Health / Useful Ways To Prevent Diabetes - Nimerexhealth by Nimerex: 2:59pm On Jun 05, 2020
Diabetes is a prevalent hormonal problem that if left untreated can lead to serious health complications like diabetic neuropathy, kidney complications, heart problems, retinopathy and other illnesses. At progressive, later stages, diabetes can cause kidney failure, amputation of the limbs, impaired vision, and stroke. Nevertheless, these complications can be prohibited or suggestively delayed by working out good control of diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol. Here are some steps that can be followed:

. LESSEN SUGAR AND REFINE CARBS FROM YOUR DIET:

Consumption of sugary nutrients and refined carbs can put at-risk folks on the fast path to emergent diabetes. Eating foods that are high in refined carbohydrates and sugar upsurges blood sugar and insulin levels leading to this condition over time. Circumventing these foods may help diminish your risk.

. STOP SMOKING:

Smoking has shown to root out or contribute to various grave health conditions, counting heart disease, emphysema and cancers of the lung, breast, prostate and digestive tract. Quitting has been shown to help in preventing diabetes and ease this risk over time.

. LESSEN YOUR CONSUMPTION OF PROCESSED FOODS:

Lessening processed foods and concentrating on whole foods with defensive effects on health may help drop the risk of diabetes. Studies suggest that cutting back on packed foods that are great in vegetable oils, polished grains and additives may help diminish the risk. One study initiate that poor-quality diets that were high in treated foods increased the risk by 30%. Yet, counting nutritious whole foods facilitated reducing this risk.

Health / How To Stay Safe On Lagos Roads Following Lockdown Lifting by Nimerex: 2:42pm On May 04, 2020
This piece was curated to state the things we feel you should be doing if you have to be on Lagos roads as it opens up today.

Five weeks ago, the city of Lagos and two other states (Ogun and Abuja) were placed under strict lockdown regulations by President Mohammed Buhari – in a bid to curtail the spread of the lethal coronavirus.

Nigeria recorded its first case of the virus in Lagos, sometime in late February. The case was an Italian who just travelled back into the country. And as the number of cases began to rise stealthily over the past two months, it was clear the city of Lagos was going to sit comfortably as the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria. Between the period the first case was recorded in February and today, the 4th of May, Nigeria has now recorded 2558 coronavirus cases and Lagos state has 1107 of those cases.

From all indications, the total number of known cases we have recorded in Nigeria is not truly reflecting the actual number of cases we possibly have right now in the country. The testing capacity, although being improved on by the agency in charge, is relatively low compared to the entire population of the country. This has not helped us have a clear picture of the hold of the virus in the country. However, almost prematurely, the president of the federal republic of Nigeria, President Mohammed Buhari, on the 27th of April, announced that the three states placed under a lockdown can now gradually start opening up from the 4th of May.

Of course, it is understandable the massive adverse effect an extended lockdown can have on the economy, livelihood of citizens and even on the mental health of individuals but all the possible signs are there that states like Lagos state should still be placed under a strictly enforced lockdown for another two weeks, at least. In the end, it is for us to keep being alive to survive another day.

Since the lockdown has now been lifted and expectedly, Lagosians have trooped out on the roads to go about their businesses and make a living. If you fall in the category of individuals who have to be on the road, either for work or some other essential activities, we will advise you at least adhere to the following:

1. Avoid Bus Parks: This might be a tad hard, especially for individuals who don’t own their vehicles, but if you can, ensure you avoid bus parks. If you can, advise the organisation you work for to make provisions to help you get to work without having to go through crowded bus parks.

2. Always Wear a Mask: It might sound ludicrous but a face mask will greatly help us curtail the spread of the virus. For one, it helps you reduce contact from your hands to your nose and mouth, a major way the virus gains access into the body. Also, asymptomatic carriers who already have the virus but are not showing any symptoms can keep the spread to themselves by covering their mouth and nose with a facemask.

3. Have a Pocket Sanitizer: If you constantly have to be in public spaces, a bus, a bank etc, having a sanitizer with you always will ensure your hands stay free of the virus or any other germ as you move through the public.
From how countries like South Korea and New Zealand have been able to keep the virus on a leash, at least to an applaudable extent, it is obvious it is also possible for us here on this side of the world. We only need to ensure we are taking as much precautions as we can. This is a winable war! Keep staying safe, Lagos!

If you feel symptoms of the virus or any other medical concerns, you can quicly schedule an appointment with a hospital closest you on our Digital Referral Platform. Visit www.nimerexhealth.com, sign up and start enjoying the service. You can call 09087776660 for more inquiries.
Health / Social Distancing & How To Practice It by Nimerex: 1:04pm On Apr 27, 2020
Gradually, we are starting to see the novel coronavirus that has manifested itself in almost every country around the world slow down – at least, in a number of countries. This, to a lot of people, is a good signal that we might getting back to the ‘normal’ we used to have and businesses and economies can begin to plot their way back to existence. However, in the face of the flattening we are seeing, it is highly recommended that people inculcate the ‘social distancing’ culture, which for sure, is going to be here for a long time till we are sure and the world is certified ‘corona free’.

As it is presently, studies are still ongoing to establish the plausibility of getting the virus a second time after one’s body has initially fought it off. If findings show that this is possible, humans might have to get on with their lives but not without strict social distancing rules. This is why we prepared this blog to share tips on how to best practice social distancing.

1. Avoid taking public transportation or making non-essential trips

2. Work from home if possible

3. Avoid social gatherings

4. Don’t patronize bars, restaurants, or movie theaters or visit places where people gather

This might take a while but in the end, we will defeat covid-19. Maintain proper hygiene, load your body with immune system boosting meals and fruits and also adhere to the social distancing rules as recommended. If you at any point feel the symptoms of the coronavirus or any other health concerns, you can quickly schedule an appointment with a doctor from the comfort of your home on www.nimerexhealth.com. Health / Do Not Self-Medicate, Video Call Or Chat With A Doctor On Nimerexhealth by Nimerex: 1:49pm On Apr 24, 2020
Before jumping into the literal meaning of self-medication, let us quickly point that self-medication is extremely dangerous especially when dealing with complex and sensitive drugs.

Self-medication is the usage of drugs without a proper prescription from a doctor or medical personnel. It is commonly practised in Nigeria where we constantly have to deal with the menace of malaria and other common illnesses. As it should be, Every drug must be prescribed by a specialist before being taken so as to avoid the side effects and complexities that might arise from the usage of such drugs. It does not matter even if the drug has once been prescribed by a doctor for the same ailment, one has to get a new prescription each time an infection or diseases arises so as to be on the safer side. The dangers of self-medication are numerous and some of them are:

1. Drug sensitivity: An important reason you should avoid self-medication is sensitivity to certain drugs. A drug that works for your friend might not have the same effect on you. This is why you should get your prescriptions from your doctor. Drug sensitivity may result in allergic reactions and adverse side effects and as such it is very advisable to get prescribed drugs from your doctor who knows your medical history.

2. Overdose: Overdose can easily result from being ignorant of the required dose of a particular drug. If you are not sure of how many tablets to swallow, please consult your doctor for a proper prescription. A drug overdose can be very harmful to health and may even result in death.

3. Drug addiction: When you keep using a drug without a prescription, it is easy to get addicted to that drug and this addiction results from drug abuse. For example, if panadol was originally prescribed to you by your doctor as treatment for a migraine, if you keep using the drug for an ordinary headache, a time will come when your body will get used to the drug and its effects will no longer be able to treat your headache again. You might keep taking the drug hoping it would do something and this invariably leads to drug addiction.

Always fight off the urge to self-medicate whenever you have health concerns. Ensure you consult a health specialist first. You can video call or live chat health specialists on www.nimerexhealth.com if you have health concerns needing attention. Call us on 09087776660 for more enquiries.
Health / How To Stay Healthy When Working From Home by Nimerex: 1:20pm On Mar 30, 2020
The novel coronavirus (Covid-19), since it broke out and travelled through countries in the past months, has clipped the wings on a lot of human daily activities around the world. As part of containment measures, organisations and companies around the world have had to activate the work-from-home/remote work option for their staff. However, as a staff working from home, you want to make sure you develop habits or strategies that can help you stay active and healthy because research has shown that any amount of extended sitting can be harmful. And working more than ten hours per day is linked to a higher risk of stroke. So, here are some tips to help you stay healthy and also productive this season:

1. Separate yourself: Especially if there are other people around while you’re working, it’s important to separate yourself from the business of your household. Set up a home office with a door that you can close or create a designated space for your work, if you need to drown out the noise of your pets, kids or TV to keep sane and remain productive and professional.

2. Set a schedule: It can be difficult to establish a set schedule when you’re working from home, because, if you need to, you can just keep working. However, try thinking of your work-from-home hours the same way you do office hours. Choose a start time, lunch break and finish time that you stick to as closely as possible so you can maintain a healthy work-life balance.

3. Stock up on healthy snacks and drinks: You might be tempted to eat whatever unhealthy foods you have in your kitchen when you’re working from home, but resist the temptation. Pack yourself a bag full of healthy snacks as if you’re headed into the office, and keep a water bottle handy to sip from throughout the day.

4. Give your eyes a rest: It’s not healthy for your eyes to be glued to a computer screen all day. Make time during every hour spent on your computer to close your eyes for a few minutes or look at something else to make sure you’re not straining them.

In all of these, never forget to maintain every precautionary measures advised by health specialists. Keep sanitizing, keep washing your hands, keep eating healthy and if you have to go to any public space, practice social distancing. And in case of any emergency or need to talk to a doctor, visit our digital referral platform www.nimerexhealth.com to chat with a doctor on your phone. Call us on 09087776660 for more enquiries.

Health / Ways To Relieve And Prevent Joint Pain by Nimerex: 9:35am On Mar 13, 2020
Joint pain (such as in your knees and hips) can be caused by a number of different factors, which range from wounds, trauma, disease to strains and sprains. The reason(s) for this is not far-fetched as the joints endure an incredible amount of stress. They connect your bones, support your weight and above all, allow you to move. Though your joints are designed to cope with all of the stress you place on them, sometimes they suffer from wear and tear, and the resulting joint pain can be extremely uncomfortable.

It is important to note that joint pain often differs from person to person. There are, however, a number of things you can do to temporarily alleviate the pain, as well as prevent it. Here they are:

1. Massage: A massage is an excellent way to relieve joint pain in your knees and hips. Either have it done professionally, or do it at home. If you are doing it on your own, try massaging the affected area with a menthol rub to help ease the pain. In addition, remember when massaging your body, the direction of your strokes should always be toward the heart.

2. Exercise: When selecting an exercise, choose one that allows you to move within the limits of your pain and does not cause further pain to the joints (such as your knees). That said, sometimes joint pain can be relived by minor exercise and stretching. Also, note that, exercise can increase the strength and flexibility of your joints, thus preventing potential joint pain.

3. Rest: One of the best ways of alleviating joint pain is to get plenty of rest and relaxation. This will restore energy, as well as allow the body to repair itself naturally. Furthermore, resting in between periods of exercise will allow your body to cope with the demands being made on it, thus preventing potential joint pain.

4. Ice Therapy: Cold temperatures reduce blood flow, and therefore reduce tissue swelling. The first time you experience pain, apply an ice pack on the affected area every hour for the majority of the day for a duration of 15 minutes. The next day, apply the ice only four or five times, still for 15 minutes. This process is vital for joint pain relief. Note, to avoid ice burns, do not place the ice directly on the skin, and instead wrap it in a towel or washcloth.

5. Physical Therapy: A physical therapist specializes in human movement, and can help you greatly with relieving your joint pain.
If you are suffering from joint pain, it is absolutely vital that you schedule an appointment with a doctor as soon as possible in order to properly assess and alleviate your joint pain. Visit our digital referral platform www.nimerexhealth.com to see doctors closest to your locality for a checkup. Call us on 09087776660 for further enquiries.

Health / Fatigue: How To Stop Feeling Tired by Nimerex: 12:40pm On Mar 11, 2020
Fatigue is a feeling of weariness, tiredness, or lack of energy that does not go away when you rest. People may feel fatigued in body or mind (physical or psychological fatigue). It’s common for people to become tired or even fatigued in our fast-paced modern world. Many times, you may find yourself running from one activity to the next, not pausing to take the time you might need to ground, balance, and soothe your soul.

In some cases, however, fatigue is a symptom of an underlying medical problem that requires medical treatment. When fatigue is not relieved by enough sleep, good nutrition, or a low-stress environment, it should be evaluated by your doctor.

Chances are you know what’s causing your fatigue. With a few simple lifestyle changes, it’s likely that you have the power to put the vitality back in your life. Consider these different tips to see how you can boost your energy levels.

Drink Plenty Water: Sometimes you feel tired simply because you’re mildly dehydrated. A glass of water will help do the trick, especially after exercise.

Don’t Skip Meals: Going without food for too long allows blood sugar levels to dip. Try to eat regularly to maintain your energy levels throughout the day.

Get Enough Sleep: A lot of us suffer from sleep problems, and many people don’t get the sleep they need to stay alert through the day. Some recommendations on getting a good night’s sleep include: go to bed and get up in the morning at the same time every day, avoid naps through the day, and have a warm bath or shower before bed.

Like we earlier mentioned in this piece, the reason you may be feeling fatigued might be beyond all the aforementioned and could be as a result of other underlying medical conditions. This is why it is important to consult with a physician. Visit our website www.nimerexhealth.com to schedule a visit today. Call us on 09087776660 for more info.

Health / Exercising Tips by Nimerex: 12:14pm On Mar 04, 2020
Exercise is a key to happiness. Research shows that people who exercise are healthier, more energetic, think more clearly and sleep better. They get relief from anxiety and mild depression. They perform better at work.

Getting moving can help boost your energy, maintain your independence, protect your heart and manage symptoms of illness or pain as well as your weight. Regular exercise is also good for your mind, mood, and memory.

Starting or maintaining a regular exercise routine can be a challenge at any age—and it doesn’t get any easier as you get older. You may feel discouraged by health problems, aches and pains, or concerns about injuries or falls. No matter your age, it’s never too late to get fit. These easy tips will help you get started safely and make it fun.

1. Make a Plan And Set Realistic Goals – Once you decide to start exercising regularly, try to create a plan that includes attainable steps and goals. One way to do this is to start with a plan of easy steps to follow. Then you can continue building on it as your fitness level improves. For example, if your goal is to finish a five-kilometer run, you can start by building a plan that includes shorter runs. Once you are able to finish those short runs, increase the distance until you can run the whole five kilometers continuously. Starting with small goals will not only increase your chances of success, it will also keep you motivated every step of the way.

2. Check Your Health – It’s important to consult your doctor and get a physical medical examination before starting an exercise routine. This is particularly important for those who are not used to strenuous physical activities, as well as individuals aged 45 and over. An early checkup can detect any health problems or conditions that could put you at risk of an injury during exercise. It can also help you optimize your workout, making it easier for you to understand your limitations and create an exercise plan tailored to your particular needs. With NimerexHealth, you have the luxury of searching for and scheduling a checkup with a doctor on your phone. Simply visit our website www.nimerexhealth.com and get connected.

Health / How Does Nimerex EMR Save Time? Here Is How by Nimerex: 12:16pm On Mar 02, 2020
Things are changing in health technology and it’s not hard to guess how the use of EMR can speed up medical processes. Tons of medical data can be computed and analyzed more efficiently than ever thanks to EMR. The right EMR software will speed you up once you embrace it. It will also reduce costs, help with documenting and updating patients’ status and even save lives.

Furthermore, by keeping the doctor’s need in mind through the process of creating the EMR software, a simple, user-focused design can go a long way. That’s why you now have actual EMR software such as Nimerex EMR that can help doctors speed up their work, rather than slow them down.

Other Ways You Can Save Time Nimerex EMR are:

. Paper records are very limited and waste a lot of time – Having electronic medical records speeds up retrieval of information, demands less time searching through shelves for folders, and ensures legible content – making sure doctors standing in can clearly read past notes and comments. This leads to faster treatments and better diagnosis. It also reduces time (and costs) by decreasing paperwork through less duplication of tests and better access to offer coordinated care.

. Automatic Data Backups – With Nimerex EMR, your data is electronically stored and backed up, you don’t need to waste time doing it on your own. No server to maintain, no IT team to hire and no worries about security.

. Easy Billing and Invoicing – EMR software with built-in medical billing such as our EMR can save you time and also gives you the ability to coordinate with staff, as well as reduce administrative costs. When you use external software (especially outdated systems or those that are not integrated) or if you manually record billing on paper, it will really be time-consuming and prone to errors in computing.

There is really no gain saying the plethora of time-saving functionalities embedded in Nimerex Electronic Medical Records and what even makes us stand out in the crop is how we perfectly tailored the design and interface to best suit any doctor’s practice – making their job easier, enjoyable and better executed.

Waste no more with enjoying the unending possibilities of scaling your health facility with our EMR, talk to us via mail today at info@nimerex.ng or call us on 09087776660.

Health / Corona Virus In Nigeria by Nimerex: 11:12am On Feb 28, 2020
Nigeria’s economic hub, Lagos confirmed a case of corona virus on Friday, making it the country’s first case of the global pandemic.

The case was confirmed on Feb. 27 as an Italian business traveler who arrived in Lagos from Milan on Feb. 25—Nigeria’s densely populated economic capital. The diagnosis was confirmed at the virology laboratory of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital.

Authorities say the patient is “clinically stable” and is being treated at a dedicated facility for infectious diseases. As part of containment efforts, the health ministry also says it has began working to identify and track down possible contacts of the country’s index case. Nigeria’s minister of health also says the country’s Centre for Disease Control has activated a national emergency operation center to respond to the confirmed case and other potential infections.

What To Do In These Times?

Like cold and flu, the new virus is spread via droplets when a person coughs or sneezes. The droplets land on surfaces and are picked up on the hands of others and spread further. People cathc the virus when they touch their infected hands to their mouth, nose or eyes with their hands unwashed or sanitized.

Other tips include:

1. Carry a hand sanitiser with you to make frequent cleansing of hands easy

2. Always wash your hands before you eat

3. Be especially careful in busy airports and other public transport systems about touching things and then touching your face

4. Carry disposable tissues with you, cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze and dispose of the tissue carefully

5. Avoid shaking hands or cheek kissing if you suspect viruses are circulating
Who is Prone To The Virus?

Data from China suggests that people of all ages are at risk of contracting the virus. However, as with most respiratory illnesses, it is likely to be the young and old who are mos at tisk once infected. Of the first 425 confirmed deaths across mainland China, 80 per cent were over the age of 60 and 75 per cent had some form of underlying disease.

Unlike past cases of outbreaks across countries, Nigerian public health officials are being a lot more deliberate about their preparations, from issuing public health advisories to conducting specialized training for rapid response teams across every state in the country. Some of the optimism and quiet confidence around the corona virus threat in Nigeria in particular has been the relative transparency and communication efforts by the authorities in trying to both inform and calm speculation about the disease.

We will be following further news on the virus as it happens and bring you more updates.
Health / Corona Virus: Latest Updates by Nimerex: 5:00pm On Feb 25, 2020
Corona virus – A virus causing severe lung disease that started in China has spread to 27 other countries, including the UK. As of 24th of February 2020, the virus had infected 77, 234 people in China, with 2,594 of them eventually dying.

In latest news about the epidemic, Iraj Harirchi, Iran’s deputy health minister, and Mahmoud Sadeghi, an MP, have tested positive for the virus.

Iran’s deputy health minister has tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a tweet by the ministry’s media adviser and a report by the semi-official ILNA news agency.

Iran’s deputy health minister has been infected with the new coronavirus, a ministry official has said, amid a major outbreak in the Islamic republic. “The coronavirus test for Mr Harirchi, the deputy health minister who was on the front lines combating the coronavirus, was positive,” Alireza Vahabzadeh, a media adviser to the health minister, said in a tweet.

Iraj Harirchi coughed occasionally and appeared to be sweating during a press conference on Monday with government spokesman Ali Rabiei. The semi-official ILNA news agency also reported Harirchi had contracted the virus.

Typically, the virus starts with a fever, followed by a dry cough. After a week, it leads to shortness of breath and some patients require hospital treatment. The incubation period – between infection and showing any symptoms – lasts up to 14 days, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). However, some researchers say it may be as long as 24 days. And Chinese scientists say some people may be infectious even before their symptoms appear.

Right now, treatment relies on the basics – keeping the patient’s body going, including breathing support, until their immune system can fight off the virus. However, the work to develop a vaccine is under way and it is hoped there will be human trials before the end of the year. Hospitals are also testing anti-viral drugs to see if they have an impact.

As far as Africa is concerned, there has only been one tested and confirmed case – in North Africa, Egpyt and as far as treatment goes, the WHO has started sending kits to laboratories around the continent to ensure they have the capacity to deal with the virus and also help test samples from other countries if needed. For Nigeria, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has put in place quick and diverse strategies to prevent importation of cases into country. A multi-sectoral Coronavirus Preparedness Group has continued to carry out regular epidemic intelligence gathering, enhanced surveillance at the points of entry into the country, intensive risk communications, strengthening laboratory capacity for testing, placing National First Rapid Response Team to highly pathogenic infections on alert and scaling up of Public Health Emergency Operation Centres in states etc.

For cautious methods, it has been advised that all non-essential travel to China should be delayed, until the outbreak is contained. Also, travellers from Nigeria to China should, at all times until the virus is contained, avoid contact with sick people, animals (alive or dead) and animal markets.

Health / Taking Care Of Your Spine by Nimerex: 4:47pm On Feb 24, 2020
You must take care of your back. Why? Because it holds you up if you keep it straight and strong. From the time you wake in the morning until you return back to bed, including changes in sleeping position, you are responsible for adhering to proper bodily positioning and body mechanics.

How to Get In and Out of Bed

1. Lean forward from your hips, not from your back. Try not to arch your back.

2. You should push your upper body off the bed using your elbows and hands to bear the weight and swing both legs to the floor.

3. Keep your back straight and try not to bend at the waist.

Position Your Spine for Sleeping

Sleeping is an important component in daily living. Trying to find a comfortable position during sleep is half the battle. Using and adjusting pillows appropriately can help provide comfort and support your neck and back.

1. You should not sleep on your back without bending your legs or placing pillows under your knees.

2. Never sleep on your stomach.

3. It is important to sleep on a firm mattress! Ask you physician what type of mattress is best for your back disorder. Also – rotate your mattress every three months; turning it over twice a year is recommended.

Getting In and Out of Your Car

1. Move the seat back as far as possible and hold onto the side of car, back of the seat, or even the dashboard for additional support.

2. Bend at the knees and hips (not your back) and try not to twist at the waist. Avoid twisting and turning to reach for objects in the back seat and be aware of proper body mechanics!

3. Use both arms and legs to assist you when raising and lowering yourself into and out of the car. Keep your body in alignment and turn your body as tolerated.

The key is “self” postural and safety awareness. It is also important to perform all activities of daily living including exercises and household chores in a safe manner. From the positions you choose, such as the way you get in and out of bed, chairs, and even the car to the way you turn, bend, retrieve, lift, and carry objects—performing correct body movements with good posture is important to protect your neck and back.

Some larger signs of problem which might require a doctor visit include; pain that persists or worsens over a couple of months, poor balance when standing and constant weakness. To schedule a doctor checkup right on your phone or laptop, you should visit www.nimerexhealth.com. Call us on 09087776660 for more information.
Health / How To Manage Your Blood Level by Nimerex: 3:44pm On Feb 21, 2020
Do you feel tired, hungry and excessively thirsty all the time? Do you experience blurred vision or a tingling in the feet? Have you lost weight, frequently visited the toilet to urinate? If the answer to these is yes then you could be suffering from diabetes which is mostly caused by high blood sugar level.

Diabetes occurs when your body is unable to break down glucose into energy. This is because there is either not enough of the hormone insulin (produced by the pancreas) to break down the glucose, or the insulin produced does not work properly. This is why it is very important to always know ones blood sugar level or numbers as your blood sugar numbers show how well your diabetes is managed. And managing your diabetes means that you have less chance of having serious health problems, such as kidney disease and vision loss.

As you check your blood sugar, you can see what makes your numbers go up and down. For example, you may see that when you are stressed or eat certain foods, your numbers go up. And, you may see that when you take your medicine and are active, your numbers go down. This information lets you know what is working for you and what needs to change.

For those yet to have the disease, here are some things you need to do to prevent it:

1. Know your blood sugar level – Having knowledge of your blood sugar level is very important. In fact, this is the first step to take in preventing or treatment of diabetes. This can be done through professional help by doctors or other certified medical personnel. The test for this is called fasting blood sugar or fasting blood glucose. It measures the estimated level of sugar in the blood at a given time or over a period of time.

2. Exercise regularly/always be active – Do not live a sedentary lifestyle. You need regular exercise. Regular exercise increases the insulin sensitivity of the cells and puts the blood sugar automatically under control.

3. Control your blood pressure – There is a link between blood pressure and diabetes. To reduce the risk of diabetes especially in people with hereditary history of the disease, there is a need to constantly monitor your blood pressure. Most times hypertension and diabetes are conjoined twins.

4. Reduce stress – Stress can cause diabetes. When you are stressed, your body triggers several hormones that can increase your blood sugar level. To cope with stress you can engage in walking, yoga and listening to music, among others.

5. See your doctor for regular check-up – As you get older, it is advisable to see your doctor regularly. For easier access to doctors and health specialists around you, simply visit our digital referral platform www.nimerexhealth.com – call 09087776660 for more info.
Health / Sleep Deprivation And Stress by Nimerex: 12:33pm On Feb 19, 2020
One of the biggest factors affecting our sleep is stress. Stress has a way of eating deep into our system, causing changes in our physical and mental health as well as negatively affecting the dynamics and quality of our sleep.

Quality sleep is essential for a balanced life. During sleep, the body rests, cleanses and purifies itself. It repairs, rebuilds, grows and heals itself. Sleep relieves the stresses, strains and tensions accumulated throughout the day. The need for adequate and quality sleep cannot be over-emphasized.

If you don’t sleep enough at night, your body boosts its levels of stress hormones because the brain chemicals connected with deep sleep are the same ones that tell the body to stop the production of stress hormones. It follows therefore that when you don’t sleep well, your body keeps pumping out the stress hormones and the next day you feel more stressed! This can lead to a very vicious cycle because the following night you are likely to find it harder to fall asleep because of the amount of stress hormones in your system.

It can be very frustrating lying down in bed, exhausted and yet unable to sleep. An extended period of this type of pattern of can lead to severe sleep deprivation which can put the body in a high-risk state. If you frequently wake up in the middle of the night, your body may be signaling that it is overwhelmed with stress. To improve the quality of your sleep, you must take control of your stress level as bedtime approaches.

The following are some steps to take:

Listen to calm, relaxing music: Music has a powerful ability to counteract the body’s stress response by slowing the pulse, lowering blood pressure and decreasing the amount of stress hormones.

Limit the use of electronic devices: Turn off most electronic devices while preparing for bed because the light from these digital devices can throw the body’s internal clock off.

Exercise: This is a great stress reliever which improves the quality of sleep. However, it is best done 3-4 hours before bedtime because an intense exercise regimen is likely to stimulate your body invigorating and keeping it awake.

Practice relaxation strategies: Deep breathing, positive meditation and progressive muscle relaxation helps calm the body and rid the mind of anxiety.

As often as possible, go to bed early and do a minimum of 7 hours. If you go to bed after midnight you have already missed 2 hours of your ‘body repair’ time. However, if you are battling other medical conditions affecting your sleep such as insomnia or sleep apnea, it is best you book a visit with the doctor for medications and other practices to help you. Health / Healthy Living; Healthier Couple by Nimerex: 12:54pm On Feb 14, 2020
So you’ve found the one. They are perfect. In your eyes, they can do no wrong. You two have settled in together, and you couldn’t be more comfortable. You wake up in the morning a little later to stay in bed with them and you come home straight from work to see them.

As you make more time for your significant other, however, your focus on yourself and your fitness blurs. Suddenly, you’re happier than you’ve ever been emotionally, but physically, you’ve become complacent. That’s when you notice them—the extra, unwanted pounds. The pizza-and-movie nights have finally caught up to both of you.

There’s no doubt about it. You’re far more likely to live healthier if your partner is on the same page (or at least close to it). And certainly, your partner – and your overall life together – reaps huge benefits, too.

Here are some tips for helping each other launch or continue with a healthier, happier life as a couple.

1. Make It A Team Effort:

Take the “we’re on the same team” approach. Repeatedly, studies have found that couples working together make successful lifestyle change more likely. Let your partner know that you’re his biggest fan. When he wins, you win. When he makes the effort, even the smallest of steps, you’ll be cheering him on.

And remember that two people working toward the same goal enhances each other’s motivation and provides great support if the going gets tough.

2. Don’t Expect Perfection:

Despite your best efforts and teamwork, you or your partner may slip and have an ice-cream cone or not get out of bed on a rainy day to go to the gym. Fine Fine, you’re human! Just get back on your program, and praise yourself for all your success so far. If you beat yourself up for a temporary setback, you’ll feel badly and (no surprise!) reach for comfort food or be too demoralized to exercise. Let your partner know you’re having a tough time, and ask for support. Don’t let one mistake be an excuse for abandoning your healthy habits.

3. Replace Negative Comments With Positive Feedback:

Instead of trying to dictate a partner’s health – the restaurant entrees they order, the type of exercise they do – talk to them. Let them know how much they mean to you, and how much you look forward to spending many active healthy years together. Above all, notice when your partner is succeeding and compliment him! By doing so, you’re working together as a team rather than as a parent and child. Remember, too, you can be an example to your loved ones, and provide information to them, but they have to want to make lifestyle changes.

Whilst taking these tips and consistently applying it to exercising and healthy eating in your relationship, a regular visit to doctor to ensure your body system is in great shape and checked will also go a long way in achieving a hundred percent healthy lifestyle as a couple. To book a visit with the doctor or any health specialist, sign up on our digital referral platform – www.nmerexhealth.com – to get connected to the health specialist closest to you. Health / Why You Should Practice Eating Healthy by Nimerex: 12:57pm On Feb 13, 2020
Life is all about compromises, right? Well, if you think you can ignore your bad eating habits just because you exercise regularly, think again. A mistake that many people make is thinking that if you burn off a ton of calories at the gym you can eat whatever you want.

Eating a healthy diet is far from simple, simply because humans are very complex beings. We may have it in the back of our minds that we are eating to fuel our bodies, but we actually make the majority of our food choices based on their enjoyment factor. In fact, eating is such an enjoyable experience that we often choose to eat foods that taste very good, but that don’t make us feel very good afterward. We also enjoy these foods so much that we eat more than our bodies actually need, which in turn makes us fat, unhappy and depressed. Many people do not even know how great it feels to eat a healthy meal, because they have been making bad food choices for too long. In this post, we will highlight two points why it is very important to eat healthy.

Why Should I Make Healthy Food Choices?

The basic need for food is pretty simple and could be compared to putting gas in your car. If you put the right fuel into your car, it will spring to life with a single turn of the key and run smoothly for many years, but if you put soda pop and sugar in your gas tank, it’s going to ruin your car. In this sense, your car and your body are very much alike. They both run well on the right kind of fuel, but will deteriorate over time if you neglect their basic fueling needs. To truly understand the importance of establishing healthy eating habits, you need to ask yourself a very simple question: “Why do humans need to eat?” – Simply put, humans need to eat to supply their bodies with nutrients (carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals) that then supply the body with fuel for energy, aid in tissue growth and repair, act in various biochemical reactions, and much, much more.

Why Should I Strive for a Healthy Lifestyle?

It’s a lot of work to eat healthy; it takes discipline and isn’t always fun, so why bother? At some point in your life, you will be faced with the realization that the health of your body is the determining factor for what kind of lifestyle you can lead. Just like a smoker faces a possible future of lung cancer, if you neglect healthy eating habits you not only face a possible future of being overweight or obese, you also run the risk of depression, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, bowel complications and much more.

The choices you make each day – from what to eat for breakfast to whether or not to have that extra slice of pie – affect how you feel and how you perform, which as you may be able to guess, affects everything you do. Choose wisely, and you will soon find that feeding your body well translates into a longer, healthier, more enjoyable life.

Once you decide that learning healthy eating habits is worthwhile for you, it’s time to make some changes to your diet. Challenge yourself to come up with some new healthy eating habits every day and put them to good use. You might need the assistance of a dietitian to help develop a meal plan and counsel on nutrition needs. Swiftly book an appointment with a dietitian on our digital referral platform. Health / Easy Tips To Boost Your Health by Nimerex: 1:00pm On Feb 10, 2020
Taking control of your health doesn’t need to be difficult or time consuming. There are several easy, healthy habits you can incorporate into your daily routine to help you lose weight, get in shape, prevent serious illness, de-stress and boost your health generally. Here are some quick health tips to get you started:

1. AVOID SUGARY DRINKS
We all know soft drinks aren’t a healthy beverage choice, but fruit juices and sports drinks are also full of excess sugar. Water should be your primary beverage of choice, with soda or fruit juice considered a special treat. Sports drinks are only necessary after high-intensity workouts lasting one hour or more. How much water should you drink per day? On average, an adequate fluid intake for men is about 13 cups of total beverages a day & this includes water, as well as milk, tea and juice. For women, it’s about nine cups of total beverages per day. However, people who exercise vigorously or live in hot climates will need to increase their fluid intake. Pregnant or breastfeeding women will also need to boost their fluid consumption to ensure proper hydration.

2. REGULAR CHECK UPS

It is imperative to always check in with the doctor to ensure all is well and good with your body system – even when you feel totally perfect. This is another key to maintaining a perfect health and it would also help detect anything that can be possibly wrong and tackle it at its beginning stage. You also need a doctor check up:

. To manage chronic or ongoing conditions.
. To check on the effects of a new medicine.
. To help with risk factors like smoking or obesity.
. For prenatal care, if you are pregnant.
. For lifestyle issues like family planning.
. For other reasons that are based on your individual needs.

Health / How To Best Tackle Hypertension by Nimerex: 2:05pm On Feb 05, 2020
Hypertension is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Africa, and Nigeria, the most populous country in the continent, hugely contributes to this burden. In Nigeria, recent research has shown overall hypertension prevalence of 28.9% (25.1, 32.cool, with a prevalence of 29.5% (24.8, 34.3) among men and 25.0% (20.2, 29.7) among women.

High blood pressure or hypertension has detrimental effects on health, particularly if left uncontrolled for sustained periods of time. High pressure in blood vessels damages major organs, especially the heart, brain, kidneys, and eyes, and is a leading risk factor for heart attacks and strokes. Hypertension in middle age has been linked to steeper rates of cognitive decline later in life. It is often called a “silent killer” because its effects can go unnoticed for years until significant damage has occurred. The good news is that you can often prevent or treat high blood pressure. Early diagnosis and simple healthy changes can keep high blood pressure from seriously damaging your health.

WHO IS AT RISK FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE?

Anyone can develop high blood pressure, but there are certain factors that can increase your risk:

. Age – Blood pressure tends to rise with age

. Weight – People who are overweight or have obesity are more likely to develop prehypertension or high blood pressure

. Gender – Before age 55, men are more likely than women to develop high blood pressure. After age 55, women are more likely than men to develop it.

. Lifestyle – Certain lifestyle habits can raise your risk for high blood pressure, such as eating too much sodium or not enough potassium, lack of exercise, drinking too much alcohol, and smoking.

. Family history – A family history of high blood pressure raises the risk of developing prehypertension or high blood pressure

SO, HOW CAN HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE TACKLED?

You can help prevent high blood pressure by having a healthy lifestyle. This means

Eating a healthy diet: To help manage your blood pressure, you should limit the amount of sodium (salt) that you eat and increase the amount of potassium in your diet. It is also important to eat foods that are lower in fat, as well as plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. The DASH diet is an example of an eating plan that can help you to lower your blood pressure.

Getting regular exercise: Exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight and lower your blood pressure. You should try to get moderate-intensity aerobic exercise at least 2 and a half hours per week, or vigorous-intensity aerobic exercise for 1 hour and 15 minutes per week. Aerobic exercise, such as brisk walking, is any exercise in which your heart beats harder and you use more oxygen than usual.

Being at a healthy weight: Being overweight or having obesity increases your risk for high blood pressure. Maintaining a healthy weight can help you control high blood pressure and reduce your risk for other health problems.

Limiting alcohol: Drinking too much alcohol can raise your blood pressure. It also adds extra calories, which may cause weight gain. Men should have no more than two drinks per day, and women only one.

Not smoking: Cigarette smoking raises your blood pressure and puts you at higher risk for heart attack and stroke. If you do not smoke, do not start. If you do smoke, talk to your health care provider for help in finding the best way for you to quit.

Managing stress: Learning how to relax and manage stress can improve your emotional and physical health and lower high blood pressure. Stress management techniques include exercising, listening to music, focusing on something calm or peaceful, and meditating.

Remember, the surest way to detect hypertension is to constantly check your health. Hypertension detected at an early stage is easier to tackle and curb. Health / Do Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Improve Quality Of Care? by Nimerex: 2:32pm On Feb 03, 2020
Over the past few decades, our medical knowledge has increased. And with the advent in virtually every part of human life, reliable and advanced medical process and treatment options have been made available; as a result, we have seen a huge number of patients in healthcare facilities in Nigeria live longer and a lot more medical errors have been curbed.

To adequately address our patients’ complex needs, we need good sources of information and good relationships, including access to a multidisciplinary team of professionals and other specialists. We need tools that improve access to information and relationships. We have had to transform how we practise, and the EMR - with its associated information technology, has facilitated that transformation. The EMR provides access to information and resources that point primary care providers toward the best approach to the various conditions they encounter in practice - including standard and consistent data entry in specific fields which provides the health practitioner with valuable practice-level information.

In fostering closely-knit relationships among staff members of a healthcare facility, the software makes it possible for other doctors and visiting consultants access chart summaries, medical notes and recommendations - which makes the facility enjoy smooth circulation of patients' info. For the patients, electronic medical records will also improve communication with patients through the use of messaging function which can be leveraged by the facility to share news, promo contents and instructional articles on nationwide epidemics with their patients.

Generally, electronic medical records will help health facilities here in Nigeria improve quality of care, patient outcomes and safety through improved management, reduction in medication errors, reduction in unnecessary investigations, and improved communication and interactions among primary care providers, patients, and other providers involved in care. Also. this system has been demonstrated to improve efficiencies in work flow through reducing the time required to pull charts, improving access to comprehensive patient data, helping to manage prescriptions, improving scheduling of patient appointments, and providing remote access to patients’ charts.

To get access to Electronics Medical Records for your healthcare facility, sign up with Nimerex Electronics Medical Records. Our EMR software is facility-customized, easy to navigate and sure to increase revenue for your facility through our referral platform. Call us on 09087776660.

Health / Electronic Medical Records By Nimerex by Nimerex: 9:40am On Feb 03, 2020
The Electronic Medical Records is basically a digital collection of medical information about a person that is stored on a computer. An electronic medical record includes information about a patient’s health history, such as diagnoses, medicines, tests, allergies, immunizations, and treatment plans. Electronic medical records can be seen by all healthcare providers of a particular healthcare facility who are taking care of a patient and can be used by them to help make recommendations about the patient’s care.

The Electronic Medical Records software has proven to be an effective tool for easy administration of a healthcare facility as it not only shows patients’ records but can also be used to facilitate payments, monitor and track owed bills. Its other benefits include:

Results management: This software will let you receive lab results, radiology reports, and even X-ray images electronically while ensuring tests are not duplicated.

Order entry: No more prescription pads. All your orders are automated using secure e-prescribing technology.

Electronic communications and connectivity: You can talk in cyberspace with patients, your medical assistant and referring doctors —securely. Streamline the workflow of providers as your system interfaces with everyone else‘s.

Patient support: Engage your patients by allowing to them to receive educational material via the system and engage them via mail blast.

Administrative processes: The system lends a hand with practice management and helps avoid delays in treatments. Patients can schedule their own appointments and staffers can check on insurance eligibility.

At the very least, Electronic Medical Records can save time during a doctor’s office visit. And in case of emergency, these records can provide critical, life-saving information to emergency care providers. To get this software for your healthcare facility, contact us at Nimerex Health on 09087776660.
