Man with tattoo all over his face has real chance of being the Czech Republic’s next president

Whoever becomes the Czech Republic’s next president will be the country’s first candidate toever be elected by popular vote. Just days before the election, the surprising third-place candidate is a man whose appearance is equally surprising: Vladimir Franz.

The tattooed opera composer and artist has zero political experienceand admits that he’s clueless about economics .

What he does know is that Czechs are “fed up with” the current political system, which he describes as “crap.” The party-less Franz hadn’t even considered running for office until 88,000 people signed a petition encouraging him to do so.Before his final debate, though, he has one tiny detail to deal with: the final rehearsals for his opera, “War With the Newts.”

Politics / The Remains Of Yakowa Arrives In Kaduna by Nkonadi(m): 9:57am On Dec 19, 2012
With the arrival of former Governor Patrick Yakowa’s body in Kaduna yesterday, the grim reality of his death was fully felt.

The city was thrown into mourning as the AirForce aircraft carrying the body — and the late Yakowa’s friend Dauda Tsoho’s — touched down at the Kaduna Airport in a golden casket draped in the green-white-green national colours.

The body was conveyed from the airport through the Nnamdi Azikiwe Western Byepass to the St. Gerard Catholic Hospital, accompanied by the widow and three of theirchildren — all clad in black dresses.

The airport was filled with sympathisers. Many wept profusely as the plane hovered before landing.

The huge crowd defied the security barricades and rushed on to the tarmac as the casket was being brought down from the plane to catch a glimpse of it.

Women fellowship groups and church societies were praying and singing choruses at the airport and when the casket was brought out of the aircraft, they burst into tears.

While handing over Yakowa’s remains to Governor Multhar Ramalan Yero of Kaduna State, the leader of the Bayelsa State government delegation and Deputy GovernorJohn Jonah said the government yesterday held a valedictory executive session in memory of the late governor who he described as a bridge builder. He urged the people to support Yero to enable him carry on with the foundation laid by the late Yakowa.

Yero praised the government and people of Bayelsa State for their prayers. He assured the people that he would continue with the foundation laid by the late Yakowa for the sustenance of peace, unity and progress in the state.

The Arch bishop of Kaduna Diocese of the Catholic Church, Archbishop Mathew Ndagoso, Bishop George Dodo of Zaria Diocese and the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah prayed.

A Valedictory Executive Council meeting will hold today (Wednesday) at the Government House by 10am. The wake-keep will hold at the Government House later in the day by 3pm

The body is expected to leave St. Gerald Catholic Hospital on Thursday for the Fadan Kagoma, for the interment after a funeral mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Fadan Kagoma.

The bodies of Yakowa and his friend, Dauda Tsoho, arrived in Kaduna yesterday aboard aNigeria AirForce cargo plane at about 2.45 pm.

They were received by Governor Mukthar Ramalan Yero and the widow, Amina Patrick Yakowa.

The bodies were accompanied by former Governor of Bayelsa State and other top government officials.

Others at the airport to receive the bodies were Senator Danjuma Goje, Senator Bukola Saraki, family members and top government officials.

The bodies were later conveyed in a St. Gerard Hospital ambulance and driven in a motorcade through the Nnamdi Azikiwe Western bypass to Saint Gerald Catholic Hospital where they were deposited in the mortuary.

Senate President David Mark and his wife later joined the others at the hospital from where they proceeded to the Government House to see Yakowa’s family.

Senator Nenadi Esther Usman and the Southern Kaduna People in the United States said yesterday that the death of Yakowa has robbed the state of a bridge-builder and a unifier.

Politics / Chime Shakes-Off Death Rumour, Condoles With Yakowa, Azazi’s Families by Nkonadi(m): 5:04pm On Dec 18, 2012
Barely six hours he was rumoured dead in an Indianhospital, Governor Sullivan Iheanacho Chime of Enugu State has condoled with the governments of Kaduna and Bayelsa states, as well as the relations of the late Governor Patrick Yakowa and General Andrew Azazi (retd) who died in a helicopter crash in Bayelsa on Saturday.

The state Commissioner for Information, Mr. ChuksUgwoke, who relayed Chime’s condolences in a statement yesterday in Enugu said Chime described their untimely death as not only shocking and tragic, but also a monumental loss to the entire country, even as he also mourned the others who perished in the crash. Ugwoke said the “Enugu governor who is still on vacation, extendedhis heart-felt condolences to the families of the deceased, while also praying for the repose of their souls.

The release read in part: “As a peace agent who ensured peaceful co-existence among adherents of different faiths, governor Yakowa served his people with commitment and was an embodiment of humility and selfless service, which brought about huge development in Kaduna State. “On his part too,

Gen. Azazi (retd) was a dutiful and gentleman officer and a statesman who served hispeople and nation with diligence and integrity.” The commissioner had on Saturday night when the rumour of the death of Chime was rife told Daily Sun that he was in touch with the governor, insisting that he was still enjoying his consolidated vacation, which began in mid-September.

Also, a close associate and former senior special adviser to Chime, Ben Alukwu has dismissed reports speculating the death of the governor, describing it as a cheap political propaganda. Contrary to speculations and media reports, Alukwu who was political adviser to the governor said he has been in touch with one of the governor’s aides, Mr. Victor Atuonwu, whom he travelled with; “I spoke with them yesterday (Saturday).

“When I heard the rumour I knew it was masterminded by some politicians, who cannot find their feet in the state, trying to distract us from the good work going on in the state. “As far as I am concerned, there is no truth in the rumour making the rounds; if there is anything like that, I think I should be among the first persons to know.He dismissed the reports as mere rumours being cooked up by detractors; “I strongly tell you thatthe governor is not dead; Sullivan Chime is alive. “Death is a natural phenomenon; it doesn’t separate a man from a woman; everybody must beready to answer the call one day; therefore the news of someone should not be cooked up for whatever reason.

“The governor took permission and travelled; he handed over properly to his deputy, who has been acting and carrying out duties on behalf of the governor. There is no problem in the state; the security situation is wonderful and projects are going on. “The roads are being taken care of in all nooks and crannies of the state; all the contractors are working hard; the deputy governor is holding forth pending his arrival.”

Science/Technology / MTN Plans $1.3 Billion Upgrade For 2013 by Nkonadi(m): 1:22pm On Dec 17, 2012
South African telecommunications firm MTN is planning to improve its facilities nationwide investing about $1.3 billion for 2013. This is in a resolve to ensure that it maintains its capacity and leadership in the Nigerian mobile technology market.

This investment is strategically positioned to give its 45 million subscribers more valuable and cutting edge services, even as it plans to gain more leverage in the mobile market through various services planned ahead.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Company Mr Brett Goschen believes the investment is a worthwhile and incisive one which would go a long way to assert the dominance of the network through its vast and upgraded facilities.

He said this while commissioning a new customer experience centre tagged ‘Yello City’.

His words: “We have invested $1.3 billion on the network in 2012 alone. This covers the extensive network optimisation and swap out exercise, which we embarked on in June 2012 and which is now at an advanced stage. And by 2013, we hope to double the investment by putting in another$1.3bn for infrastructure expansion.”

Infrastructure and up to date facilities have been of utmost priority to the South African group as it realizes how stiff the competition is with the other Telcos like Airtel, Globacom, Etisalat, and Visafone.

2012 witnessed some slight challenges for the network in ensuring customers enjoy access to good network and value added services. At the Enugu NCC parliament the customers complained majorly about the MTN network service delivery but with the decision to sustain the investment level in Infrastructure, the Company is definitely poised to show market leadership.

Mr. Akin Braithwaite, the Customer Relations Executive, MTN Nigeria, speaking on the Yello City Initiative said “The Initiative is much larger than our services and retail outlets giving more value to customers”.

The CEO Mr. Goschens went unto apologize to Nigerians for the poor service they experienced at several occasions from the Network which affected service level expectation. He assured its subscribers in the Nation that MTN will step up its game and improve its network quality.

Nairaland / General / 4 Days To The Much Talked About 21/12/2012 by Nkonadi(m): 11:56am On Dec 17, 2012
Four days from now we will be reaching the much talked about deadline 12-21-2012.
The deadline for the world to end!

Yeah, yeah, I know the Mayans just ran out of space on their rock calendar and it has nothing to do with the end of world.

But have you heard about the "Law of Attraction" ?

"the action of Mind plants that nucleus which, if allowed to grow undisturbed, will eventually attract to itself all the conditions necessary for its manifestation in outward visible form." - Thomas Troward

And as we all know, there has been such hype about this. The hysterical and anxious people are actually migrating to places they think would be safe, in anticipation of the "End of World 2012"

So, yes, right now there must be billions of people thinking that the world will end on 12-21-2012.

And according to the above law, this simple thought is going to attract to itself all the conditions necessary for its manifestation..

Though the Mayans might just have ran out of space, it did however provoke billions of thoughts!

Who knows, if right now the universe is not conspiring to make all those thoughts manifest itself?!?

As for me - this is exactly where I picture the most obnoxious man that I have met in my life and think,
