Autos / Re: Help Auto Expert! Nissan Altima Engine Problem by Nighttrain: 2:21pm On Nov 25, 2008 |
You need to check if the altima is a non-interfernce engine. If it is, a breakage in the timing chain will not affect the valves. But the KA24DE engine in the altima has a timing chain and this should not break easily. Check again to be sure. Open the oil filler coner on the crank case, and then have some one crank the engine. If the chain is OK, there will be valve movement, but if there is none, then it broken. Alternatively, have the mechanic open the crank case, and then you'll see both chain and cam-shaft(OHC engine). It should be clear if the chain is OK. Even if it is broken, the mechanic should be sure if the BDC part of the engine is affected. If it is, then you should be going for JUST the engine block, Crankshaft and the pistons. This will come with an oil pump (mind you all these are from the used car market at Ladipo). You did not state if this happened in transit or after you stopped and wanted to take off. If it is only the adjuster, this is a plastic part, and UNLESS it melted in the engine, and starved some parts (crakshaft, camshaft, tappets, oil pump) of oil, this should not be a problem. The adjuster is used to maintain tauntness of the timing chain, and you'd be suprised if the timing is merely missed, and as aresult the car will not start. |

Bros the price of a car depends on the grade of the car. Milage is also a factor. You did not state the Milage of the car your frined bought. Also the camry was introduced in the states for the 1998 model year. Most likely, a 1997 will be Euro Spec. If it is an LE and has an antenna at the back, then it will be a Euro Spec. Besure to check that it is not accidented, and it is not a "rightie" Meanwhile the merchandise is still available. |

Properties / Re: Estimate For Building A 4 Bedroom Room Duplex by Nighttrain: 12:31am On Nov 21, 2008 |
Hi Brother, Before you can start the estimates of a structure, you should have a plan first. The plan need not be a detailed architectural plan, but a sketch will do. Avoiod the pitfalls of having an estimate gien to you with no plan at all. The difference between 2 houses even if they ahev the dame design can vary from builder to builder and location to location. It also varies from siize of contractor to contractor. The quality of finish also palys an important role here. If you ahev a plan, I can help you do a rough BoQ of materials only, because price of labour and materials are not steady. This festive period is a big no no cos the prices now are outta the roof. If you wait after the "ember" madness, you could have a good deal. Project Phasing is also advisable. i.e. To gather materials - blocks, cement, rods, chipping, sand before you start. This process speeds up the delivery time considerably. With no finance issues you should have a carcass in about 45 - 60 days work. you acn conatct me if you need advice. happy building |
Car Talk / Re: Driving a New Tokunbo Car From Lagos To Abuja by Nighttrain: 12:18am On Nov 21, 2008 |
Fly the car on a sunday morning. thats your best bet. If the cars leaves Lagos by 5.30am, by the time yu will be getting to the police checks, they will be getting ready for the shift changes or be sleeping after a long night, (the black and black guys are your greatest headache) but make sure you have your #200 for the highway patrol guys and MOPOL. For the Highway patrol guys, they have cars that can pursue you easily. The customs, well make sure your papers are genuine or na Ikeja you go end. have a lot of #200 mints f you intend to do it by yourself. But if your hand no stong, leave am to pros and pay the fee. 1 Like |

Autos / Re: Educate Me by Nighttrain: 11:38pm On Nov 20, 2008 |
Hi, The Camrys from 1997/1998 up until 2001 all have the same engine. You will only find a slight difference between the engine connections of the Euro spec and the American Specs. But the engine is the same 5S-FE engine. This is a trouble free engine as far as I know. If you get one, all you owe it is Mobil Super XHP or Total Quartz 7000 every three or four months with a GOOD oil filter. Camrys are sensitive to oil filters, and if you get one of those cheapos, the type that has paper inside, then you ask for trouble. The onle issue with all camrys (gen 5) is the shoch absorber pads and the stabilizer linkages on all four tyres. When these go bad, they give the impression of damaged shock struts. The occasional check engine light will be there, but this is mostly a P401 or P402 code (if you use a scanner) caused by unleaded fuel complications but no problem, mine has been on and off since the past 18mo. I can show u a simple means to clear the check light (if nothing is wrong with your car), when you eventually get it. enjoy |
