Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele has advised the Federal Government to tax Nigerians for every call above 3 minutes as part of plans to cushion the effect of the economic recession.

He said this while speaking at the Annual Bankers’ Dinner in Lagos on Friday, November 18th.

He said the government could raise additional revenue by introducing the charge.


He said, “There are several ways we can raise additional revenue to finance the increased expenditure that is needed to engender fast and sustainable growth in the economy,”

Emefiele said, “I think we can consider introducing a negligible telecom surcharge to be entirely borne by the initiator of a call. In order to protect the poor and vulnerable amongst us, we could structure it to only take effect after the third minute of talk.

“Some analyses have indicated that the government could earn about N100 billion per annum from this alone. Obviously, this surcharge will mainly be borne by middle and upper-class people since I do not know many poor people who make calls for more than 3 minutes!”

A young girl has been left in serious pain after her heartless boyfriend poured acid on her while she was sleeping.

A heartless 21-year-old bus conductor has left many people in shock after he bathed his girlfriend with acid. The incident happened in Ghana.

The evil man identified as Stephen Donkor attacked the girlfriend while she was sleeping. The two had been quarrelling as the girlfriend identified as Oforiwaa, 18 had threatened to end the relationship.

Police say Donkor and his girlfriend who lived in a wooden kiosk at Dakurman in Accra, had been quarrelling for some time.

On the day of the incident, Donkor returned from work and realised that there was no food to eat. It led to a fight between the two, which prompted a neighbour to intervene.

Later when Oforiwaa was sleeping, Donkor went to pick acid he had hidden under the kiosk and poured it on her.

Oforiwaa is said to have screamed for help, drawing the attention of neighbours, who rushed her to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where she is still undergoing treatment.

Police say Donkor poured the acid on Oforiwaa because he suspected that she was cheating on him. He has been arrested and charged with attempted murder.

"I mean who does dat to a new born even if d mother doesn't want d baby; she can at least give birth to it and give it to someone who needs baby.... And there I watched "Iyawo" one of my neighbors shedding tears uncontrollably because she has been married for so many years without an issue, and I tried thinking of what will be going on in her mind at dat moment...... Moments later, a woman removed her head gear and wrapped d baby properly with it....... And I keep wondering d millions of mosquitoes dat would have fed on d new born's blood, d insect bites, d starvation d baby might have gone thru cos I know d mother can never breastfeed him.... Thank God for d quick intervention of Ikosi ISheri LCDA, God bless d midwives, Nurses and d First Aid staffs there..... I am not writing dis for writing sake but I am writing this as a mother to be, pls whoever needs d baby should try and Adopt him legally, he's currently receiving treatment at Ikosi Isheri LCDA health centre, ketu Lagos state."
