Education / Has Anyone Finished With A 5.0 CGPA From A Nigerian Uni Apart From That Unilag S by NollywoodFreak: 10:27am On Oct 10, 2016
Has anyone finished with a 5.0 CGPA from a Nigerian university apart from that Unilag Psychology student?

I had an heated argument with some colleagues of mine who claimed that Ayodeji Dada of Unilag was the first ever in the history of Nigerian educational system to finish with a perfect grade. Someone said there was a lecturer in mathematics department in Uniben that finished with a 5.0. I went on the internet but could not find any evidence to that effect. There was also another claim of one Kelechi Eze from UNN, yet nothing
on the internet. I find it strange to believe that no one has ever had a 5.0 CGPA before Ayodeji Dada. it is important for the right information to be in circulation in Nigeria. I need evidence not just claims. The nation newspaper said he was the first in Nigeria university history but I doubt they did a proper research before concluding that?

My question for Nairalanders is:
Has anyone ever finished in a Nigerian university with a 5.0 CGPA? Do you have an evidence for this? What school are you talking about?
If the uniben lecturer actually finished with a 5.0 from OAU, why was it not publicized?

Please mods front page. Many Nigerians need to be enlightened. The wrong information is spreading to even newspapers.

Family / Teen Sues Parents For Posting Embarrassing Childhood Pictures On Facebook by NollywoodFreak: 9:22pm On Sep 15, 2016
An 18-year-old Austrian woman is suing her parents for posting embarrassing photos of her on Facebook without her consent.
The woman claims her parents have, since 2009, shared over 500 “embarrassing and intimate” pictures on the site with their 700 Facebook friends which have “made her life a misery”.

"They knew no shame or limits. Whether I was sitting on the potty or naked in my crib, my every step was recorded photographically and, afterwards, made public,” the unnamed teenager told Austrian magazine Die ganze Woche.

— RT America (@RT_America) January 29, 2016
The woman’s father, from the Carinthia region, sees no reason to delete the images and believes the pictures belong to him because he took them.

“I see it as my right to publish these pictures,” said the also unnamed man to the magazine. “After all it’s our children and, for my wife and myself, it’s a nice family album that goes down well with our Facebook friends".

The teen’s lawyer Michael Rami is confident, however, his client will be successful when the case is heard in November, reports The Local.
This is the first such case to be tried in Austria, but the outcomes of similar trials in Europe points to possible financial compensation for the woman if she can prove the shared images violated her right to a personal life.

TV/Movies / Why Genevieve Nnaji Was Dropped From AMAA 2016 Nominations by NollywoodFreak: 2:41am On Jun 02, 2016
Genevieve didn't comply with our instructions – AMAA rep

Nollywood star Genevieve Nnaji fails to make nominees list for the AMAA 2016

– The actress who made her production debut in 2015 with Road To Yesterday won for Best West African Movie at the AMVCA 2016

– Against the backdrop of this and recent successes of the movie, many wonder why she failed to grab any nomination at the AMAA 2016

In an exclusive chat with NAIJ.com, AMAA explained that the actress didn’t adhere to set out rules hence her exclusion from the nominees list Genevieve Nnaji is a powerhouse as far as Nollywood and Nigerian entertainment is concerned and there are many testaments to this. First, there are international recognition from major media outfits (CNN inclusive) and then there are corporate brand affiliations which have seen her enjoy considerable financial rewards among other things. Lastly, her acting career which was previously simmering towards something of legendary status recorded several more points on the score sheets with the release of her production debut Road To Yesterday in 2015. It was a major point in the life of the 37-year-old and when NAIJ.com met up with her in Lagos for a quick chat on the epoch-making project involving British Nigerian actor and model Oris Erhuero, she said it was a challenging experience.

She explained in clearer words saying: “I was wearing too many hats [during the course of acting, the filming and production of Road To Yesterday] and I had to be strong all the way.” The movie eventually dropped in Lagos on November 13, 2015 with a premiere at the Genesis Deluxe Cinema and enjoyed several other premieres across the nation just as it was warmly received by critics.

Against this background, it comes as a bit of a shocker that the Ije actress didn’t get any nomination for the 2016 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA). The nominees list dropped on Monday, May 16, 2016 and to the surprise of many she didn’t get any nomination in several categories she ordinarily fits into. So we made efforts to reach AMAA representatives as we sought to get to the root of the matter and the response from them was pretty much surprising. According to insiders, the widely-famed actress failed to comply with the registration processes at AMAA which led the organizers to exclude her 2015 romance-themed movie Road To Yesterday from all the categories it could have been nominated in. A representative at AMAA spoke to us on condition of anonymity explaining that they’d reached the actress a number of times but she wasn’t forth coming with required details on her movie.

“You see, there are several stages to AMAA. We often reach out to potential nominees asking them to fill out forms, submit and comply with a few other steps which aid our selection processes among other things. “Genevieve’s non-adherence to our instructions and failure to submit the required responses to AMAA even after she was reached several times led to her exclusion from the nominees list. “It’s simple. There couldn’t have been a consideration for her role in the movie Road To Yesterday because she didn’t comply with basic instructions.” Given this, NAIJ.com editor Henry Igwe asked how all of this played out and how many times the actress was contacted because there’s every possibility she probably missed the requests sent to her. But our source replied saying they contacted the movie star several times for almost three weeks, all to no avail. He said: “All we wanted was for her team to send in details about the movie, the video link, the DVD preview copy of the movie Road To Yesterday and a few other details but they never responded. They eventually did after the nominees list came out.” What exactly was their response when they got back to you, what was their tone like? AMAA representative: “Oh they responded just fine, the lady from her camp, her manager, I think Chinny Onwugbenu who co-produced the film, was like ‘Hi, can we still do this? Can we still send in the reply cuz we just got your mail on AMAA’ and all that. “But it was already too late. At AMAA, we keep everything professional and we have certain standards that must be adhered to.

“Her team responded only yesterday [Monday, May 16] and it was already late which is why Genevieve Nnaji didn’t make the AMAA 2016 nominations. “AMAA is very reputable and we’ve built an image across Africa. Over the years, we’ve become something like the Oscars of Africa and we try to maintain that standard. “With [Genevieve’s] level of professionalism, we’d have thought she’d adhere to the rules but she didn’t.” Efforts by NAIJ.com to reach Genevieve Nnaji’s camp proved abortive as calls were unanswered and messages unreplied. We shall keep you updated as details unfold in this light from Genevieve’s camp. The AMAA is one of the continent’s most prestigious awards famed for recognizing outstanding talents in acting and movie production.

The first edition held in 2005 and the awards has rewarded loads of movie stars over the years. Now in its 12th year, the 2016 edition of the AMAA is billed to hold on Saturday, June 11, 2016 in Port Harcourt.

Hypocrite Nigerians.

You come online and insult gay people and even see them beating up helpless gay people on the streets of Nigeria, yet they'd be the first to line up for visas to same countries that recognise gay people as normal people, even to the point of faking being a gay man kn order to seek asylum.

It's bad enough that you don't want gay people in Nigeria, now the fool is making it hard for the real gay people to actually leave the useless country called Nigeria.

I hope the idiot gets locked up for life.

I am interested in sharing minds on intelligent topics with young ladies. I believe that Nairaland is a place where I can seek information and get a favourable response. Please can anyone let me know the university Omotola's daughter attends? I am also keen in knowing her course of study. I will like us to read together so that we can discuss assignments and profer solutions to pressing Nigerian problems such as high fuel scarcity, poor education system and mass unemployment.

I understand that she attended Chrisland, Idimu so if anyone from that school has her personal details he/she should please post it on this thread.

God bless you all.

There was also an APC/SW rating yesterday on UI. So this is a PDP/SS ranking right?

This is a wrong rating,I guess money must have changed hangs between Uniport officials & rating officials. WES printed it red ink that they don’t accept or recognize any certificate from Uniport. So who rated the nonsense. A university that produce the dullest administrator in the world, a university that produced the worst English speaking wife of the dullest administrator in the world. SO WHAT MAKES UNIPORT NUMBER 1.Any1 can sit in his bed room & kitchen & get her his/her Bsc,Msc & Phd from Uniport without writing ABC on a blank paper so far he or she can settle with oil money.

Education / What Is Wrong With A Lecturer Not Having A 2-1 1st Degree? by NollywoodFreak: 12:21am On May 07, 2015
Something very stupid happened recently that I am still trying to understand. So I had a friend that recently finished his Masters from a very reputable federal university in S/West Nigeria. He was among the top 3 in his department in the Masters program. He was working towards getting a lecturing assistant job in the school. Several Msc graduates in his set applied for the post and he was the most qualified based on his masters results among the people that wanted to become lecturers. Then something strange happened, he received a call yesterday from the department, they asked him what he got in his 1st degree he said 2-2, then they said they can only employ 2-1 1st degree people. Note that, he had his 1st degree in a sub-standard university in the s/east, and at that time he was not very serious and was heavily distracted. What is annoying me is that the lecturers know very well that he understands the courses better than the people with 2-1 but they still ignored him. I am really sad for him right now.

Strange Epidemic in Ondo Community: Chief Says Death of 28 is Due to Wrath of gods

High Chief, Moses Enimade, the Oyewoga of Ode Irele in Ondo State, says the deaths were caused by sacrilege done to Molokun, god of the land.

Enimade stated this during an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Irele on Saturday.

He debunked the rumour that the deaths were caused by a strange disease or Ebola virus.

According to Enimade, some stubborn youths broke into the inner room of Molokun Shrine on April 15.

“Molokun is a deity of the land, only the Chief Priest and High Chief Gboguron are qualified to enter the shrine,” he said.

The chief said the youths entered the shrine and made away with traditional items in a bid to acquire extra-ordinary powers and engage in money ritual.

“They were not qualified to enter the room (shrine). They had to face death penalty,” he said.

The Oyewoga said he could not remember the last time Malokun or any other gods had to strike like this in the area.

According to him, there is no community or town without its own culture and tradition; what happened in Irele is the judgement of the gods on stubborn youths.

“Even the Kabiesi himself is not permitted to enter the Molokun Shrine’s inner room except the Chief Priest and High Chief Gboguron. Sacrifice must be performed before they can enter. Because these youths want to be rich at all costs, they entered the sacred place and made away with traditional items and 20 of them have died as a result of their desperate acts, We have to appease the gods or else many will still die and we have to bury them according to tradition. Their corpses belong to the gods and will be exhumed if buried by their families,’’ he said.

He restated that the deaths were not caused by diseases or ebola as widely speculated. He emphasized that the death caused by Molokun is characterised by severe headache and blindness, which are the symptoms experienced by victims of the strange disease.

“Proverbs 29:1 in the Bible says: ‘he that had been reproved and hardened his neck shall suddenly be destroyed without remedy; so youths of nowadays must be careful,'” Enimade said.

Some residents who spoke with NAN appealed to the chief priest to make necessary atonement to avert calamity in the town.

They said news of the deaths had given the town and state a bad name.

A resident, Sheed Osuolale said he was afraid when the news broke.

Similarly, Esther Bantefa said the news had given the town and the state a bad name adding that the chief priest should as a matter of urgency perform necessary rituals.

“Our people in Lagos and other towns called us to get information if it was Ebola outbreak’’, she said.

Tayo Akinyelure advised that parents should warn their children against going near shrines.

“Many youths do not believe in all these traditions and customs. It is high time parents warned their children against committing sacrilege’’, she said.
