These birds are not doing bad at all,I guess something is wrong somewhere .a vet doctor should be able to provide a lasting solution to there problems delay sometime may be due to hatchery and not from the breeder.reason why we need competent hands to operate our hatcheries.sorry brother I can feel your pain.pls consult a vet dr.my candid advise.

fnk:
Couple things that can hurt your farm and your profitability is the people that works there, what I mean is their ability to steal and bring in disease into the farm. Theft, is one big thing, one by one, they can sell off your birds/eggs. So having a trusted person is very important. I was at my farm couple months ago, and someone walked in asking to buy some eggs. Now we don't have eggs but imagine that we have and my people are not trusted people, harmlessly, they could sell the guy, 2,4, 6, or even 12 eggs. Or 1, 2, or even 6 grown birds, and before you know it, your farm is bleeding for profit.

Talking about salary, personally I don't think you need a certificate to attend to the birds in the farm, find someone, work with him or her at the farm for some time, create relationship of trust and teach them what to do daily on the farm. preferable he or she lives in the farm, but as much time as you can afford go to your farm and spend time with your people there, it is important.

We still need people with certificate in agriculture to operate machinery .

I'm thinking of starting 500 DOC, my concern for now is will d farm manager be able to rear them to d POL with minimum mortality
Thanks

The question here now is who is a farm manager?if he cannot raise a doc to pol.going by my epistles I thought you have the chicken already in cages.if your manager have no livestock experience especially poultry business I will say you should discontinue till when you will get poultry manager.don't forget its a sensitive aspect of business where you deal in live stocks not dead stocks.
Agriculture / Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by obnelly: 9:03am On Nov 22, 2013
Yes you may employ somebody as a manager to help control daily operation in the farm, but before then you must have your records checked at all time.for example if you have 100 layers and 85 are laying while you are managing it by yourself and mortality reduce to the minimum and to you you are not doing bad.so also you need to go through your new managers report on a daily bases.if your managers report is not too good like that of your then begin to smell rat in your farm.do phyiscal counting of your birds to make sure its what your manager put in records .total eggs and total sales of eggs, number of total feed and water quantity should be checked in record.in all your manager cannot run it the way you will but then remember at a point in life we need managers to run our farms.why not give the manager a trial.farm records is what will safe your ass.

Cheers

If the chickens are eating and drinking nothing to worry about, try and observe if there is any infection in the pen.Are those chicken active, what about the colour in their droppings ,is it the normal droppings.

Are they crowded on floor or in the cage?If the spacing is not right while they were on floor, they might lay egg late if you put them in cages .what about air ventilation across the pen house. its very important.

Bright wattle and comb is an indication that they are ready for laying, the ear lobe should give you a whitish feather too.The shape of the vent and the breast will tell if they are ready.

Dont be too anxious to get eggs from them, its 50-50 deal good environment with good feed will give good result.

If after 22-23wks and still no eggs i advice you change to layer mash and dont forget to send my eggs .

I am off to the farm to activate my Bio reactor project.

see you on Top

cheers

[quote author=boluwajokosegun]THE GREEN OIL WELL-Jatropha (Biofuel)
This is new in Nigeria & u can make a lot of money just by being a biofuel farmer. We at eesteeresources have Jatroha plantation, as i speak we set up farm for investors & buy back the seeds after 6 months of planting the 2 months old seedlings , we sell hybrid seedling @ N40 per stand,As a member of our farmers club, we write feasibility study on agric biz, send news letter, we help to rent private/ govt land@ less than N2,500 per acre we have 300 acres of arable land in the west for lease & some for sale to interested investors who are member of our farmer’s club-registration fee is N3,500 . Presently MTN uses biofuel to run their base stations all over the country, In this business there is no waste because both oil & shaft is marketable besides there are people who plant & use the biofuel to run their generator in Oyo state more so we have foreigners waiting to buy the cake. Jatropha plant seeds for up to 50 years & seed is ready for harvest when the plant is 8 months old , Jatropha seed cake can be mixed with energy sources such as maize to compound livestock feeds, and it is relatively cheap. The juice from the leaves can be used in the treatment and prevention of many ailments. The stem can be cut and used as a chewing stick to cure bleeding gums, smelling mouth and so on. Toothpaste can be produced from it. Presently in Nigeria ceiling board is produced from Jatropha, better than asbestos, they are environmentally friendly, very cheap and affordable
“Charcoal for bleaching palm oil for the production of oil used in the making of soaps and insecticides has been produced from Jatropha. The oil is not yet used for human consumption, but it can be used in the production of pesticides.
“Jatropha is a solution provider to the problem of climate change. One plant of Jatropha absorbs about 20 kilograms of carbon dioxide per year.If you want to know more buy our comprehensive jatropha proposal- 25k
1. As I speak the house has done the first reading of a bill to include Jatropha biofuel into our petrol (10-20)%. interested persons should please call Gbenga on 08182355047 or 08136650972 (9am to11pm-Monday to Saturday ,1pm to 11pm- Sunday) for more details- We are also into plantain, pineapple, palm tree, rubber ,moringa ,maize, cassava, vegetable ,melon ,watermelon ,cabbage plantation farm , you can also buy all kinds of seedlings from us. We also have quail, glasscutter, rabbit ,snail, ostrich ,Flightless-guinea fowl , imported turkey
2. Nigeria has no business importing food at all. We have everything; God has blessed this country. We have land, cheap labour, we have great sunshine and we have population to eat what we produce. Nigeria should not be importing food; Nigeria should be self-sufficient and should be a net exporting country for food

3. We also build incubators that use Jatrophat as fuel , infact we convert room to incubator. If you are a serious investor please call Gbenga on 08182355047 or 08136650972 (9am to 11pm-Monday to Saturday ,1pm to 11pm- Sunday)– Eesteeresources-agriculture-based entrepreneur.

Nbg4real: Hello! Welldone all. Pls can any one help pls? My birds are exactly 20weeks today, they started laying 8dayz ago but up to now only 1egg per day i have 350 pullets (black) pls what will i do?

Nothing to worry about, they will all pick gradually .What it means is that those once that are laying are already matured at 2kg.You need to keep feeding and given adequate water to your birds.Give them extra 2wks many will join the race . you will be happy in the end.

cheers

you may put gen set there, whenever you wanna feed ,picking eggs, cleaning the droppings/litters,sorting eggs to various grades, lightning at night, operating fans etc .we all need power to do all these.
Agriculture / Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by obnelly: 5:08pm On Nov 14, 2013
samshoz: The house should also discuss galvanized poultry battery cages with automatic feeders and drinkers. Though i cant afford it now but it will be ideal for my part time farm. I dnt want to worry about ma birds feedin/drink while doin my regular job.

I guess you will need a timer with constant power on farm to do that. Its not too diffucult to make.I am working on a prototype.

In constructing pen for your chicken you must understand the environment very well.if its a water logged area take necessary precaution to avoid stagnant water. It may lead to fowl pox in your farm.

Fnk,exposing young chick into wind is like throwing a young baby into a cold water.Remember we are domesticating them,we represent their mother we keep them warm at all time till they can adjust their body temperature to their environment.
Sorry about the loss.

What you have passion for will always make you, farming doesnt bring quick money, its the passion that brings the money.my layers are doing good more than 3 months after they started laying. mortality is still less than 2%.

still working on the way forward for our bio farm waste into good use.

benzion72: @Hindsight I was reading through your experience and I discovered you collected your Day Old Chicken from Karmadex PLC where I collected mine also and I discovered that we had the same experience in production and result. With all effort I never cross 50 percent production.
Can we say that Karmadex DOC are compromised? Is there any regulatory agencies for poultry products? Is the standard organisation of Nigeria (SON) doing anything in this regards.

Intact at a time I felt I should sue karmadex at a point for substandard product.

50% production ?that is not good enough .i am doing 85% right now after 2 months of laying and i think that is the highest my birds could go.

odilibe: All about digital senders are on this website, including installation videos and manual..where some digisender can transmit upto 1kilometre ...from single input to up-to 4/quad input....this allow you to send multiple devices ,DVD,multiple receivers etc, from one digital sender.. (www.digisender.net/all_products.php ) ...

During the days of analogue broadcast..we normally use analogue video senders with short range transmission...to send video signals wireless..to other neighbours...without needing to pair it with the receiving device....but technology have changed ...the days digi-senders needs to be paired with the receiving device before loop through to the AV or RF input of the TV....for more info about digital video senders visit this site>>>>>>cheers

D.lee:
They are mainly used for free to air. 22khz switch and the dieseqc switch only sends signal to the reciever from the lnbf(s). In a wiring like the above diagrams, each reciever needs a separate subscription for it to open a scrambled
channel.

Thanks Dlee i still wonder how that guy goes about it.i mean distributing pay per view.

larryenob: just turn ur lnbf to 12 oclock n place the di E. horizontal n with dat freq. u re good to go

For you to get signal on that dish you must get the focal point right.try and pull out the lnb and allow the throat of the lnb to rim with the scalar ring.

The scalar ring only prevent the lnb from picking terrestrial noise .which can have side effect on signal performance.
Goodluck and keep tracking.

For details on the mini prime focus dish kindly contact me via this e-mail.
obnelly2009@gmail.com
.
The dish can perform as 90cm as well ad 180cm.

I came up with that idea because some people says they have space for 1m dish and not for 1.8m.so if you have the space for 1m this mini dish should fit into your space.and that will give you maximum enjoyment ranging from sports to news and movies all at little or no cost.

What materials did u use? [/quote

It doesnt matter what type of materials used, most dishes come with either fibre glass or pan.I used fibre glass because its not bulky.Whatever you want just send me a mail.

I will be working on circular conical scalar ring when the time permits.

I am happy when its proudly Africa.

I carried out a test on my locally made" Mini Prime Focus Dish"almost an hour ago .The result was excellent. With the c band lnb in place it took me just 3mins to locate where the satellite is,I dotted my 'I's and crossed my 't's and what again?IRIB TV3 and IRIB VARESH,ALJAZEERA NEWS AND PRESS TV were dancing 'asonto' on my tv screen. No cracking,no freezing..So if you want dish that doesn't take much space and can deliver good result for your ku and c band signals .

If you want News and Sports at no cost ,this mini dish is your best bet.

If you want to motorise this dish its equally possible so no need of setting up 10 lnbs on a dish.

.Enjoy it why it last.

Free to air forever.
