002 If u want to track eutel sat 3 without much stress, first of all use atleast 1.8m dish to get the position correctly then u can use 90cm to track. and again don't use strong 4653x or 4651x for tracking, rather use strong 4650 skyx they are bether. In the north we get eutel 3 on the same dish with nilesat. I instal one for my friend,we use 1.8m dish to get nilesat,nss7ku,ait and eutelsat3. So there is no reason why u cant get with 90cm dish in the south. In te north with 90cm the signal strength is almost 60 percent |

enitan2002: Enitan, just look around for any deeper life bible church branch. You will most likely see a 90cm dish facing the heavens. The dish is used for receiving their weekly bible study broadcasted on W3. Goodluck some few more channels are up on Pas 10. Just do a rescan of your stb. |

hi,u can get eutelsat w3 even with a 80cm dish.i got a signal quality of 55%.if u want to track it make sure u a tv set in front of u.about 5 to 8 more channels will be added to that satellite b4 saturday.goodluck. |

Enigma et al, I have seen C band dishes work Ku band lnbs for Ku band channels. Is it in anyway possible to have C band lnbs installed on Ku band dish (eg. the popular 90cm) for c band channels. As anyone tried something like this before? Looking forward to your great replies. |

Re: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by Enigma(m): 9:26pm On Mar 11, 2008 |
@bodejohn You are correct that Ku band LNB will work on dishes that are supposed to be "C Band". In fact a dish is not either C band or Ku band. A dish is just a dish and should work with C or Ku Band LNBs. However, generally C band satellite/frequencies require larger dishes --- thus our 90cm dishes are usually no good for C band satellite/frequencies. I think C band dishes start from about 1.8 (maybe 1.2?) dishes. Maybe more interesting for you though is that there are now LNBs that can do both C and Ku band i.e. combined C/Ku (dual) band LNBs, see examples in links below: http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Order/LNBFS/C-Band-LNBF.htm http://www.cyberestore.com/bsc6212-lnbf-both-bands-p-233.html |

@ boljamogun, by his post, i shall know him. How you doing today, and the family? I need the canalsat horizon agent you told me about that they are here in lagos. Kindly post that info here on this forum @ badaru1, Hi, how has life being during this week? @ urfriend, just make sure you finish the work i couldnt finish and make us all proud here. @ Enigma, why is it that most stations coming down to ku-band at the atlantic zone are either moving to Eutelsat W4 36e or Pas7/10 ku at 68.5e and not NSS7 at 22w, is it that there're no more available transponder on nss7. E be like say i wan taste something new ooooooooo |

Re: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by Enigma(m): 12:56am On Mar 12, 2008 |
Though I don't know for sure, I think it's down to basic economics. Many people in Naija already had DSTV which is on 36e; providers to Naija market will calculate that if they put their own channels on 36e then the people who already have DSTV dishes do not need to get another dish; remember also that some people have DSTV dishes but do not always renew their DSTV subscription; they can then possibly subscribe to other services on 36e without having to put on another dish. The same is true to a slightly lesser extent for 68.5e as MyTV has been operating from there for a couple of years or so (as well as some FTA channels) and, again, providers to Naija market will calculate that those who already have MyTV dishes will be easier to attract to other provisions on 68.5e. |
Re: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by bodejohn(m): 6:13am On Mar 12, 2008 |
Enigma: Thanks for your quick reply, I am quite sure you know that one of the reasons why the dishes used for C band channels are large is because some of the signals are blocked by the lnb and its holders as the case is in prime focus dishes. If the losses are eliminated or reduced i think a smaller offset dish which has no lnb and holder blocking its signals might do the job for some satellites with strong footprints over Nigeria. I will be visiting my dealer quite soon to see if i can get the c/ku band lnb. Has anyone seen this c/ku band lnb in nigeria? Enjoy!!! |
Re: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by Nobody: 12:00am On Mar 14, 2008 |
Hi Guys, It seems there're no new developments based on this topic for the past few hours. @ boljamogun, the mail i sent to urfriend bounced back with a failure delivery, i just checked my google account now and i saw the mail, i will still try to give someone a midnite call tonight to see f he can do it. I went out to view the deeper life church satellite postion and i found out that the position of the dish faces the same direction with that of mytv and dstv but more to the right side position when viewing from the back of the satellite and the elevation was set to the maximum of the dish and the lnb was skewed so that the position of the wire looks like a six O' clock i.e facing down. I think with this little info this will go a long way in assisting any installer in tracking the bird. The funniest part is that it's easier for people in the north to track that because the minimum size of dish required is like 65cm while down the south is 90cm. and the dish being used in the church is just same 90cm but strong-made. |

(It's like if a phone is unlocked and you then put back original software which 'locks' it again!) Your options are to find the correct patch from the Net and load it again to your receiver or to find someone who has the same receiver but with a modified/patch software and transfer from that to yours. You can search the website/forum in the link below to see if you can find the right 'patch' for your receiver. http://www.maldiviandigital.com/forum69/ |

pitodenz: @ pitodenz It is your lucky day if you are using strong srt4653x. Go to http://wizkid.persiangig.com Click on Patch for Africa You will see this link SRT4651X_4654X_MyTV_144p_20080221.zip It is a 1.1Mb file. Put it in a flash drive and connect it to your receiver. Go to the Menu and then USB follow the screen instructions. I have tried it before so nothing to worry about but make sure power is not switched off when you update. This is guaranteed to work only if you are using srt 4653x To everyone trying to upgrade strong receivers do not install downloaded softwares from the strong's website. @ all, Does anyone have a dstv smartcard to sell, It could be new or used. i am intrested. Re: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by Nobody: 6:29am On Mar 16, 2008 |
@ badaru1, thats a very good info and i must say this Kudos to you. But as you know, with every development one have got to put your location condition before doing anything. I have also come across this great innovation on the internet, but this require a very high-speed internet connection to be able to enjoy this. But where can one find a high-speed internet connection here in NIgeria? None i must say. For one to enjoy a smooth video playback your bandwidth must not be less that 1MB, and any ISP that has this bandwidth sell them in bits for various users to use. One can easily noticed all these lapses with our ISPs here in NIgeria, but are they really ISPs? No, they are just bandwidth resellers. For just a yahoo page to open you spend minutes instead of just some few seconds, one can even see the videos on youtube play with the bandwidth being used in cafes around here, you spend hours just to watch a couple of minutes videos, all due to buffering which is not supposed to be at all. The only alternative to this lapses is using the mobile communication 3G data, and i'm dead sure everyone here knows that must surely cost a fortune. As for me and those that share similar opinions, i msut say this for now with the present condition our internet speed is i will still rely on normal way it is required to watch Free-To-Air channels. I must say again to badaru1 that's a very good info for we guys in the house. |
Re: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by badaru1(m): 11:44am On Mar 16, 2008 |
@enitan2002 You dont need high speed internet to use this receiver, currently am using it in my house. For you people in south to enjoy this you need a bgger dish atleast 2.4m dish. This is how the receiver works, some guys in Iran who are the distributors of the receivers bulit a server, then validly subscribed to the channels,if you buy the receiver and connect to the server, you watch those channels for free. So you dont need high speed internet to watch the channels |

badaru1: If this is possible with a slow internet connection, It may be card sharing through internet. There is a way where by people who paid subscription can "sublet" to others through the internet. Dth companies used this to allow people who live in countries where they have no agents to pay for their services. It is just like two or more receivers connected through internet using one card. Get more info from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Card_sharing. |

@urfriend I was bird watching the free2view transponder on W3a the whole of last weekend but no new channels poped up. could u pls give me the update on whats causing the delay, ie, if u know. i was at their site but it was of no help. i am on that bird solely because it has been the only bird that has given me some success with offline data grabbing. i must admit though that the french channels like ARIANE, DIRECT 8, MBC 2, TVM and GO Africa do have some interesting programming. i think i would have to take evening classes for french. |
