From the inception of the scheme the federal government made it very clear that the project was to run for two years, so this out cry is not worth it because the beneficiaries of the scheme know what they signed up for from the very start of the program,The government even did well by extending the program by one more year for the batch A beneficiaries. If the loan actually works out, it would be a good stepping stone for the beneficiaries to start something else. 3 Likes |

The vehicle didn't, i repeat didn't touch the wall. it crashed close to the wall after jumping over the side walk which is before the wall, hence why the vehicle is damaged and by the way this didn't happen yesterday. lets take things easy. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Nairaland / General / Vector Replies M.I By Announcing Collabo With Davido by Obiaksnews: 2:49pm On Oct 08, 2019 |
It seems like the current "beef" between rappers M.I and vector would not be ending anytime soon as vector seems to have replied to M.I's diss track which was titled "The Viper" where M.I alleged that vector's career is dead. Vector in a way decided to respond that he is still very much in the game by announcing that he has a new project with fellow popular artist Davido, which would be a huge collabo when it drops. Vector and Davido both took to their instagram pages to announce the collabo titled "Comfort" they both shared the album art on their pages and told their fans to expect some fireworks. Since the announcement fans of both artist have taken to their pages to show their excitement towards the new song. This definitely looks and sounds interesting. http://news.obiaks.com/191008014649/Vector-to-collaborate-with-Davido-amidst-beef-with-MI-Abaga-.html

Crime / More Trouble For Invictus Obi As He Forfeits N280.5m To FG by Obiaksnews: 8:29am On Oct 08, 2019 |
Justice Rilwan Aikawa of a Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the interim forfeiture of N280.5 million in the bank accounts of two firms linked to Obinwanne Okeke, popularly known as Invictus Obi, to the Federal Government. The 31-year-old Okeke is currently standing trial in the United States of America for an alleged $11 million cyber fraud. Justice Aikawa’s order was sequel to the granting of an ex-parte motion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The two firms involved are Invictus Oil and Gas Limited and Invictus Investment Limited. In his arguments, EFCC’s lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo, said the motion was brought pursuant to Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2006, Section 44 (2) (b) of the Constitution and under the inherent jurisdiction of the court. The lawyer told the court that the funds domiciled in First City Monument Bank (FCMB) and Zenith Bank, were “reasonably suspected” to be proceeds of cyber crime. He sought for an order of Interim forfeiture of the fund to the Federal Government to prevent Okeke from dissipating same saying the court is empowered by law to do so. After listening to Oyedepo’s submissions, Justice Aikawa made an order for the temporary forfeiture of the fund to the Federal Government. He also directed the anti-graft agency to publish the interim order in a national daily for the two firms or any other interested party to show cause within 14 days why the fund should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government. In an affidavit in support of the motion, an EFCC’s investigator, Ariyo Muritala, disclosed that he was one of the officers assigned to investigate the request for information from the United States Department of Justice, office of the Legal Attache, U.S Consulate General, on Obinwanne George Okeke and three others.

Nairaland / General / Noise Pollution: How Man Lost Case Against Cockerel by Obiaksnews: 10:32am On Sep 12, 2019 |
A French man Jean-Louis Biron has lost his lawsuit against a Cockerel named Maurice over complaint about the bird’s early morning crowing. Biron, who lives in the city of Rochefort, brought the case against the four-year-old bird after buying a holiday home next to his owners in nearby Ile d’Oleron, a small island off France’s west coast. However, a French tribunal rejected the complaint about the bird’s early morning crowing and ordered that Maurice’s owner, Corinne Fesseau be paid €1,000 (₦399,275) in damages. The two-year dispute, symbolic of a culture clash, has pitted the old rural way of life against modern values. “Today Maurice has won a battle for the whole of France,” owner Corrine Fesseau said.Mr Biron started complaining about Maurice’s early morning crowing to his owners, Jacky and Corrine Fesseau, but they refused to get rid of their beloved cockerel. “The cock’s screeching starts at 4:30 a.m., and keeps up all morning and well into the afternoon,” Mr Biron wrote in an official letter to his neighbours in 2017. As Maurice continued to crow, the row escalated and – against the advice of their lawyers and a mediator – the two sides decided to fight it out in court. The case featured in national newspapers, T-shirts supporting Maurice went on sale and letters of solidarity from as far away as the U.S. were sent. http://news.obiaks.com/190912092323/Noise-pollution--How-man-lost-case-against-Cockerel-.htmlhttp://news.obiaks.com/190912092323/Noise-pollution--How-man-lost-case-against-Cockerel-.html

Politics / JUST IN: Court Rules On Atiku’s Claim On INEC Server-presidential Tribunal by Obiaksnews: 4:23pm On Sep 11, 2019 |
The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, in its ongoing ruling on Wednesday, declared that there is no evidence showing that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC transmitted the results of the last presidential election electronically to any server. The court held that the petitioners, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, failed to prove the existence of any INEC server. The judgment still being read on the petition by Atiku and the PDP challenging the victory of President Buhari and the APC, held that the petitioners also failed to prove that INEC transmitted results electronically. The court held that there is no law in place in Nigeria that allows electronic transmission of results or the transmission of results using a card reader. Justice Mohammed Garba, the president of the Tribunal, said, “I have carefully examined and examined Exhibit 28 (INEC Manual for Election) tendered by the petitioners, I did not see where there is provision for electronic transmission of the result of election.” http://news.obiaks.com/190911031824/-Presidential-Tribunal--Court-rules-on-Atiku-s-claim-on-INEC-server.html

Nairaland / General / EFCC Begins Probe Of Obj’s $16bn Power Project, Arrests 4 by Obiaksnews: 11:23am On Aug 29, 2019 |
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday detained two top officials of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), the company which supervised execution of the $16 billion failed power projects. The officials are Head of Finance Marvel Emefiele and Head of Compensation Eze M. C. Odigbo. They are expected to account for the N850 million earmarked as compensation to communities where components of the power project were sited. Others in EFCC’s net are Managing Director of Pivot Engineering Mr. Richard Ayibiowu and the Managing Director of Chris Ejik Nigeria Limited Mr. Christain Ejik Imoka. Detectives are on the trail 18 more suspects including two former governors, a former chairman of a bank and a former chairman of an airline. About 15 more companies are also on the EFCC radar, it was learnt last night. There are fears that some of the suspects might have secretly relocated abroad. President Muhammadu Buhari has repeatedly wondered how $16 billion was spent on power and there is no electricity generated. He subsequently ordered a probe into the expenditure. A source in the anti-graft commission said: “The NPDHC officials are being detained by the EFCC, following their alleged involvement in bogus payment and diversion of about N850million compensation to communities where the components of the power projects were sited. Investigation revealed that approval was granted for the payment of N84billion to the communities where transmission lines of the power project are meant to be laid. Investigators discovered that there were serious issues arising from the payment of the compensation to the communities. Though about N50 billion compensation was said to have been paid to the communities, the contractors were said to have been prevented from working by the communities over non- payment of the same compensation which the NPDHC records claimed had been paid. Emefiele was said to have approved the payment of N850million as NPDHC Head of Finance while Odigbo, Head of Compensation reportedly effected the compensation to the communities. The two officials are being quizzed over the propriety of the matter. The Managing Director of Pivot Engineering, Mr. Richard Ayibiowu, is being detained over alleged payment of N350million to the communities. Part of LOT 8 of the power project, Ihiala /Orlu Transmission Line, was not executed by Pivot Engineering due to the alleged claim of hostility by the communities while about N350million was on record as paid to the same communities. Mr. Oba Otudeko is the chairman of Pivot Engineering. The Managing Director of Chris Ejik Nigeria Limited, Mr. Christain Ejik Imoka, is being detained over controversial payment of N500million contract LOT 14, which ought to include Lekki-Ajah Transmission Line, which was not executed. But money was paid to that effect. The detained officials allegedly failed to honour previous invitations from the commission. The source said: “We have invited about 15 companies implicated in the mismanagement of funds meant for the power projects. One of the firms got four contracts but was only able to put in place 30 per cent of the construction. The firm also claimed that it imported certain materials since 2013 and lying in Onne Port without clearing. to have approved the payment of N850million as NPDHC Head of Finance while Odigbo, Head of Compensation reportedly effected the compensation to the communities. The two officials are being quizzed over the propriety of the matter.

Crime / Rape: Indonesian Man To Face Castration by Obiaksnews: 10:04am On Aug 26, 2019 |
An Indonesian man named Muh Aris bin Syukur from the city of Mojokerto in East Java was sentenced with chemical castration for the rape of nine children in a landmark ruling for the country. In 2016, President Joko Widodo signed a Perppu (Presidential Regulation In Lieu of Law) introducing the death penalty and chemical castration for convicted child molesters, which was ratified into law that same year by the House of Parliament (DPR). Three years on, Aris has become the first convicted child molester to be given the sentence in court. Aris was found guilty of raping nine girls from 2015-2018 in Mojokerto. He was arrested in October 2018 after he was caught by a CCTV camera molesting his latest victim. As reported by CNN Indonesia, documents from Aris’ court case showed that, on July 18, the Mojokerto High Court upheld a 12-year prison sentence and IDR100 million (US$7,012) fine given to Aris by the Mojokerto District Court in May. While that sentence is more lenient than the 17 years demanded by prosecutors, the District Court judges handed Aris an additional punishment for his crimes. We hereby give the additional sentence in the form of chemical castration to the convicted,” the court ruling reads. The case prosecutors did not demand that Aris be chemically castrated in their indictment. Given that the punishment has no precedent in Indonesia, the Mojokerto Prosecutors Office say they have no means yet to chemically castrate Aris so no date for the execution of the sentence has yet been announced. Chemical castration as a punishment was ratified into law in Indonesia after the shockingly brutal gang rape and murder of a teenage girl in Bengkulu in 2016. Activists say that the threat of severe punishment has not been as successful a deterrent as the government hoped, as sexual assault against children continue to be a serious problem in Indonesia. A lack of means has been one of the main barriers preventing the punishment from being rendered to convicted child molesters thus far. Soon after the punishment was introduced, the government controversially sought the help of The Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) to chemically castrate convicted child molesters, but the country’s medical professionals refused on the grounds that the procedure violates medical ethics. http://news.obiaks.com/190826081449/Rape--Indonesian-man-to-face-castration-.html

Nairaland / General / Faulty Elevator Crushes Man To Death In New York Building (video) by Obiaksnews: 3:39pm On Aug 23, 2019 |
A 30-year-old man was crushed to death by a falling elevator in his luxury apartment building Thursday as passengers watched in horror, officials said. Samuel Waisbren rode the elevator down to the lobby of his 23-story apartment building, known as the Manhattan Promenade, at 344 Third Ave. near E. 26th Street with six other residents about 8:30 a.m., but didn’t make it out alive. The victim’s devastated father, Dr. Charles Waisbren, made this known to the New York Daily News by phone from his home in Milwaukee on Friday. It’s hard to see how you can go on living when such a big thing is taken from you,” Waisbren said. He added: “Sam was an absolutely wonderful young man. Smart and loving and very, very sensitive. He had his whole life ahead of him. Waisbren started to walk out of the elevator on the heels of another passenger when the lift suddenly plummeted, crushing him, according to officials and a building worker who witnessed the gruesome mishap. The passenger, who made it off the elevator spun around and tried to help the trapped victim. A worker, who witnessed the horror said, ”The elevator took him down. It’s awful. It was disgusting. The five people who remained on the descending elevator were forced to watch as Waisbren was sucked into the gap between the shaft and the elevator car, officials said. Some people were left on the car after the car moved down to the basement,” FDNY Chief Anthony Arpaia said. Waisbren was crushed by the elevator against a shaft wall and died at the scene, authorities said. Arpaia said responding firefighters scrambled to remove the five horrified passengers and free the victim. The patient was unfortunately stuck between the first floor and basement. We had to work pretty hard to get the elevator car moved and extract the patient,” Arpaia added. Waisbren moved to the city six years ago, relatives said. He worked in sales at software company CB Insights. A Midwest boy goes out to the big city, and dies. It’s just horrible to feel that he’s not going to grow up to have children, to have his own family, progress in his career,” said his father. The dad said that his son had complained to his parents about elevator problems in the building. One-bedroom units go for 3,600 dollars in the building. My feeling about New York is you pay a bazillion dollars for rent, the least they could do is provide safety,” the victim’s father said. The building’s management company, ATA Enterprises, did not return calls for comment. The building has 17 past building violations, none of them for elevator issues. But residents said the building’s two elevators have long been an issue. There’s always something wrong with the elevators. They’re always down, people are getting stuck,” said Dayna Sargen, 39, who’s lived in the building with her husband and two small kids for two years. If I had ever thought that this could happen I would’ve never ever put myself and my family in an elevator. It’s just sad. It’s tragic,” she added. City Buildings Department inspectors were investigating how the elevator malfunctioned. Elevators are the safest form of travel in New York, due to the city’s stringent inspection and safety requirements. We’re determined to find out what went wrong at this building and seek ways to prevent incidents like this in the future,” said Buildings Department spokeswoman Abigail Kunitz. Nairaland / General / Busola Dakolo: COZA Founder, Biodun Fatoyinbo Reacts To Pfn’s Probe Report by Obiaksnews: 3:03pm On Aug 23, 2019 |
Founder and Senior Pastor of the Commonwealth Of Zion Assembly (COZA), Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo has reacted to the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) probe report into allegations against him by Busola Dakolo. The report was declared inconclusive due to the Pastor’s failure to appear before the investigative panel. Fatoyinbo, in a statement on Friday by Ademola Adetuberu, his Senior Assistant, recalled that when he was invited a few days ago by Pastor Akinola Akinwale, the National Administrative Secretary of PFN, he explained that he would not honour the invitation due to legal advice hinged on the ongoing Police investigation. The statement read: “The legal advice was also premised on the Press Statement issued and personally signed by the PFN President, Bishop Felix Omobude, where our Pastor was publicly disowned. Based on the foregoing, we are convinced beyond reasonable doubt that the PFN was already prejudiced and may not conduct an impartial session. According to the report, Rev Omobude, whom we hold in high esteem, went further to crucify our Pastor without seeking to know his side of the story on the matter. With all due respect, we consider this a prejudicial position in dispensing justice and fairness. Even our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ was given an opportunity for fair hearing by the Kangaroo Panel set up with the prime motive of condemning Him to death. Up till today, there was never any written invitation from the panel or the PFN leadership, apart from the telephone call which we explained why our Pastor could not come, requesting him officially to appear before the panel. A few days ago, a National Officer of the PFN, who spoke to our Senior Lawyer, was informed of the basis why Pastor Fatoyinbo was advised not to appear before the PFN’s panel until the Police investigation into the matter was concluded. Once the Police investigation is over, our Pastor is ready to honour the invitation. We have also been legally advised to deploy judicial intervention to clear our Pastor as soon as possible, and the process has commenced in earnest. We appreciate those who stood and still standing by us. It is our hope that the truth shall prevail at the end. http://news.obiaks.com/190823014551/Busola-Dakolo--COZA-founder--Biodun-Fatoyinbo-reacts-to-PFN-s-probe-report.html

Politics / $9 Billion Fraud: Jonathan’s Camp Reacts As Buhari’s Minister Vows To Probe Ex-p by Obiaksnews: 12:37pm On Aug 23, 2019 |
The camp of former President, Goodluck Jonathan, has reacted to yesterday’s declaration by the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, that he will probe the $9 billion judgment against Nigeria in the United Kingdom. Before Malami’s comment on Thursday, Jonathan’s camp had accused Buhari administration of trying to make a case against the former President by claiming that he is responsible for the $9 billion judgment against Nigeria in the United Kingdom in a case brought against the nation by Messrs P & ID. And speaking at his resumption at his ministry yesterday, the Minister blamed the embarrassing fiasco that is the $9 billion billion judgment debt on the preceding Jonathan administration. He had said, “Nigerians woke up on Friday, August 16, 2019, to the rudest consequences of the underhand dealings of the past administration that has resulted in the award of $9 billion against the Federal Republic of Nigeria by a British court which ruled that Process and Industrial Development Limited (P&ID) had the right to seize $9 billion in Nigerian assets. In a statement, signed and made available to the press on Friday by Reno Omokri, the above statement by Malami was “nothing but deliberate misinformation by an incompetent administration that is steeped in propaganda and wants to pull the wool over the eyes of Nigerians. It added, “My attention has been drawn to statements credited to General Muhammadu Buhari’s newly retained Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), wherein the said minister blamed the embarrassing fiasco that is the $8.9 billion judgment debt on the preceding Jonathan administration. The fact of the matter is that the preceding Jonathan government had no hand in the conception, negotiation, and signing of the said P&ID contract. The contract was signed in January of 2010, whereas the Jonathan administration came into being, in an acting capacity, on February 9, 2010. The only role that the preceding Jonathan administration played was that of damage control. However, such patriotic efforts were frustrated by Mr. Malami himself, along with his boss, General Buhari. Yes, the Jonathan administration was involved in negotiating a settlement with P&ID when the company initially went to arbitration. In the first instance, it negotiated down the demand by P&ID for loss of revenue to $1.5bn, then this was again brought down to about $850m by that government. This was at the tail end of that administration. Negotiations were still ongoing and these were included in the handover notes to the Buhari regime. However, rather than accede to the counsel of the previous government in the handover notes, the whole matter was messed up by the present government, partly because General Buhari did not have a government in place for 6 months after he was sworn in on May 29, 2015, which meant that Nigeria was not properly represented at the arbitration. It is the suspicion that some officials in this government wanted Nigeria to lose so that they could be settled by P&ID. Thereafter, the Buhari government treated the whole issue with levity. Through our informants in the current government, we learned that during a meeting Mr. Yemi Osinbajo held with the then Minister for Power, Mr. Tunde Fashola in late 2015, the latter dismissed the court case, saying it was of no significance. In another meeting held amongst Mr. Osinbajo, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, Mr. Malami and Mr. Supo Shasore, who had obtained an injunction at the Federal High Court against the seat of arbitration, Mr. Malami again treated the case with levity and informed Mr. Shasore and Mr. Osinbajo that another set of lawyers had been appointed to defend Nigeria at the commercial court in London. Premium Times, a newspaper that was much opposed to the Jonathan administration, had in an investigative report showed how the current administration deliberately messed up the case in the myopic view that they could use it to spite the previous government. The Buhari government should stop finger-pointing and start looking for solutions to its own self-induced challenges. It must be aware that it is too late in the day to rewrite history. Finally, I note that Mr. Malami has said at the news conference that he was going to supersede his previous achievements at the ministry of justice. My take on that is that it will not be very hard to do that since Mr. Malami had little or no achievements to write home about at the ministry. What do Nigerians know him for? Mr. Malami is best known for going to court to stop the Nigerian Senate’s probe into who recalled, reinstated and double promoted Maina, the pension thief. Is that an achievement? Mr. Malami should not insult our intelligence! He should be better described as Minister for Injustice. The pblame game continues almost 5b years after the goodluck ebel jonathan administration left office, but sides of the divide keeps throwing blame at each other for the current state of nigeria's economy. http://news.obiaks.com/190823110923/-9-billion-fraud--Jonathan-s-camp-reacts-as-Buhari-s-Minister-vows-to-probe-ex-President.html
